It was actually becoming warmer. Estotia leaped surely across the prairie, her bounds low. The tickle of the blooming grasses and her thick beige belly fur never parted, though her paws never seemed to touch the ground, giving the appearance that she was merely skimming over the grasses. She was a snake. A brightly colored red orange snake with shimmery turquoise eyes, legs and two tails. Sure.
The exclusive privilege to have more than one tail was the blessing of being a mature lyxxus. She didn't like it much herself. The twin tails were whipping around her wildly at the moment. Having split not two weeks ago, Estotia still found it a bit unnatural to control and wasn't used to having them constantly brush against each other.
Growing a bit irritated at the two of them, she whipped around suddenly, snapping at them. This was obviously a bad idea in more ways than one; one of those reasons being that she had shifted rapidly in the middle of a jump. Ungracefully, she hit the ground on her side with a yelp and rolled a few feet. She laid there for a second before pushing herself up into a sitting position, her side stinging from the rough impact.
Shaking the bits of dried grass from her coat, she folded her ears back and peered over the tall grass as it swayed with the frosty breeze, searching for any upsets in the steady rhythm and trying to catch any strange scents. Seeing nothing significant in her quick scan, she ducked back to where she wasn't very visible, sending a glare at her tail as if it was its fault. She scoffed and settled her head down on her paws, her ears pricked and alert for any sounds and her nose twitching periodically. Astonishingly, she found herself almost wishing another wolf would chance upon her.
What wonders never cease?

From a young age Altan had been a curious being, sneaking out of the den as a pup to go off and explore, then it had been to watch the elder wolves in the pack, or well simply Reynard really, an urge to be like him. That will for adventure it seemed hadn't really left the confident youngster, although littered with other reasons, the young lyxxus had left his pack for a good while. He was back now but things still weren't the same.
He knew that nothing would be as it once had, when he and Nocht had first begun to learn the ways of the pack as pups, when Reynard had cared for them and the pack had been a little smaller. He wasn't immature enough to sulk that the pack was larger, he knew it was good for them to gain more members, whether adults or the new pup additions, the problem was simply that he still felt a little left out of the loop. Everyone had their own jobs, routines and relationships, he could understand that he had his own job after all, though it was likely that said job was a large source of his problems, or just plain moodiness really. He wanted to be at least a little more important, that attention seeking ego simply hadn't faded.
And so those little breaks still seemed necessary. He never strayed far, nor did he stay away for too long, now he stuck solely to the Eastern Lands, and today his path brought him out of Lumera Valley and exploring the Prairie. This isolation didn't suit him either though, and right now Altan was feeling like he simply couldn't win. Nocht was no help to his feelings, his brother was right at home amongst everyone, even their mother now. As childish as it might have been, Altan still put a lot of blame on Aurora.
The strange scent that met his nose as he moved through the lands was a little refreshing. Of course he knew the dangers that other wolves might present, he had been warned and had seen the damage they could do on wolves like poor Moonrose. He had avoided such situations himself though, and now despite his curiosity hoped to do the same thing again now.
And so he became a little more cautious in his movements, remaining alert as he kept an eye and ear out for the stranger. They of course had just as much right to be here as he did, and Altan knew he couldn't rely upon the pack's existence to get out of this should things become a little difficult. Having missed the stranger's awkward attack on herself though, Altan was now left with the other wolf out of sight, not a fact he was overly fond of really.

With a light snort she raised her head again and propped herself up back into a sitting position. Curiously, she nudged a few of the stalks and grass blades around her, taking in their scent and texture with only mild interest. Her head sideways, she gently gripped one in her small teeth, nibbling it lightly before biting down and snapping it with a crack in her teeth.
Her ears pricked at the audible sound the stalk made. Smirking, she snapped at another. It made a sound as well, a touch louder than the other. She lost any speck of interest in the grass quickly.
She almost missed that new scent, however. The breeze shifted, blowing wolf scent towards her before switching again. She was instantly alert and sat still and quiet, her black-tipped ears swivelling like radars to catch any rustling caused by a disturbance other than the wind.
She didn't pick out anything specific and instead sniffed deeply, trying to pick up scent. After a moment's hesitation, she reared up, her front paws leaving the ground so that only her bunched up hindquarters supported her. This way, she was a bit taller, scanning the area from a newer perspective.
She almost thought she caught a quick flash of something amonst the grass, but she quickly lost sight of it. Even so, she decided to investigate. Even if it wasn't a wolf as she thought, it was still worth checking out in her books. Trying to keep the rustling that would give her away to a minimum, she crept through the grass, her nose and paws parting it slowly to allow her to pass.

The scent still lingered strongly in the air, and the sudden slight rustle of the grass informed Altan that this wolf wasn't too far away. His direction changed slightly, moving through the grass carefully towards the stranger. He just wanted a glimpse, at least to locate the stranger's exact position to stay away if necessary. He had confidence, though Altan wasn't stupid, he wouldn't go picking fights, especially not when he didn't even know what he might be up against.
The rustling seemed to prove that the other wolf was also on the move, perhaps having noticed that they weren't alone either. Now the question was, were they equally as cautious or just waiting for a good moment to attack. He certainly hoped it was the first one, again despite his confidence he'd rather not fight if it wasn't needed.
Head lifting to watch for any sign of the wolf, he soon spotted the nose followed by a brightly coloured head, the reddish hues of a fellow lyxxi. Well now at least if it went to a fight he'd have a fairer chance than if some yagi suddenly jumped at him. Now although he wasn't upon the children's lands anymore, the question that suddenly formed in his mind was still a valid one he felt. "Who are you" He needed no authority to ask that, simply curiosity.
