"Speaking" It was evening on the lake and Keinvarii was returning to her den that was nestled inside the protective embrace of the great forest that bordered along the stunning lake. With her stone wielding abilities she had created a large stone hollow in the earth that could accommodate up to three wolves comfortably and lined it with soft pelts and dried ferns to create a warm resting area. She had decided to make her way down from the top of the cliff where she had been watching the sun fall and giving her homage and thanks to the earth and had decided to take a detour by the shore before penetrating the forests. What had pushed her to extend this stroll in the evening hours? She wasn't sure, only that it had called to her and she had dutifully followed, knowing that the Great Spirit no doubt had good call for disrupting her route.
With the sun now well under the horizon line the stars sparkled brightly off the lake waves as they crashed rhythmically on the rocks, creating and eerie melody that soothed her ears and began to ease the stress from her body. Sighing she sat down at the edge, leaning forward to lick gratefully at the cold water and feeling the crystalline liquid run down her parched throat. This was home, for better or for worse and she would live here until she died. In fact she could almost feel a call that rang in the souls of most females, the calling to create a family and make links within the world. She had found no one to love, so perhaps to ensure the pack's survival she might take a mate that was compatible for the role and from this union could finally gift the pack with heirs. It was her responsibility and duty to the group for a Queen could only retain power so long without a king and heirs to ensure her place on the throne.
Perhaps in time she could even learn to love the arranged king, their union need not be story tale perfect, love was such non sense any ways. Besides, in order for the heirs to be truly pure the selected mate would need to be one of her own species, and good ness knew how few male lupuses ever set foot in their land. It was a heavy burden to bear, but a necessary one all the same and as the female aged so did the burden grow. A small tear ran down her face, but she briskly wiped it away on her paw, there was no need for that for she really had all she deserved and sacrificing a bit seemed only deserving considering the circumstances. Her pride would not allow her to dwell in misery for there was much to be done before the pack became fully secure, Knights needed to be found and soon.
There would be time soon enough for this sort of musing , Keinvarii decided, tonight was time enough for a bit of quiet contemplation. Sometimes the loneliness seemed to almost stifle her, and the idea of a companion even one she did not love, was not always such a woeful thought. Though she could certainly settle for a friend, one whom could lend solid companionship and open unjudgemental council. She glanced about and wondered if perhaps the polite Siren might be nearby, resting in the waters of the lake...Softly she whispered, "Are you there Siren?" and willed there to be a response.

Much like other marine mammals, the hybrid swam using up and down motions, his tail and back legs providing most of the momentum for his movements. Occasionally his front paws would paddle, but for the most part they hugged his body to prevent drag.
Siren had spent the day picking off migratory birds which landed on the lake's surface, and now he took some time to himself to stretch out some muscles and relax. The low impact exercise of swimming never failed to calm the hybrid. He sighed, the bubbles of his breath floating upward toward the surface. The male followed them until his nose breached the surface, taking in a lung-full of air. Within the breath of oxygen was the scent of Keinvarii. Of course, being queen, her smell was everywhere, but now it was much stronger.
His head sunk quickly back into the water, his orange eyes perusing the shoreline from beneath the surface. He pinpointed the location of a green and white form and swam eagerly in the direction. Not wanting to intrude, Siren kept quiet and waited. He lowered himself into a forest of weeds and watched the lupus. Siren frowned when he spotted the stray tear. He held back the urge to comfort her, staying put among the plants.
Then he heard his name come from her lips. His ears shot up and a surprised smile lit up his face. Had she come here to speak with him? That hope seemed too unlikely to be true, and yet she sought him out. Siren swam slowly toward the shallows, not wanting the queen to know that he had been spying on her..
He pulled himself onto the rocks beside her, the water sliding off his oily pelt. "I will always be here to answer the call of my queen." He answered with a shy smile. "Is there something you need?"

"Speaking" Keinvarii couldn’t be sure her call would be answer, it had only been a soft summoning of sorts and yet she was not surprised to find Siren nearby, something had led her to him. Had he seen her little display? A soft blush crept onto her skin and for a moment she had trouble raising her head enough to gaze at the handsome wolf, and it was the knowledge that she was Queen and needed to stand strong that pulled her out of her embarrassment. She let her gaze slowly connect with the male’s, startling blue meeting warm orange and silently questioned what he had seen as though the soul within the eyes could answer any tell tale question.
Smiling with increased relief she said, "Good evening Siren, I hope I am not disturbing you, a Queen never wants to be a burden to her subjects.” A small shadow slithered across her eyes at the mention of a burden but she chased it away quickly enough, hoping that it had gone equally unnoticed. Her tail waged slowly, caressing the rocks that had softened from consistent waves and been battered by veracious weather over the centuries. Who was this polite fellow? She knew so little about the new members joining and it pained her to think she might forgo the chance to get to really know them, too absorbed in daily tasks and this was not the type of ruler she wanted to become.
The pack was small indeed, but only because the pure of heart and the noble of soul were scarce and few between and the land which they lived in could seem a bit imposing and Keinvarii rather preferred it this way. Slow growth would lead to increased kinship and strength among the members and ensure they could survive the tribulations of time. What exactly did she want from Siren? How could she give him an answer when she herself was not entirely sure? It just seemed the wolf’s company was what she sought, but she could not voice this for despite her own personal growth she had never really faced her own needs and had consecrated her life to the protection of others and the pack.
She had never really considered what she needed and once again she was considering sacrificing her own hopes to maintain the safety of the pack and she just wanted a moment to selfishly indulge in good company. The hybrid’s words washed over, the calm voice melodic and soothing and she breathed in deeply, releasing the stress from the day as she unconsciously let her shoulders slump. “Perhaps I seek…I seek good company.” She glanced at Siren, hoping he might understand and not resent her for having taken him from his own life to converse with a Queen. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

His ears stood ready as he waited for Keinvarii to speak. A satisfied smile slowly melted across the hybrid's mouth. So when she sought company she came looking for him? The thought sent his heart reeling with hope.
"Your presence could never bother me, miss." Siren's eyes conveyed the pure sincerity in his heart. In truth, seeing the lovely green lupus was the highlight of his day. Or well, it would have been, if Keinvarii had not been crying. His expression sobered a bit at the thought. What had upset her? Siren gazed into the blue eyes of the female across from him, willing her to speak her troubles. He silently wished he were in a position to ask.
"I'm actually flattered that you'd come to me for company." Not only was he flattered, Siren was also pleasantly surprised by this valuable knowledge. Was it possible that the water-logged hybrid had won a small place in her heart? He would find out, depending on her response to his next question. "If I may be so bold..Could I ask if there is something troubling you?" He swallowed thickly, fearing that he had overstepped his boundaries. Then again, she had taken him from his duties just to converse. She had brought his inquiries upon herself.
