OOC Information
OOC Name: Accalia
Link to Previous Character: n/a.
General
Name: Cahaya Freeborn
Alias: Cayie - only for close friends (well, it would be if she had any) and boyfriends.
Species: Lupus
Gender: Female
Age: 2 years
Pack: Loner (planning to join Accord)
Rank: n/a
Physical
Height: 29 inches
Weight: 53lbs
Appearance: Midnight fur covers her body; black as the night, glossy and sleek. The only nod to her Lupus heritage is a bright purple marking on her forehead. It is an unusual and slightly random shape - the best approximation with which to describe it would be the 'natural' sign, in musical notation, with the gap filled in.
She has jewel-like deep purple eyes. Her eyes are a slightly darker colour than her forehead streak, and they are calm and cool, perhaps even slightly cold. There are glints there of intelligence, too, but mostly the effect is... well, beautiful or insufferably haughty, depending on whether you are the opposite gender or not. For a Lupus, she is reasonably graceful and slim. Her voice is slightly higher than most and very clear. She moves with a quiet pride, as though she knows she should be strutting around the place basking in glory but can't quite be bothered. For a Lupus, she's quite graceful and slim. Generally, the way she holds herself is very assertive, bordering on arrogant. Her tail is always held high and she tends to look you in the eye in a sort of cold, haughty way.
Cahaya is extremely slender and thin. Underneath all that glossy fur she's underweight. This is because of her poor hunting skills and her pride - she finds it very difficult to just ask for food, and it's hard for her to hunt for herself. She's been wandering alone for a while and as such as thin and bony, though not to the point at which her ribs show, so she's pretty enough to pull it off.
Other: n/a
Mental
Strengths: Cahaya is cold and focused. She doesn't let emotion get in the way of her decisions and is able to be quite detached and logical. Though her personality is a bit of a tangle, this cold, detached logic enables her to make more or less consistent and intelligent decisions.
Cahaya is stunningly pretty. This is her greatest strength, and the one she was brought up to use. She is an excellent flirt and tends to get her way using a combination of her looks and her strong acting skills.
Cahaya is a brilliant actor and liar. She is quite good with words and is reasonably persuasive.
She also has the sort of collection of odd, mismatched and mostly useless skills that one picks up leading Cahaya's sort of life. When she was young she was taught all she knows by a ragtag collection of many different wolves who came and went whenever they liked, so she didn't have much of a structured education - more like a little bit of everything and a few quirky talents.
Cahaya is graceful and elegant, something she worked on to accentuate her beauty. This skill has the unexpected and welcome side effect of allowing her to move almost silently, which is useful, because without that she would probably be completely incapable of hunting.
Because she is underweight, she tends to be light on her feet. That doesn't mean fast, she's just not got much weight behind each step.
Weaknesses: Cahaya seems to have no practical skills, and is almost incapable of actually providing for herself. She is an extremely poor hunter, and if it wasn't for her silent feet she'd never catch anything at all. She is a stunningly poor fighter and is neither strong, nor fast, nor agile, nor well-balanced. Her stamina is especially weak, and she is easily tired.
Cahaya is cold and friendless. While she is very happy to use flirting to get what she wants, when she's got whatever it is she tends to abandon the male, breaking his heart if at all possible. She has nobody who would stand up for her if she got into trouble. She isn't well-liked, and is somewhat lonely.
Cahaya is underweight and thin. While she is pretty enough that she can pull it off in terms of appearance, underneath, Cahaya has very little stamina because of her low weight. She gets tired and stressed out very easily and also sometimes finds it difficult to keep warm. She is also pretty lightweight, so easy to toss around in a fight.
Cahaya's personality is a bit of a tangled mess. This can lead her to be inconsistent. She constantly questions herself and she is uncertain and under-confident. She does things which make perfect sense to her, but to others seem nonsensical or cruel.
Cahaya is deeply proud and very arrogant. This is perhaps unfortunate, as she has to accept the help of others in order to live - she is not able to hunt for herself, or fight. If she acquires something, she has to see it as though it was she who accomplished it, meaning that she leans heavily on her beauty, as it's her only lever or way to exercise power. If she uses her beauty to convince somebody to do something for her, her pride remains undamaged, because the way she sees it, it was her beauty that accomplished the task.
Cahaya's lupus power of light is just emerging. Though she was tutored in the kind of mental determination and focus that it would need by Magispar, she's finding it difficult to control in these early stages, and hates the fact that her power is something 'useless' - as she sees it - like light, rather than something she could defend herself with.
Personality: Cahaya was raised to be cold, proud, and beautiful. And that she is.
Cahaya is cold. She has little to no feeling for others, and she discards the idea of friends. She thinks nothing of hurting another wolf. This has led to many wolves considering her something of a sadist. She truly isn't; this is just how she was trained to be. She takes no pleasure in hurting others - she just lacks empathy. Psychopath might be a better term, though really inside the problem is a lot more complex than that - it's nurture, not nature.
In manner, Cahaya is coolly dignified and somewhat aloof. She is polite but never friendly, tactful but never warm. She can be romantic, but never in a good way, a familiar or friendly way - Cayie uses flirting only to get what she wants.
Cahaya is fiercely proud and very arrogant. She has little to no regard or respect for others. While she may appear to be polite, this is her acting and lying skills coming to the fore - Cahaya is very ruthless and is perfectly willing to break your heart. She'd be willing to kill you if it came to that, but she wouldn't really know how and would prefer not to get blood on her nice shiny fur.
Behind Cahaya's cold, unloving exterior, she is a wolf in turmoil. It is nature versus nurture. She was brought up to have the face she shows to others. Deep inside, she is beginning to question this; but she is still deeply scarred from her somewhat dark upbringing, and bitter. She has no idea what the right thing is anymore. In another world, Cahaya could be a bright, brave, loyal young wolf; but she has no idea how to be the person who may - or may not - lie suppressed beneath Cahaya's oppressive conscious, which pushes away the thoughts she sometimes has.
History: Cahaya has no knowledge of what drove her mother to disappear suddenly from the Philia Alliance, as it was then known. It is her personal opinion that her mother was mad; but nobody can know now. Cahaya believes that her mother is dead, though she is not sure. She is not bothered much by this fact; she cared (and cares) little for her.
Cahaya is the daughter of Magispar.
While she was quite far from the Alliance, Magispar got into a rather bad fight and received a number of near-fatal injuries. During the delirium that followed, she found herself unable to find her way back to her pack. Magispar was scarred by loss and half deranged. The injury, her mother tells her, drove her mad for a short time. She heard voices in her head, she was dizzy and odd. She wandered far from her territory, and when she recovered, she realised than even with a lucid mind she did not know the way back.
She met another wolf, a young, handsome male Lupus with control of gravity. His name was Renius. He looked after her, helped her recover from her injury. She walked with a limp ever after, and she never regained her lost eye - how could she? - but he brought her back to life.
Afterwards, Magi wanted to leave. She said she owed much to him, but she had no desire for a mate. He grew aggressive.
A few months later, Cahaya, and her two siblings, Dian and Atri, were born in a bramble thicket to a crushed, broken and slightly insane mother. Magispar was not the wolf the Alliance had known; even if she had known the way back, she would never have been able to go and face her packmates, show them what she had become. So she stayed there. Her charisma and fire was never diminished by her insanity and injuries; it was just a bit... sporadic, and interspersed with periods of staring into space, and ranting and raving at the world, and sobbing hopelessly in a tangle of thorns. So she managed to raise a small pack around herself; only a few other wolves, who came and went and constantly changed. Some came because they liked Magispar's fire, and then left when they saw her insanity. Some came out of sympathy to the pups. Some came to take advantage of the broken light lupus, but these were generally driven off by the other wolves. Generally.
Magispar raised Cahaya, Dian and Atri with a kind of mad mixture of love and indifference. She would be their loving mother one minute, the next she would be staring into the distance, her eyes blank. The pups learned quickly to look after themselves; they were very close, and stood up for each other when their mother shouted at them, which was often.
Dian was always the head of the family, the leader. He was a strong cub, much stronger than either of his two sisters; he looked after Magispar when she lay trembling in a fit, he protected Cahaya from their mother's wrath, he saved Atri from a hostile honey badger once. Dian was the warrior. Magispar raised him that way because she had lost her own life. She used him, used him to live the life she believed she deserved through him. She admired his courage and strength and wanted it for her own. For her, it was as though she was the old Magispar again, whenever she looked at her son. Even though every single moment she was with her cubs reminded her of Renius and filled her with hate; that was why she would spend hours every day, ranting and raving, partly at them and partly at him and partly at herself and partly at the cruel, cruel world.
Atri was always the free spirit. Her mother tried to influence her, tried to raise her to be like Cahaya, but Atri would just smile and wander off to chase butterflies. She was absent-minded and kind and free. In a way, it was her salvation; it saved her from her mother's plans for her. In a way, it killed her. She was wandering one day and the honey badger came back, the same one that Dian had saved her from before. It killed her. Then Magispar, proud and terrible in one of her brief lucid moments, blinded it with light, drove it mad with illusions, sat back and laughed at its pain. Gloried in it.
Cahaya was not like that; she had not the strength. She was so young, and clay to be moulded in Magispar's insane, bitter paws. Cahaya grew up proud and cold and beautiful. She is Magispar's revenge on the world. She was brought up to break hearts.
The young light lupus was everything her mother planned for her. She broke hearts. She was beautiful. She was cold, proud, hard, unloving.
As cubs Cahaya and Dian were never very healthy; but with the small sort-of-pack that Magispar built around herself, they managed to grow up safely.
Then the number of wolves started to become less and less. Wolves in that group had always been come-and-go, the members were always changing, never more than a few at a time. They came because Magispar was inspirational when she had a lucid moment - if a bit deranged the rest of the time - and because Cahaya and Dian were cute and needed protecting, and because it was better company than no company at all. The cubs were grown up now, Magispar was falling deeper into madness, and Dian was old enough to protect them on his own. Cahaya could have helped, but Cahaya, being the pretty female Light Lupus, had always been Magi's favourite, closeted away and taught how to break hearts as her mother's revenge on the cruel world and on all those who share Renius' gender. Dian was the only one who really had any world experience, and he was a Fire Lupus, so was able to protect his younger sister. For that, Cahaya hero-worshipped her protective brother.
Eventually Dian grew fed up with Magispar's rages and madness, and he and Cahaya left. Without her pack and cubs, Dian and Cahaya believed she would die. They weren't awfully much bothered by this; Cahaya blamed her inability to feel affection or empathise on Magispar, and Dian just plain hated her. The two travelled together for a while, pack-hopping. Dian eventually was invited by one to stay as a fighter; he accepted, feeling a longing to belong. Cahaya felt no such feeling; she wanted to be alone more than anything. So after a ferocious argument with her brother, she left and kept wandering.
She felt his loss badly once her anger had cooled; she had never been without her brother and she was very close to him. But she doubted his pack would want her, or that he would forgive the things she said in the argument. This drove even more bitterness into Cahaya.
Alone, she was pretty vulnerable. She'd never really been trained to fight, though with Magi as a mother, she was a reasonably skilled light-user for her age. But she kept getting attacked by things and escaping by the skin of her teeth. She attracted a few male companions - she was beautiful, could she help it? - who protected her and taught her a few useful skills before she broke their hearts - she was brought up by a deranged lupus convinced that her daughter should use her beauty to get revenge on all males in the world, could she help that either? - but she eventually realised that however much she might not like it, she needed a pack. Cahaya was only just over a year old at the time and she knew she couldn't survive without somebody looking after her.
She would've liked to go back to Dian's pack and see if it would accept her, if he would forgive her after all, but she couldn't remember where their territory was. So she decided to hunt down her mother's old pack and see if it still existed, and who was leader now, and whether they'd accept her - and maybe, if it was still the glory that her mother claimed it was, it could help her with her serious case of identity crisis. She made her way to these lands, partly by scavenging and stealing, partly by flirting. She hated to do that, she hated to rely on her string of boyfriends for her survival, but she never really had much of an option. She recently dumped her last one, just in time to find herself here in WonderWhy, all alone and struggling with emerging powers. Her future is uncertain.
Other: Cahaya gave herself the surname Freeborn in a fit of defiance to her mother, some time after she left Dian.
