His weakened and dying joints and tendons were starting to take their toll on his freedom; now he was able to walk only a short distance before they decided to give away. Ajax shook his disfigured head slowly, in his gaping hole his teeth shone with a malice. He had to rest. Sure he was... dead but his energy wasn't eternal; he had to rest his muscles just like those... living creatures. Soon his body began to shudder, he was on brink of having his limbs giving away under him so he dropped his hindquarters heavily onto the damp ground, squashing his tail into an awkward position but he felt nothing. All he felt was fear and anger.
Fear of himself and what he might do, and anger of his restrictions and of his brother. The image of Thanatos at their latest meeting came to his mind and a vicious hiss erupted from his thin throat. Thanatos! He did all this. Then suddenly a harsh laughter raked the air shrilly. He came here because of him. He had decided to join this pack because of him. Ajax knew this pack was way too... unhinged for Thanatos as far as he knew but this pack was also filled with violence so Ajax could pick some wolf to assist him. Another rough laughter escaped his throat painfully, oh, his blasted brother would be so sorry. Sorry that he killed his whole family, that he turned into a cursed beast. That he infected his own brother, giving him a living hell.
The mortui's flaming red eyes spotted a lone jackalope snuffling at a flower and, with a flash of claws, he slammed its body into the ground with a horrifying squelch as he shifted whole of his weight onto it. He eyed at it for while, allowing his insane brain to imagine that the squashed rabbit was his brother, with every bones of his broken and organs spilling out of his body into the large puddle of blood. The gore image satisfied him. Yes it will happen. It must.
Blinking back to reality and staring ahead of him and he cried out impatiently; "Anyone, come here! Now!" He had been sitting at one place for a while but it was that previous image of Thanatos squashed which had spurred Ajax into impatience. He knew a Mafia member would not be pleased with his command and might act viciously toward him. But they could not make him feel pain. They could kill him but for Ajax, death would be a godsend. Whatever the outcome might be he did not care.

Oh but the Don hated being called, really quite despised it and as it were he would have left other wolves to deal with it. Sadly he noted darkly that they were otherwise occupied with their own affairs leaving him to attend to the matter at hand. The pack had been receiving notable growth of late, though it seemed an overpopulation of mortui were coming to join the mafia's ranks. Scorch did not know what he thought of this, the undead certainly created an impressive looking front, but as for their real strength, well that was quite left to be seen. None the less the Don was incredibly proud to see his reign gaining power as more of the dastardly sought out refuge. At this rate it would become time to plot out ventures outside of pack lands and perhaps test the strength of their numbers. Scorch certainly fancied himself a war now and then...
But that was neither here nor there for at the moment he would need the bulk of his strength to simply resist biting this wolf's head off. Unimpressed with the decaying exterior Scorch certainly hoped the wolf had something of interest to bring other than a loud mouth. And so he sat in the shadows, ensuring that the mortui would be required to wait before being attended to by the Don. Time passed quickly for Scorch as his thoughts occupied any room for being bored that could result from a wait anyways. Finally he decided he had put off the deed long enough and he emerged from within the shadows he had been hiding to face the aggravating call. His ability to meld into the shadows was one of his favorite tools and served him well in the darkness of the jungle.
His stance was commanding and left no room for weakness or judgment, he was indisputably the head of the mafia and the wolf with the chosen power to save or end a life in his pack. Snarling viciously he demanded, "What wolf considers himself important enough to demand attention in my lands? Choose your answer well, there are worse things then dying in the jungle." Glaring at the disfigured wolf in front of him Scorch did not show any reaction the the putrefying parts on the infected lupus. Their symptoms did not classify them as any more important or unworthy in the Don's eye, as long as they could prove their worth as an individual their breed was of little consequence. He stood with his posture unweidling as he waited for a reply.

His blood red eyes kept darting at every directions, at every involuntary flick of a leaf, at a hasty flutter of a bird's wing and even at the slow crawl of a beetle. Come on, already! His lips had stretched to form a snarl and more impatient words started to form in his throat when a wolf approached him. And he did not look very jolly. There was a hint of a smirk on his remaining lips; this must be a boss of the pack and he must had heard his loud command. This wolf was a tad too close for his liking so the mortui shambled backward and with this he flinched a little. He had just revealed his first weakness; movement. Ajax couldn't move smoothly or quickly. He could not run or jump; all he could do was to lumber forward with an obvious limp. The way... well, a zombie wolf should move. Well, at least he feels no pain and is a strong fighter and for him, they make up for his lack of agility.
Ajax looked up from his skeletal toe back to the Mafia wolf almost challengingly and braced himself for a remark about his weakness. But the logic part of him told him to be sensible; challenging a pack boss wouldn't end well. He knew this wolf was observing him, judging whether he was good enough for his pack. Ajax couldn't blame him; he would do just the same but he hoped his decaying front wouldn't put him off. He flattened his ears against his skull, starting to feel a bit depressed. His affliction was beginning to bother him once again and he feverishly hoped that the wolf wouldn't think his... curse as a weakness. After all his appearance can be used as a weapon for this leader's benefit; his body usually induce fear from others. Ajax blinked and decided to look at the dark wolf in front of him properly and it caused his dying heart to sink even lower. He was alive when he was not.
This lupus was a handsome brute with his muscles and rich glare. His pelt was rich in the colour of dark, dark red, highlighting the deep blueness of his eyes with a some kind of hidden malice. Everything about him screamed power. Almost at once, Ajax fell for him. This lupus deserved respect and obedience from his wolves and the mortui knew he would give them to him. Then a thought came and his eyes lightened with a dark gleam. It would be so amusing to see what Thanatos has to say with this lupus at his brother's side.
Even the lupus' voice commanded power. From his words the white wolf guessed that the dark wolf hated his guts for demanding him. His lips twitched with a hint of a sad laughter; there was nothing that would be worse for him. Hell, there was nothing that would be bad for him apart from this curse. At once he stilled his twitching lips and bowed his head; "Apologies, sir, I was just impatient." He lifted his chin up again and looked at the leader but not meeting his eyes. He was afraid the eye contact might be considered as another challenge. "I'm Ajax and I'm seeking to join your pack. The Mafia if I'm correct." He didn't ask for this lupus' name as he did not want to come off as demanding again.

Scorch continue to watch silently as the mortui squirmed away, eyes unblinking as he assessed the wolf. True, it might seem a tad bit harsh, maybe even haughty, but this was the Mafia and Scorch would not have any other then the best of black hearted wolves join. He now considered the Mafia a league of its own, separate from the functioning of other packs in that together they were a merry bunch, loyalty to the pack and themselves alone but defiant to the ways of protecting the weak and harboring the useless. Their plans and futures were linked to continuous growth in numbers, but not strength in numbers as opposed to strength in individuals. With pups to protect Scorch was now ever more vigilant then usual, nerves always vibrating with a desire to persevere and command.
Content with the submissive posture Scorch relented his domineering one, this wolf was here to join and future prospector were always welcome, as long as they brought something to contribute to the Don's collection. And so the Don sat, posture still strong but relaxed enough to avoid dominating the mortui. The Don did not have interest in dominating his pack members, he wanted respect and unity among them, if they obeyed it was not because he had scared them into submission, though he used this tactic with anyone not in the pack, but because they wanted to.
"Very well then, apology accepted." And with a voice that had lost some of its harshness he simply dismissed the affair. "Good day Ajax, you need not revert to formalities if you seek to join, simply Scorch will do. You have indeed reached the pack lands of the mafia, home to the blackest souls ever to have touched the soul of the earth. We pride ourselves on being the strongest bunch of miscreants ever to have plague the territories." Scorch looked over the Mortui, they were not his favorite breed, but he was growing warmer towards them now that he had finally made it past seeing their exterior, that so resembled his own disturbed specter, to determining their worth and place in the mafia. In fact, if he were correct there were now 3 of this species of wolves in his pack and he supposed the mafia was a fitting place for them, it accepted anyone as long as their worth could be proved.
"What do you have to bring to this pack? We value strength, intelligence and a thirst for power here, anything less simply will not due, you understand we have a reputation to uphold." He gave a small encouraging smile, white fangs flashing against his dark pelt. A true charmer at heart Scorch was not above being pleasant with future members and enjoyed getting to know each wolf in the pack on an individual basis. It allowed him to be fully knowledgeable of their assets, build rapport and establish a connection. How else could he possibly keep track of whom was supposed to be in his lands or not?
An idea struck him, a test that would prove the wolf's strength and thirst for power that brought a glint to his eyes and turned his smile into a sly grin. "You may or may not know that the mafia never allows entrance without a test of sorts to truly prove the member's worth." He paused for effect and the allow the bloke to digest his words. "I am holding a All Hallows Eve festival, merrymaking of the most illicit proportions with plenty of misconduct to last, you are of course invited should I allow you entrance in to the mafia. I can give you a higher rank....if you agree to spar with a wolf during the event. Holding back will not be permitted, but death is not a necessity, I like my pack left alive, or undead. If I see what I like the position will be yours, if not you simply will remain where I deem fit to place you today." His eyes bore into the wolf, testing Ajax to see if he was game for the event and worthy of entrance into the mafia.

It was as if the jungle itself, not the pack, which seep evil and malice. The every part of his body started to alert him of the hidden dangers as soon as he stepped into this humid world but it also gave him the thrill of pleasure. This colourful world hid a dark hell for most wolves but not for him. That idea sent another tingle up his body; Ajax was meant to be a part of this world and whole of his body knew. And it was responding to the sinister side of the nature... Would his body respond just the same way if he wasn’t cursed? He didn’t think so; he knew he was considerably nastier than he was when he was alive... Thanatos’ infection must have not only influenced his appearance, so who exactly was he? He knew his personality had changed beyond recognition, and he couldn’t even recognise himself. He knew he was... Sadistic? Liar? Betrayer? Or frightened? The younger version of him suddenly came to his mind, strutting with pride and respect he had earned from others. The pain of loss and grief stabbed him in the chest; it was as if the young Ajax had died a long time ago. Ha, well, in a way, he had. With that twisted humour, he shifted his body slightly but still in submissive position and his ribs glinted sickly under the reducing light.
But he raised his mutilated head upwards to the lupus with a frown crossed his face lightly in confusion, leaving his obedient pose. He noticed that this leader was starting to relax after dismissing the silly matter. Ajax also noticed that neither anger nor disapproval was tainting his speech. Even without those things Scorch was still demanding respect and obedience silently, through his powerful appearance and a strong impression about him. Ajax had met and talked to him for only literally a minute but he was constantly finding new things that he liked about this lupus leader, and the most recent was Scorch’s honesty. It was as if the Mafia, with Scorch at the front, was flaunting their dark nature with an immense pride through specific words used. "Blackest souls ever to have touched the soul of the earth." "Miscreants." "Plague." The truth rang behind each words spoken. Ajax supposed that this speech was a kind of a warning; weak but golden hearted wolves would tremble and turn to flee. The mortui raised his head, straightened his spine and puffed his chest out with pride. He hadn’t fled so this must be meant to be. In fact, the dark wolf’s words had tempted Ajax even more, if that was possible.
His red eyes flashed with excitement at the second speech. Prove himself? He certainly had a lot to prove himself for. For ages, the mortui had this compulsive need to prove himself so this invitation was very welcoming. Very fitting in some way for him. The desire that had been contained for years, possibly decades, burst out of him in a wide creepy grin which faltered when he saw Scorch's own greeting smile twisted into something more sly. Was he taking this only chance away? No, wait. The lupus wasn't taking the chance away; he was still giving him a chance but with better offers. High rank? Ajax's eyes widened in surprise. Now, this wasn't what he had been expecting... Was this a trick? Would this lupus actually give a high rank to a stranger? But then he wasn't actually giving it away. Ajax would have to fight for it. It was fair, if you think about it properly. Licking his lips and over his gaping hole in his face, Ajax spoke slowly; "I'm game..." Then he saw the squished bunny and, with a small but stiff flick of his paw, it slid towards Scorch. He glanced up from the poor animal and the red eyes of the mortui met the blue eyes of the lupus with another malicious smile; "And you will not regret it."
