The ground was still wet from an early rain. The scent of the place was almost suffocating, entrapping. Why did she even bother coming down here? It was not like her to seek out someone. Maybe all the pack drama with making an alliance had wore her down. Being in a pack, let alone a keystone member was trying. She needed a break, why not go seek someone she could actually hold a conversation with? Yeah. That was it. That's why she was here.
The willowy female carefully stepped her way through the entangling roots and grasping branches. Her blue morpho wings seemed vibrant in the strange lighting of the jungle. Her antennae bobbed in front of her cold blue eyes. She could smell that she was near the border of the Mafia lands. She debating stepping in, however she opted not to cross the boundary until she caught his scent. She new about the Mafia's reputation. She knew she was not much against brawn, so she would keep her wits about her.
Last time she went looking for this guy she found him and had been pleasantly surprised. This time, she considered that maybe she was taking a leap. He had even mentioned that he traveled a lot. Hell she had not been in her own pack territory for more than a day over the past few months. The sennyo sighed, her jaded outlook on life closing yet again. This was stupid. She shook out her silky black pelt and rolled her narrow shoulders back.
Now she was just frustrated, she could not find his scent, and her patience was wearing thin. Her small frame threaded through the trees. Her delicate nose picked up the scent of some ripening fruit. She scanned the canopies, trying to find where it was coming from. It didn't take long for her to find the fruit. It was on a relatively low hanging branch that she would have to figure out how to get to. She deftly leaped upon a large root and stretched her thin body up the rest of the way of the massive trunk. Her feather light tail swished with determination as she reached with her small maw to grasp one with her teeth.

The large lupus was well satiated after his tedious day of hunting and sleeping to revive his strength after his travels up north. He would not have the need to leave the pack soon especially as he had hope that Tor might be with pup and he now had the responsibility to ensure all was operating with cold efficiently and surgical precision. Growling in satisfaction he marched confidently through his lands, prowling for mischief and hoping to find something with which to occupy his time. This sense of restlessness was what caused the fire lupus to be so successful, he could not stand to be still and was always in the process of improving and perfecting his life.
As he walked his nose picked up the scent of a wolf he was sure could not belong to his pack, it had the various scents of other wolves entwined within it and snarling gruffly he set of at a quicker pace, stalking the lone wolf with a fierce determination. If there was one thing the Don had no tolerance for it was trespassers in his land and he would deal accordingly with the situation. Through the shadows he moved, sleek body stealthily pushing him forward as his muscles effortlessly helped him to avoid obstructions in the path before him.
And there, between the branches his sharp eyes caught sight of a blue flash of wings! Grinning coldly he surfaced from the shadows, crouched in a stalking position as his fur rippled with a blood red sheen. His ocean blue eyes gleamed as he gazed unabashedly at the wolf that stood before him, a sennyo and a female which in Scorch's mind was no threat. The contrast of the dark pelt against the exotic wings was startling and reminded him of a priceless gem, to be stolen and kept for bargaining. In a dangerously smooth voice he noted, "How interesting, are we not a little far from home? And so rather alone in my territory. You had best have a damn good excuse for being here, I would hate to waste such a unique hide..."
The tips of his white fangs shone between his smile as he sniffed at the air, evidently not an empire member and therefore his for the taking. But first fun, always pleasure and business was the Don's motto, one without the other simply made no sense. Moving with a deadly grace he circled the sennyo, his movements deliberately menacing as a low growl rumbled deep from within his chest. His eyes however remained alight with a devious sense of curiosity; what might this wolf have to say for herself?

With a smooth movement she brought the fruit back down to her dainty paws and remained perched on the root to give her height against her oppressor. Her cold eyes linked with his showing no emotion or acknowledgement of his rank. She listened to his berate and casually licked the juice off her pretty maw.
She looked down at him, her tail rising back to it's natural height. "My home is where ever I find convenient at the time. Your territory? Last I smelled, your territory starts three yards from where we are. I'm not in it, nor do I intend to enter it." She bent down to take a bite out of her fruit, keeping her ears pinned in his direction.
She didn't want to give him an opportunity to attack. However she didn't show any fear either. She was a confident female to say the least. Even against a wolf twice her size. She lifted her eyes back up to him as he began circling to her. "Calm down kiddo, after I eat I am on my way again." Her cool words were laced with poison. There was a dangerous, note in her eyes. Her reason for being here was none of his business. She wondered if this was Sylvester, the Don of the Mafia.

Scorch chuckled, the sound was empty however and the chilling smile did not reach his eyes. It did not matter to the territorial wolf that the female was not quite in his lands, it was still too close for his liking. But the Don would play along, if he got particularly bored he would simply remove the sennyo regardless of the circumstance; he was in a brawling mood and his little spat with Arkham had done little but to wet his appetite for more. "Surely you are aware that such little measurements are trifle matters to the Mafia? Three yards is plenty close enough for my liking..." He sneered the last, pack border lands had never been much of an issue for the rogue wolf before, though the circumstances were different considering his new acquisition.
The Don decided to wait a bit, curious to see why a wolf would wander from her own pack near such a volatile groups of wolves. Poised in a commanding manner his stance demonstrated ranking without the pompous starch movements; a similar stance that he had always held but now he held it with a reason. Raising a brow he commented in a silky voice, "Leaving so soon? But you just barely arrived...it would be a shame to allow you to escape our little encounter." From under his paws smoke from the slowly roasting vegetation rose as he stood in between the way out and the entrance to his adored land.
Then quick as a whip he changed his mannerism, adopting a more civil approach as it was befitting to the circumstances. After all, there wasn't any reason to be uncivil as of yet. Remarking casually he said, "It would seem like common courtesy to exchange names, I am Scorch, Don to the new Mafia and therefore you must understand my reaction to your presence so close to pack lands." His gaze remained focused on the female before him, crystal blue light reflecting in their depths. Sennyos are so peculiar, thought Scorch, I suppose living that long could affect most any wolf.

She rolled her eyes, "Oh yes, I forgot that the Mafia is a group of egotistical, blood-thirsty, muscle heads." Her eyes narrowed at him, she was no threat to him he had no reason to be acting this way, then she considered something. "Well that might not be entirely true of the whole pack...but when a pack gets that reputation, you must know there is truth behind it." She was not impressed at his little smoke show, she was high enough to not have her breathing hindered by it.
"I come and go as I please where I please. I came here for a reason," She listened to him switch his manners. Typical male, wanting to flaunt. Her ears caught his name and she frowned a bit. So someone beat Gotham to it? Fine. His scent wasn't around anyway. "Obviously the reason isn't here, so there is no longer a reason for me to be here any longer."
She was not in the mood for games, and he had done nothing to deserve to hear her name. So she declined to provide it. She flicked her tail a little and turned to dismount the root away from him. She alighted to the ground with a soft thud. Her antenna folded back on her head, down her neck as she glanced over her shoulder at him. She clearly looked hi up and down, sizing up his...prowess so to speak.
"Better put yourself out before you burn your precious land." She took a few steps away from him and his land, her supple hips sashaying a little as she went. Her ears remained back listening to his retorts or reactions that would cause her pause.

Scorch narrowed his eyes, it was one thing to insult him and another entirely to insult his pack, and once again his disposition became hostile. Evidently this vixen knew little about his pack and Scorch was now too annoyed to bother elaborating. Lifting the corner of his maw in disgust he growled out between clenched teeth, "So you say, and perhaps this may be true of the old pack, but in all evidence you know little about my pack." He left the subject at that, he would not waste his time defending what did not need defending to a wolf that regarded his pack in such a dismissive manner. Maybe Scorch should give the female something to consider, an amusing idea indeed.
She had declined to respond to his attempts at being mildly mannered, omitting replying with her own name. The male lupus was fine with that, names of wolves that were of no importance were mere trivial matters that did not matter in the scheme of his plans. He shrugged his shoulders, muscles rolling under the flesh in a dismissive gesture. Fine then, Scorch much preferred over ruling formalities and simply skipping pleasantries altogether.
He watched angrily as she jumped down from her root, landing and throwing him a look that he was rather familiar with, females that played hard to get but secretly desired what the males had to offer. Tor had been the only exception he had ever met, she had stood strong in her opinion, had not withheld her interest and had earned his respect. His lovely mate had proved to be more than a conquest, becoming his equal and partner in crime. Fact of the matter was he had been growing tired of the silly games that were played between males and females. If someone was interested Scorch was much more inclined to respond to a more aggressive approach. Of course that had been before he had chosen Tor as his mate, the male lupus could never get enough of being around the powerful lightning lupus.
Put himself out? Looking down he realized that he had started to use some of his elemental energy during the encounter and smoke was rising from the earth. Snorting in amusement he simply moved over, the jungle was a quick healer, much like himself, and soon vegetation would overgrow his little burn. Besides, clearing out the old left room for the new....He watched the female sway her hips provocatively, a scowl on his face as one of his ears bent backward in annoyance. What the hell was this wolf playing at? It did not matter either way, as long as she did not cause trouble or do something foolish. "Very well then, if there really is no reason for you to be here then do fly away butterfly. But don't get lost, the jungle can be a rather unforgiving place." Scorch's words were laced with sarcasm, he should like nothing more then to see the female enter his land and give him good cause for crushing the air of saucy confidence.

A dark Sennyo slowed as he neared the Mafia lands. He had been bored, and when Gotham got bored he wandered. However, he couldn’t go too far. He wasn’t yet satisfied with the information he had gathered in this area and there was the pesky matter of the pack he had joined. He couldn’t just leave this pack without possible repercussions down the line. And that was unacceptable.
But the nearer he drew, the more he realized that something had changed. The smell was different and he suspected that someone had stolen his idea of taking control of the Mafia. No matter. His interest was never in power anyway. Power was useful as a means to an end, but it was not something that Gotham had a burning desire for. Controlling the Mafia would have been an interesting diversion and might have proven useful in his search, but the loss of the opportunity did not trouble him.
What did trouble him slightly was the reality of a new leader. Perhaps now was the best time to leave the pack entirely. With his recent absence, his loyalty might be questioned. Although he really had no affection for the apparently former Don, the new leader probably wouldn’t know that. Gotham had no idea how the change of power had gone down. Although he personally preferred bloodless rebellion, most did not have his special gifts that could make that a reality. It was far more likely, with the membership of the Mafia, that the change of power had been…messy. And if his presence had not been missed by now, perhaps this would provide his easy exit to this turbulent pack.
He had almost completely talked himself into just slipping away when a completely unexpected scent caught his attention. His eyes widened in shock, as though he had been smacked. What on earth was she doing here? His navy eyes scanned the dense plant life before him. Although he was unsure of what a change in leadership meant for members of the Mafia, he was almost certain that the policy toward outsiders would not have changed.
A strange sensation came over Gotham. It was perhaps less strange than unfamiliar. He was worried about her. It wasn’t that he thought that she was weak, simply that, for the first time in a very long while, he had made a friend who he cared about and was genuinely concerned for her well being. And the jungle was not a safe place for outsiders.
Her scent was still fresh and strong. She couldn’t have passed this way that long ago. He followed her scent with all the speed the dense undergrowth would allow. His small paws made little sound, despite his hurry. He rounded a large tree and stopped short. He felt momentary relief to see that Gypsy was in one piece, but it was fleeting as he noticed the smoldering Lupus behind her. Gotham didn’t recognize the lupus, but that wasn’t unusual for the forgetful Sennyo. He thought he might have seen him once or twice in passing, perhaps during a pack meeting or simply while traveling through the jungle. But he couldn’t be sure. He would have to wait for cues from the other to tell if they were acquaintances or strangers.
It suddenly occurred to him that he had no idea if Gypsy needed his help at all. Perhaps she had a reason to be here, meeting with this Lupus. Perhaps some kind of duty to her pack. It had been foolish, and rather unlike him to just rush in here. He should have used his stealth to observe before butting in. But it was too late for actions that would have made sense. “I hope I’m not interrupting,” he said cautiously, gaze shifting between the other two.

Not much is known about the Mafia, aside the little bit I just told you. Rumors are hard prey to kill you know." With out further response she turned away and began to pad off into the thick vegetation.
His parting phrase was enough to raise her ire. She turned with a small growl on her pretty face. Her retort was on her lips, but stopped short as another dark, slender figure emerged from the darkness. Her ears went back and she glared at Gotham. She looked at Scorch, then back at the reason came here. "Guess your plans changed. Or did you forget what we talked about?" Like a poison-tipped whip her words lashed out. Frankly, better at someone who knew her than at the alpha of the land she was so close to trespassing on.
She was a little bristled, she was capable of taking care of herself. But something about the fire lupus and the arrival of her acquaintance rubbed her the wrong way. She came here looking for the sennyo and there he was, popping up like he always seemed to do. it was aggravating. Yet just a few moments ago she was aggravated at his lack of punctuality. Aggravating.

Scorch chuckled, work indeed, it was all fun and games until someone died for the Don and he had been working for quite some time now as it were and he had little intentions of stopping. Yes, the sennyo had no idea how much work was left...It appeared as though the female was inclined to turn around and retort, not a wise decision in Scorch’s opinion as he was really looking forward to moseying on back to his den for an afternoon nap. But it would seem that such cards were not in his future as his clean break was disturbed by the arrival of another sennyo.
Another wolf come to trespass on the mafia lands? The pair seemed to know each other, could it be an ambush? The fur on the back of his muscled hide rose as his eyes narrowed in suspicion for if this ridiculous pair thought they could take the hot head they had a sharp reality coming to them. And then he smelt it, the distinct scent that all mafia members seemed to carry, delicious and hot jungle mixed with varying tinges of scents that all did not bode especially well, easily recognizable by the Don. This male had not been recently accepted, Scorch made damn sure he knew who resided in his territory but neither had he presented himself when Scorch had raised the call demanding that old mafia members face him. How interesting, Scorch thought coldly as his mind began to work, well oiled wheels clicking together smoothly.
The thought that this impotent wretch had dared to omit showing his face enraged the lupus, driving his blood to a boiling frenzy. But he would not attack, maybe this wolf knew where he might find other former mafia members, he would welcome the knowledge of their location just as his trusted would welcome the chance to shed blood. His voice rose in anger, the deep and commanding sound lashing out like a whip into the air, “Who the hell are you to show your face here? I can smell the mafia on you, and yet you are no wolf of my pack nor did you deem it wise to show your face when I called.” The blue in his eyes flashed dangerously, small flames beginning to lick through his fur as if in waiting for what may transpire.
The beast had awakened and now threatened to claim his hold on control, but the Don kept a firm hold while he could, his face a heinous display of controlled rage as his jaw quivered with the effort to hold back. “As the new Don I now request a reason for your actions, there had best be a damn good motive for this treachery and display of cowardice. None of the former mafia deemed it wise to show their face when called and all of you now have to answer to a new reign. Remember that there is no out of the mafia, and hell awaits those that do not answer with caution.” Furious as he was he was willing to spare this wolf the benefit of the doubt, nothing more and nothing less.

Gotham eyes narrowed at Gypsy’s tone. He wasn’t sure what he had expected from her, but the words she had chosen were certainly nowhere near the top of the list. She was upset at him…for not taking over the Mafia himself? Why should she be upset about that? They had talked about it, but whether he took over the pack or not had no effect on her…right? Had she expected to gain something from his actions? And then to add a dig at his forgetfulness…that was just uncalled for. Just when he thought he had someone he could talk to again he was reminded why he usually left everyone behind. But before he could respond to Gypsy, the Lupus made himself impossible to ignore.
Oh, joy. He was right. And with the welcome he had just received from Gypsy, he probably would have been better off slipping away and blast it was too late to think about everything he should have done. Now he had to do damage control. And things just kept getting better. Not only had he run into a Mafia member that apparently didn’t know him, no, he had run smack into the new Don of the pack. And now he was demanding all sorts of explanations. This was all so tedious.
Gotham knew this was going to go one of two ways. There was a possibility that he would be able to talk his way out of this mess. But the new Don didn’t seem to have the most pleasant temperament and clearly the old Mafia members were unwelcome. It seemed far more likely that he would have to use his powers to get out of this. But then there was the complication of Gypsy’s presence. He usually avoided using his powers when there were witnesses present. Before today he wouldn’t have hesitated using his powers in front of her; he had even considered letting her in on his little secret. But with her anger today he was unsure as to how she would react to the revelation that he could manipulate memories at will.
But for now he would try to talk it out. His powers were a last resort. One he was very willing to use in order to save his life, but only if he didn’t think there was another way.
“My name is Gotham,” he began in a steady voice. He spoke up, not too loudly, but with a careful confidence. He would not show the new Don fear, but he also didn’t want to go so far as to offend him. “Indeed I am a member of the former Mafia. I am a spy by trade and I have been out gathering information. As such I was not nearby to hear your summons or even to receive news of changes in the pack until I returned. I did not abandon my pack, but rather was out gathering information to strengthen it. I serve the Don, and if that rank now belongs to you, then I serve you, if you will have me.” It was mostly true.
He really wished he had observed for a while before he had to face this new leader. He had no idea what might set the new Don off. And given that Gypsy had already gotten him riled up before Gotham arrived there was a good chance that she might set him off even further now…

She had a bad habit of misplacing anger when ever it reared it's ugly head. But the hot-headed lupus just itched her nerves. So brazen and boastful, why did she even consider proposing an alliance with the Mafia? her frozen eyes glanced back at the dark male sennyo. Oh yeah. He was the reason she had considered it. Well that plan was out the window. Maybe for the better.
Her ears flickered back as the abrasive lupus chastised a wolf that was many times his senior. Speaking to him like some sort of misbehaving child, and then threatening his life. Why would Gotham even want to be in a pack like that? He was better than this, surely. For once, though, she held her tongue. There were few wolves she enjoyed holding conversations with, and he was a sennyo to boot, which just added to the peculiarity of his draw to her. Her venom whip of a tongue was ill placed earlier, but better than having to clean charred blood out of her pelt later.
Gotham's calm, collective response was a little surprising. He would be a servant to this lupus? The one who would no sooner bite off his head than to heed his wisdom? She snorted quietly to herself, at least Rhia appreciated Gypsy's want to wander. No wonder the old mafia up and dissipated over night.
Now the female found herself outnumbered by Mafia members. Gotham had no loyalty to her, or at least that is what she assumed. Yes she knew she had a certain power over most males, Gotham was one of those that she liked being around without ulterior motives. However her thoughts were not necessarily his, now were they? And here enters Gypsy's aversion to trusting or getting close to anyone....

Scorch narrowed his eyes, the dark sennyo could be telling the truth, but if he was a spy by trade then he could just as easily be lying through his little maw. The fire lupus’ blue eyes flashed in serious consideration, what Gotham had said was logical and certainly plausible, but would the Don accept it? Prone to being quick and ill tempered it would not be entirely unpleasant for Scorch to disband this wolf from the mafia, however it was much better to have spies under his paw then on his back.
At least this sennyo was reasonable, many points of favor for him as it were, the female had rubbed his fur entirely the wrong way and left him much pricklier than usual. Fact was he would much rather have the old mafia members join him then be forced to send them out to other packs, but his pride had been attacked when no wolf had shown up to his call and this incited him to rash words. He relaxed ever so slightly, a single crease left in his brow as he relinquished the snarl that threatened to ensue. “Very well, a reasonable answer merits contemplation. You are still welcome among the Mafia, though I would care to hear what you have uncovered during your travels at a later date.” He threw the female a wicked glare, enervated now that he could not interrogate Gotham in her presence to learn what he might have uncovered. The fellow appeared to be rather well suited for the position of spy and it behooved Scorch to find out just how good he was.
Scorch mused over the female sennyo’s presence, no one ever entered the jungle without a good reason or motivation and it plucked at the strings of Scorch’s curiosity. Teeth gritted together he flicked his tail in annoyance, though the more volatile situation seemed to have abated a certain tension remained. Turning his blue green gaze on her he drawled out slowly, “So it seems you two know of each other, travel acquaintances?” A mild sarcastic drip flowed through his words, it did not bide well by him that this female knew his pack member, such females could not be trusted and he had had more than his fair share of experiences with them over his own travels.
In fact, they could be efficient spies, gathering information from suppliers that were entirely unaware that they were divulging important clues about their pack to enemy forces. Claws digging into the ground he now mused over this new problem, this female sennyo could not be trusted and if they were acquaintances the chances were that they would cross paths again and who knew what might transpire behind his back and past his watchful gaze.
This all resulted in his own family being put in danger, and as a rather protective male it put a large bur in his side and trepidation in his soul. He needed to establish what their relation was and what the female’s intent might be. Languid voice flowed through the air, a calm current with dangerous depths, “Perhaps it is I that is interrupting, though why a wolf from another pack might seek out one of my own is an interesting matter. I hope you’re not planning on leaving too soon, I would hate to impose.” Once again suspicion filtered into his thoughts and Scorch bristled his fur ever so slightly, he did not like the whole affair but he would not leave until the matter was attended to with due diligence.
