The pups were pretty much old enough now to fend for themselves, and they had done pretty well. Eolande found herself with a new sense of authority, especially since her mother had left suddenly without any warning. Avalon had risen in the night and just walked off, leaving the pups with little explanation. They were weaned now, though not quite ready to live on their own. Either way they had each other, Ahote and all the females to help care for them. What Eolande was not expecting was to see her 'father' Pyke wander after Avalon after realising she was gone.
With both of her parents gone Eolande felt a new sense of power, freedom and general happiness. A rare occurrence happened as a smile filled her maw, nudging Delirium awake from the tree den. He yawned, rolling onto his stomach and looking up at her. "Eo it's too early, can we go back to sleep?" His question was met with a snort as the much larger hybrid female roused him to consciousness and looked out from their tree. "It's time to get a move on Liri, let's go find Ahote's pups or something. We should practice our hunting," Delirium looked at her with skepticism and she sighed, knowing how the pup missed both their parents. "That way when dad and... mum, get back they'll be proud," she added begrudgingly. The comment seemed to bring renewed enthusiasm to the small lupus and he trotted along after his sister.
They were examining the dens, finding out which ones were full and empty and trying not to disturb anyone. Finally after their cursory search the emerged from the tree, glancing around the open area as the two began to sniff around, trying to find something to hunt.

Syver rose from the den, surrounded by his brother and sister. He was careful not to wake Adraxxia and moved towards Aroh... but something made him stop, leaving his beloved brother to sleep while he moved steadily towards the exit of the den. Syver, as much as he hated to admit it, was a bit bummed by the disappearance of Avalon. She had been almost like a mother to him, and since he had no idea what happened to her own mother [despite his siblings knowing] he felt some sort of attachment to her. He trudged through the tree, his body having grown tremendously since he was just a puppy. He was still quite young, but almost fully grown. He was still dwarfed by his father and brother, but he stood at least as tall as most of the other wolves now. He could barely be considered a puppy. Of Avalon's brood, only the horned pups rivalled his size, and that had always made Syver quite curious. Of her seven pups, only four looked like regular lupus. The other three had horns just like a yagi, and yet, they were not yagi. They were smaller, leaner, and even though their horns were just coming in, they glowed.
It was something Syver knew he had to ask his own father, and he would with time. Ahote was so busy lately, the pack grown so large now that Syver hardly knew everyone in it. He glanced in the dens as he passed, the scent of pups wafting up his nose a bit. Were there going to be more pups around? He had no idea, but something in the air felt like it, and he couldn't ignore it.
Soon he found himself outside the den, staring at Eolande and Delirium, two of Avalon's pups. He quite liked the spitfire female, Eolande, but tended to avoid the hornless lupus pups. But he knew the young male was attached to his sister at the hip, even though it was clear she didn't always appreciate the attention. Syver gave a low bark in greetings, wondering why both were up as early as he.
"Early morning stroll?" he asked, a brow cocked in question, watching the two. [/blockquote]

Eolande was sniffing the air tentatively. Before her parents had left they had taught them a bit, more so Pyke. Avalon was a terrible hunter, save in the water, and Eolande wasn't exactly fond of the cold winter's depths. So land it was, and the winter wasn't the most gracious time to find food. Delirium had his nose to the ground, trying to copy his sister with everything she did. He looked up to her in a way, Luparia as well. They had both taken a more authoritative role once their parents had vanished. His white body could have blended in nicely with the snow if it was not for his wildly coloured markings. He was a pretty interesting mix of both his parents, and his yellow eyes stood out as well. He was wandering towards her left when Eolande noticed a noise behind her. She startled slightly, turning when she heard a voice.
Lo and behold Syver stood behind them, his body towering over them both. Eolande was catching up height wise, but it was obvious the yagi was much bulkier than she. Even though he was the weakest in his litter he could still bulldoze the two other pups. Eolande stared up at him in awe for a moment, composing her thoughts. He looked so much like Ahote, save for his little socks. The thought made her giggle, considering Avalon had named them each something after they were born. She knew the three hated their nicknames, but it was still fun to tease them every now and then. Her giggle was soon muffled by a displeased look and she stared up at him, her purple eyes wide. "Liri and I were going to go do some hunting," she said cooly, as the other pup ambled over to her, sitting down beside Eolande with his white tail wagging happily behind him.
"You should join us Syver! It'll be lots of fun! Aroh taught me some neat things the last time maybe you can come and teach us too!" The thought of learning from Syver made Eolande cringe, and she snorted, her eyes narrowing slightly as she turned her attention towards the forest. She didn't need the yagi pup's help for anything, even if Delirium might think they did. He was welcome to go with Syver if he wanted, but she was under the impression she would be giving her brother a few tips. Her displeasure was extremely evident in her visage.

It was pretty evident that his appearance was only half enjoyed. Eolande seemed to regard him with cool indifference whereas Delirium was overjoyed at the opportunity to have someone else to teach him how to hunt. He wondered if that had anything to do with their obvious differences. Delirium was a lot like Avalon in a sense, hyper, naive... but Eolande held some sort of air of indifference with everyone. Syver had only ever seen her be affectionate with her sister, Luparia and Delirium, which he found utterly strange since he was a bit of a nuisance. He chalked it all up to puppyness; Delirium was still quite a bit younger than him and so he was probably just still loving life.
He let himself fall onto his rump, his small green bobbed tail resting on top of the snowy ground. Eolande was the first to answer his question, since Delirium had wandered off and he nodded in reply. "Sounds like an adventure," he said, his voice starting to become more of a low rumble than a puppy squeak. He was growing fast, and just as Eolande was beginning to grow in her horns, he was as well. Compared to Adraxxia and Aroh they were just nubs, but he was still proud of them nonetheless. Delirium's bouncing approach made a small smile flit across his lips. As annoying as the pup could be it was nice to see someone appreciated his company. Delirium seemed to speak at almost lightning speed, and as he did he noticed Eolande's expression sour.
But why should he turn down the opportunity just because some huffy female was being a pain? He regarded the hybrid with a look of curiosity and small annoyance before turning to Delirium.
"You should probably ask your sister if she'd like me to join. I don't want to interupt a sibling outing," he said, the smile back on his lips. He definitely had his father's brains and diplomacy. [/blockquote]

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] | [atrb=width,312][atrb=background,http://i55.tinypic.com/i27pqw.png] [scrolly:h(310),w(300),sy] Eolande truthfully had no harsh feelings with the yagi pups of Ahote, as jealous as she was of their size, strength and lineage. She had Avalon as a mother and Pyke as a father [or so she thought] so everything seemed to be against her. At least, in the long run, she was quite large and had her horns. She loved having them since they made her different, but the splitting headaches she got when they grew were rather troublesome. Soon though they seemed to ebb and were less painful as they were before. She was only watching out of the corner of her eye when Syver sat down, looking at the two of them. She lifted a paw, examining it, as it was much more interesting than listening to what Syver had to say. She didn't want his help. She could do fine on her own.
Delirium obviously though otherwise though and as Syver spoke, Eolande almost perked up, realising Syver wasn't planning on intruding. Her mouth was open but instead of her voice spilling out Delirium was already speaking, planting himself in front of Syver.
"Oh no no no! It would be so amazing if you would come! Wouldn't it Eo? I mean it would just be great to have you along! I wanna learn everything about hunting! I wanna be the best hunter in this pack! I mean... uh, besides you," he said, his gold eyes beaming up admiringly at Syver. Eolande's own eyes were locked on Delirium's figure, flaming with fury. How could he be so damn ignorant? She obviously didn't want the yagi pup along with them, and he didn't even give her a chance to reply! Delirium though was so enthused with the idea, his tail wagging happily behind him. He wanted so badly to be just as good as Ahote's pups and show how great a pack member he could be. He wanted to fill the shoes set before him.
His nose lifted up to Syver expectantly, hoping he would still want to come along. Eolande sighed, realising there was nothing she could do. If she told Syver he couldn't come, Delirium would be upset with her. He was already torn up enough about their parents. With another heavy sigh she turned towards the two males, her face slathered with obvious displeasure. "It's fine," she said, knowing she'd regret the words soon.

HE LEFT ME!!! Was all that was screaming through the young males head. His father had gotten up in the middle of the night, which was pretty odd. Pyke usually slept till way past sunrise. Olyvar, being curious and still trying to share a den with his dad decide to follow him sleepily into the night. The cold had woken him up enough to make him mind his distance. Maybe something was wrong and he didn't want to interfere with one of his role-model's if the pack needed defending. Truth be told, but not admitted, Olyvar had been having a string of bad luck with the border of the pack lands. The encounter with the lumen from the other day still left a bitter taste in the adolescents mouth. It had been just enough to shake his confidence, but not shatter his independence.
Much to the she-grin of Olyvar though, his father was not chasing intruders away. He was following Avalon, Olly's mother, out of the pack lands. He was too far behind to keep following, and didn't want to be reprimanded for leaving the packlands. So he just watched in disbelief as is parents walked out on him. It wasn't until sunrise that he concluded that they were not coming home anytime soon. I can't believe he left me...... He wasn't sad...he was angry.
Now he was sulking back toward the home tree, maybe he'd find Luparia and go take his mind off things. He often found that he only really liked her company as far as his siblings and the other pups went. He thought he heard her and his ears picked up. Yet when his moss green eyes found two of his siblings and one of Ahote's litter, he glared a little. Delirium bothered him. He was too much like their mother, and often the butt of mean jokes from Olyvar. Eolande was fine if she was alone, but she never was. He was also jealous of how similar she and Luparia were. And all of Ahote's litter he felt a certain bitterness toward. For the first few weeks of his puphood he found himself competing for teats. He only survived because they had already started on meat when he was born.
His ears flattened back on his head, but he at least tried to remain approachable. Maybe his siblings could take his mind of mum and dad leaving them. He wondered if they knew what had happened. It couldn't hurt to ask. So he sauntered up to his siblings. "Hey guys." He turned to address Syver, "Socks." A mean-spirited smirk crossed his pale face. Sure he was smaller than the larger male. But he was at least confident that he couldn't do anything about it. At least openly.
He looked back at the group, "What are you doing?" He glanced at his sister, her horns were weird. They seemed to glow. He was still waiting for his horns to grow, but the more he waited, the less likely it became. One more reason for him to be bitter and competitive. He had to be more clever than his siblings, and it was a task he found came to him easily. He could not say the same for his brother though. Olyvar and Delirium were destined for different things, he had decided that early on in his life. Olyvar was going to be like Pyke, or Ahote, and that meant no sucking up or begging for attention. His goal was to outrank all of his siblings...and Ahote's pups. The drive helped to inflate his confidence a little more each day.

The two horned sisters themselves were a piece of work. Syver knew that Aroh and Luparia had a bit of a strained friendship at best, but the two of them were so aloof, so absorbed in something that wasn't anyone else's... he wondered if it had to do with their appearance. Looking so different from your siblings had to be hard. There was great variance with his own siblings but it was very clear they were all related. Delirium spoke before his sister could even muster out a noise, and he watched as she turned towards them about to speak. It was pretty clear she intended to rebuke him, but Delirium spoke for them both, saying he was more than pleased to have them come with them. Syver couldn't help but feel pride swell as Delirium complimented him, trying to ignore the cold look of spite in Eolande's eyes as she glared at her brother.
He decided instead to focus his attention on the male before him, who was now lifting his nose to get his sole attention. Syver smiled a bit, lifting a paw to gently bat the pup on the nose. Her heard Eolande's displeased reply, but it was soon muffled by noises and the older male stared towards the source. The grey and green pup approached them, obviously upset about something. Syver hadn't had many run ins with Olyvar, for the sole reason he avoided the prickly pup. Syver said nothing as he greeted his siblings, but as Olyvar called him 'socks' he couldn't help but feel his hackles rise and eyes narrow. As much as he didn't mind the cute nickname Avalon had come up for him when he was a newborn, it was clearly said in spite by the younger pup. He composed himself, resisting the urge to smack the pup on the side of the head. "Olyvar," he said in reply.
Instead, just as he was sure his father would, he sat there calmly, watching the scenario unfold. Olyvar seemed to be interested in joining them, but Syver said nothing, sure that Delirium would leap at the opportunity to explain what was going on. [/blockquote]

What was she, a rabbit's tail? She had just as much authority as him, if not more. She frowned, turning her glare towards Syver now. He was too caught up in her brother now though, and even she barely noticed Olyvar's approach until Syver moved his head to look at him. She stared over at her brother, a brow lifting somewhat on her forehead. She hadn't seen him around much, he was always out there somewhere trying to best himself. She supposed it wasn't too bad a quality, and stared at Delirium for a moment. It was too bad Delirium was so playful and happy constantly.
Delirium on the otherhand was overjoyed with Syver's attention, giggling as he felt the paw come down on his nose. It was wonderful to have the older pup show some interest in him and so when Olyvar came he pouted slightly. Olyvar would want Syver all to himself, he was sure. Their brother voiced a hello and Delirium pouted a little bit, and Eolande returned it with a simple 'hey'. Eolande had to repress a snort when Olyvar addressed Syver as socks. She knew better than to call the yagi pups by their Avalonnames, as much as she wanted to sometimes, but it was funny to see Olyvar do it. The yagi pup seemed to bristle but didn't react, replying back to Olyvar politely. Hmph. She was hoping for a bit more of a rise from him.
Of course Delirium was the first to step in to answer Olyvar's question, having forgotten his previous jealousy. He swivelled to face his brother a grin lining his maw. "We were going to go hunting! Syver was gonna teach us some stuff he learned from Ahote. That way we can be awesome hunters too! Do you wanna come too Oly? It'll be lotsa fun I promise," he said as his tail whipped happily over the ground in reply.

He felt a smug sense of satisfaction when he saw Syver's reaction, little things like that he considered a victory. A slight breeze ruffled his white pelt as he looked at his siblings. He noticed Eolande's mood was similar to his own, especially in relation to Syver. Good. At least he had some family that he could stick by. His brother pouted at his arrival, that made a tinge of jealousy go over him as well. As much as he annoyed him, Delirium was his brother. Syver was not related to them. Delirium should suck up to him, not the older pup.
He sat down in the snow, brushing some of it away with his tail as he settled in. He trusted his brother would explain things, though when he mentioned Ahote and Syver hunting together that made his own eyes narrow. He liked Ahote, and he tried to get his attention. But he always figured that he was more special than Ahote's own. His selfish nature made him think he was the top dog, why couldn't other wolves see him as what he was? Awesome. "You don't need Syver to show you everything. Ahote and I killed a badger together, you know? So he's not the only one that can hunt...." He gave the yagi male a glance, as if trying to one-up him. It would always be a competition with other males. Sure the truth of the story was that Ahtoe saved Olyvar from a badger attack, but those details didn't need to come to light. They were both there and the badger was no longer there because of him and Ahote. Therefore...they killed it.
His own hunting skills were being polished, he had not quite made a kill on his own yet. He had caught a few things, but they managed to escape. Maybe if he was going to join them, Syver's knowledge could be useful. Not that he would ever admit it. "But, I guess we are in the same pack." He crouched down and went into a play bow toward Delirium, his tail high and wagging slightly " Bet you wanna see what he can catch? Huh Liri?" A slight sneer crossed his face, making it seem like this was all Delirium's idea.

At least someone appreciated his presence and so Syver focused his attention on Delirium, ignoring the two testy pups around him. Whatever their spat was, he had done nothing wrong and so it was not a burden for him to bear. There was no crime in being friendly and if the two siblings wanted to mock and jeer at him, then that was their perogative. The abrupt arrival though steered Delirium's attention away from Syver, and he too seemed to share a moment of disappointment. Syver merely sat comfortly on his haunches, watching the interaction between them, speaking nothing quite yet. Delirium explained what they were doing, and Olyvar seemed absolutely disturbed by this fact. The assertion of this was clearly not what Olyvar wanted to hear and he quickly voiced his concern.
The lupus' words made Syver almost smile a little bit. The pup was being petty and jealous. It was easy enough for Syver to figure out what to say to counteract Olyvar's derogatory statement. "Congratulations Olyvar, it's not everyday one brings down a badger. It is wonderful to know that we have someone so brave to help defend us. Perhaps you can tell us of this encounter as we go looking for something to hunt?" he asked, figuring it would be better to play into the situation than add gas to a fire. He knew the lupus was only trying to get a rise from him and so that was the exact opposite of what Syver would do. Instead he smiled pleasantly, his paws splaying out on the snow.
He seemed to be okay with the idea of him coming along though but Syver said nothing more after Olyvar spoke. The words were more directed at his siblings rather than himself, and so he would let them sort it out alone. Syver was just there to be Olyvar's scapegoat and punching bag, and since he knew that Delirium couldn't take it, and Eolande wouldn't take it, he sat there letting the male talk him down. Both of their parents were friendly, though Pyke was a bit mischievous at times. Olyvar seemed to be so angry, and for a second she thought herself a hypocrite. She felt the same way, almost always peeved about something. But Olyvar's emotions manifested in a way that Eolande's did not. Perhaps she was a silent brooder while he voiced his annoyance. Either way, it puzzled her to an extent as she listened to him goade on Syver. She didn't really care for either of them, but she was more loyal to her own sibling than the alpha's pup. She didn't know of Olyvar's hunting a badger; Pyke would have been proud she was sure. Delirium though gasped in delight, changing his attention to Olyvar. "Wow you caught a badger! That's soooo cool." Olyvar had sort of mastered hunting rabbits, at least with Eolande's help. The two of them had cornered a few, and with Eolande quick footing she was able to drive them into Liri's path. It would be neat to take down something bigger, something vicious, he thought.
"I bet Syver can catch a bear! We can help too! It'll be a great adventure! You're big and so are bears so it will be okay. And you can use your pointy horns to stab at it. Right Oly, right?" The suggestion seemed reasonable, if not genius to the male lupus, whose tail waggled happily behind him as he looked up at his sister for her approval. Instead her purple eyes were wide, and she suddenly rose from where she was sitting. She knew telling the two off was now a bad idea. Olyvar would convince Delirium it was a great idea, Syver would go along with it to please the two pups... she could already see the whole thing unfolding in her mind and it was not going to unfold well.
So she played into it. "If we're going bear hunting we should probably get one of the adults to help. Just for pointers, you know. Always good to have a few more eyes..." She hoped Olyvar and Syver would take the bait, as Delirium was now in his own little world, growling and fantasizing about hunting a bear.

His steely gaze flashed back to Syver. Maybe that brute was smarter than he looked. He didn't like being patronized by his peers. He sat back up from the play pose and looked down at his brother. "Yeah I did. It smelled like nothing you could imagine, it was gross. She came barreling out of of the thicket once we found her and BAM, we took her down." He turned his shoulder so that he was not looking directly at Syver, he would have to find a way around the passive aggressiveness of his yagi milk mate.
Maybe he did secretly look up to the yagi male, but that would never come out of his mouth. So instead he looked at his bouncy brother. Then up to his sister. She was practical, but Olyvar liked jokes. He didn't think that he would get away with making fun of Delirium this time though. So he shrugged his shoulders back and put on a haughty face, "Yeah...bears, I think they are sleeping because it is cold outside. We might need an adult that knows how they smell." He nodded, showing he conceded with his sister on the front of bear hunting. Plus, in the event that Syver COULD find a bear, he didn't want to be around for the yagi to finally rub something in his face.
