She had not had the pleasure and she used the word loosely of running into Crow anymore. Or picking up on any sightings of this Mari character either. She supposed when it came right down to it, both of those things were good, she had Bri all to herself, and had even managed to avoid getting wet, beyond that one time with Crow. So far, this adventure between the two of them was turning out to be really fun. Each day they got up, went exploring with Bri showing her all the areas around, and of course her hanging on, or climbing up on top of him, riding, he even caught her food. True to his word he was her knight. She would be lying to say she didn’t miss Coneiron, but she was still planning her vengeance upon going home.
Now as the sun set and gave way to night, Kaly had chosen a lovely little inset to act as her temporary home, she had brought her food there, slept there, and she knew Bri was rarely far away from wherever she chose to sleep. The little sunrise/sunset colored female was delightfully puffed out and dry, and curled up in a small ball within the inset. It’s rocky walls and cliffs managed to buffet a lot of the wind away from her but she was still cold. It did not have the furs her own den at home had, and she longed for their warmth. Even with the sun heated sand, the warmth only lasted so long, and she curled her tail around her as best she could as she drifted off to sleep. The day had been a lazy one but the stress of being away from home and exploring each day made it easy to fall into the arms of slumber at night.
It would not be long into her slumber when the nightmares began. Usually, within her own den she could simply wake up, scream, screech, and huddle herself back under the furs and go back to sleep. But tonight would be different, it would seem no matter how many times she re-lived the trauma of losing her parents she simply could not wake up. Her legs twitched in motion as she ran within her dreams, trying to intercede the scenes before her as though she could change them in real time. Her eyes were twitching behind her lids and her ears were flat against her small skull. Her muzzle was turned in a grimace, a silent scream of help perhaps as small noises kept coming from her maw.
The sand shifted around her, sharp claws extended against some invisible prey or enemy. Even in her sleep she looked ready to claw the eyes out of someone or something. But within her mind she saw her mother die, carried away by the forces of nature, and then not even a blink later seeing her father throw himself into the water, the rocks below smashing his head against the rocks and killing him. In the dream she cried, she screamed, she tried to save him but every time she was just too slow, too stupid, not strong enough, and wrapped within her own grief, too much so to see her father would never live without her mother…
The word was whispered over and over unconscious to the wolf sleeping…”Alone…..Alone…Alone…” What Kaly believed during the waking hours was now haunting her dreams. She believed she was alone in life and so she was alone in her dreams. The idea of forever being alone stayed with her even as she was helpless in the clutches of sleep…yet one name also escaped her teeth grinded maw, “Bri….Bri….Alone…” The sequences may not have sounded exactly right but even though Kaly was hardened and seemingly tough on the outside, Bri had managed to see a semi softer side, and with him around she felt her loneliness and the feeling of being helplessly alone, receded.….. |

Brightness couldn't remember a time when he'd had more fun than he'd had in the last couple of days. Exploring with Kaly had been great fun, though he felt guilty seeing as the Lyxxus didn't seem to like water in the least. In fact she had a terrible phobia of is, Bri noticed. But he would bring of leaving the cove in the morning.
He hadn't seen hide nor hair of Crow sense the first day and figured he run off with his Cael friends. While he liked seeing Crow he noticed he didn't particularly mind not seeing the Yagi. The conversation about love and mates they'd had kept nagging at the back of Brightness' mind. The young wolf realized that he had never loved anyone. Not his whole entire life. Not his mother, or brother. Not his pack, old or new. He didn't even love Crow like a friend. He never regretted being alone. He had never felt lonely, alone yes, but never lonely.
Brightness had never needed anyone. Okay, he had needed someone when he was younger, he had wanted love and attention, something the Mafia couldn't give. Something his mother couldn't give. How could she love a bastard, mutt son? Brightness wasn't even sure if his mother loved Nightmare, for all that she did favor him. But how was Bri suppose to know what love was if he had never experienced it. He was sure he knew what it looked like. He seen it a couple of times with the Children, Reynard and his queen being a prime example. And Crow seemed particularly smitten, but what did it feel like?
The sun had set while Brightness was out trying to fish. He wasn't very good at it and it took a long time to even get one fish, let alone enough to feed two. Truth be told, fish wasn't one of Bri's favorite foods, but he had noticed that Kaly had liked them. So now, slightly damp and chilled by the night air, the large golden brown wolf hauled his catch to their make shift dens. Bri wondered if Kaly was already asleep, he had been out for quite a while. If she was then at least they wouldn't have to look for food in the morning.
Upon reaching the makeshift dens, Brightness her strange whimpers. Worried he quickened his pace, what if Kaly was in danger? It was hard to imagine Kaly letting herself fall into danger, or whimper about it for that matter, but the bulky hybrid couldn't help but worry. What would he do if something had happened to Kaly?
There, curled up and shivering, was Kaly moaning in her sleep. Obviously she was having a nightmare. Bri often had those and recognized the signs. He placed their breakfast off to the side and shook himself dry. Carefully, instead of making his way to his own den, he curled himself around the smaller wolf. Gently he covered her with one of his large wings protectively.
"Shh, it's okay, I'm here," he whispered in his low gravel voice.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,502,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i369/mo_avalon/WonderWhy/kalybg.png] It was cold to the small lyxxus, she was drowning within her own mind, and no matter how tightly she squeezed her eyes shut, or tried to wake herself she could not. All she could see beyond her closed lids was a wall of water coming right at her. No matter how dangerous it was she could not get her legs to move her fast enough, she could try to run but the water would lap at her heels near constantly, and even when she looked behind her tragedy was all she saw. The water logged, soaked, or decaying bodies of her parents, the sight only furthered her on in trying to run from her dream, nightmare rather. She was howling in her dream, howling for help, but the sound that came out of her real mouth was nothing above a tight voiced whimper.
Her legs scratched the sand below her, as though she could dig in for purchase in real life, and then move faster in the dream world. Her eyes were rolled back into her head, and her tongue might have been out if she did not have her teeth so solidly clanked together. She hadn’t had nightmares for a few months now and she was determined that joining the Children had stopped that, she may not have liked all the members or been on good terms with them all but having a new home and a den to call her own had eased a little of her pain. Having to hunt for the pack and herself had also kept her busy but on this little excursion there was less to do, and even less to keep her mind from wandering into the dark places of this dreamland.
It was just then that a scent entered her nose in the real world, the scent of Bri, her friend, the male who had cared for her, and about her. He had fed her and offered to protect her, the smell of him enveloped her brain and suddenly the nightmare stopped and her body seemed to be less full of tension. Her mouth even loosened up and her side rose and fell with the effort of inhaling his scent. The images behind her eyes seemed to fade into blackness, and then there was nothing. The water receded and her mind seemed to become fuzzy with a feeling of contentment. Not only was it his smell that enveloped her, but it was his warmth sitting right next to her that helped as well. She remained curled up and even when he covered her with his wings she did not wake up.
Her fur was puffed out in every direction, as though she had been literally scared to the point of puffing out in defense, but now the dream changed. She was riding on Bri’s back and they were in a nice dry field, the wind whipped around them, blowing up their fur and even ruffling the feathers on Bri’s wings. She was smiling for one of the first times, just her and Bri, against the world, exploring the edges of this field and the reaches beyond. A slow deep breathe was taken in, and her eyes fluttered slightly, finally feeling comforted enough to apparently wake up. What she saw when she woke up cause her to stand up with a start.
Her muscles screamed in protest and her mouth went dry, Bri’s wing smacked her in the head, and she immediately dipped down and scooted out from under him with her rear end in the air. She sniffed and snorted slightly as she looked around. “What happened? You know you could have crushed me!” She squeaked instead of her usual screeching voice as she stood up completely, wincing at how tight and seemingly locked her muscles were from the dream she had been having. She smelled fresh food but right now her eyes were all for Bri. They didn’t usually sleep in the same quarters, so there had to be a reason for him being here, beyond bringing her something to eat. Having been asleep and not awake and in control she was frightened and alert now.. |

Brightness fell asleep curled around Kaly, the warmth seeping in and lulling him to dream land. Bri dreamed he was back in the jungle, in the cave where he and Moonrose had met Ebony. Only this time it wasn't Moonrose with him, it was Kaly. The black hybrid leaped in panther form and raked her claws down Kaly's face. Rage and horror filled him, he lashed out, ripping the hybrid's throat out. This time he didn't save her. This time he felt no remorse, he felt no shame, only sick satisfaction.
Bri woke with a start, Kaly bumping into his wings and squeaking at him. Groggy, blood rushing from his dream he quickly retracted his wings, body instinctively reverting to his posture from only a year ago. Head down, blood pumping through his down turned ears, heart racing. The emotions from his dreams scared him. Made him remember where he came from, what he was born from.
"I-I... You were having a nightmare," he stammered, trying to focus on the present and not the past," And it was cold. I was just-" Brightness trailed off. The large male hadn't expected this reaction. Then again this was Kaly, she was unpredictable. But the last couple of days had been pleasant. Any fighting was only for show, witty banter between the two. Now both youths seemed on edge making Brightness feel as if he had done something wrong. He wasn't sure what it was though.
"I-I caught breakfast," he changed the topic," If you want it, that is." He kept his head low and shoulders hunched. Bright blue eyes couldn't meet Kaly's dark ones. The fear of her seeing what he had dreamed kept them turned down.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,502,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i369/mo_avalon/WonderWhy/kalybg.png] Kaly was so uncomfortable right now she didn’t know what to do other than to lash out completely. She felt so stupid, so weak, and so vulnerable, and of course the person who had to see this part of her was Bri. Of all people, one of the few people who she cared about what they thought why did it have to be Bri. The sunrise little female hissed and clawed the sand beneath her. She sputtered for words, but she didn’t even know what she was feeling inside when it came to Bri. She had found a friend in Coneiron, and even though he was a water lupus, one of her least favorite kind of people, the fact that he was an older wolf, and a warrior at that, she knew she had some things in common with him. It was almost as though he was a father. She had not gone looking for parental substitutes, but he had found her, and was even nice to her. But Bri, Bri was different.
She didn’t feel like he was a brother, or a sibling of any kind. He was there to protect her, carry her, feed her….a look of horror crossed her face for a moment. All the things she had said to the doofy Yagi were applying to her time with Bri. She tried to shut her mouth which had fallen open and only succeeded in shutting her eyes, her ears splayed back against her skull, almost mimicking Bri’s facial reaction. Why had she even opened up the topic with that stupid Yagi swimming wolf?! She simply could not get over her own dumb mistake, did she even know what love was from watching others, or was it a matter of having experienced it for Bri and knowing it subconsciously. Oh this was just too much for the little angry lyxxus.
She listened as he said she was having a nightmare and her eyes popped open, she had not had a nightmare in a while, or not that she would remember, it wasn’t like she shared a den with anyone but the occasional prey pelt, and the stars, and obviously they could not talk. But now here Bri was, a witness to her shame, and then he was saying he was cold…HE was cold, so HE came in here and cuddled……Her eyes lit up and she puffed out defensively. “So you were cold so you snuck in here and cuddled up to me without asking?!” She stared at him as though he were a stranger, but was happening to them? She never imagined Bri would come into her den to cuddle, she was struggling with herself and what exactly she was feeling.
Kaly thought feelings in general were for the weak. She had not dared to assume that she would be one of those pathetic saps, like Nocht and Moonrose, fawning all over each other for everyone to see. Acting so dippy and stupid, and here she was, running away with, traveling, and now CUDDLING with Bri on a beach cave, with the stars above them. The sad reality was enough to turn the poor lyxxus’ stomach into knots and cramps of pain. That could have been hunger though and so she took a few steps back and turned on her heel and said lowly, “I need some time to…erhm…think.” She snatched one of the fish, the smaller one, but still big enough to give her trouble and she trotted out of the cavern den.
She didn’t mean to leave Bri there with his own dreams, or nightmares but Kaly had never been an entirely comforting wolf, that was not how she had been raised. Her father had had a larger paw in her upbringing and she simply could not bring herself to be ‘feminine’. But Bri seemed to like her even if she wasn’t a damsel in distress. She pounded her paws into the sand as she reached a part of the cliffs she thought she could climb, at least to a higher place where she could attempt to eat and think in peace. Why did Bri even tolerate her, she knew she treated him maybe a smidgen better than anyone else, but why was that? He was a prisoner to her pack, and even though she felt like a prisoner she had specifically chosen him to befriend…or berate…what if he…he felt the same way as she? Oh how the hell did she even know she felt….In a fit of temper she slashed the fish open with her claws and began to tear at the delicate meat in an attempt to deal with this confusion. |

Brightness flinched, he hadn't thought that what he'd done would be perceived as cuddling. After all that had happened over the past week he didn't think sharing a den would be such a big deal. At least not a big enough deal for Kaly to run off. Bri wasn't even sure what was wrong. The little Lyxxus hadn't seemed mad at all. In fact she seemed more confused.
Bri heaved a heavy sigh and grabbed a fish, digging into it as his stomach commanded. Even though he had not meant to cuddle her, why was it such a big deal if he had? Hadn't Kaly ever slept next to someone? When it got cold what was wrong with sharing body heat. Brightness had never really gotten to sleep next to anyone, survival of the fittest started from the moment he was born. But was sure others slept close, at least he'd seen others sleeping close.
The golden hybrid downed two more fish before following after Kaly. He figured he might as well apologize for whatever he did wrong. Plus, being in the cave reminded him too much of his nightmare. He shuttered as he left the makeshift den, a chilly breeze had rolled in off the ocean. Bri tucked his wings in tight to use as a sort of blanket. "Kaly," he called out, not spotting her sunset red pelt anywhere," Look I'm sorry for, uh, cuddling. I didn't mean it like that I swear. I was just worried about you okay? Please forgive me."
Brightness listened to the words get carried away by the wind. He wondered if she would even hear him, but he didn't want to piss her off by intruding on her private time. He sat vigil next to the cave, waiting for Kaly's return. His heart was heavy, almost as if it was afraid that Kaly would reject him. Of all of his friends, Kaly was the only one he was afraid of parting with. Mostly because he was sure that if she left his side it could very well mean the end of their friendship. That thought hurt. He could live with never seeing Mari or Moonrose or even Crow again. But Kaly had crashed her way into his life, forced him to care about her. She was special, a wolf unlike any other. A shiver ran down the Bri's spine as he realize that Kaly had such power over him. More than his mother, more than his brother. They could only hurt him physical. What Kaly could do was much worse, she could destroy him. He was in love with her.
He jumped to his feet panicked. He was in love with her and she must have seen it before he had. That was what had her so strange. He was in love with her but she didn't love him back. Brightness' throat felt tight and his eyes stung. Now he was afraid of Kaly's return. Afraid, now that he knew, she would see how much she meant to him. She would see but be unable to return his feelings. So Brightness did the thing he was best at. He got up and ran. He didn't think, he didn't even try and consider what her reaction would be when she found him gone. He just up and bolted, like the sniveling coward he was.
ooc: Total change of pace I know. But I thought it would make things interesting. Plus Bri now knows why he cares so much now.
