His huge paws spread his weight evenly across the ground, making him silent, and therefore lethal as he moved through the forest. His flecked coat blended in well with the surrounding foliage. The only thing that gave him away was the soft glow of his purple eyes. Easy enough to hide, he knew, and a great way to attract prey... he had already snagged two rabbits this morning, leaving them at the home tree and was out now reinforcing the borders and just generally looking around. Nothing happened in the taiga that escaped his knowledge. It was his job to know everything, and everyone. He could pick each pup out by name, he knew their parents... even if they didn't know him, he made it a priority to know everyone.
So today was no different than any other day as he stalked through the forest, stopping here and there to check the borders. As always they were strong, no sign of intruders. The Enclave was probably now the biggest pack around, and so they were a force to be reckoned with. Murmurings of changes to the Empire had not escaped him; something about them being on the move. These things worried him, brought up his guard - he needed to constantly make sure the land was safe from the yagi. Their previous queen, as far as he had gathered, was bat shit crazy, and though he had heard little of the new leaders, he knew there was an outstanding rivalry between themselves and the previous leader of the Knights. Would that sort of thing carry down to Ahote now? So far there had been no warning signs, but that didn't completely eliminate the problem. Duchan was on guard until he was sure there was nothing underfoot.
He had walked quite a distance before the sun began to rise, shedding light over the surroundings. The animals in the forest were waking, and so Duchan turned himself around, moving back towards where he had come from. Nothing immediate needed his attention now. He mulled over the idea of grabbing a few males to go on a real hunt, perhaps for some sort of deer. Rabbit was good, but he was getting sick of it. Plus it would be nice to hunt as a whole. The idea was still fresh in his mind the closer he got to the home tree. He stayed within the forest though, stopping for a moment and looking around himself. Mornings were such chaos, pups waking, crying out for food. The solitude and simplicity of the forest was just what he needed right now.
Duchan lowered himself onto his haunches, letting out a deep breath and closed his eyes. For once it was nice to just relax. He let his mind empty, the sound of the autumn wind through the trees coaxing him into a deeper state of relaxtion.

She was enjoying an early morning flight before addressing her daily duties to the pack. Watching the sunrise from the air was an immensely calming experience. Her view of the light pink and blue sky was unobstructed by trees or hills. Rava flew toward the rising sphere of light, enjoying the warming effect it had on her fur.
Rava ducked down, folding her wings slightly as she descended through the sparse evergreen trees. Her paws touched down on the fresh snow and she shook some flakes from her soft pelt. A satisfied smile laid loosely on her mouth, she breathed deeply, taking in the cold air.
She padded forward at a leisurely pace, her nose picking up on a familiar scent. The smell of one of her pack-mates reached the keiyou. She was in a remarkably good mood on this particular morning, and decided to seek this male out. He was one of the higher ranked males, which meant that Ahote respected him. Rava didn't know him that well, but she trusted the Drott's judgement.
The winged-wolf emerged from the treeline, and spotted the dark form of Duchan laying nearby. She smiled gently, wondering if he was trying to sleep. Not wanting to be rude, Rava walked past him quietly. If he was tired, then she would let him rest. Her maw dipped into the lake, pink tongue lapping at the cold water.

The gentle scent of another wolf was clear to him as the female approached. He did not move, and his eyes stayed shut, inhaling her scent deeply. It was familiar, and it took him a moment to place it. Wasn't she the wolf who was so close to Ahote's own offspring? Once he had come to this conclusion he let his lips curl into a slight smile for a second, something the female would not see as she was now drinking from the lake. His eyelids slid open to reveal his orchid eyes. In the dawn light they glowed a bit through the misty morning air, and he spent a few minutes just watching the female.
She was strong looking, and colourful of course. That could never be unnoticed on the female. Wasn't she the one with whom Alucio had such a friendship? A single brow quirked, and he wracked his brain for her name. He knew it was something unique, just like her. Finally the name came to him and his maw parted quietly.
"Good morning Rava," he said, realising his sudden voice might make her jump in response. She wasn't looking at him, with her head turned down, and since he had appeared to be asleep, him suddenly speaking with her may have startled her. He rose swiftly from his position and padded towards the side of the lake, so that he was now equal with the female before him. "Lovely morning, is it not?" Small talk came fairly easily to the male, and he hoped Rava would not feel uncomfortable with him approaching her.
"Have you been caring for the yagi pups? I see them often around you. It appears you have caught their hearts. That must be good for them, being without a real mother," he spoke this as if he was talking about the weather. The idea of Seven meant very little to him; she was a weak leader and she had abandoned her own pup and pack, for god knows why. The thought of this was sickening to the male, who would never abandon those whom he cared for.
"I hope the day is treating you well."

So he wasn't asleep after all? The keiyou was admittedly startled by the sound of his voice, but after discerning that she was in no danger she visibly relaxed, her tenseness melting away within seconds. A small breath of air wafted from her lips, instantaneously becoming a cloud of steam which hovered around her cream colored face.
"It is a fine morning," she conceded with a serene smile. "I love the feeling of crisp air beneath my wings." Said feathery structures stretched out beside her, gently brushing the ground. In truth, Rava pitied the wolves which were chained to the ground by gravity. Flying was such an incredible blessing that the keiyou could scarcely imagine a life without it.
"I hope I didn't wake you, Duchaneir." Her brows furrowed with slight concern. She knew the males of the pack were responsible for much of the Enclave's success, and as such needed their rest. She was very grateful to the protectors and the hunters and especially respected the three highest ranking males. Rava had previously had a chance to converse with both Ahote and Alucio, but Duchan remained slightly mysterious to the Eranthe. It seemed the opportunity to get to know him had finally presented itself this morning, however.
The mention of the pups brought a warm glimmer of affection to the keiyou's blue eyes. It was true, she had become a sort of foster parent to the litter and was proud of how each of the young ones had grown. "Ah, those three are so precious." Her voice filled with nostalgia as she thought of Adraxxia, Aroh, and Syver. "They've grown so quickly, soon they'll be bigger than I am." Rava chuckled at the thought of the gangling yearlings they would soon be. She nodded solemnly as Duchan brought up the pups' mother. "It is a shame they never truly knew a mother's love, but under the watchful eyes of the pack they've certainly flourished."
