Once again the white fur ball had given his baby sitter the slip. it wasn't really that hard with six siblings all pinning for the attentions of the adults. Olyvar had his own way of seeking attention. He was in a hurry to grow up, however he did enjoy his personal play time. The moon was bright tonight, it was still early evening, but the moon had risen quickly all the same. His breath frosted the air as his moss green eyes shone brightly with the excitement of sneaking out.
His adult fur was starting to grow in more, just enough to give him the insulation he needed to wander about on the cold autumn nights around the Taiga. His goal tonight was making it to the lake and back with out getting caught. He slipped through the cool grass, though when he wasn't in long grass, his white pelt stuck out like a sore thumb. He may have thought he was being sneaky, but his gangly legs made him a little clumsy and not really all that quiet.
In the back of his mind he thought of the time that Ahote and he had fought the badger. He felt that he might not have a chance against another angry weasel, so he at least had the scent stored away for 'things to avoid'. His nose had learned a few more scents in the past couple weeks, he absorbed them like a sponge. His curiosity and tenacity was enough to keep him going even though the chill of the night was starting to bite.
He found a game trail that lead to the lake. Awesome! That would be good to follow, right? His green tipped ears flickered and swiveled at every little sound he heard. He lopped down the game trail, enjoying his night alone. He came upon a cluster of rocks that stopped just shy of the water's edge. He sniffed around them, trying to find new scents. With no fresh scents to identify he pouted. No fun.....
Then he got an idea...yeah, he would pretend he was patrolling the lake! With a confident smirk he turned and lifted a leg to mark his territory. He then scuffed the dirt to further claim the cluster of rocks as his own. He then clamored atop the rocks and barked triumphantly, "Yeah! My territory! My rocks." He proceed to strut around a top the cold, silent stones.

Soon she knew her brothers at least would be out of the female tree and sleeping with the males in their separate tree, probably sharing secrets about fighting, or burping, or some other crazy male invented thing. But for now at least the little independent female was hunting something of her own, her half sibling Olyvar. In their short time together on this planet and in this pack, She, Eo, and Olyvar seemed the most alike. However, Eo and Luparia seemed a little more reserved than Olyvar who seemed to hold onto his father and Ahote’s word as though it made the sun rise and fall.
Luparia had her nose to the ground as soon as her half brother had scooted off on his own. Like he was and had been doing she had also been giving her sitter the slip here and there simply because she didn’t feel like she needed one. She was faster than her Yagi “adopted siblings” and she was even leaner and taller than her lupus half blooded siblings. She could handle her own, and if she couldn’t, well that’s what males were for, and she was not against using manipulation to get her way or win a fight. There was no fairness when it came to the way Luparia thought. She hid behind the sparse trees there were by the lake watching the white pelt of Olyvar scooch here and there, and finally laid claim to the pile of rocks that he had found.
She snorted slightly, and trotted out from behind the trees, masking her snorting with a delicate, but proud sniff here and there. While he had been trying to be stealthy, Luparia had no such delusions. They were related, and he would know her scent, a sneak attack simply wasn’t going to happen. “Sneaking around I see…not that it’s very hard with our mother and sitters…” Her voice was devoid of emotions, as though the little pup had been frozen and excluded from the normal emotions of a pup, as though she might be truly cold. It wasn’t true, but emotions scared Luparia and they took away her control, which even for her as a pup was a scary thing.
She sat back, a few feet from the rocks, not wishing to tread on his claimed territory but demanding his attention all the same. Ah yes, they were slightly similar, similar enough that Luparia had sought him out while she wouldn’t have gave others the time of day. She tried to put a slightly friendly smile on her muzzle as she looked up at him. Now Olyvar seemed to live on his pride just as much as she did, and so she smiled and said lowly, “Nice pile of rocks you have claimed there, but what about the water, and those trees? Whose are those?” A devious look on her face appeared as she began to trot over, to let him seemingly believe she would be the one to claim them….[/scrolly]

His green tipped ears flickered as he heard another approach. Did one of the sitters figure him out? He put a pouty scowl on his face and turned to see. His moss green eyes lit up as he saw his sister coming his way. He gave a confident smirk and looked down at her. He was jealous that she had horns and he didn't....also she was bigger than he was. It wounded his pride to be smaller than his sister, but he was not about to let it show. He was not aware quite yet that they did not share a father. All he knew was they came out the same mum and fought for the same teats growing up.
"Mom's distracted easily....and the sitters can never pay attention to all of us at once. It's easy. Not my fault the others fawn for their attentions all the time." He snorted a little and sat on his rocks, pondering attacking his sister to play. However she started moving to other parts of the area as if she was going to claim it. Her cheek was not missed. He leaped down as she went to the water's edge. His lanky body quickly moved in front of her as he gave a mock growl, "I was gettin' to it. Can't pee in the water though....we drink out of there."
He looked up at his sister, his eyes daring her to challenge his claim. However there was hardly any real threat behind it, his eyes twitched again as he heard a fish splash out in the lake. He turned to look at it, tail wavering in curiosity. All he could see were the ripples on the black glassy surface. He turned back toward his sister. "So I guess you snuck out too huh?" He glanced up at the night sky. Enjoying the freedom of having personal space.

She really didn’t like anyone, but those she did seemed to be either impervious to her insults, or could fire them off just as much as she could. She had stayed there for a long moment looking at the pup in front of her. Their coloring was different, but not so much that they couldn’t be related, but she did indeed have things he did not, a taller, bigger physique and of course her horns, which seemed to be growing more and more as she looked at them in the water, one of her favorite past times with herself. But she, like Olyvar had nothing to base not being related on. To her, it was not abnormal that three puppies looked different than four puppies. After all, even Ahote’s pups all looked different.
His first statement seemed to make so much sense to Luparia, it was true, Avalon had too many pups to look after, and even with the other females in the Home Tree, with ten pups floating around there were high chances at least one or two would be able to escape to explore on their own. Luparia had already had her own run in with intruders and other pups and wolves, both were a disappointment and annoyance as far as she was concerned. She nodded in agreement, “That’s true, I would rather be out here, seeing what is going on then back there fighting for somewhere to sleep. I’ve even found my own private den..” She spoke the last with a hint of pride, she could see they were both very independent pups, wolves rather. When she moved toward the water and gave her a mock growl, her eyebrows raised and she let loose a playful snarl, wagging her tail.
Olyvar would probably be the only one who would see her play, beyond Eo, she just never wanted to let loose around anyone who didn’t share her views on things. She was a close-minded individual, and she held those beliefs as they formed in her ever growing mind closer and closer. “That is true, but you, rather we could claim the whole area around the water!” Oh yes, she was not above letting Olyvar think he could claim it all, but he was only so big, and she was here and available to help. They looked like two little Czars, planning the takeover of the lake. Her head snapped to the water as she heard a splash, and even walked forward so much as to touch her small front paws into the water, in a way challenging him to come closer to the water. With a cheeky smile, and a slight snort, which turned into a delicate sniff she nodded.
“I get so tired of being around everyone, they’re always so loud, and screeching, barking, and always fighting with each other for Mom’s attention..” The word mom was bit off as though it were something bitter, and she dare not mention Pyke, or their father. She never saw him as her father, he was hardly around, and when he was, she and her siblings were the last on his list to be loving to..it was almost as if Luparia was an orphan with parents..She looked back over her shoulder at him….”It’s more fun and exciting out here then it is in the tree, and I don’t need a sitter to bring me here. I am fine all by myself…” The unsaid portion was that she had followed him, and was actually happy he was here…but instead of that she pretended to fall, and halfway threw her paw into the water and swiped a small wave into his general direction, getting him slightly wet, even if he didn’t want to be…A devious snicker ensued. His pride did swell a little when she answered his challenge, yet that fish seemed to pull all that away. His mom loved water, his father hated it.....he was not sure his opinion of it quite yet. Luparia walked over to place a paw in the water, his little tail wavered deviously, it would be so easy to push her in!
He perked a little when she said she found a den, " Oh yeah? I found one too, still in the tree, but it's only big enough for me." He had just kind of stumbled upon a hole near his father's den that he decided to take as his own. He would still sleep with his dad a lot, but she didn't need to know that. He had a hidey hole all his own, that even had a small curtain of tree roots shielding it's entrance. Privacy. Something these pups treasured.
His mossy eyes looked out over the large lake. They COULD claim all the area around the lake, he wasn't dumb though, "That would take forever! But we could do it.....I think....well" He sat to ponder this predicament. Odds are they would be missed before they could finish marking the lake...and if not they would get hungry before and have to go get food. When he was bigger...when they were bigger, they could probably pull it off. He nodded in affirmation.
Before he could open his little mouth again and state his long term plan, she changed the subject again. Loud and pushy. Yeah, that about summed up the gaggle of siblings they had. He didn't really like their mother that much, too absent minded. I mean he had to love her, that was the law right? And he idolized his father, and had gone through pains to be around him as much as he was. Ahote was also a figure of awesome in the little pups mind. He wanted to be just like them.
He decided that this would be the time to shove his sister into the lake. However, she seemed to be doing it herself. He paused in surprise as she seemed to fall in. She caught herself, he moved to 'help' but was met with a wave of cold, wet water. He yelped in protest, "Hey!" But t no avail, he was dripping, his chaotic fur even more mussed with all the rivulets. "Grr! Ima get you!" He charged at his sister, growling playfully and aiming to shove her into the water. He leaped to tackle her, not taking into consideration that he would probably fall in along with her.

Had she truly put any thought into it she would have frowned almost immediately, but she was not so sure it would stop her from continuing to enjoy Olyvar’s company by a black lake, under a sky of stars. She knew even though she and Olyvar were different there was no true animosity between them, how could there be? She and Adraxxia however were another story, she couldn’t stand the friendly, wimpy female, whom her mother had had to feed to keep alive. Oh she had been told to treat them like siblings, but the truth was they just weren’t, and nothing she was told could change the stubborn pig-headed little female’s mind.
“It’s good we already claimed dens in the trees, that way no one can bother us. It’s good to have quiet…” She said the statement lowly, knowing Olyvar knew what she meant, it would seem, even though they were half siblings they thought a lot more alike than many of the others. Independence, freedom, and quiet were very important, almost the opposite for any normal pup. But who said anything about being normal anyway? She shrugged looking around the large lake, “You’re right…it might take forever….and we don’t have forever, not right now. We could just run around and take over the really neat places, claim them as ours so we have the best spots near the lake…” Oh yes, she was even practical during her pup years. She knew the likelihood of marking the whole lake would take forever, especially with them being so small.
Unlike Olyvar, Luparia hadn’t found anyone to idolize yet, and in that respect it was both lucky and unlucky for her. In a way it would give her no one to model herself after, sending her into a potential identity crisis, but on the other hand she would have no one to compare herself to either. It could technically go either way for her, and as she would grow she would face a whole different lot of challenges in comparison to Olyvar who was lucky enough to have two strong male role models…and well Avalon. She sniffed slightly in distaste as she turned to look at her brother. When he splash of water got him, and made him look even funnier she couldn’t help but laugh….
The amusement however was rather short lived, when he charged she tried to scamper away, but was not in any shape to realize the water would slow down the movement of her paws. When his body collided with hers no matter how to tried to wriggle and crawl away they both went tumbling into the water, and out into the slightly deeper end. When she surfaced, her pelt was splotchy and clinging to her, almost making her look like a drowned rodent. She padded around yipping at Olyvar, “I’m going to get you for this! I splashed you! You tried to drown me!” Her voice lacked real threat, but her eyes were glimmering with playful vengeance as she paddled closer to him, attempting to get him and nip his ears and shoulders in retaliation![/scrolly]

The water was over his head before he realized his mistake. He opened his eyes in the water, but saw only darkness and bubbles that blurred his vision. He figured his sister had surfaced already, he could hear the garbled words of her yelling at him. He struggled against the lake weeds and mud, trying to find surface to stand on and push himself up.
Finally he broke free and got up to the surface sputtering and coughing. His ears cleared of water just in time to hear his sister threaten him. His mossy eyes narrowed, but as he say her advance, he couldn't help up laugh a little. She looked like a drowned rat as well. She even had some water weeds stuck on the little numbs of horns she had.
"I wasn't drowning you, just pushing to get you wet too." He turned quickly and swam for the shore to avoid her reprimanding nips. He laughed as she chased him, knowing she wouldn't hurt him to bad at least. He finally found the foot holds he wanted and pulled himself out of the water.
He felt a blast of cold air hit him and he shuddered, "Ah! It's freezing out here!" He shook his body violently, trying to get as much water off him as he could before another breeze could cut through them. Maybe midnight swimming in the Taiga at this time of year was a bad idea. He felt something clinging to his leg and turned around to see that a water grass blade had wrapped itself around him. It almost matched the swirling markings he had on his body already. He paused to consider it.
His deep thought didn't last long, he turned and nipped at the vine, pulling it off before turning around to face his sibling's wrath with an innocent smirk on his sodden maw.

One of the bad things about a lake were that there may not have been waves or currents to pull you out, but there were just as many dangers. Grasses and other such underwater dangerous could easily drown a medium sized wolf, let alone a pup. She had very little to worry about considering Olyvar surfaced not even a full minute after she did. Realizing her berating him had probably been useless since he had been underwater and unable to hear her she huffed for a long moment. It was not until she saw his eyes glance up to the top of her head that she realized she had some kind of green…grass attached to her head. “Oh…this is just……ugh…” She groaned and swung her head from side to side, trying to remove the stupid things from her nub like horns.
It was useless however, and she knew once she reached land she would have to find a tree to grind the stupid grasses off her head, in addition to shaking off and attempting to dry. The water however, was not warm, and her body quickly told her it was time to get out, the winds that were blowing were only succeeding in making her colder. When she heard him respond she snorted slightly, wrinkling up her nose as she paddled to shore, “Oh I think you accomplished that!” When there was finally land underneath her feet she had to struggle to pull herself up, the water clinging to her pelt made things even more difficult. “Gah……stupid water!” A blast of wind hit her just as she was shaking, and it was now not only shaking to get dry that caused her to tremble. The grasses had been shaken clean of her head so at least she could spare herself that humiliation. When she looked at him however, with the grass attached she laughed outright, “You look like something from the swamp!”
“Freezing is an understatement!” She began to almost weedle forward, oh she would wipe that smirk on his soggy face if it killed her. Which running around in the Taiga in the middle of winter might just do. She rose up from her crouch and with a shriek of triumphant she tackled him and rolled with him into the higher grass. It provided a slight protection from the wind, but she was hell bent on revenge. Her bigger size, and longer body helped her to push him on his back, but then she got on her own feet and scrambled around, nipping at his nail, and haunches. Her nips wouldn’t maim him, but with all puppy teeth here and there it would feel like needle pricks. Growling almost playfully she stood and shook herself right near him, letting the resound cascading water to fall all over him. With a devious superior smirk, she began to trot back in the direction of the home tree, believing she had won. [/scrolly]

He didn't have much time to react before her wrath was upon him. He tried to dodge out of the way, but the larger pup matched this distance and sent him sprawling to the ground. All he managed was an "Umph! before struggling to get up. She was still soggy from the water, which made it hard for him to find purchase against her with out slipping off.
He yipped in defense as she nipped at his hind quarters and tail. He tried to scoot out of the way, laughing at her attempts to reprimand him. In all seriousness it just further egged him on. She finally stopped long enough to drench him with left over water. "Hey!" He shook off , trying to stave off the cold. he scowled a little as she trotted away all high and mighty.
He growled a little and ran after her, he would go for her ankles and rump just as she had did. As he got closer her lowered his lanky body as best he could, at the last second he had an idea. He pushed himself to run faster and skidded in behind her, shoving his head under her in an attempt to flip her over or at least knock her to her side. His tongue was lolling in the exertion, but he was determined to at least wrestle her to the ground.

Her patronage would allow her a tall, lean body with horns for offense and defensive moves. She had no idea that her mixed patronage would also afford her powers, she had hinted and guessed but she was still rather clueless. All she knew at this point was that she could overpower most of her other siblings. Although she preferred to not be wrestling around with any of them, for her, Olyvar was special, and because he was special he deserved to be near her when she wasn’t a complete, raging, spoiled bitch. His grunts and wriggles only further proceeded to push her on to getting at him. It had gone beyond revenge now, now they were full on puppy playing.
Even when he cried out in response to her soaking him with the extra water she was now content. She believed she had overpowered him and “punished” him enough for getting her completely soaked in the first place. Ah, the resilience of puppies. Here it was, the beginnings of winter, and they were two small pups running around soaking wet. Although they had both admitted it was cold, neither one of them wanted to give up apparently. Her tail and head held high she continued on her way back to the den, she had all intentions of grabbing some late night snack and holing herself up in her own chosen den. However, it would seem her brother had a different idea of what she should be doing.
All of a sudden she felt the weight of him pushing in between her legs, his sheer perseverance finally enabling himself to slide up under her, and sure enough when two of her legs lost their footing on the earth, she fell with a hard thump to the ground. Instead of trying to get up, she lay there, laughing out loud. The sound was foreign to her, but the look on his face and her eventual fall was just too much. The light, completely feminine laugh filled the air around them, and she looked at him with her eyes shining in the night. In that moment, she realized in her own weird way she loved Olyvar, and she could hardly say that about any of her own siblings. “Not that I’m giving up, but I believe we might just be equally matched!” She spoke, finally letting her laughter twinkle off into silence. Surprised by how well his attack worked, he got himself tangled in her legs and fell with her, adding to the resounding thump that announced the ground. He struggled to push up on top of her, having his upper body draped over hers, his hind quarters sitting on the ground. Her laughter made his eyes gleam with success and his green tipped tail wavered quickly back and forth.
His tongue was lolling and he was panting excitedly. Yep, this was the life playing and doing whatever they wanted. As much as he fought for attention at times, he was contented to just be around Luparia. He beamed when she announced a draw, "Yes, I think we are!" Truth be told he probably would have lost if it went on much longer. She was bigger and stronger than he was. But damned was he if he admitted it. He let the silence fill out around them, he was cold so he was not really planning on getting off his warm sister just yet.
However the night was getting late and he could not prevent a puppy yawn from emitting in the darkness. Too much excitement for one night, perhaps it was time to get to bed. He looked down at his sister with a sleepy smirk on his face. "I bet we can sneak back home without anyone noticing...." He did not want to admit that he was cold and tired, so he made it another challenge for them both to face. He eased up to a upright sitting position to allow his sister the chance to get out from under him.

The fact that Olyvar was on top of her half way and trying to wriggle out, while she in turn tried to wriggle was just causing them to be one tangled pile of differently colored fur. She was happy to see his tail wagging back and forth and the gleam in his eyes made her eyes sparkle defiantly in the night sky all around them. Her tongue fell out of her own mouth and she sighed as they lay there on top of each other. She didn’t really realize how much she had missed laying with another being, and the comfort of it and the warmth were both enjoyable. It was not likely she would ever admit to anyone else that they were equals, or equally matched but out here, just between the two of them she could admit it. Plus she didn’t want him to land on top of her again, even being bigger it would still take the breath of out of her.
When he yawned she could not help but follow suit. No matter how much she wanted to think she was an adult, they were both out way past their bed time, and their bodies needed the extra rest while they were growing and going through their spurts of growth. She would have actually been content to lay here with her brother in all the splendor of being outside, but a voice in her head said they would probably freeze to death out here. When he turned a sleepy smiling face to hers she leaned in to snuffle against his neck scruff lightly in response to his comment. “We might be able to, if you weren’t so brightly colored…” She snickered slightly and wriggled out from underneath him almost sadly. They had kept each other warm and been nice and cuddly, and though she would never say it aloud, she was enjoying the moment, completely.
She cast her eyes at him, and even wrinkled up her nose in challenge as she pushed her body low to the ground. Her legs spread out slightly, although because of her differing patronage, she would not be able to get as low as he could, but she was better suited to blend in than he was. She supposed when it came right down to it, they were different on the outside, but not so different on the inside. She took big steps, although they were surprisingly quiet for her being bigger, as she began to make her way back to their Home Tree. She hadn’t decided to tell him yet, but she intended to follow him to wherever he lay down and collapse as near to him as possible. Their encounter tonight had made her feel slightly vulnerable, and though she, like her would never admit it, all she wanted to do was cuddle up with him, dry out and sleep…”The faster we get home…the faster I can get dry….you just wait until it warms up, you’ll be fish food when I’m done with you..” Her lasting comment was whispered playfully back to him. He chuckled a little when she nuzzled his scruff, he gave a soft whine in response to the touch. It was comforting despite how old they pups thought they were. Pups needed socialization and contact. "I can hide in the grass better than you, so if I am low enough nothin' can see me " Not necessarily true, but he was unaware what vantage points the flying wolves could manage.
He followed suit in crouching low to the ground, well as low as his lanky legs could allow. His shoulders were below hers, so he did blend in a little better in the grass. Or maybe it was that she stuck out more than he did, so it balanced out. The stealth seemed almost comical, he over exaggerated his steps around twigs and leaves. Occasionally he popped his head up to scan for danger.
The closer they got to the female tree, the less it seemed needed for stealth. He needed to grasp the fact that the most stealth was needed around the dens, but the false sense of security was compounded by the drowsy little eyes that searched for adults. His plan was to drop off his sister then go to his own den, like males were supposed to do in the pack now. But the closer they came to the warm, inviting dens, the more he wanted to just curl up and go to bed.
He glanced at his sister, whispering "Where's your den?"

She had to compete with Liri for Eo’s attention, and Aroh had his own siblings he had to contend with, so the few people she had gotten close to would have to be at her disposal whenever she could track them down. His encouraging whine when she nuzzled him made her tail wag slowly back and forth. When he stated he could do better than her in the grass she sniffed lightly, “Olyvar, you look like a little moon trying to sneak through the grass, I followed you earlier by the fact that you are so bright…now me, I look like the grass..” Snickering she dipped down low again to prove her point, which would have been made if the grasses that were there weren’t browning from the lack of warmth weather to keep them flourishing.
She let him scope out for danger while she tried to keep herself low to the ground. This would be where he had the advantage, as she had grown, she had grown taller, and longer, more like her Yagi parent, while he had the advantage of remaining smaller and more compact like his own patronage. She truly had to concentrate to keep her limbs and body as close to the ground as possible, but she had to admit, while she may have had the right coloring she was just too tall to shirk around and truly hide. When they were close enough she simply stood up and walked to the tree which held her den, her muscles screamed and ached, cold from the water and cool air seeming to suck the warmth out of her, and then the added strain of trying to sneak around had just made her even more sore. She sneezed and tried to hide her head to muffle the sound as she looked at Olyvar.
When he asked her where her den was she smiled, more brightly, and largely than she had in a long time, he would come and cuddle and sleep with her! Nodding quietly, she gestured with her head for him to follow her. With being this close to the dens, words would more or less get them caught. She entered the tree, and began to slink once more, moreso along the walls and shadows until she reached the way to go up the tree. Looking back to make sure he was still there she slowly made her way up. When she finally came to where her den was she scampered into the rather large, space, as this den was made for an adult wolf, but since they had dens to spare Luparia had claimed it as her own, and had even dragged several furs from the prey pile up to make a soft place to lay with furs to keep her warm.
She scampered across to the furs and dove under one, flipping her nose under it and wriggling around until she was covered except for her face. She waited to see where he would lay but in a low voice, right after her big puppy yawn she said, “I had fun with you Olyvar….more fun than with anyone else…” Her eyes became drowsy and started to close as the night wore down on her and sent her into dreamland…[/scrolly]

Olyvar followed his sister sleepily, he had to make sure she got to her den safe right? He yawned. That's what the males were supposed to do in the pack. Keep the girls safe and escort them around. He also knew that boys were allowed to sleep in the girls tree, as long as it wasn't often. He was too young to understand what Ahote meant when he set that rule. Maybe he would stay the night, just this once. After all it was cold outside.
He watched with mossy green eyes as she buried into the pile of furs. Hmm. That was a good idea, he made a note to start doing that too. For the moment he has soft moss and dead leaves for his bedding, and some bits of shed fur from his father. Usually when he got cold in his cubbie hole though, he just went to sleep with Pyke.
His green tipped ears flickered as she told him that she had a good time with him. He smirked. Yeah, he was a pretty fun guy. And hanging out with him must be the coolest thing ever for everyone else. Though he was impressed with his sister's size and strength, he would not openly admit that he admired her. "I had fun too....we should do it more often...." He gave a sleepy puppy yawn and stumbled toward the pile of furs.
He wriggled underneath them and nestled near his warm sister. They were almost dry now, and protected from the chill of the outside. His eyes shut with little resistance and he was soon sleeping soundly.
