The sun peaked out from behind the clouds as the small brown and white Keiyou landed on frost crisped grass. Chance's wings flapped for a brief second more after touch down before they neatly furled. It had become somewhat of a routine for the small male to take a early morning flight to the river, sun bathe for a spell before going out to hunt. The ever declining temperature however was making the trips less and less pleasant. Though he did enjoy flying with the migrating birds at times, and today the sun kept him warm enough.
That in mind Chance lopped over to the the lake shore. The terrain changed from grass to pebbles and chilly sand that gave way a little under his weight. He shivered as water finally lapped at his paws, soaking through the fur and biting at the skin underneath. He dipped his head and took a drink, the water chilling him to the bones. It made him feel older than he was, not that he was young anymore. He liked to think he was a healthy middle age.
A black bird cawed over head, drawing his attention. The dark wings reminded him of the she-wolf he had met at the canyon. He wondered how she was doing now. He had almost not left in the morning but his instincts had gotten the better of him and he had fled like he said he would. Now he was once again in a pack, trying to make this lake his home. He hadn't really met anyone besides Faye but neither was he seeking out the company. One step at a time was what he told himself. Chance planned to handle things one step at a time. Fist get situated, then get to know his pack mates.

Aureia, as sure as she is, was certain that during Winter the water is better. Whichever cael that sad that wasn't true is crazy, so she thought. Walking swiftly toward the shore of the land, the tender grass gave comfort to her. Walking all the way here on patches of snow wasn't something to make Aur's day, but she did it anyways.
Sighing, she padded onto the sand at the far corner of the rocky shore. She was careful not to get touched by the greedy water just yet as she observed the mists coming from the spooky lake. She was fine on shore, because fortunately the mists weren't that thick where she was sitting. She didn't bother looking around; no wolves would be around, as they never were.
Overhead, a screech rippled through the air. Stupid birds, she thought. Slowly she returned her attention to the lake, it's current seeming to potentially fatal if someone were to fall in unprotected. She contemplated getting in. She wasn't too familiar with this lake, what if something bad happened? What if when she got in, she lost control of her fins and the current swept her away before she would be able to stop it? She pawed the ground, thinking intently.

The scent of another wolf drifted across the path of Chance's nose and it didn't smell like the Accord. This set the Keiyou's feathers on edge. He hadn't been here that long and didn't know his packs stance at hunters confronting loners. Plus he wasn't the fighting type if this wolf was hostile. Though he could always fly away and get reinforcements if push came to shove. And it was his duty as a member of the pack, no matter how new. Sometimes Chance hated his conscious and reason.
The brown and white male stalked around the shore, through the morning mist until a figure came into view. She was white with blue and yellow markings. His lion's tail flicked nervously. If she was a lupus that could be a real threat. He never liked dealing with lupuses. They were too powerful for his liking. The timid Kieyou raise his head and puffed out his wings trying to look bigger.
"Welcome, stranger, to the Centena Accord. What brings you to the lake?" that sounded about right. Not too hostile but not to friendly. Sure, it would do. Chance studied the she-wolf. They were about the same size though she was probably heavier. If anything were to go wrong he would defiantly need to flee. Tail twitching he pinned her with his vibrant violet gaze, looking as intimidating as a runt of a wolf could.

As usual, Aureia let herself go into her imaginings. This happened so constantly nowadays that it made Aur wonder if maybe it were a sign. Perhaps it meant that her beloved Mikao were alive.
But that's impossible! I saw him take his last breath . . .
A voice rang out in what was the cold silence of the lake. That wasn't my voice, Aur thought. Turning, she got a better look at the Keiyou standing there. He was brown, and white, with a prideful look about him. Aureia chuckled. It looked as if he was trying to hard. "Ah. You have caught me off guard, Stranger. It will never happen again, I assure you," she said, her voice sounding a bit like his. Her golden eyes turned cold, and the laughter in her voice seemed to vanish.
In her own mind, she could tell that she might seem a bit dull or hostile to him. It was partially not her fault, but it was because of Mikao's situation that she promised herself she wouldn't get close to anyone like that ever again. She didn't want to lose another. "I am a cael, and typically, I have come to see water, but as you can tell-" she cut off, looking out unto the misty lake.
