What Boredom Drives Us To (Working title) [OPEN]

(OOC: This is my first thread on Wonderwhy, or indeed any Roleplaying site which works with forums rather than chat-rooms. So if I horrifically mess up, please don't kill me. A lot of it's setting the scene, so please bear with me. Also, could a staff member play a griffin?)

So yeah, she was here, and yeah, she was looking to kill a griffin single-handed, but hey- she was bored. And boredom can drive wolves to some pretty terrible things.
Lyta was also pretty reckless and ever-so-slightlyarrogant, but she didn't dwell on that.
She'd been very, very bored before she came here and built her trap. She was naturally a wolf with four itchy paws and thirty-two itchy razor-sharp retractable Lyxxa claws. So she'd come here thinking it was all fighting and glory and struggles for power filled with honour and hope and camaraderie between beautiful heroes while lesser wolves stood by and applauded. When she'd turned up, she'd found out it wasn't quite like that. She'd beaten some dumb Sennyo and got herself in as a Subordinate, and that was yesterday. Neither alpha had decided to speak to her yet- or the Betas, or the Delta, or any other Subordinates, or anybody apart from Swifty and Gypsy, and they'd been talking to her through sheer necessity. For goodness' sake, she'd hardly even seen anybody except them.
So with no ideas what her duties were and no orders, she had been getting very bored. Boredom had driven her to some pretty stupid things in the past and she wasn't about to change that.
Lyta, being a reckless wolf, had therefore decided to come up with a Plan. The sort of reckless, idiotic Plan that had made her so famous with the Guardians. She hoped it could win her favour here, too.
It had been a few hours since she'd set her griffin-trap. A large boulder, already teetering on the edge of the cliff. A jackalope covered in fresh blood on the rocks below. As soon as a griffin came to eat it, pow, she would drop the rocks on it and drag its body back to a hopefully very impressed pair of alphas.
She shifted slightly, finding a more comfortable position to wait for a griffin in.
That was when the griffin-scent hit her.
And it wasn't coming from below, by the jackalope.
It was coming from behind her.

((OOC: Just a warning, this griffin, or any griffin will easily be able to kill a lyxxus if they want to. I will not kill your character unless you want me too, but know that she may not get out of this with out a severe wound. A lyxxus cannot kill a griffin on it's own, though the rock thing might be enough to deter a fatal attack if it were to fall.))

Soaring high above the canyon on a rare winter thermal was an adult female griffin. Her golden wings were warming in the fun and her deep amber eyes were searching for something to amuse herself. The wind carried a fresh scent to her nares. The eagle head turned to and fro to pinpoint the location. There....a carcass. She adjusted her trajectory. Wait. Something was not right. She circled a few more times. It was under a teetering rock. She mentally scoffed. She had grown up in the canyon, she knew how to avoid precarious rocks.

She was about to turn back when another site caught her eyes. A wolf? Ah, one of the little wolves. She clicked her beak excitedly. Some entertainment for her perhaps? She landed a few yards away from the distracted lyxxus. She tilted her head a little, why was it behind the rock? Didn't it see that the rock was fixing to fall? Silly wolf.

The griffin was many times the size and weight of the lyxxus. She fluffed up her feathers and screeched in the direction of the wolf, she reared back and clawed the air. She stood 40 inches (101.6 cm) and weighed 300 pounds (136 kg), she flared her wings. She wanted to warn her quarry, so it would be more fun to hunt.

(OOC: I'd rather not Lyta ended up dead, as she's my fave of all the charries I lug around from website to website, and it's not even that long since I made her. But I don't mind some injuries. I mostly wanted a fight, 'cause I was bored, and it was a very Lyta-ish thing to do.)

Lyta whipped around to see the griffin flaring her wings. She froze with abject terror, then forced herself to move, slowly backing away and to the left. There was no hope that the griffin hadn't noticed her. But she needed to move before fear kept her still. Kept her dead.
I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead, a voice seemed to be saying right at the back of her mind. It was as though time slowed down. Lyta gave a howl, calling for help, then turned and ran.
Or tried to. The cliff curved all around, there was nowhere she could go. Stupid.
She whipped back around to face the griffin. Forcing herself to think calmly, she kept moving, weaving from side to side, looking for an opening. You're a Guardian, Lyta, she thought to herself. Think higher! What would your mentor say?
She kept her feet moving, agile wits searching for a plan. And then she found one. Of course, this was counting upon the griffin either being extremely stupid or extremely bad at braking.
Lyta backed onto the rocks and looked up at the griffin.
"Hey, ugly," she called. She didn't know if the griffin could understand, but she hoped. "What ya doing so far from your mother, you big cry-baby? You're nothing but a useless worm-thingy!"
She watched the griffin out of the corner of her eye as she spat on the ground contemptuously. Come and get me if you think you're hard enough.
She didn't know if she'd thought it or if it had come out out loud. It didn't matter. She focused on the plan.

The griffin ran after her, folding her wings to her side. It seemed silly to fly so close to the prey unless necessary. She tilted her head at the mocking words. She was still young so she could not really understand the wolf. However she knew enough to mimic to words that seemed important.

"Ugly. Worm-thingie!" She matched the tone as best she could, proud that she was able to mirror the mockery. She took note of the spiteful spitting. That she understood as a taunt. She chased the wolf , her beak clicking in anticipation. She covered ground easily enough as she nipped at the trailing tails of the lyxxus.

Perhaps she was too focused on her target to really pay attention to where she was going, all she knew is that she was enjoying the chase whether or not she got the prize at the end. She didn't really pay any mind to the desperate howl that the wolf had sent out either.

Lyta barked anxiously, dog-like, as the griffin mirrored her words behind her. She jumped up onto the piled rocks, fighting to keep calm, and howled again, short and panicked. She really needed some backup pretty quick, or she wasn't going to get out of this without getting halfway out of life as well. Possibly the other half too if she couldn't make it to an Epsilon or some wolf who knew remedies in time.
She backed right to the edge and gave a glance behind her. The cliff was at her heels, tails draping over the side. Gulp.
She fluffed up her fiery red fur, attempting to look intimidating, like she wasn't frightened, or at least not quite as small as she was. She unsheathed and sheathed her claws a few times, watching the griffin near her, before deciding to leave them sheathed. She'd only blunt them on the rocks.
Then she waited. She knew the general predator's way; stalk your prey, then pounce. If the griffin acted like a regular predator, it would pounce or lunge or attack. If it didn't... she would come to that later.
She was ready. Pretending to slip, she lay there on the very edge of the cliff, lying on her side. This was going to break some bones. But what choice did she have?

The griffin watched the wolf scramble up some rocks, a couple dislodged. The beast swerved to avoid the little boulders and then shifted direction to come up the other side of the rocks. She dug her claws into the crevices shaking the pile and removing a few more. She had a mind to pull the rocks out from under the wolf and have her roll into her beak. Why risk food going off the edge?

However, a very aggravated sound emitted from the rocks very near her face. Her attention immediately shifted from hunt to alarm. A large rattle snake had been hibernating in that pile, and the griffin had uncovered it's pit. It struck out of the hole, just barely missing the bird-beast. She pulled her head back just in time and reared back, flaring her wings and clawing the air once more.

She hated snakes. She had seen one bite and kill her younger brother. Now she had an irrational fear and hatred for them. She brought a taloned foot down to swipe at the head of the emerging serpent. The ill-tempered reptile coiled and reared, hissing menacingly. The griffin momentarily forgot her quarry. Giving the wolf a chance to run for safety.

Lyta saw the griffin distracted. Then she saw the snake. Howling in abject terror, she almost turned and ran, then realised the cliff was at her paws. Scrambling back, she bolted, running along the cliff away from the griffin. She was safe!
She let out a howl for help again, just in case the griffin got over the shock.
This was not going to impress either alpha. She'd wasted her time, a jackalope, and nearly her life.
She stopped short at that. Lyta was an ambitious wolf with a burning desire to rise in the ranks. The entire reason she'd got herself into this... mess.. had been to bring a griffin's body home and impress everybody. Now? Now all she'd have to show everybody was a very bad piece of news- that a very angry griffin was lurking in the Crevice.
She whipped round and watched the griffin. She was at a safe enough distance to make it out if the griffin pursued her- hopefully. But if the griffin went for the jackalope, she could still do this thing. Or if help arrived. Or if the original plan went off.... she went through the moves in her head, visualising every one; leap, claw, leap, claw, roll, spin, bite, grip, leap. She had it.
It all depended on whether the griffin did what Lyta wanted it to do. She watched it carefully. "C'mon, c'mon... she whispered without even noticing. "C'mon. Go for the jackalope. Or fall off the cliff. Or something. Just don't let me mess up this badly..."

With a few well placed swipes of her powerful talons the menacing snake was in pieces. She cawed in victory and quickly swallowed the meat. It was a snack, the jackalope would have been better if it was not under a giant rock. She licked her beak and looked around. What was she doing? She looked around fluffing her wings and head feathers. The wolf, where did it go?

One bad thing about having a bird head was the lack of a decent nose. Her eyes however where sharper than those of the wolves. She looked toward the edge of the cliffs. THERE! She saw the wolf, it was just standing there staring at her. Did it still want to play? She opened her wings, flapped a few times and aimed herself toward the small wolf.

Lyta waited. And waited. She waited until the griffin was almost on top of her, its eyes close and terrifying. She was more afraid than she'd ever been in her life before.
And then she jumped. She leapt, throwing herself in the air at the griffin. It was a stupid thing. It was reckless and stupid and if she'd done it as a Guardian trainee she would have ended up with more punishment duty than anyone had ever done in history.
It was also a very Lyta thing. Lyta did those kind of things. She wasn't sure why, in most cases. Now? Because she had no option.
She snagged a claw in the feathers over the griffin's beak and yanked herself up between its eyes. She hung on furiously. From here, the griffin couldn't get her with its claws or beak, but it could easily shake her off if she wasn't careful. She dug her claws in and howled, pulling herself further onto the griffin and down towards its back, trying to get to the place behind the neck where all animals have a weak spot. From there, if she could hit the jugular...

The griffin was startled when the morsel leaped for her face, she reared back to hover and lowered her head so she could claw at the wolf. She snapped at the tail that was dangling near her beak, all the while shaking and flapping her wings.

An eerie feeling came over her as it crawled to her neck. Bleck! It felt like a tick digging into her neck. Once she felt she knew where the wolf was going she shot further up into the air and beat her wings to propel her forward. Once she had good speed she did a barrel roll over the top of the cliffs trying to dislodge the parasite.

She was not too high that it would be a deadly fall, but if she did shake the wolf, Lyta would feel it in the morning.

It looked so quiet, so barren... so calm... until... what? Rhiannon heard the griffin and turned towards the sound. Some wolf apparently had a deathwish with it. Quirking a brow, she inhaled sharply. The wolf, a female, smelled of the pack, which meant she was a pack member. Rhiannon had been away so long she hardly knew who was part of the pack and who was not. Clearly she had been accepted, probably by Forte or Gypsy. She inhaled again, trying to smell out Kai's sent. Nothing. She wrinkled her nose in distaste and then focused her attention back on the griffin. The myou sprung into action, her large paws pulling her across the shore of the river to the crevice. Didn't anyone teach the stupid little wolf that the griffins were in the crevice? She scowled horribly, her tail vertical behind her as she ran. The griffin flew up into the air as the small wolf crawled to its neck. Oh, lovely. There didn't seem to be too many other griffins around, which was good. If she needed to she'd call Forte for back up. That was... if he was still here. The griffin tucked into a barrel roll and at that moment Rhiannon sprung, her paws outstretched, aiming to collide into the creature. A stupid move, perhaps, but it would give enough time for the wolf above to kill the thing. Her blunt claws aimed to grasp at its unprotected belly, her jaw wide open, teeth bared, to secure her catch. ------------------------------------- OOC ;; First roleplay post in forever. (OOC: YAY! Somebody replied Apart from the creature account, which is also awesome. Apologise for interfering? THANKYOU for interfering! ...oh my finnick I can't spell interfering any more, I had to backspace and retype that thrice before I got it right. Too early in the morning.
I have to ask, though, what does ILU stand for? *looks embarrassed for not knowing*)

Lyta hung on furiously as she sunk her claws in. She gave herself three anchored paws before moving the next one. Steadily she moved towards her aiming-point. She hissed as it came within her reach and for a split second wondered whether to take another step and be close for a solid, safely anchored swing, or to stay where she was and reach out for it.
That would be about when the griffin barrel-rolled. Lyta had time for a desperate, wild strike out at anything, anyone; she didn't know who or what or whether she hit it- all she knew was that her world was spinning around her. With a yelp she tried to hang on, to take another swing, but it was useless; she fell off. With all her strength she summoned up memories of being dropped from trees, so long ago in a forest on a mountainside, and having to breakfall, over and over again. She twisted in the air and as she landed she rolled onto her side, absorbing a little of the shock. Thankfully, she hadn't fallen off the cliff- no amount of breakfalling would have saved her then.
She jumped to her feet, still not knowing if the griffin was dead or alive. She suddenly noticed the red fluffy wolf. She registered it then; she completely hadn't noticed at the time, but there'd been another wolf, who'd jumped at the griffin. She smelt strongly of the pack, but she didn't recognise her at first.
Focusing on the fight again, Lyta approached the griffin, growling fiercely.

(OOC: Trying to be careful not to specify exactly what the 'fluffy red wolf' was doing as Lyta looked at her, or what the griffin was doing as Lyta approached it. I'm pretty sure that the last sentence would suffice for approaching a growling flying thing or a dead body, but please correct me if I'm wrong since I'm not so experienced. Well, not at this style anyway.)

She screamed through the air, thrashing at nothing. She came out of the roll and felt the wind go from her as she was hit from underneath. She screeched when she felt fang and claw in her belly. Bucking, she attempted to throw or claw or kick the larger wolf off of her. She felt a sting behind her eye, as well as warm wet blood matting her feathers. Maybe the small wolf had hit her after all. She glared down, seeing the cat-like wolf hit the ground.

Again, she was not looking where she was going, her wings pounded the air in a type of madness. She attempted to lower her head and snap at the red wolf. However, in doing that her direction changed and she pitched to the left. She felt a cold shadow on her and looked up just in time to see a rock face. With a panicked and shrill cry she rolled again so her shoulder would hit rather than her face.

There was a snap and a pop and then searing pain as she slumped against the rock and gravity slid her down to the base of the rock. Her talons scrabbled for a grip, but the pain was too much. She had either broken or dislocated her wing...or was it her shoulder...she could not tell.

She immediately worked her jaw to secure her grip, holding on tightly. She expected the griffin to buck, which it did, and she clung on, her paws feebly trying to hold on despite the movement. It was her paws that went first, and once that grip was lost, she soon abandoned her post on its stomach. Coiling, she managed to land on her paws, shaking for a moment from the fall and then regaining her composure. The other wolf seemed to have come off the griffin as well, and she stared at her for a moment before turning right back to the griffin, who seemed to be in a wild rage. Rhiannon snarled, her hackles raising and making her already fluffy body appear fluffier. The griffin swung into a rock shelf and there was a sickening pop noise. The female curled her lip in distaste and then sprung at the griffin again, her head tucked, trying to head butt the griffin. It was already having a hard time gripping onto the rocks, and she aimed to push it down onto its side. That way the beast would have little leverage. ------------------------------------- OOC ;; Okay, good. <3 and your post was fine, no worries. Mine is short. x3 Still getting back into roleplaying.

Lyta snapped into fierce, fast motion again as the fluffy red wolf sprang at the griffin again. She leapt out of her low, stalking approach-stance and helped the wolf pin down the griffin on its side. She recognised the pop, having heard it far too many times before; a dislocation, possibly a break. She snarled at the injured griffin as she pushed both front paws onto its head. She'd never been taught to hold down a griffin, despite the Guardian fighting style having been focused on throws and hold-downs; only ever another wolf. What she did know was that the most important place to pin down was the head. Anyone who had ever tried sitting up with somebody's paw on their head could tell you it was far more difficult that sitting up with twenty paws on their hindquarters. The further up, the harder it was to sit up.
She checked its limbs, unfortunately two wings made six and she wasn't exactly big enough to trap them all, or even just a few like she'd do to a fallen wolf. She eventually settled for putting all her weight onto the head and growling in the griffin's ear. It wasn't perfect, and Lyta hated not being perfect, but it would do.

(OOC: I prefer short posts anyway, it makes me feel bad when everybody else is going on for pages and pages and I've got a paragraph or two. Being fresh out of stars-style RP (you might call it action-asterisk), I still value lots of short, action-filled posts with everybody involved rather than one or two detailed posts full of overdone description and thinking.)
