She knew there were several packs in the north that occupied land there, one being the ally of her own home pack the Cadre. It had been talked about multiple times that Ahote and Rhia were allies above all else, and that the large Yagi would do anything for Rhia to see her and her family safe. While Oteka was not on quite such friendly terms with the Yagi male leader, she knew she could go to his lands without technically causing a war. So further north she went, and the further she went, the colder it got. She would say it was nearly unbearable, because it was. The cold, light yet somehow heavy substance called snow crunched underneath her webbed paws, and she had a horrible time re-learning how to walk on it.
Her paws slipped and she slid to the left and right for a few long moments before finally flopping down in the mound of snow she was trying to conquer. She lay there for a long moment, a medium sized lump of brown and yellow, her claws folded in to the sides as she huffed and sent little pieces of snow falling everywhere. She was fascinated by it, but also knew in a small amount of time she would need water of some sort. Her bill dug and lifted a small mound of snow before she snorted and shook her head from side to side sending the white powder falling from her face as she struggled to stand and move along through the snow. Erena was practically groaning with displeasure at the very idea of snow, in reality platypi did not do well in snow, considering they spent half their time in the water, and freezes and ice did not bode well for finding food. Oteka herself was having problems, having to feed on those animals who dropped dead from the cold or previous hunts, as that was the only way she could take down food on her own. Only once during her travels had she taken down a rabbit.
The animal had been scared out of it’s hiding place and promptly ran into her, where her claws tripped up the creature and opened it from the neck to it’s stomach, allowing her to feast on it’s tender, yet not quite so fatty flesh. By the smells around her she knew she was coming close to a water source very close to the Enclave’s lands, and she knew that there was at least some sanctuary to come, as soon as she stopped off to find a drink. It would take the next several hours scouting around, and finally pushing her paws into the snow and dragging herself through it for balance to see a lake where she could get something to drink. However, Oteka was not prepared to find the lake partially frozen over. She pawed and clawed at the ice but only managed to fall and slide over closer to where it was not so frozen. It looked as though something had broken through the ice, leaving a nice ledge where she could stand to drink. Had Oteka known anything of ice she would have been wary standing there and enjoying the water no matter how cold it felt going down her throat.
Wolves who lived here knew that with enough weight or pressure, the ice would crack and she would fall in, but she had turned her ears left and right and had not scented another wolf other than the faded scents of travelers and the occasional pack wolf’s scent, but none were fresh enough to give her pause. Lapping at the water she was instead listening to the prattling and obnoxious chatter of Erena as she complained about the cold, the icy water, the lack of her type of food. Oteka merely rolled her eyes and tried to explain that she had nothing to complain about considering she didn’t have a body to exist outside and actually feel the cold. But trying to explain that to Erena was a waste of her time. However, it did place her in a vulnerable position, her back turned to everything, distracted by her second soul and perilously close to the water, to which she was partaking in as a drink and to wash her muzzle off.

The large dark figure that stalked across the sacred claimed lands of the Enclave was not hindered by such knowledge, his nose firmly following the ground defiantly in search of something he had been tracking for a while. His body shivered in anticipation as the fresh smell of wolf would distort his longing for the other scent that followed the same path. It was no doubt, another hunting down it's prey, with Kratos hot on their heels. Perhaps if he was quick enough, he would be able to take the meal from whomever was foolish enough to defend it from the behemoth of a Yagi.
The thick fur that ran the length of his spine bristled against the thick spikes that sprawled along his back as the scent grew stronger, and only then did Kratos lift his heavy head upward. Fiery orbs danced across the white terrain, eager to see if they had gained on the unsuspecting target. His stomached knotted and growled loudly as a distant figure came into view, whilst large dabs of spit began to linger on his maw as he started to drool.
He had traveled a fair distance from the Jungle, and from that precious green gem named Hysteria. Her twisted smile lingered endlessly in his mind, teasing him, exciting him. His thoughts would often delight in fantasizing about taking the female, and one day he would make it reality. He had no problems mating with other females that he desired against their will, no, but he had been on his brothers land. And he wasn't about to disrespect the only wolf he had ever respected. So respect him he did, Scorch blissfully unaware that in a disturbing way, he had cock blocked him.
So it was not unusual for the brute to be wracked with hunger and on the prowl for an easy meal, and thus he was, and he had finally spotted his prize. The scent of wolf still lingered in the air, but one could not be seen. This confused Kratos, but he wasn't about to let this little riddle get in the way. All he saw was the backside of a large platypus. Hang on just one moment. An enormous backside of a platypus. That thing was huge! It was like one of his own kind had mated with one of the water dwellers, and this was the outcome. While undoubtedly gross, even by Kratos' standards, it was also quite pleasing. The bigger the meal, the more satisfied he would be.
Pausing for a moment to study the animal, Kratos' mind was hard at work figuring out his plan of attack. It seemed fairly simple; he had the element of surprise firmly within his paws. The creatures back was facing him, and it seemed on the verge of a mostly frozen over lake. There would be no escaping his full force, except to try and find a break in the ice. Even then the temperature of the liquid would make for more of a slow and painful death should one not be able to break back through to the surface.
Without another second to lose, an excited growl filtered from the Yagi's maw as he dived forward, legs warm with running gliding over the harsh landscape easily. The ground groaned and shook under his thundering weight, if it didn't hear him, it would definitely feel him him coming. As he drew closer to his target, Kratos let out somewhat of a battle cry, his menacing bark vibrating through the air. He couldn't wait to see it's reaction, only seconds before he took it as his own.
However the large brute had made one minor error in his approach. He failed to directly asses the landscape around him. Whilst he was experienced in snow, the freshly coated layer of the morning had gone unnoticed. It was always much more hazardous and slippery as opposed to snow that had had a while to settle and firm.
And with that his left hind leg gave out, sending the Yagi toward his meal in a slight spiral, tooth and claw snapping about as he tried to steady himself. Unfortunately it was far too late, and with one sickening crack, the brute had collided with the platypus hybrid.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,392,true] | [atrb=background,http://i.imm.io/6nVp.png][scrolly:h(249),w(392),sy] She swore in those moments that if it was the last thing she did she would find a way to get away from Erena. The prattling and constant chatting back and forth did nothing to make her feel like a whole, sane wolf, and frankly, she was tired of the diet of the platypus anyway. She would still need to eat to sustain a much bigger body but she simply could not go on living like this. Usually talk of suicide tended to shut Erena down but she supposed she was worked up due to the cold and the fact that they were both technically inches from water that could stop them from breathing in a matter of seconds. Oteka was not a vain creature by any means but she could not help to glance down at herself for several long moments, clipping her bill against the water and watching the ripples. In those ripples, in a matter of moments she saw a blurred vision of herself which made her almost feel better, and to put the constant inner workings of her mind to rest about how ugly she truly was.
Having found food and water she did not quite know what to do, her pelt was nearly waterproof, which would help her had she fancied a swim, and the bright yellow of her underbelly was not so shocking when compared to the stark whiteness of the snow surrounding the area. She supposed she could always enter into Ahote’s lands and ask him for shelter throughout the cold season, and then return to Rhia as the weather warmed. There were a plethora of things she could do, but she couldn’t help but think she should have stayed with Vereine, their last encounter had been this side of nearly sweet and she was stupid to make her way further up north. She knew the black winged myou was not going to follow her to such a hellish cold place as this and so she was not sure why she persisted in doing these things other than to have a severe death wish despite her most recent…burst of pride and ego.
Suddenly, Erena went entirely silent within her mind, which was never a good thing. Her head rose slowly, and she tried to scent around her, but it was not scent that lead her to know she was in serious trouble, it was the ground moving beneath her. For a moment she thought earthquake but when her webbed paws began to slide different ways and the sound of an enraged wolf filtered into her ears that she turned around to see her death coming straight for her. A sound of fear escaped her bill but not in enough time to do anything to save her. Her paws and claws scraped against the snow in a futile attempt to try to move to the left or right, or even run, but it was no use. The same soul who offered her companionship, and comfort would not be part of the reason for her death. In a moment of slow motion Oteka closed her eyes and braced herself. With her eyes closed there was no way to see the large Yagi’s leg out out, or him sliding toward her out of his own control.
The crack was what her ears heard but the rest of her body suddenly felt as though she had been thrown off a cliff and collided with hard, sheer ground. Had her eyes not been closed she was not sure what she would have seen, not truly knowing pain until this instant. She felt several ribs pop and break within her body from the sheer force, and felt the two wolf’s weights go sliding out over the ice, which she had known was thin to begin with but now cracked, and giving only seconds of warning, she tried to pull herself up and off, but the pain in her sides and chest, with her aforementioned weaknesses stopped her, and she could do nothing but stare into the body and face of her attacker as the ice gave way beneath them. The water felt as though liquid ice had enveloped her, and even with her waterproof coat she felt the air go out of her lungs in a large rush.
But as if this was not enough to seal her fate the weight of her attacker was nearly on top of her, his own powerful legs kicking down on her and keeping her from reaching the water for yet another breath. Her openings on her bill closed in an effort of self preservation but she was not sure how long she could possibly stay underwater with her injuries, the amount of blood that entered the water let her know that her internal injuries were probably far worse then anything on the outside. Her webbed claws scratched down his backside in an attempt to get to the air she would need to try to get away. Clawing her way up as fast as she could she flung her body upwards, yelping in pain as she gasped in one large gulp of air before hitting the water, the impact on her already bruised and broken body causing her vision to blur, as she fell right back into the water, and right back next to her attacker….Self preservation was not going to win against the sheer amount of damage her small body was taking. The force of the impact did not affect the bulky Yagi as much as it did the little Myou. However in the moment of his spiraling movement, his paw had caught itself under the platypus' heavy tail, spraining it as they slid awkwardly across the frozen lake. Snarling in disappointment, sabers flared to reprimand his protesting meal. However she was completely under him, his footing unable to steady themselves enough to get a grip on the weakening ice below.
It was this sudden realization that caused Kratos to pause in his angered frenzy. The various cracking sounds that assaulted his audits caused his ruby optics to widen, following the thick paths in the separating ice that would run all around the hunter and the hunted. There they perched, still in time, waiting for the unforgiving landscape to take them whole. Giving Kratos no other warning, it finally broke apart completely, sharp blades of jagged ice flying above the pair before encasing them as they fell below.
Erratic bubbles filled the water around him as he let out a growl of surprise, the heavy broken plates of ice pushing both of them completely underwater for a second. The freezing liquid smothered and suffocated his broad body for but a moment, and Kratos got a brief sense of fear for the first time in his adult life. It seemed to seep withing his very body, causing his muscles to slow and stutter almost instantly. The severe chill of the liquid that flooded his throat and ear canals sent his mind reeling, survival mode well and truly kicking over.
All he ever had was his bulk, the very brunt of where all his power came from. The root of his attractiveness. Yes, his vanity was still there, clinging firmly within his thoughts even on the brink of misfortune. Forgetting about eating his meal, his only option was to use her to save his own life. As he kicked frantically in the dark depths, large paws did not manage to scrape the murky earth below. They were in far too deep, his looming desperation was thick in the air as the behemoth tried to breath from a body that refused to work under the extreme conditions.
She was his floating device at this point, his life line. Heavy body would kick against hers, giving Kratos the depserate seconds in which to break the surface for air. His ruby optics flared at the sight of dry land, which was so close. Plunging back under the water, more bubbles encased them as sharp stings assaulted the Yagi's body. The platypuses claws repeatedly pelted him, and Kratos cried out in muffled surprise. More water flooded through his body, causing a thick, dark mixture to flow around the pair as he vomited. He was drowning, wasn't he? Exactly how his mother had wanted it in the very first place. Damn that bitch, and damn this one.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,392,true] | [atrb=background,http://i.imm.io/6nVp.png][scrolly:h(249),w(392),sy] Oteka did not know what to do, it seemed like everything had happened in slow motion, from the time of impact until now, she had seen the teeth of the giant Yagi as they had slid across the ice, and in that moment she thought she might live. She was stupid enough to believe that she might have had a chance, being lighter she may have been able to slide across the ice without his bulk and get away. But it would seem that there was no spirit that was that kind and the water that surrounded her now was choking off her lung’s ability to breathe. It wrapped around her being and choked off the commands of her brain to her lungs, to the webbed feet that should have been so helpful, and in that moment a sort of peace took over Oteka. It seemed her mind was quiet, and while she would have figured Erena would be screaming her brains out to do something, swim somewhere, there was nothing, and Oteka figured out that she was going to die, and that coward Erena had gone first, leaving her to die alone.
The water stopped her from hearing any noises made by her attacker, and even though she could see things around her, thanks to the second eyelid of Erena’s species. She could see the bubbles between the both of them from impact and from exhaling underwater but it was very short lived. She wanted to close her eyes in that moment and never open them again. All the times she had threatened to kill herself, all the times she had wanted to die, and now of all times she was going to. One of the last things she remembered in that icy coffin was Vereine…and she could have kicked herself at that point. One of her last moments and that irritating male came to her vision, the lanky body all ebony and his eyes that were so unique to her but she hadn’t realized until right now, and sitting atop, wings of the blackest night, wings she had always been envious of, wishing she had those instead of her bill and webbed toes.
All these thoughts came through in what seemed like forever, but in reality only lasted a few short seconds. When she opened her eyes again all she could see were very large paws coming at her from every angle raining down on her, and causing her so much more pain. It already hurt to try to move, and her lungs felt like they might burst as it was. Suddenly though blackness began to swim near her eyes and she knew sooner rather than later she would die soon. Without the ability to fight for air and reach the surface she wouldn’t have a chance. She swiped forward with her paws and reached out to further claw into her attacker, but in that moment, they weren’t the webbed paws she was used to, they were longer, and the claws sharper as she dug into flesh and the scent of blood came to her. She reached down with her muzzle…wait…muzzle…! Where was her bill? The teeth of a fully grown adult wolf snapped down on her attacker’s ankles, time and time again until she tasted blood and flesh on her tongue and smelled it somewhere deep inside of herself.
Realizing she had such little time left, she lifted her back legs and pushed into the bulk of the other wolf, propelling her away and upwards toward the surface. Her smaller myou body was no more, her bones had seemingly lengthened and given her the last ability to try to save her life as she went spiraling upward toward the ice that would block her way. Luckily she did not have far to go, and her newly larger body cracked through the ice, bringing her within inches of unconciousness. The last thing she saw was the ground which seemed so close and the burning of fresh oxygen as she gasped and fought to take in as much as possible before she went under once more and then flopped up again. Stars blurred her vision and blackness began to take over at the corners as she made the futile attempt to paddle toward the land as best she could.
As luck would have it, it would be the waves of all the commotion, and the large pieces of ice sinking that would propel her now useless but changed body toward the shore. At this point she could not even find the energy or where with all to paddle anymore, and all she could be thankful for was the air that had reached her burning lungs. But now she lay drifting over the ripples and small waves toward salvation, that is if her newly formed body could handle the abuse she had suffered at the paws of the Yagi. Blood welled down the top of her head where one of his feet had collided with her skull, and there were various bruised muscles and broken bones to help her die even once she reached the surface of solid ground. It was not even within her ability to look back to see if the brute that had attacked and tried to eat her was still alive or struggling. Little did Oteka know that her world would change forever, if she could just live through the worst encounter of her life thus far.. [/scrolly] | |
