It was cold, just like Brightness knew it would be. Even colder because he had left Kaly. He heaved a sigh, Kaly. The golden hybrid knew he shouldn't have left her. What a coward he was. What an earful he would get when he saw her again, if she would even talk to him. Being in love was hard. Almost every other thought was of the sunset colored wolf, each one giving him the contradicting feeling of soaring and having his heart squeezed at the same time. It was all so beautiful and scary that what else could he do but run?
Well the better option would have been to say and work things out with Kaly, but only hindsight gave the large wolf that wisdom. Now he had returned to the children, because he had no other place to go and he was hoping to run into Kaly again. Yet he was also dreading it so Brightness was avoiding all of the places he thought she might be.
His large paws made tracks in the snow covered ground, his dragging wings making streaks. Too cold, he had grown up in the tropics, much better climate than the valley, at least in the winter. Bri shook the snow collecting in his pelt off. He was travel wary and needed a good rest. An emotional reprieve. He looked around, at a loss as to where to den. He thought about Kaly's den for half a second and shook his head again. No good. The cave? Didn't want to run into Notch, for being a Lyxxus the kid was intimidating. Though Bri supposed it wasn't hard to intimidate him. But he knew what Lyxxi were capable of, what they lacked in size they generally made up with heart. At least all of the Lyxxi he knew were spunky.

Cresent smiled at the forest trees, she thought that maybe one area near a tree would be snow-free, at least enough to get a decent rest. She didn't know why she left the area that her den was in, she just wondered off. She licked her lips an her thoughts moved to Jackalopes and other small prey, and how they might prepare for the winter months and how easy it might be to catch them when they rest, and are at their weakest.
But Cresent was also at her weakest during this point in time, all creatures were. She sighed and thought of focusing on walking. In the time her thoughts danced of prey, she walked into...imprints in the snow? There must be another living creature here, she thought. Thinking of food, she tried her best to silently follow the tracks, and found a golden wolf.
"How curious, yet what a beautiful pelt!" She whispered excitedly to herself. She also noticed that the wolf had wings! Cresent grinned and ran in front of the wolf, not caring if he noticed her. "Hello, I'm Cresent, whats your name?" She said quickly. She was over-excited and didn't think of startling the wolf, she just wanted to meet as many wolves as possible.

Brightness nearly jumped two feet into the air at the sound of another voice. He hadn't really been expecting to run into anyone, he'd figure they would all be huddled up in their dens, with their loved ones. He also didn't expect such an enthusiastic greeting. Not many wolves in the Children trusted him. In fact most probably thought he was a spy from the Mafia. Though anyone who took the time to get to know him would know how far from the truth that was.
Turning his blue eyes landed on the stripped, wouldn't you know it, Lyxxus. The large wolf wondered if he had some sort of strange pheromone that attracted the species. He studied her for a moment, still struck speechless. Four tails, four years old.
"Uh, H-hi. I'm Brigh- Bri, you can call me Bri," he finally got his tongue to work. The she-wolf barely came up to Brightness' stomach. He felt like if he wanted too he would be able to crush her. Like Kaly. Bri gulped, he really needed to stop thinking about Kaly.
"W-what are you doing out in the cold?" He asked trying to be conversational. Keep things simple, don't say something to remind him of the girl he abandoned. Oh no, he was thinking about it.

Cresent gently smiled at the wolf and sighed contently. "I'm sorry if I scared you Bri, I was just enthusiastic at the sight of such a beautiful pelt!" She started to circle the wolf curiously, looking at every detail and shade of his golden pelt. "And those wings, I've seen a wolf with little ones, but yours, they're gigantic compared to those! They looked like little butterfly wings, yours are like a golden bird!" Cresent was referring to a Sennyo, but she hadn't learned the proper name for them yet, she's only seen one once but she didn't say the species name.
"I actually am not sure why I'm out in the snow, curiosity just got the best of me and poof, here I am!" She said, giggling between every word. She was truly excited to be around such a beautiful wolf, maybe they could be friends? "You look cold sweetie, the real question should be why are you in the cold?" Cresent didn't want to dig into personal matters, but she wasn't sure if it really was personal or not, maybe Bri just wanted to walk around.
Whatever the reason, Cresent wanted to help. Be it helping the golden wolf somehow or just talking, she wanted to be there. She will make a friend out of this wolf.

Bri blushed. Beautiful? Did she just call his pelt beautiful? No one had ever said that about him. He wasn't sure what to say. She was so enthusiastic about something so simple. What had he said about Lyxxi, spunky. "Th-thanks," he said nervously, no knowing what else to say. What did one say to such a complement. It wasn't like he could do much with his wings. Brightness was much to heavy to fly for very long and the color made hunting difficult. It shouted, 'Look here! There's a predator! Run away!' Nothing truly special, quite a hindrance actually. Though he guessed he would let Cresent have her fun admiring it. It was really sweet, and it did feel nice to be complemented. Even for something as silly as looks. If she could see the scars under all the fur she wouldn't think him so beautiful.
"I just got back from a trip," he said vaguely. Thinking about Kaly again, his heart twinged, " I don't exactly have a place to go. Uh, I'm looking for a place to den for the evening."
The golden hybrid folded and unfolded his wings nervously. He shook his pelt again, more snow had collected. He wondered where Cresent was going with this conversation. "How 'bout I escort you back to your den?" he suggested. That seemed like the proper thing to do. Take the lady back to her den. Though he knew better to stick around. Last time he had tried to comfort someone while they slept had been Kaly, and she hadn't reacted to well to that. Then again, when a wolf twice your size wraps himself around you he guessed she had a little right to be peeved. Though it had hurt.

Cresent frowned. Poor Bri, he didn't have a den to get to. She wondered where he went for a trip, maybe somewhere where it was a bit warmer, that would be nice. She perked back up though, didn't want to look mopey in front of Bri, and put on a smile when he offered to escort her back to her den.
Cresent gasped, her den must be halfway buried in snow by now! It would be impossible to find at this point, especially if it snowed more. She didn't want to worry Bri though, so she shook her head. "Oh Bri, its fine, I'd much rather be here. Its nice to get out sometimes."She sighed. "So, if you mind me asking, where did you go for your trip?"
The Lyxxi noticed the snow that collected on Bri's pelt that he shook off, then the snow that started to cover hers. She laughed a bit and dusted off some of the snow with her tails, and shook off the rest that her tails couldn't reach. She looked up at the sky and growled at it, Cresent wasn't too fond of the cold and how snow and ice would clump in her pelt and on occasion, not let go. It would be just annoying...

Looking at the stripped Lyxxus curiously he let the topic of taking her home drop. If she said she was fine he wasn't going to push her. Who was he to fight with her, besides it was nice feeling like someone cared about him. Kaly had cared. Brightness shook his head wishing his brain would just shut up already. How was he supposed to focus on the wolf in front of him if all he could think about was that tiny, adorably, angry, fiery Lyxxus.
"We, uh, I went to the cove. It's much warmer there this time of year," he smiled sadly," I should have stayed longer."
Should have stayed, should have went after Kaly instead of running away. Should have told her how he felt. But what would she have said? How could she possibly like him? Some coward who ran away from the Mafia. He didn't belong there, but neither did he belong here. And he definitely didn't belong with Kaly, she deserved so much better than him.
Bri shivered, the snow was picking up. The big lug raised his head and searched the sky mournfully. It wouldn't be a good idea to stay here. He turned back to Cresent, he needed to get her somewhere safe and warm before a real storm settle. Problem was, Brightness had never denned in the snow. Truthfully this was his first time really experiencing it. He trudged over to the Lyxxus and extended one wing over her," It's so much colder than what I'm used to. I grew up in the tropics," he explained."Here, we don't have to go back to your den but lets find a place more comfortable, yeah?"

Oh, a cove, she thought. I knew it would be a warmer place, but why would Bri go from such a nice place to here? Cresent sighed. She didn't want to nag herself with questions, and focused on what Bri would say and do next. She smiled, a more comfortable place. "Sounds perfect," She said. Maybe somewhere less snowy and cold, but it was the winter months, where would such a place even exist?
She didn't want to trouble herself ether with this, she didn't want this to happen or that to happen...Cresent shook her head angrily. Better get going soon to wherever Bri has in mind to the point its 'more comfortable'. She smiled more when Bri extended a wing over her, how sweet to shield me from the snow, she thought happily.
Cresent looked up at the sky more and knew that there would be more snow coming, and shivered. She then saw something move, something small in the snow-covered bushes. A Jackalope? "Excuse me for one moment please," She said before running off after it. She smiled, even if it was cold, the only time she could enjoy it was when she was running. After a chase, she finally caught the Jackalope and killed it.
She wasn't much of a hunter, but she could at least catch prey for herself when needed. Cresent started running around, trying to retrace her steps back to Bri, thankfully she hadn't taken too long, the imprints of her paws stayed at least partially visible, so she could follow them back. She then found Bri again and ran back to him.
"Sorry about that, I saw a Jackalope and, well, here I am!" She giggled and dropped the prey, then gently nudged it to Bri. "Thought you might be hungry," She said. Even if he wasn't, she thought it would be nice just to give him something for offering to take her to a better area. Given these conditions, anywhere sounded better.

Brightness was surprised when the Lyxxus suddenly darted off with only a few words in advance None that told him what she had seen or why she had run off. He stood slightly stunned as he waited for her to come back. The golden hybrid let out a mental sigh when he saw the red stripped pelt bounding back through snow and bush. Her colors rather stood out in the blinding white of the winter and Bri briefly mused that her colors would fare better in a prairie.
"Welcome back," he said with a light smile. When she offered him her catch he wasn't sure how to accept it. He was so used to being the one doing all the hunting. And he was so big that it took a lot to feed him. It often made him feel slightly embarrassed when he would eat twice as much as Kaly just to keep up his strength. But it would be rude not to accept and he hadn't eaten much sense he had gotten back. He wasn't one for hunting in the snow so finding food had been difficult.
"Thank you," he dipped his head in a brief bow, something of a habit of his, and picked up the large rodent. Mouth full he nodded for Cresent to follow him. He had seen a large hollow log not to long ago that he would actually be able to fit into if he crouched down, it would mean that Cresent would fit easily and the space would be warm with Bri's body heat. Once there he set the jackalope down and dug out the bit of snow that had fallen inside. He turned to Cresent and bowed,"After you m'lady."
It was such a habitual thing for Brightness to say that it wasn't till after he had said it that he remembered he had called Kaly the same thing. His lady, his jewel, his jem. Bri closed his eyes,'stop thinking, please stop thinking.' he pleaded with himself.

Cresent smiled when Bri accepted and ate the Jackalope she caught, and followed him to the fallen log. She saw that the log was hollow and smiled. "How smart, thank you for showing me this Bri." She said happily, while climbing into the log. She moved around a little inside of the log to get comfortable and sighed happily, it was much better than being in the open.
"You are very polite, you must have had a very good upbringing." Cresent commented, well it was true, and she felt like she had to thank him for that. Questions began to fill her head of this wolf's history and past, like how long he was part of this pack, who was his family, and all those questions that would probably annoy another wolf if they were asked.
But she got curious and asked away. "So Bri, I was wondering how long you've been in this pack, who is your family, your parents? They must be very polite, and I would like to meet them if I could." She smiled the entire time she asked these questions but also cringed a little, this may be personal, and Bri may get annoyed with her poking and prodding at his personal life.
Oh, I just hope its fine, and if he does find it annoying, I can just try to make it up to him. I'll find something, maybe I can find another Jackalope if this does wind up backfiring on me...

Everything was fine. Bri grabbed the jackalope and crawled in after Cresent, blocking the entrance with his back. He set the corpse down, situated himself and took a bite. The meat hit his stomach in the most satisfying way.
"You are very polite, you must have had a very good upbringing. So Bri, I was wondering how long you've been in this pack, who is your family, your parents? They must be very polite, and I would like to meet them if I could."
Brightness choked on his next bite. He swallowed thickly, forcing the food down instead of back up. He coughed and gasped for air. His eyes watered and throat burned. A good upbringing, yeah right, more like torturous. He was polite because he was better than that insufferable bitch. But he couldn't say that, it might hurt Cresent's feelings if he said it like that. How was she to know anything about his mother. He held his tongue for a second so he wouldn't snap. He let the detestable feelings toward his family settle before he spoke.
"Trust me, you wouldn't want to meet my mother," he said solemnly." As for the Children, I've been here about half a year. I like the place well enough, it was nicer in the summer but some of the wolves," he trailed off. He couldn't decide which was worse, thinking about his mother or thinking about Kaly.
"Some of the wolves are nice but I'm not exactly trusted," he concluded. "What about you, I didn't see you at the last pack meeting." Good idea, change the topic, talk about her instead. It would save Brightness from saying something incriminating, something to make her unnecessarily afraid of him.

Why would Bri not want me to meet his mother? Maybe she did something bad, but what? She wondered. Cresent sighed, and smiled at Bri. The collected body heat in the log warmed her, it was just nice to her. Winter is such an odd season, its like the cold comes and does what looks like killing the plants, then in the next season they grow back.
"There was a pack meeting? I've been in this pack for what I think has been two months!" She laughed throughout asking. Hopefully since she hasn't met most of the wolves, especially the alpha, her absence wouldn't have been noticed. Cresent smiled and thought of meeting more of the wolves, she wondered what they would have, the little wings, the big ones, or none at all. Maybe they would have something crazy, like maybe the antlers of a stag!
Cresent never met or even heard of a Yagi before, so she didn't know that sort of wolf could exist. She shook her head and looked at Bri, going back to the topic of him not being trusted. Why wouldn't he be trusted? Why couldn't he be trusted would be a better question. He seemed like such a nice wolf, so kind, he offered protection from the snow to her. If that isn't kind and trustworthy, I don't know what is, she thought.
She sighed and wondered, what if his mothers reputation is what made him not trustworthy? What if Bri himself did something? She just had to ask. "Bri, why aren't you trusted?"

"Ah, the pack meeting happened soon after I.... joined," he said taking another bite. Bri was beginning to thing he wasn't going to get away with not telling her his past. If he did it would invoke one of two reactions. Suspicion or pity, neither one that he appreciated. His ears twitched in resignation when she asked him why he wasn't trusted.
The large wolf shifted uncomfortable. Blue eyes almost pleading that she let it go. But if he didn't tell her she would find out from someone else. At least if it was him telling her he could tell the truth instead of speculation.
"I grew up in the Mafia," he conceded, he didn't look at her while he spoke, he didn't want to see her reaction. "I came here after faking my death, a guardian of the Children helped me and got seriously wounded. Reynard doesn't trust me, but you have to understand, the Mafia is a terrible pack, full of insane murderous wolves. I was the runt of my litter, a disappointment. Though mother never wanted us anyway she always liked Nightmare better," Brightness' voice dipped low into a bitter growl. He hated his brother and his mother. Every thing about the Mafia he detested. He peaked over at the Lyxxus, she was so small compared to him. There were on Lyxxi in the mafia, not that he knew of. The dastardly pack preferred big strong demented wolves. Maybe that's why he like Lyxxi so much, the all seemed so innocent and in need of protection.

Cresent didn't know how to react to Bri being part of a pack filled with murderers. If anyone here knew her any better, they would know that she had a very deep hatred to any wolves that killed their own kind, it was sick and wrong to her. But, thankfully Bri was an exception that Cresent was willing to overlook. He was a kind wolf, and knew it would be better to get out of that sick, sick pack.
As for being a runt, Cresent didn't believe in using a term that defines the weakest. There was just the pups that grew faster, and the ones that needed a little push. "Being a runt doesn't mean you would be a disappointment, what kind of mother did you have?" She said in a stern voice. Oh, she had half a mind to march over to whatever hell hole that pack lived in and strangle the mother with her tails until she learned that her actions were just wrong.
But that would go against her very values of not killing, even if a wolf 'deserved' it. Cresent sighed and growled. She tried to calm herself and failed, so she just tapped Bri on the head to get his attention. "Bri, you are a wonderful wolf. I honestly have no idea in the slightest why your mother would overlook such a gifted one like yourself. Clearly she must be ether blind or stupid." Cresent growled again, and looked down. She didn't mean to insult Bri's mother, maybe he still respected her and felt like Cresent had purposefully said that.
But she didn't, it just came out of her. Sure, she was angry, but that had not given her permission to bad mouth Bri's own mother, even if her actions were...unacceptable on Cresent's terms. "I apologize for insulting your mother, it wasn't right, even if she didn't want you, or any of your siblings." And she really meant every word. It just wasn't like her to have such an outburst like this, she needed to stay calm more often, if she were to properly watch the pups of the pack and make sure they didn't get in trouble.
"So, is Nightmare one of your siblings?"

A quiet chuckle escaped Brightness. What kind of mother did he have? Good question, the kind that should be a mother. One that would have no problem feeding her young to her cannibalistic pack mates. How many times had she threatened to feed him to Flynn? Too many to count. And who would call Brightness a runt now. He was a force to be reckoned with, though his brother was larger still.
"I'm not offended Cresent, I hate my mother. And my brother. They are not pleasant wolves, they belong in the Mafia," a place he could never belong. He wished to belong to the Children but he wasn't sure he belonged there either. But he found himself unable to leave. Whether that was because Kaly or not... well it probably was because Kaly. Otherwise he might have just traveled with Crow.
"Nightmare is my only brother. He's big, vicious and a malicious bully. If mother was capable of love he would be more likely to receive it," he laid his head down on he outstretched paws. It had been a while sense he had reminisced and dragged up all these bitter feelings. It helped a bit getting them off his chest but now would be a good time for a change of topic, or a nice nap.
"What about your family?" he asked.
