Personality: Kainashi feels like he's in another world. He sees things in another light and often times they're not reality. He has delusions that he has to be strong or something bad will happen, or that everyone is out to harm him.
Kainashi is more of a solitary wolf that likes to keep himself, isolated from the rest of the species. He usually feels 'less than' toward other wolves. He often feels trapped, and the impolite voices he hears from his hallucinations don't help him any. Kainashi tends to keep his emotions bottled up internally, heaven forbid if someone should meet his weakness.
For those rare few who get to truly recognize how special Kain really is, he's a keeper. He's very loyal to a pack, or person and would never double-cross them. He's a sweet, and innocent Lumen that will try to stand up for what he believes in.
He rarely gets angry, with a calm temperament. He is very intelligent, understanding, and usually notices a right decision from a wrong one.
History: Kain's story is quite an interesting one. He grew up in an all Lumen pack, and life was great. . .until they began to suspect.
Kain was born prematurely during the winter over two centuries ago. The cold was forceful and bitter. Kain's mother was there to cuddle him, and keep him warm. Kain's father wasn't too supporting, and never was. Kain's mother loved him very much, and could sense something was wrong. She never mentioned it to the father, afraid that they might exile her only surviving son into the menacing snow.
The days grew warmer and Kain found himself often wandering off to be alone, rather than playing with the other pups. This was more comfort to him than the alternative. Isolation was his way of staying safe; the other puppies called him names. They were mean little rascals, calling each other horrible names, but only Kain took it to heart. He was very sensitive back then, and so his only way to cope was to simply slink away to his comfort zone.
Kain had many talks with his mother about his feelings, but she couldn't help. She was only his escape route other than just pure isolation. Others found it very odd that he wouldn't play with the other pups, since he was still very young. They spewed out every nasty name about him, believing that somewhere his blood was tainted. They never considered him equal after that.
One day, Kain and his mother were having another of their talks. "Kainashi," she said worriedly, "I don't want you talking to anyone else. Ignore them; and don't show you're feelings. You have to be strong, and if you're not strong, the Great Spirit could take you right out of that body he put you in." Kain thought she meant it literally, and as usual, he took it to heart and soaked up every word from her mouth. That was when his delusions developed.
Soon, Kain found himself talking to the voices he heard. The voices told him to run away, because everybody there only wanted to hurt him. "No," he told them, "they just don't understand." They got more aggressive and forceful every time he refused, intent on making him leave.
A couple years of secluded times passed, and the alpha male visited him and his mother one day in their den. He spoke with the mother, but Kain couldn't hear a word. He heard his mother's whimpers and pleas, but he didn't pay any mind. Finally he turned when he heard the large male's paws padding toward him. He whirled and spotted his mother, with tears in her eyes. "I'll do anything," she screamed. Her plea was answered by the alpha's grunt. "He's hopeless! A threat to the pack. Must be eliminated." Kainashi didn't understand his alpha's use of wording, but had a bad feeling in his gut nonetheless. The voices screamed at him to move, to run, to get away.
The male stopped a few inches from his face. "Do you know what you're name means, Kainashi?" The male asked. Kain shook his head. "Worthless! It means worthless, you're worthless, useless!" the alpha growled. Then he lunged for the throat to redeem his pack once more, but Kain squirmed out of his grasp.
He wasn't quick enough--the alpha plunged his paw in the his side, catching only his flank. The alpha pulled, and Kain cried with the pain and agony he'd never felt in his life. The nail in the alpha's paw came loose, freeing Kain. Kain yelped and fled from the den, never returning. The alpha let him go, sure he was a goner. The scar on his flank today is from this conflict.
Kainashi was sure he wasn't fit to be a Lumen, why did the Great Spirit create such a vile creature? In the end, Kain was hurt because his name meant something so vile. He remembered his mother saying something about his father naming him, which might account for why she never told him what it meant. Whatever the reason, he blamed his no-good father for it, and the voices only encouraged this idea.
Kain was over 5 years of age then, and was able to function properly without an adult's care. He spent most of his time hiding in forests, where plant live energy was plentiful. He started to prefer the name Shonen to Kainashi, feeling as though others would use Kainashi as an insult if they knew.
Kain grew, and he grew quickly. He still believed in his delusions and listened to the voices; he felt they were his Guardians, sent by the Great Spirit, since they had wanted to help him before. He spent the rest of his time exploring, but tried to keep hidden. He was afraid to be found by his former pack, or by the cursed Lupus. He knew if he was caught, he wouldn't be able to stay hidden from the wolf and would have to grant them a wish. He didn't want that; even if he could make them the worst possible wish they'd never want, he didn't want to grant any wish. He grew bitter, emotionless, and afraid to show any emotion to anyone.
Kain didn't meet many wolves over the decades because he always kept hidden, but his mother told him at a young age about them, such as which to trust, and which ones were a disgrace to the Lumen race. He believed highly in his mother's words, but after meeting Evelyn and joining the Alliance (now the Accord), he began to doubt his mother.
Kain was afraid of Evelyn when he first met her out in the Poppy Meadow. She is a Lumen, just as he is. He was afraid she would discriminate against him, thinking he was only but a disgrace of the species. A lesser-form. It wasn't too long before he warmed up to her, taking every possible advantage to see her. He felt different around her, more alive than anything. It didn't take long for Kainashi to realize the fault in his ways: believing and giving in to the voices. The voices had gotten him out of trouble before, but then they began trying to lull him away from Evelyn. Truth was, he didn't want to be away from her. He soon caught on to the fact that he was in love with her, and was overjoyed when she accepted his request of mateship.
During the day, the couple hardly got to see each other. Kain was a Junior Sage, while Evelyn (who he calls Ev) was a Fighter [?]. Evelyn was usually away on patrols, while Kain was tucked away learning the herbs. They had most nights together, however. After Faye's rank was updated, Kain was promoted to Senior Sage and took on a Junior Sage of his own to mentor.
Kain's luck seemed to run out. Another female Lumen had found the pair, obviously wishing to create havoc in their joyous lives. She projected Evelyn's coat color onto her own, while the scents around Kain made it impossible to separate them from one another. The Lumen didn't speak, allowing her actions to confuse Kain as he attempted to breed with the Lumen.
As the irony went, Evelyn came up on the affair. This was when Kain lost his ignorance, coming to the realization that his mate was not this wolf that he'd bred with. Evelyn was heart broken, running off with Kain trailing close behind. He apologized, sure that his mate would never love him nor trust him anymore. Eventually, the couple reunited in their love, and attempted to begin a family in the Poppy Meadow, where they had met.
Later Kain "disappeared." He lost his memory of everyone, and everything, even his mate. After months of traveling, he find had a breakthrough. Following his instinct from his mate, Kainashi came upon the Accord's pack meeting, where he was reunited with Evelyn. He has regained some of his memory, but has yet to gain it all back.
