Hello, WonderWhyians.
It's me, Moonrose, clearly. I would like to bring something up that has been popping up the last several months and it involves the way I critique bios.
I know there are some of you who really love the way I do it, because you know I am trying to make you better at it. Then, there are the new members who think I am coming off as a bitch here when my replies tend to be much longer than the bios themselves.
For those of you who were in the cbox earlier, you may have met a new member. I made a short critique on their bio because I saw it as unfinished. In the cbox, they blatantly told me that I needed to be nicer when critique their bio. Right before that, however, I had left to go watch a movie with my family. I didn't see the comment and it was pointed out to me when I returned.
This is not the first person who has stated this to me, either through replies, the cbox, or PMs. Now, I do realize this can be a problem to some new members. It may seem like I am attacking you personally and that I am telling you you're stupid and that your character is no good. It may seem like I am telling you to redo the entire thing because you put no effort into it.
But I'm not.
When I critique bios, it is my job to make sure you do well at it. To make sure you are fluent with the character you create, and to make sure you are following all the rules that are required when you create a character. Look, I know that I am not as good as Arty or as Som when it comes to bios, but I am the way I am because I want to help you get better at it. I am not trying to put you down and I'm sorry if I come off as a bitch. However, creating a character is a thing I take seriously and I think it needs to be done well.
Now that I have informed you of this, I don't think I will apologize because I pick out every little detail that I think could be better. I am trying to help you improve on a personal level with your writing. I am trying to make you better because not everyone is the best writer out there. Some people need improvement and I want to help those people improve. If more effort and thought were really put into bios, I might not be as harsh when I take in consideration the work you put into it. But you have to show me how hard you worked on it.
Unfortunately, I will not be changing the way I critique the bios. I refuse to sugar coat this stuff because it needs to be picked up and looked at right. I might not be as kind as Som or Art in bios, but I do my best to help you improve. I hope you all understand this. Several people have mentioned this, some specifically at me, and I thought I should make an announcement about it. I was once told that the people who are harshest on you are the people you will thank in the long run, because they helped you improve.
If you have any personal problems with me, I would appreciate it if you took it to PM and not state it publicly in the cbox where a fight could start. PMs are private and the matter is more easily discussed.
