And promotions awarded as well of course.
Keinvarii walked up the Heikwar Cliffs without haste, taking in the reflection of the sun on the lake`s waves as they stretched out almost beyond sight. Distant cliffs dotted the opposing edges of the lake, turning her territory into a veritable fortress and plunging the pack into an almost historic sense of time. Over head a hawk flew, gazing down at the green and grey wolf with cunning amber eyes, searching for prey in the early afternoon. It was the warmest time of the day, and so it was this time that Keinvarii had deemed best to place out a call for the pack to assemble. She had received word that a circus may be coming and before their arrival she wanted to consult with her pack mates and introduce to them their new King and her mate.
Her strong muscles carried her upward, thick pelt keeping her sheltered from the energized wind that sought to ruffle her fur, more of a playful greeting then a malicious attack. It carried the fresh smell of cold humidity and rich earthy forest along its crest and she breathed in deep, relishing the aromatic scent. She looked upon her land, pride filling her gaze as her startling blue gaze drifted from the distant island, to the massive temperate rainforest and down below to the rocky shores. It was a breathtaking and wondrous sight, so unique and mystical and at this hour in the day the mist that usually shrouded the land had dissipated in the warm rays, leaving the territory open to her perusal.
Lifting her head she let out a long howl of summons, letting it echo strong and true into the wind and over the land. Small pack gathering, I have important news for you all! It cried out, letting the wolves know that it was important for them to attend. She was unsure how they might react to having a new king, but either way they would need to accept Acélan as one of their own, and their superior. She believed most would respect her decision, if not with slight hesitation, but still trepidation marred her face. She only wanted the best for them and having a male at her side to rule the kingdom would show others packs that they were united and strong, and the lupus possessed great skills and useful powers.
She would try to down play the abruptness of it all, perhaps implying they had been meeting quietly over the past weeks, it was perhaps not the most convincing of ploys, but none the less it would hush prying questions for the time being. Keinvarii knew there would be such inquiries, as was to be expected from such intelligent subjects, and she would answer them as best she could, keeping their direct attention off Acélan. This would give him the chance to meet his subjects and understand the bond that their pack shared and its importance to her. Hopefully the arrival of the circus might deter most of their scrutiny…

He had just chased down a young male deer, eaten his fill, and now needed a rest. A contented sigh flew past his lips as his eyes admired the sparkling water before him. The sunlight bounced off the calm glassy surface and created an almost blinding reflection. Siren closed his eyes, the bright orange orbs now hooded by his lids. It didn't take long for him to ease off the edge into unconsciousness.
After what seemed to be only a moment, Siren was roused from his sleep by a powerful voice. He lifted his head and took in the unmistakable sound of his queen. A smile twitched on his lips as he listened to the summoning.
His nap forgotten, Siren stood and grasped the deer in his teeth. From the sound of it, Keinvarii was standing on the cliffs. As much as the cael hybrid dreaded climbing up there, he would do it a thousand times over for Keinvarii. As he began walking toward the meeting place, the male's thoughts stirred in his head. I wonder what the meeting could be about? He mused silently. When I joined the pack Keinvarii mentioned a possible promotion..Could that be why she calls? If that were the case, the buck he carried would be proof of his capability.
With short muscular legs pulling the weight of his body, Siren made it up to the peak of the cliff. He took a moment to catch his breath before approaching Keinvarii, not wanting to appear winded. Once he stood in front of the lupus, the male wolf dropped his prize at her paws. "For you, my queen." He smiled broadly and made a move to nuzzle her chin.

It had started off quite hostile but their (especially her) attitude had softened later on and this pleased him. He did not find females who were uptight fun at all. Well, it would be at first as he attempted to woo them but, basically, they weren't any fun. As far as he could see, Keinvarii wasn't uptight. She might be thinking that, since she was a Queen, she must behave in the way she was expected to behave and this did not work with him that well. Everyone, and this includes royalties, should have some time to relax and have a fun. He twitched his ears thoughtfully: Keinvarii was his mate now and, as her King and mate, he would make sure that she would have that kind of relaxing time. Mate. He chuckled. Who knew that he would have a mate this soon. Certainly not him. It was a quite surprise when he heard her request. She wanted a mate and a King for the sake of her pack. Hm. Now that he thought about it, who would arrange mates? It was rather odd, but he chose to see it as a compliment; a Queen had hand-picked him as her King, a stranger than an existing member of her pack. So he must be quite good if the Queen preferred him.
Pack. It wouldn't be long until he met them. Ácélan wasn't nervous. Far from it. He was feeling pretty proud and confident. Whether they like him or not, they would be stuck with him. He smiled, and they would like him. Who wouldn't? But if, for some reason no one would ever know, they won't like him, he was certain he would win them around with his charm and his winning smile. The Queen had mentioned that there was a quite lot of females, hadn't she? If he was being honest, he probably will enjoy this meeting more than rest of the pack if females do decide to appear. He could have them, couldn't he? After all he was the King. But then he had a mate. The girls weren't likely to enjoy being his second choices. But that wasn't true, was it? To be a king he had to take Keinvarii as his mate. For the first time he started to worry about having only one female for the rest of his life, and that was Keinvarii. He was not thinking that she was that bad, but he was afraid of the commitment involved. What if there was only one chance? Mess up and you're out. He wrinkled his nose, starting to realise what he had jumped into.
A howl rang out. He waited for a bit, to allow his audience to arrive. When he thought that enough time had passed he turned to the howler's direction and moved towards it. He wasn't far from Keinvarii so it took a short time for him to arrive. To his disappointment, there were only two wolves in the area; Keinvarii and an odd wolf with seaweeds growing from his blue mane. In his jaws, there was a limp deer and he moved closer to the Queen. At this, Ácélan immediately saw red and he went towards her swiftly, arriving just in time to hear his words. He then moved forwards to deflect the hybrid's greeting nudge with his body. "Oh, hello. It's a pleasure to see one of my subjects." He flashed a wide smile, hiding his displeasure, at the male before moving to position himself closer to Keinvarii's side, pressing his body against hers. He stretched his neck to nuzzle his mate in the cheek and his tail moved to wrap itself around her leg gently. "Excited, my beautiful mate?" He made sure that his words were audible enough for the hybrid to hear. She was his and he did not intend to share her.

[scrolly:h(197),w(410),sy] The Cael had been on his way to the cliffs anyways when he heard his beloved Queen's call: Keinvarii was more than his Queen, she was his ally and friend. It was her, personally, that had accepted him into the Accord last spring. His original plans to simply walk up the cliffs to exercise and see the view was replaced by going to the meeting. He grinned: The Cael enjoyed meeting his pack members from time to time, all of the wolves getting together. He would have a chance to try his new "gifts". Or at least he was fairly certain they were gifts, possibly from the Great Spirit... He just had to find a way to use the strange new mind-reading abilities in a good manner.
He quickly climbed the cliff to the traditional meeting area, his gold eyes surveying the area, making note of any possible threats to himself or his pack: He was relieved that there were none he could smell or see. After surveying the area, as years of training had taught the battle-hardened male, he finally relaxed his muscles and smiled slowly to the group. The mid-afternoon sun glinted of the handsome golden highlights in his sleek black pelt. He saw Stone, and two other males he had yet the pleasure to meet: One was some sort of Cael hybrid, judging by the seaweed on his back, and the other clearly a lupus. He saw the blocked friendly exchange between the hybrid and Stone, as the larger male possessively steeped in.
He smiled to the smaller male, but Raynor could see the angry glint in his eyes. The Cael puzzled over this for a moment, glancing between the two a couple of times. He was sure he would find out more soon enough. "Greetings, Stone! And warm wishes to you two newcomers also, welcome to the Accord! I am Raynor, Lord of Defense, a humble Cael." his eyes glinted with humor. He was looking forward to doing his circus act with Crow and the others, but leaving the lake was a whole other matter entirely: However, he was ready to see the world, and had eaten his share of meat and fish in preparation for his journey to come.
"I have yet had the pleasure to meet you both, won't you tell me how you came to be here?" he asked in his deep, musical voice. While Raynor was a born soldier, he knew how to rest also. He sat in front of Stone, and beside the Cael-like hybrid. He hadn't liked the larger male's bruske way of handling the friendly hybrid, and his golden eyes gleamed with a silent reproach, but he said nothing: It's not my job to. he thought to himself. He guessed this new male must have some authority, and he was curious to hear how that came about.

"Speaking" It was a beautiful wintery afternoon, he sun warm on the lupus's white pelt as she prowled her home lands, Lake Amarenthyst and all it inhabited. It was such a beautiful land, whenever she came here Faye simply felt at peace, something she realized, with a tinge, of sadness, that she had never felt at her old pack... Ah, but memories were for another day, and right now was not the time, with the sun in the sky and it's rays glinting of the cristalline surface of the lake.
The lightning lupus simply sat and watched te beauty of it all for a moment, her yellow cat-like eyes taking in her surroundings: Home. The word resonated through her mind, and sounded right. Suddenly her ears perked, and she stood, displaying her pure white fur and the navy blue markings on her back and legs: If not for those, and her colorful eyes, she could almost be mistaken for a lumen. Keinvarii was calling a meeting. Faye smiled a small, rare smile and although it was informal, hurried along to the cliffs where she knew the meetings always took place.
However, she slowed her pace a little as she climbed the majestic cliffs, drinking in the view. Faye hoped there would be some new pack members, new faces to meet and see, as well as old pack members, old faces to remember and cherish. She arrived at the meeting place, where her good friend Stone, who had accepted her into the Accord herself, back in the early spring when she was a Sage, sat. She noticed three other males, one of whom she recignized as her good friend Raynor, the dark Cael. Another was a tall lupus that she didn't recognize who sat possesively by Stone. Had her friend found herslef a mate, which in turn decreed this male lupus as new king? Faye was curious to find out, and suspected he had somethiong to do with the meeting.
Another was a smaller hybrid with seaweed that appeared to be attached to his head and back. She smiled to them all and greeted each in turn: "Good afternoon Stone, it's nice to see you again. Hello Ray, I trust you're doing well." she winked at Raynor, friendly but not overly so: They were friends, and she wouldn't jeopardize that relationship, especially since she didn't feel that way towards him, and he her.
She offered a rare, welcoming smile to the two newcomers: "Welcome to Lake Amarenthyst, new comers, it is a pleasure to meet you both. My name is Faye, and I am the Duchess of the Accord." she sat down beside her old firned Raynor, who had joined at about the same time as she. She saw the slight reproach in his eyes directed at the male, and she wondered what he had done. The Duchess knew Raynor was fiercely protective of the lands as well as the pack, and especially of thos he knew personally. I wonder what is the matter... she thought to herself, but kept her expression neutral as she waited for others to arrive.

The thick forest blocked out most of the summoning howl, and Swalleena perked her ears forward, lifting her head in rapt attention. This was a call from their Alphess, a lupus that the Savant Healer had yet to meet since joining the pack, and it requested a pack meeting. Giving a dainty yawn she gracefully uncurled her body from her sleeping spot, rising to stretch open her soft downy wings before taking to her smoke form, rapidly gliding through the forest without any obstacles to impede her progress. Like all whisps she possessed a great speed, and even from this distance she knew she would make it to the cliffs before others started the hike upwards.
Flowing with the wind she danced among the mist, the humid air greeting her with great joy and following her on her path. Up ahead the Heikway cliffs rose, immense towers of strength and ancient nobility that stood watch over the Lake Amarenthyst and its inhabitants. The steady incline rose rapidly, the grassy hills littered with large stones and Swalleena chose to take the jagged path that caressed the contour of the cliff, drifting against the massive body of stone where for an ordinary wolf a simply misplaced step could result in death. Today her hike was rapid, a fierce wind lashed against the cliff, drifting in from the lake and she did not spend much time observing the magnificent scenery below her, her focus was on the pack`s meeting place.
Rising upwards she glided into the midst of the wolves, materializing slowly and her body was tossed in the wind, folding her wings so that they lay pristinely against her thin and lithe body, long limber limbs carrying her closer to the group. Immediately she saw the wolf that had sent the call, the pale green and grey wolf marked by startlingly clear blue eyes that stood in the center of the gathering had an aura of calm confidence about her. To her side sat another wolf, his dark pelt gleaming like cold ice in the light of the day and she could not help but wonder what his relation to the Queen was, he seem to act like a possessive mate, but Swalleena had not been told the pack possessed a King. The black wolf that was speaking also demonstrated a presence of reserved strength, and she was not surprised to hear he was the Lord of Defense for the pack, he certainly looked the part. The other female lupus reflected grace and poise, and her firm voice told Swalleena that she had experience in life and had perhaps been with the pack for quite some time. Finally her emerald green gaze flitted upon the brown wolf with the mane of aquatic plants, and she smiled in quiet delight, he was a beautiful sight to behold.
Stepping forward after Raynor had finished his introductions she inclined her head respectfully, her paws dipping forward in a meticulous bow that demonstrated calm grace and fluidity. Her soft and soothing voice rang out, “Good day my Queen and fellow pack members, my name is Swalleena and I am assigned to act as a Savant Healer, it is pleasant to meet so many new wolves. I am afraid I have yet to have the pleasure of meeting any of you.” She gave them all a tentatively friendly smile, hoping they would not think her posh in her manners. Her soft and somewhat reserved way of approaching others often created an illusion of false pompous ways, but it was entirely the opposite for the female was a sincere and honest wolf.

Small flowers died at her feet as she ate her fair share of the life in this forest. It was a good thing that the pack had moved to this land. During winter, the Lumen certainly would have starved with so little to eat. She did not eat as others did and instead ate the life energy of the things around her. Plants would deteriorate or die and animals, depending on the size, would simply pass out from exhaustion and wake up later delirious and tired. That was the way of her species, making them vegetarians of a sort. Well, Sennyo ate plants as well as they did, but they were known to eat meat and fish too. She licked her lips as she stood there amongst the flowers, savoring the taste.
Evelyn's ears twitched when she heard the call emanate from the cliff and she halted her eating. She's had enough for now, she could eat more later. She wondered what her dear friend was calling them for. Had something gone wrong? Was the Circus here already? Sighing, the mostly white female stood up and stared in the direction of the cliff, which she could see through an opening in the trees. Her fur was stark white, except for her paws, tail tip, ear tips, and the spot around her right eye. They were a dark shade of pink with traces of red, like the poppies that her and Kainashi had met in, then mated in later on. The thought of her missing mate sent a pain through her heart, but she pushed it away.
Bending her head down, Evelyn picked many of the exotic flowers into her mouth, those that were still living. After about five or six sitting in her maw, she turned tail and bounded off over the tree roots and around the rocks. It did not take long for her to reach the cliff where the others were waiting. She stayed out of sight, though, coming to a halt when she spotted the male from where she was. Her crimson gaze narrowed uneasily. She did not know him and unless there was a good reason for him being there, she would be the first to get him away from Keinvarii. She was not receptive of strangers well, unless they intended to join the pack with a good heart.
Evelyn bent the light around her, becoming invisible. The flowers could still be seen, though.
The Lumen began walking in plain sight of the others, knowing they could only see the flowers and not her. The flowers were a bright red, so they couldn't really be missed as she trotted along easily over to her leader. When she was beside her, she tossed the flowers up and over the Lupus female, allowing them to shower down on the green Queen. She undid her invisibility, revealing herself to everyone with a big smile. "I could have used a stick instead, but I didn't find that as fitting for our lovely Queen." The prankster almost laughed to herself, but remembered the presence of the stranger male that she did not know, the one so close to her friend.
She nuzzled Keinvarii's cheek as a greeting. "How are you, my friend, Stone?" Evelyn turned her head and dipped it to each of the members as she greeted them. "Siren, Raynor, Faye, Swalleena. A pleasure to see you all." With that the Lumen padded to the front of the Lupus male. With narrow eyes, her voice became steady and serious, "I am Evelyn, the Archduchess of the Centena Accord. And who might you be, stranger?" She tried not to sound hostile, for she had a faint feeling he was important, but she couldn't help but seem uneasy about the situation.

He had been hunting when he heard the call. It was a voice Chance didn't recognize but then he only knew one wolf in this pack so far. Figuring whoever it was how has sounded the call had something important to say he dropped the scent her was following and headed off in the opposite direction. The territory had become more familiar to him as he had spent most of his time getting acquainted with it. Maybe if he had spent less time on that and more time getting to know his new pack mates he would know who it was that had called the meeting. Though common sense told him it was his alpha the paranoid Kieyou was always cautious about jumping to conclusions.
He arrived at the cliff somewhat late, in his opinion. There was a light green and white wolf everyone was greeting who he suspected was the queen. Chance was nervous about actually meeting the she-wolf. He had served an alpha before, in guidance and as a mate. Even Sasha and he had been on friendly terms, his flamboyant personality easy to handle. But his new alpha he had no read on. For someone like Chance, the situation made his paws itch to run and his wing tremble with anticipation.
He spotted Faye and naturally gravitated toward the one wolf he had actually met. The actually members of the pack were very diverse in species. A hybrid, a whisp, a lumen. Wolves one didn't see every day. He tried to catch Faye's eyes with his own purple ones as he approached. "Hello again," he said, his voice quieter than he had hoped and shaky with nerves. The lupus hovering around the queen made him even more uneasy. Being thrown into the midst of a bunch of strangers was not Chance's idea of a good day.

A smile of welcoming graced her maw, it brought her great joy to see all the unique wolves gathering together and the variety of species made the gathering a rare sight to witness. Lupus mixed with lumen, keiyou and whisp converged and the pack’s hybrid topped it all off. Truly she was a Queen in good fortune to witness such a gathering of talents and abilities.
She gave Siren a fond smile, he was a sweet wolf and his caring disposition was most welcome in the group. She knew she could confide in him in all certainty that her words would be confidential and his presence seemed to center and calm her own. Warmly she said, “Thank you dear Siren, it is a greatly appreciated gift.” She threw Acelan a small look of amusement, noting his effective block of Siren’s gentle greeting, and lifted a brow in silent questioning. To make up for the abrupt gesture of her mate she gave Siren a genuine smile of thanks. Noting wryly she said, "Tis not I that should be subject to excitement, though being in the presence of such wonderful wolves does evoke awe at the very least my gallant Acelan.” The smile she flashed his way certainly confirmed the happiness she felt in the presence of her family.
Raynor’s solid presence was always a pleasure to share and she wagged her tail in greeting. “Hello Raynor, I am very glad you could make it, I expect you are quite looking forward to the day’s events.” Her voice teased, keeping the Circus a secret to the other members. Only Raynor and she knew of the performer’s expected arrival, it was to be a gift to her pack. Leaning closer to Acelan she whispered, “We are expecting a Circus to make its appearance later at the meeting; it is a surprise to the pack for working so hard of late.” She passed him a conspiring wink, she had not had the chance to talk to him about it, but she did so now out of respect for his title.
Soon other packmates starting arriving, a couple faces she had yet to meet but she had heard of through her subjects and Evelyn, her good and trustworthy friend, a spry and devilish lumen that never ceased to amaze the lupus. Giving a bark of laughter she crouched down and waged her tail playfully in greeting, there were little to no reserves between the pair. In response to the lumen’s amusing and creative gift Keinvarii kicked up some dirt and as it rose into the air transformed it into fine glittering diamond dust, watching as the cascading beads of light showered over the Lumen. “A fitting entrance for such a wonderful wolf, as ever a great joy to see you my friend, I hope you have been well.” She decided that other wolves may show later, in fact she sincerely hoped so for not presenting one self to her call merited discipline which she would not enjoy delivering, and deemed it a good time to make the announcement.
“Greeting friends old and new, I am overjoyed to see you all here, my thanks for answering the call. I have some important news to deliver to you all, to start with I give forth my sincere congratulations to Siren, our new and certainly deserving Lord of the Hunt, may you know great success! Chance, though I do not know much of you I have heard that you are a decent fellow, I should like to promote you to study the rank of Duke under Faye’s supervision, should she find you suitable then the position will be yours.” She paused to allow the group to process what she had said and rose to give a bow in the direction of the newly ranked wolves. "The next news will affect the whole pack, but I hope it will bring you as much relief and joy as it has brought me..." Taking a breath she gave Acelan a knowing look and said, “I should like to introduce you to your new King and my mate; Acelan. He is here to help lead this pack and I expect respect from all of you just as I expect him to return it. He is well suited for the rank, and as my mate has full and equal share of the responsibility of directing this pack” Keinvarii was letting the pack know that his say was final, just as was hers and providing a foundation of respect for the male, the rest he would have to build upon. She gave Acelan’s strong shoulder an encouraging nudge, hoping he would give the pack a small greeting. Now the Centena Accord would be les subject to prying eyes and stronger in the face of adversary, she owed Acelan much.

She disliked the idea of being at any other wolf's beck and call; besides which, she had better things to do with her time than keep appointments. But all the same, a pack meeting sounded good; an opportunity to see all the pack together, maybe pick a possible boyfriend if she ever decided she needed one, a chance to meet everybody, hopefully make a good impression and possibly even gain a... friend. Though she had no idea where that last thought had come from. Cahaya did not have friends. She paused as she came within sight of the pack, eyeing the small group. All her life Cahaya had been rather suspicious of the idea of belonging, of anything tying her down. For a long time her safety and independence had depended on running from the idea of anything that resembled a home or friends. It hadn't been her choice, just the way it was. Now things were different, and the young wolf was having trouble adjusting. She was incredibly new to the pack, and now she was expected to attend a meeting? She sighed. Might as well get it over with. She trotted closer, trying to identify the wolves. The green one who everybody seemed to be clustered around was obviously Keinvarii - she'd met her before, though not yet in daylight. The others, Cahaya didn't know, though she grew even more nervous as she noted the white wolf who seemed to appear out of nowhere. Lumen. Her fur bristled. Her mother had never cared much for inter-species hatred, but all Cahaya's self-appointed temporary adopted fathers had taught her to hate the very idea of one. She would have to hide it well, though. Her eyes travelled over the others as she grew closer, naming the species inside her head as she saw them; keiyou, lupus, cael... what was that? She didn't even know which species some of these wolves were. She shook her head. She was sure she would never be comfortable in this pack. She finally let her feet carry her to the edge of the group, her ears just catching Keinvarii's introduction of the male. Acelan... a King. Inside, she half-considered him. But no. This one was Keinvarii's mate, and it would never do to try and get away with forbidden romance on that scale. Besides, wolves who already had mates tended to be difficult to flirt with. They just never seemed to get the message. None of the other wolves were Lupus. Cahaya gave an imperceptible sigh. She disliked it when there was nobody available to latch onto. She would just have to manage, she supposed. Gathering all her powers of politeness, she considered her image in her mind; calm, eloquent, beautiful. Not too proud or haughty - she could show that later. She thought about a trick she'd heard about, carefully adjusting the light around oneself to cast a positive glow, hide flaws and bring out the colour of your eyes... but no, too risky. She didn't want to end up with a glowing nose again. She was determined that this time she was going to make a good impression. Dipping her head, she said, "I have no intention of pulling the limelight away from Acelan, who I am sure will make a fine King," compliments never hurt anybody, she thought to herself, "but I felt I should announce my presence. My name is Cahaya Freeborn and I am the newest member of this pack." She didn't give her rank. While she had come to terms with it a little - it seemed that her only duty was to flirt and play with cubs - she still felt uncomfortable with the way wolves in packs felt the need to categorise themselves. She was not the type who fit neatly into categories or boxes. She liked to confound all expectations of her. Except, of course, the expectations she had set for herself - and the ones her mother had pounded into her head as a cub.

It made sense now. The urges, the scents, the broken memories, and most of all, the hole that seemed to be in his heart. The Lumen knew there was something missing, someone important. This certain someone had been with him a considerable amount of time to be lodged into his brain like this, he was sure. He ached for her, and was intent on finding her.
It happened months ago, when the snow was gone and all you could feel during the day was the warm breeze. Summer--how he longed for it so. That particular day, Kain just so happened to be traveling the lands. He wasn't sure where he was going, just as he hasn't been for a while. The sun was high in the sky, and the meadow was green. For some reason, this area just seemed to bring him comfort, and he liked to come here often.
As he walked in silence, he could feel something pulling at him. It was faint, so he ignored it. Most things nowadays were like this, and it was impossible to simply bring it from his subconscious. The meadow opened then, clearer. His pale pink eyes widened at the scene. There before him was a poppy meadow. He padded over to one, lowering his nose to one of them. He breathed in their sweet scent, before backing up and staring once more.
Memories shot back before his eyes quickly, so quickly he couldn't focus on one. He took a deep breath, attempting to calm himself. This is crazy, he thought. He was shocked, and surprised. The memories replayed slower, giving him a better view. The Poppy Meadow, as it was once called, was then his favorite spot. He remembered why: this was where he met her. Soon after thanking the Great Spirit for some of his memories back, he headed off.
Ever since then he has been on a journey to find Ev. He remembered her, his nickname for her, her scent, her Lumen pelt, and that she was his mate. The scent of her in the Poppy Meadow was nearly nonexistent now. He was running out of time.
~~~~
This time, he was sure he was getting a lead. Evelyn's sweet scent, one nearly identical to those of the Poppies, was getting stronger. There were others here as well. The Alliance? Kain wondered. The Alliance was the pack Kain and Ev were in before he lost his memory.
He continued to follow the scent until he came upon jagged cliffs. Thankfully, he had taken the right path and had ended up on-top of them, instead of down below with the lake again. He could smell the other wolves, and easily came upon the meeting and looked around. A she-wolf was speaking. He remembered her from the Alliance, but couldn't seem to place her name. His eyes found Faye next. His stomach lurched. Faye, his former mentor from the Alliance. He still considered her a good friend, despite being gone for so long. He searched the rest of the group for his beloved, eyes falling on a female with a white pelt and reddish-pink markings like his, those his were blue. Evelyn?
His audits perked at the sound of 'new King, and my new mate.' Kainashi turned his gaze to the female, looking her over. King? What about equality? His eyes narrowed and he eyed the crowd again. No Magispar. The equality rule of the Alliance was slightly a tough concept for him to grasp at first, simply because he felt less than the others. But over time, for Evelyn, he came to know that the rule was necessary. The Alliance has changed, he thought. He waited for the Queen, as he guessed, to stop speaking. "E-Ev?" he asked, muttering. He was confused, but was mostly focused on finding his loved mate.
Who did he think he was? The hybrid's teeth ground together angrily at Acelan's possessive attitude. "I am no subject of yours, stranger." He spoke between gritted fangs, his words cold and precise. It took all his will power to hold in the savage snarl which threatened to rip through his calm demeanor. His gaze drifted expectantly to Keinvarii, anticipating a swift reprimand for the arrogant male. To his utter shock, the stranger called the queen his mate! Siren could hold in his distaste no longer and his lips curled in contempt. "Mate?" He spat, "Surely that isn't true?"
Unfortunately, it seemed that the cocky male had indeed spoken the truth. The brown wolf sat, unable to stand in the face of such betrayal. His eyes gained a glassy far-away look to them, and Siren barely heard the announcement of his promotion. His expression was blank as the reality of the situation worked itself through his mind. Why would Keinvarii hide such a thing from him? Weren't they..friends? Siren had believed them to be good friends, even. So why wouldn't she have mentioned a secret romance in any one of their conversations? He had been a fool to think that she trusted him, that he stood a chance at winning her heart.
So he would walk away from this humiliating experience with his heart broken and his tail between his legs. What else could he do? The queen had made her decision, and he wasn't her choice. "I'm very..happy for you." Siren struggled to choke out each word. It felt as if his heart would fracture with each shaky breath he took. Siren turned his sorrowful stare downcast. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go." Without waiting for a reply, the hybrid turned and made a hasty exit. He had much to think about, and he couldn't stand the sight of Keinvarii, or her king, any longer. With heavy steps he made his way down the slope, leaving the meeting behind.
In fact he was on the brink of laughing at the indignant remark made by the wolf in front of him. At the wolf's question Ácélan gave a tiny nod with a wide smile on his face, mouthing a word: jealous?. It was obvious, from the cael hybrid's sharp reaction and the way he spat each sentence out while speaking to him. For a while he kept his ice blue eyes on this Siren, before finally turning his head to Keinvarii after she mentioned something about a circus. He raised his brows, what circus? Must be something new as he hadn't heard about it until now. It should be entertaining. But he hadn't got the chance to think about this entertainment as he was quickly distracted by a floating stick then his mate's sudden movement. Soon it became apparent that the floating stick was an invisible lumen and her and Keinvarii were friends, close friends it seemed. Ácélan, like any other lupus, was suspicious of the lumen but he said nothing. He should trust this one since she and Keinvarii were close.
As this Evelyn turned to him, losing all of her previous playfulness, Ácélan smiled at her despite his distaste; he would have to learn to like her for his mate. "Wait and see, dear." He winked at her, his voice instinctively became flirtatious as it always did whenever he was speaking to a female. As soon as he finished speaking he noticed the stone lupus beside him was starting to talk. He moved his body into a position so that she could look at her face clearly. She took her position as a Queen seriously yet she did not seek to dominate every wolf in the meeting. She expected respect but she did not demand it. Soon he got bored listening to these silly words about promoting wolves and decided to just to watch her, basking under her quiet authority. He only listened again when she mentioned his name. He smiled at her before gazing around the pack, only stopping at Siren's face.
The King could see the shock and hurt in the Lord of the Hunt's face. For once Ácélan's smile faltered as he finally fully realised that Siren really liked Keinvarii. Even though he had never experienced that kind of pain he felt sorry for the hybrid. But this feeling didn't last very long as the lupus soon grasped the fact that this wolf could be a threat, no matter how small it might be; a threat was a threat. Before he could stop himself the words escaped his lips: "Goodbye, handsome, see you around." These words were full of cruel amusement. But he quickly covered the taunting words with a speech of his own to the pack: "Ah! The wolves of the Centena Accord. I'm Ácélan Hákonsson, your new king," Obviously! "And I solemnly swear that I will serve the pack with the best of my abilities." He inhaled and his mind went frenzy with next possible words to say that would win these wolves over.
But they never came as a wolf piped up with her own introduction. This pissed the ice lupus off; this meeting was mostly about him. There would be the circus but it was mostly about him. What the hell? Really? Who would care about this lupus. He flattened his ears to show his displeasure; no matter how much she was claiming that she did not intend to steal his spotlight, she was doing this. "Thank you, Ca... Ca.." Her name had already slipped from his mind; it was that unimportant. "Freeborn, but surely you can introduce yourself later as Keinvarii and myself have a lot more to speak." The translation was basically "no one cares so just shut up already." He flicked his tail, showing his annoyance, before he withdrew to Keinvarii's side, brushing his pelt against hers. This Freeborn had just dampened his mood to talk to the pack again so he just glared at his mate, waiting for her to speak. His irritation was obvious with the constant twitching of the tail.
"Speaking" It was nice to be once again in the company of old and new friends, and Raynor was content simply sitting amidst his pack. He knew that he would soon have to leave with his circus duties, but even then it was a chance to better himself. Besides, even if he did have good friends, there would be no mate, no family to miss him while he was away. The thought saddened the Lord of Defense for a moment, but he decided that friends were better than nothing, and for now, they were his family.
"Greetings, Faye. I am indeed well, and might I say you look as healthy as ever." he smiled discreetly at her, as they were good friends. Soon he saw a brown Keiyou approach her, with a small, shy smile. He smiled warmly at the Keiyou, but nothing more since the meeting had started and Faye obviously knew him, so she would most likely want to talk with him. Soon Swalleena, a Wisp, arrived, as well as a friend of his, Evelyn. He smiled at the both of them, and winked in a friendly manner to Evelyn: It would seem she wasn't particularly impressed with their King as well.
Raynor smiled at the lupus who introduced herself, and motioned with his head that there was a spot available beside him. He wasn't flirting, he was just being friendly to a new member, who didn't really know anyone and might need a friend. Then turned his attention back to the meeting. However, it was soon broken again by the arrival of an old acquaintance of his... Kainashi, Faye's old apprentice and Evelyn's mate, he believed. He glanced at him, confused: Where had he been all this time? However, he would let Evelyn and him have their time together before he met with the lumen again. He smiled, and glanced back as Siren took his leave: He could see the look of hurt and pain in his eyes, and hear it in his tone. Poor fellow.... He thought to himself, with a small shake of the head.
The words that Acelan directed at the already crushed wolf were cruel and spiteful, and the Cael didn't like them. He hoped Stone might have a talk with her mate later, but it was none of his affairs, and so there was nothing much he could do to ease the situation. However, he did raise and eyebrow at their new king, his golden eyes accusing, meaning to say : Now what was that for? However, he remained silent and turned his attention back to Keinvarii. He hoped the Circus would be arriving soon, and he hoped they were all well. He had arranged for them to stay on the island if they wanted to, he was willing to share his den, but as for Crow, who couldn't swim as well, if he wanted Raynor would gladly stay the night with him on land.
"Speaking" Faye smiled pleasantly at Evelyn, as well as Raynor. She wondered where Cyra was, and hoped the peppy earth lupus would make an appearance. It was all happening rather fast, what with the arrival of pack members new and old alike, and she tried to smile and be friendly to everyone. The Wisp seemed a little shy, being a new member and all, and the lightning lupus made sure to smile at her. "Hello Swalleena." she answered kindly, before noticing a certain purple-eyed, brown Keiyou.
She smiled at him, and motioned that there was room beside her if he wished to sit. She winked in a friendly manner, the Duchess was much more warm and open with wolves she knew: "Hello Chance, it appears we will be working together, I look forward to this. Congratulations." she added. Then, in a quieter voice she asked, curious: "Are you glad you joined?" Her yellow eyes were questioning. She hoped he was, she looked forward to better getting to know him.
Then she returned her yellow gaze back to the meeting, noticing the exchange between Siren and the new king. Hum, she thought, he is a bit hot-headed, but still young... He appears ready to help the pack, so I suppose perhaps he will learn in time. She accepted Stone's decision, and smiled at Acelan: " May you find happiness with the Accord, Acelan, and a sense of peace as well." It was an informal greeting, he was her king but like with Stone, he would in time become an acquaintance, if not a friend.
"Kainashi? What?" she inquired softly, glancing at the lumen who entered, seemingly confused. Is he alright? What has happened to him? she thought worriedly, but decided Evelyn would look after him for the moment.He was an old friend of hers, and also her apprentice when she'd still been a Sage.
