In fact it was possible that Charis was better than him, even though you would never see him agreeing to this. But she wasn't perfect; after Red appeared to be amused by her earlier retort, she seemed irritated in some way. Unfortunately for her, this made him all more satisfied. Even though Charis was winning this competition of some kind, Red was enjoying this. At the beginning he was hell-bent on winning this, but now he found it amusing and a good way to pass time and to get know each other, no matter how guarded the other wolf might be. Actually it was a decent way to hone his analytical and perceptive skills, something he did not have the chance to do very often.
Then it hit Red. It was odd meeting Charis, out of all wolves, with her cold, guarded personality which was so similar to his own here. It was too odd, but then stranger things had happened. Red watched concentration creeping up to Charis's face as she rose her head towards the sky once again. She had accepted his challenge and must be concentrating to do something spectacular with her wind ability. He tried to suppress his curiosity, but failed as a tentative smile crept to his lips as he waited. Then another sudden gust of wind, this time it was very unnatural as it was blowing in many different directions. At first Red did not know where or what to look at, and then, when many fallen leaves rose into mid-air, his amber brown eyes snapped back to Charis's own blue ones. The leaves swirled around in air to form a leafy sphere. The stunning sight left another smile on his face but wider, a smile which he didn't bother to disguise. Some emotions were worth expressing, and awe was one of them. It was neither a weakness nor a strength so he should be safe.
Then as quickly as it formed, the sphere fell apart. It was a kind of tragic sight; a beautiful natural sphere being destroyed. Wait. No it wasn't being destroyed; the leaves had only fallen apart to create another form. This time it was a wolf. A small wolf, but a wolf nonetheless. How the leaves shaped the wolf; its faceless head, legs, tail, and everything was inspiring. Red found himself staring at the leaf wolf, stunned by its, well, existence. His awe almost flattened the logic part of his brain. Now Red was not a superstitious or religious wolf, he did not even believe in the Great Spirit, but seeing this small wolf almost made him believe in the supernatural. Red shook his head with a stunned grin on his face, and for a fleeting moment he was Pan Fion again, the innocent part of him who would pounce on a twitching leaf. Red himself before the death of his mother. He looked down at Charis, smiling with awe in his wide brown eyes, "I knew air is a powerful element to have, but I never thought..." He shook his head, "Never thought that it would be this great."
Red was back in control of his own mind and he wiped traces of Pan's sudden appearance off his face, leaving only a faint smile on his lips. But he left the same awe in his eyes, but there was also a kind of hunger lingering there. Charis had proven that her wind power was much superior than Red's poisonous ability, but somehow this didn't disappoint him. His venom was only useful whenever he was attempting to bring wolves down, and it could not create many imaginative forms with leaves. Smiling a wry smile, Red bowed his head, "I concede defeat. You are the better opponent." It was true; Charis always had been the better opponent. And although he could be arrogant sometimes, Red wasn't arrogant enough to deny it. Admitting defeat did not mean he was going to lose his pride. In fact, it was quite opposite because he knew it could be very tricky to give up a losing battle. Red wasn't a bad loser either so he gave her a quick smile. [/scrolly] | |

ooc: wow, second page! sorry for the wait. little power play with him relaxing ... if you don't like it i can change it. right, i don't know when you want to finish this off so i'm just gonna keep it going. when you do let me know, and try not to depend on me because i would keep it going until its night time or something. xD
Charis wondered where this could possibly go. She was becoming quite comfortable around him, even if she did not completely show it. He was so hard to read that now it was refreshing. Normally, it grew almost tiresome to try to categorize the influx of emotions that always played on another's face. But this brute had become more careful since spotting her, shutting and locking up his emotions tightly. She could not help but feel a drive to dig deeper, now that she had found out a few things about him, but it was as if they'd reached a stalemate, a wall that neither were willing to go around just yet. Perhaps with time it could work. Perhaps with a little devotion to the cause, they could both remove the frozen expressions and delve into a deeper understanding of one another.
But this was silly. Charis simply never allowed herself to let her guard down. Fantasizing about how wonderful it would be, for just a moment, to have someone understand her was unfathomable. Simply unreasonable. Anyone who thought they knew her would realize the impossibility of this. But still ... Something about him she found attractive, almost like too magnetic forces jerking them together. She needed someone to listen to her sometimes - on her long walks, on days where she felt overwhelmed. No one knew which days they were, of course, but they did come round. Maybe she could scrape a friendship - no, that was too hopeful - perhaps an alliance out of this greeting.
At her words, he seemed to soften his blank exterior. The fact that she had showed him more of her power had made her somewhat happy, an emotion she was not used to feeling. Something seemed to cross his mind then, she saw that his eyes were slightly glazed and grin spread across his face. She thought felt Red relax slightly beside her. She could feel it, like honey seeping over his features, softening them into something moldable and normal. Her face was still turned towards him, her ears perked and alert. The sunlight, fractured but still present, gleamed down on them both. Perhaps a memory that had just occurred to him. Politely she smiled and didn't speak, not wanting to break him from his reverie and perfectly comfortable in the silence. A few gulls flapped noisily above the trees, which was calm and uninterested. As they stood, Charis realized this was not all that bad. She didn't mind having a companion, and he certainly was a wolf she could appreciate. But just standing there and looking at him was quickly growing boring for her, and just as she was about to say something, he snapped out of his thoughts and said, in response to her former question, "I knew air is a powerful element to have, but I never thought..." He trailed off, shaking his head before continuing, "Never thought that it would be this great." But then that smile was back, softer, and she felt much more at ease again.
He whipped his face clean, but he had left the awe in his eyes. His next movement surprised her tremendously, which she knew showed it in her eyes, but mostly on her face as her lips parted letting out a faint gasp. He had bowed his head. As much as she could she tried to clean up the emotions on her face, but gotten only to closing her mouth. "I concede defeat. You are the better opponent." His comment quickly followed his previous speech, giving her almost no time to reply. But that was okay, because she had used those few moments for thinking on how to respond. With even, precise tones, she answered, "There is a certain type of soul that is good for those things. By that, I mean they are able to value what is needed to be valued, the core parts of our world, and not the superficial junk that clutters otherwise semi-intelligent minds." She paused for a moment, glancing over at him to survey his expression, then nodded her head in acknowledgment. "Thank you." she said, referring to his reverent speech about his defeat. "You played really well ... and I must admit that I doubt we are on the different levels, whatever you might think." Her words trailed off, molding nicely into the distinct hum of the sea. She let out a soft sigh, rolled her shoulders slightly, and tried to understand why she had the overwhelming urge to speak more. Things like this never happened to a girl like her. But it was happening. She'd taken a liking to Red, perhaps a liking that was strong enough to warrant a friendship. She'd never thought she'd enjoy another's company. She'd never thought she'd have the interest to want to keep a conversation going. But here it was - the opportunity had presented itself - and she turned her head towards him, finding his eyes with hers, and gave him a smile.
