It had taken them all day, but they had reached his home. He was glad to be back at the lake. He tossed his head back and howled to the winds. Then he stopped to look at a small pool of water. A little hole filled with water thanks to the lapping of lake waves.
Caspian looked up from the pool of water. It took him a moment to register Eira. He sighed. He didn’t know if she wanted to continue. What happened at the pack was his own secret, but one he would gladly share with Eira. His ghost was the only one who ever knew. Sure everyone knew the wolf had died. They knew she was ate. But no one really understood how that affected him. No one understood.
But Eira might. They had gone through a life threatening ordeal, well, he had. She had saved him. That had to mean something. Also, he really had no reason to keep it a secret anymore. He wasn’t in that pack. Back then, he locked it up to conform to group. But he didn’t have to conform anymore. They banished him. He was a lone wolf exploring the vast plains of the world their Creator had formed, until he joined the Accord. He didn’t need to lock up this secret for fear of being rejected or outcast. He was an outcast and he had been rejected from his old pack. What did he have to fear?
Losing Eira. That's what he had to fear.
The smart sting of his guilt told him. But when he thought about it more, he discovered that was more the reason he needed to confess. Locking up something did no good for someone. He had to let it out. And now seemed the perfect time to do it.
"I Before we carry on I must speak to you about something. You need to know something about me. Something that will shape your opinion of me. I hope you can still be my friend after this," He spoke slowly to her.
He swallowed before he began his narrative. “I was banished from my old pack, the one before this one. I was banished for murder. I was born to the alpha's of the pack. My father and sister died, my sister was a still born and my father was killed in a pack raid. Growing up I was bullied, thanks to my uncle taking over the pack. The new alphess attacked my mother and I couldn't stand by. I attacked her, to save my mother. I dragged her off my mom, and we fought in the deep of the ocean. A shark came and attacked. It killed the alphess, but I escaped. Once I returned to camp with my mother...” Caspian stopped. Emotion constricted his voice again but he shoved it down. He had to tell someone. A ghost was not enough. He needed to let the story out and set it free.
“The pack was angry that the alphess was missing. I told them about the shark as I watched over my hurt mother. She died from her wounds. The new found princess fell ill. I remember her last word as she died from her sickness. Hiko. Her mothers name. Her father called a meeting that day. We all gathered and I looked up at my uncle. He refused to look at me. He spoke of the loss of an alphess. The loss of a princess. How it was tragic. He said something else that bothers me still."
“He said that they lost the mother of a Hitogoroshi. It means murderer in our tongue. I was shocked at what he said. How could he say that about me, it hadn't been my fault. I tried to speak, but he silenced me. He looked at me for the first time. His eyes were cold. I knew my fate then. I was stricken. I knew what was about to happen to me."
“He said it then. This Hitogoroshi is Caspian. The pack turned on my and I fled. They chased after me calling me by that name. I hardly escaped.”
Caspian shivered at the memory of it. One tear came crawling out of his eye, but he took a deep breath and finished the story in one choked voice. “I remember not knowing what to do. I loved my pack. But they wanted me dead. I swam across the ocean. I found this land. I wandered until I found a lake. I was confronted by the king of the pack. I was asked to be their priest. I said yes, though I was scared it would all happen again. I chose to try again."
“Since that day I couldn’t see things the same. I was needed, but scared of that fact. I'm still scared. But I knew the day would come. And it did. I fear what I've told you.".
“I am scared you will leave. I fear you will hate me as they have. But you needed to know. Sorry you had to find this out this way. What do you think? Should I even stay here now that you know, will you tell on me.“ Caspian’s lips curled back in grief.

When Eira heard Caspian say he was banished for murder, her eyes widened and she lowered her ears. By the time he finished and said the said the last parts, she walked up to him and licked his eyes. "I wont leave. I'll never leave. I will never hate you, and I will never tell a living soul. You should stay here; you are everything a pack needs. You have everything you need. You're a nice wolf, and you should be proud. This pack needs you, and you need this pack. Your life is perfect, I don't know how it could get any better." Eira smiled and licked his eyes again, and then sat down and looked at the ground, being prepared to tell her story. "When I was a pup, my mother died of giving birth. My father hated all of us, because he thought there were too many. He used to yell at us, and would always bite use. He never gave us a lot of food, but most of us survived... Until my sister said to him, 'stop biting! That hurts!' My father then took my sister, and shook her to death. All of my litter mates ran out of the den, and they were gone for ever. The only ones who stayed were two of my brothers, and me."
Eira paused and took a deep breath, and started to continue again. "Our father never let us leave the den, and if we tried, he'd bite us. When he would go on hunting trips, we would leave the den and go to a river near by to talk about all the things we missed, and all the things we wished we had. One day, a wolf came by and told our father that he has no rights to take care of us. My father hid my somewhere in the den, and he let the wolf take my two brothers away from me. Forever. When the wolf left, my father was so mean to me. He would pick me up, and throw me out of the den, and would yell at me that he told me to never go outside, When I would come back in, he would bite me." Eira scooted an inch away from Caspian, worrying that he would think of her any different. "One day, when my father went hunting, I ran out of the den and went by the river my brothers and I would go to. I started to look up into the clear sky, and that's when my father pushed me in. The river quickly led into the rapids, and I was in the water for a little bit, struggling. I caught onto a rock and saw a ledge that a full grown wolf could jump; so I jumped Jumped for my life. Jumped for hope. Jumped for freedom. I landed on the ledge, but slid off because it was wet with water. I fell onto a rock and became unconscious. I woke up in a den that was den where there was a wolf looking straight at me. His name was Gerwalf, and he rescued and adopted me. He taught me everything he knew, and my legs quickly became stronger, and my agility better.
Tears started to fall down Eira's cheeks like they were rain. She looked at her paw that was blood red, and then continued. "Gerwalf recently told me that I need to go find a pack, and start a new life. He wasn't a loner, and kept me secret from the pack he was in. So I left. A couple days later, I found you." Eira put her ears back as she was crying, and said, "I hope you don't think of me as any different, if you do, I could leave if you want."

When he saw her eyes widen, his ears drooped. He just knew she was going to run from him. She lowered her ears, a bad sign in his eyes. Then, she surprised him. She licked his eyes, instead of running away. Caspian's eyes went wide as she spoke.
She won't leave me. She will never leave me. She won't hate me, and she won't tell anyone? She thinks I'm everything a pack needs? That I have everything I need. I'm a nice wolf? I should be proud? I know how it could get better. The thoughts danced.
"It could get better, but I will take time on that," he admits shyly. He sits as she does, and looks at her. He listened to her story, a look of shock on his face. He spoke during her short pause, "That's awful."
Caspian watched her scoot away from him. His eyes softened as he looked at the hurt and worry in her eyes. He was horror stricken at this. "Think of you different? Never! I only care more now that I know what happened to you. Your father.. He should never have done that to you. Just know this, you will always have me. Okay?" He replied with a loving and friendly look in his eyes. He leans in and licks her tears away.

Eira started to wag her tail as she allowed Caspian to lick her tears off and she moved closer to him. *I have a friend A best friend! I've never had a friend before, well, besides my brothers. Although they were never my best friends. We were friends, but, we we just brothers and their sister,* she thought to herself smiling. She looked at the sky and saw stars that started to come out of their hiding places in the sky. She looked at Caspian in the eyes and said, "We should probably go to your den now." Eira looked at at the lake and looked at Caspian again. "Tomorrow, can you teach me how to hunt fish? I could teach you how to hunt animals that I eat, if you want." Worry started to go into her eyes again as she spoke, "What if a wolf from your pack sees me and you playing around, or teaching each other how to hunt?" She sniffed the air, smelling if any wolves are by. Eira scooted as close to Caspian as she could, their shoulders touching together. Eira moved her tails so they were touching with his. She felt safe. She felt like she was with Gerwalf.

As Eira's tails wagged, he flapped his on the ground. A look of happiness in his eyes. She moved closer to him and he smiled. Her smile was warm and made him feel accepted. Made him feel welcome.
He followed her gaze to the stars. He paused to look at them for a long while. This made him frown softly. Then, he smiled again and looked to her as she spoke. There eyes meeting.
"I can teach you how to hunt fish. I would love to learn how to hunt land dwelling creatures," He paused as her words sank in after that.
He had to think on that one. Then he smiled softly at her. His eyes warm and bold.
"I'll protect you. Heck, they may ask you to stay," he speaks softly and swiftly. Then, he smiles at her. More of a crooked grin now.
He moved forward then, into the water. He swam out and then swam about. He turned and swam back towards her swiftly. Then, he vanished under the water. He jumped out and, like a dolphin, dove back in. Laughing, he swam to the shallow water. There, he waited on her to jump in. It was a long swim for a normal wolf. He was worried that she would tire out before reaching the far shore of the island.

When Caspian said he'll protect her, something about her felt different, but she just passed that feeling on. Eira laughed as he did all of those funny tricks. She felt happy. She felt welcome. She started to walk a little far back, and then ran and jumped into the water, not too far from the shallow end. She looked under herself and saw fish all around her. She tried to dive under, but just ended up twirling under the water. She came back up and started to laugh while floating. "Well then, shall we start swimming?" Eira looked at Caspian and smiled a warm smile. She looked into the sky and became distracted and she stopped floating and fell underwater. She popped back up and smiled, "I'm ok! I'm ok!" She started moving her tails up and down to help her float. Eira thought to herself, *What if a wolf gets mad at Caspian when they see he brought a loner into the pack? What if they start fighting? Should I help in the fight or stay away?* Her thoughts wandered in her head, just like the skied in the sky. Still there as she swam. Always there.

Caspian watched her as she sat there. Her laughter made him grin. A crooked little grin that made him look younger than he really was. He was happy to see her enjoying herself.
He wanted to make her feel like she belonged. He wanted her to belong. He watched her walk away, wondering if she was changing her mind. Then, a hug splash got him. He was surprised to see himself facing his fear of deep water.
She twirled under water after a fish. When she came up, he was laughing. "Nice try! Yeah. Lets get moving!" he replied as he started to swim towards the island slowly.
When she fell under the water, he twisted to face her. He was about to dive after her when she popped back up. "You had me worried," he says with a soft chuckle.
Caspian looked at her, she seemed lost in thoughts. He wondered if she was worried about them getting in trouble. "You seem lost in thought."
He started swimming calmly towards the island. His tail doing all the work, so he had to circle around her. He did this to keep an eye on her. He was scared of losing her.

Eira started swimming a little faster, but not too fast so she wouldn't burn her energy. "Lost in thought, well... I'm just still worrying if the wolf that sees you is the alpha of the pack. What if you start fighting? I can't fight an alpha." She looked under herself and saw more fish. It was tempting for her to chase them around, but they were on water, so it would be hard. She started to swim faster again, slowly chasing a little speeding fish under her. Eira started to swim faster as she watched the fish. Her tails started move up and down again, and she started to move faster now. Her muscles seemed as they were popping out as she started to swim. *What am I doing?! I'm going to drown!* Eira thought about it, but didn't listen to her thoughts. She started to act like a curious pup that was first learning how to swim, and started swimming faster, and faster. She imagined that the water was the the rapids her father pushed her in. *Faster,* she thought as she kept on looking down for the fish. Eira thought she heard Caspian say something, but ignored it. She swam faster, and she thought they were close to the island, so tried to swim faster, but started to slow down. Slower, slower, slower. Her tails stopped moving and she to stay above water.
She started to sink.

Caspian stayed as close to her as he could without hindering her. He hoped she wouldn't run out of energy. He listened to her and smiled softly.
"I'm the Priest. Anything I do can be explained off as 'The Great Spirits Told Me To'. The pack trusts me ad listens to me," he reassures her.
He followed he gaze to the fish and smiled. "I'll teach you a few tricks to catching them soon," he said softly. He watched her speed up after a fish. He swam behind her and watched over her her. His worry clear.
She was moving fast, to fast. She was going to burn out her energy and Caspian knew it. He tailed her, ready for the inevitable. She was pup-like, curious. Almost as if she was now learning to swim.
"Slow down! You'll burn out your energy!" he called. She seemed to not hear him. She started slowing down, until..
She was sinking! He raced through the water to her. She was vanishing under the water. He dove down after her and swam with all his might.
He shot past her, vanishing under her. Then, he rose up under her. Letting he rest on his back. Pushing her up to the surface. He felt them both break the surface. The air cold on his pelt, like always.
He then swims swiftly towards the island. He didn't stop till he had her on the island shore. There he let her slide onto the dry shore. He looked at her seeming panicked.

Eira started to cough and breathing heavily. She opened her eyes slowly and saw they were on the island. Her vision was blurry, and it took a little bit for her vision to become clear. "Ca- ca-" she started coughing again and looked at Caspian in his eyes. "Caspian? Is that you?" "She tried to get up, but was too weak. After he talked, she smiled and gave out a chuckle as she said, "It's kind of like how we met, but reversed." Eira rolled over and finally was able to stand up. "How many?" She mumbled to herself in a quiet voice. "I'm sorry, I should've listened to you. I was acting like a pup learning to swim." She paused and started to lick his face. "Thank you for worrying about me. In the den, I think it's best if I sleep in the back and you sleep in front of me." Eira started to lick his shoulder, then the side of his neck, then his face. It was her way of saying 'thanks,' and she hoped he knew. After that, she started to lick him under his chin to tickle him. Eira wanted Caspian to know that she was alright, so she started to lick him on his face again, and then she remembered that they were in the open, and in his pack territory.
"So, where's the den?"

He was licking her chest now, and she had started coughing. Her breathing was heavy and he watched with worried eyes. His heart racing as he thought about losing her.
Then, her eyes opened. "Oh thank the Great Spirits!" he gasped out as he pressed the side of his muzzle to hers. He flapped his tail on the ground to show his joy.
He watched her lay silently for a moment and felt worried. His ears pinned to his head as he leaned back to watch her.
When she tried to speak, it broke into a coughing fit that made him tense. His ears went forward and their eyes met. He waited for her to speak.
"Yeah. I'm here. You're okay," he whispers with a tender voice. He watched her try to get up, hope filling his eyes. She failed this first time and he lowered his ears a bit.
"I think I like it when I'm hurt better," he admits shyly. His smile warm and loving. Then, she was on her paws. He moved so that she could lean on him.
She mumbled something, and he perked his ears. He missed what she said and his eyes flashed softly. He hoped it wasn't a question for him to answer.
"It's okay. Everyone has moments. I'm just glad I was here to help you," he spoke in a soft voice. Loud enough to be heard, but soft enough for him to show his relief.
When she licked his face, he smiled again. "I can do that for you."
He flushed a red under his pelt as she licked him again. "You're welcome," he whispers back to her. Then, he had to laugh as she tickled him.
"This way," he answered as he moved of slowly towards the tree-line. He leads her up to a tree with a large hole under it. He motions for her to walk inside.

Eira looks inside and smiles, thinking, *This one's better than the other one. Way better.* She went inside the den a little quickly, and moved to the far back. Then, laid down, feeling the soft grass on her fur, almost feeling the same, and then felt a little bit weird. So she started to groom herself, she started with her tails, and ended wherever she wanted. "So, how would you compare this den, to the other one?" Eira smiled and started to thump her tails on the ground. Her tails kept on hitting the ground when she asked, "What are the 'Great Spirits?' Are they some sort of power? Do you only know what they are because you're the Priest?" More and more questions filled into her head, but she feels that she's already asked a lot of questions for today. Eira listened closely to what Caspian said, so she could dream about the 'Great Spirits.' She put her head on Caspian's back, and closed her eyes as he talked. His voice replaying in her head, his breathing was relaxing, and made her thump her tails on the ground.
Eira moved closer to him, feeling the heat from his body, and feeling his fur on her own. She started smiled, knowing she had someone who would protect her from anything.

He could tell, from he eyes, that she liked this den better. He couldn't blame her. It was roomy, yet hard to reach. A safe place for her. He followed her swiftly down into the den and lay next to her. She had wanted him between the entrance and her. He gave her her wish.
He knew what he felt towards this she-wolf. He was in love with her. He licked his chest nervously at first. Then, he made it look as though he was grooming himself. He listened to her first question and then gave his answer.
"It's more roomy. A better place to shelter two wolves," he replies calmly. Her tails thumped the ground making him look at her for a moment. Her next questions caught him off guard.
"Well.. They are the powerless wolves of old. The first wolves. They have all the powers now that they walk in the stars. Every pup in my old pack learns of them at a young age. Most packs forget them, but others on WonderWhy do not forget them. Every wolf came from one of the older packs," he replies softly to her.
He smiled as she moved closer to him. Her head rested on his back. He smiled softly at this.

Eira started to lick his back, with her eyes still closed, and smiled. "Caspian," she started as she took her head of of his and focused on his eyes, "You're a wonderful wolf." She said those words softly, like they were a breeze in the air. She put the side of her muzzle to his, and then licked his chest. Her tails started to hit the ground again, and she licked him. She licked his paws, and then, Eira started to lick his chest again while looking up at him. She stopped, and put her nose to his. "You're better than wonderful, and like I said before, your life couldn't get any better." She started to smile and gave his nose a little lick. Then, she put her head on him again, and closed her eyes. Eira put her head right by Caspian's, and smiled. "I agree, about what you said about how it fits two wolves." She then said the last part quietly, "Maybe even more wolves," making it a little hard to hear.
*How early would I have to leave tomorrow?* Eira quickly shook the thought away from her mind. As long as he wants me here. She waited to see if he had anything to say, or any questions.

He licked her shoulder softly as she licked his back. His tail flapping on the ground as he noticed her smile. I'm so glad she is happy. I would hate to see her cry like that again. The image of her crying fills his eyes and makes him cringe.
As he heard his name, his eyes opened and he looked at her. Their eyes met and he froze. "You are a wonderful, no, you are an amazing wolf."
Her words were so soft, he had to perk his ears. The words had made his heart flutter. He felt the odd butterfly feeling in his stomach.
Then, their muzzles touched and he felt a faint shiver. Not from being cold, but from that deeper feeling. He then licked her ears as she licked his chest. His way of showing his thanks.
He gave a bright smile as he looked at her wag her tails. Then he closed his eyes to let her groom him. He wanted to think.
While she licked him, he could feel her gaze. But he kept his eyes closed. He was wondering why her voice saying his name was so right. He wanted to hear it every night. Every day as well.
Her nose touched his and his eyes opened wide. He was shocked at the feeling of electricity that he felt at her touch.
"It could get better. It will get better as long as I have you!" He was shocked at his own words, but they felt right coming out of his mouth.
He smiled back, letting the shock melt as she licked his nose. He rested his head on her paws.
He felt her head on his back. He closed his eyes to relax and smiled.
Her head was next to his and he smiled softly.
"It is a great place to have a family," he whispers back as he starts to drift into a soft sleep.
He didn't hear what she had said after her first words. He had a feeling she felt the same about the den.
"Tomorrow I'll take you out fishing and then.. Then we will have to part ways. But, I swear we will see each other again," he whispers softly to her. He started to snore softly. He was now resting faintly.
He muttered in his sleep, just loud enough she could understand it. "Not that I want you to go.. Ever.."
