OOC Information OOC Name: Fyre Link to Previous Character: n/a
General Name: Inth Alias: - Species: Kukkien Gender: Male Age: 1 year Pack: Loner Rank: n/a
Physical Height: 25” Weight: 55lbs Appearance: Inth is relatively short of limb and stocky of build, but his long, flowing fur makes up for any inelegance this might otherwise cause in his movement. With this silky coat rippling from his back and belly and flying out behind each leg, Inth appears to flow across rough terrain like a short river of green-tinted silver. The green comes from the many mosses and lichens that have latched themselves onto the tips of his pale grey fur, streaking it with vibrant growth and blending into the fungi and grasses which populate the darker fur of his mane. When the sunlight streams down from behind him, the translucent grasses in Inth’s mane glow like backlit stained glass, giving him a halo of slender green flames. Longest just behind his ears, the dark grey-brown fur and grasses diminish in height and thickness towards his luxuriant, spreading silver-flecked tail. Puff balls and other small mushrooms spot his mane, clustering along his gently sloping neck and down behind his jawline to the soft, pale fur on his chest. With the darkest, most brown-tinged fur on his back, Inth’s underside is strikingly pale, his paws and nose fading to dull brown, as though they’ve been dipped in coffee. The dark grey mask of his face makes Inth’s brilliant green eyes glow all the more vibrantly, his pale cheeks giving him a permanently amiable look above the soft slope of his muzzle and gentle, fur-fuzzed jaw. Other: Despite his stocky build, in combat, Inth is not so much strong as clumsy, although his fluid dexterity in traversing the forest environs to which he is accustomed is a delight to watch.
Mental Strengths: - Dexterity in running/climbing - Enthusiasm and interest in just about everything pushes him to increase the breadth of his experience and often lessens what might otherwise be crippling fear. - Intense curiosity in the world allows him to absorb information at lightning speed, as long as he’s interested by it. - Intelligence/empathy with those he is currently resonating with. - Able to look after himself without the aid of others. - Ability to cut off from things that trouble him and retreat into himself.
Weaknesses: - Clumsiness in combat - Often rushes into situations without fully thinking them through - Short attention span leads to quick leaps between subjects of interest (including other wolves) and often prevents him from understanding things in full depth. - Inability to understand/connect with more than a couple of wolves at any one time. - Needs others and yet is exhausted by interaction with them (makes pack life particularly stressful and difficult) - Propensity for emotional and mental overload as he tries to over-empathise with whichever wolf is currently fascinating him and take on their cares and joys as well as his own.
Personality: Inth is solitary by nature, a true introvert in that the company of others exhausts him and time alone gives him rest. However, his overwhelming curiosity leads him to seek the friendship of others, become nigh on obsessed with each new acquaintance he makes, absorbing their personality and studying them until his attention flicks onto something else, be that another wolf or a new species of butterfly or lichen. When he first meets someone new he often comes across as almost ebulliently confident, though once his initial rush of enthusiasm and interest has worn off he becomes shy and awkward until he knows more about them. Gradually he begins to resonate with his new friend to a deeper and deeper degree, until he feels almost total empathy with them, taking their blows as his own and experiencing the full satisfaction of their joys. Once this stage has been reached, he seems suddenly to lose interest, having plumbed the wells of information available from this wolf, and will move on as easily as a bee flitting from flower to flower. Like a bee loading up with pollen, however, these intense friendships leave their burdens of exhaustion on Inth. He can only sustain a few in close succession before he must run away to be by himself for a while and rest his weary brain. Until he gets bored again of course! Young as he still is, although gaining experience as fast as any of his kind, Inth is prone to rushing into things without appropriate forethought and is frequently carried away by his own enthusiasm. Loveable as these traits are, they will almost certainly get him into trouble in the long run!
History: The pack was not over-large, but neither was it small. Consisting of ten adults and one pup, it was in fact the perfect size. Or so the pack members felt, and said often among themselves.
The adults of the pack were mostly cousins, with one or two sibling pairs. Having travelled the forests together for so many years, the group had developed an easy, open companionship. Few words were spoken, and few were needed. The pack was held together by a blanket of comfortable silence, which wrapped itself around and between each member, holding each secure in the knowledge that every other wolf was content in this solitary company. Sometimes, a passionate relationship might form for a time between two of the pack. This might merely be a sudden renewal of family bonds between siblings, and the pair would be inseparable for a week or two and then drift on their separate ways within the group. The hierarchy being as relaxed as it was in this pack, these fluctuations rarely caused discord, although occasionally they had unforeseen consequences.
The pup was one of these. A fluffy ball of distraction and excitement, the pup bumbled around the paws of his mother, yipping incessantly at butterflies, flower petals, and just about anything that caught his eye. Amused and fascinated to the point of obsession, his mother doted on him for a whole month, with barely a moment when the two were not together and she was not fussing over her offspring. This sort of attention, however, proved to be exhausting for the mother. After a month, she handed the pup over to her cousin, seeing him only for feeds. His aunt doted on him as much as his mother had done, but again her energies could not sustain such an intensity of emotion for more than a month. The pup was passed on again.
He pup grew quickly, as Kukkien do, and was named Inth, after his father’s father. His temperament showed clear signs from an early age of following the pattern set for him by his pack. He formed attachments in the blink of an eye, and dropped them as quickly and with as little fuss. Each month he received a new parent, as doting at the former one and with as short an attention span. Becoming more and more tired of the constant fussing, Inth followed the example of the others in the group and took to wandering off alone for as much as a day at a time, finding peace and relaxation in solitude that could not be had while stuck to the side of an over-protective guardian. One day, when each of the pack had loved and grown tired of the little pup in their midst, Inth wandered off as usual, and forgot completely that he was meant to return home.
At the age of ten months now, Inth found interest in everything he saw. Unable to choose what to focus on, he moved from one fascination to the next with the speed, quite literally, of thought. One moment he was examining a glistening leaf, the next he had fallen head over heels in love with the fluttering flash of a bird’s wings. He followed streams because they sparkled and climbed trees because they were dull. For two months he lived from second to second, interest to interest, alone and happy in the forest that had always been his home. At night he would curl up to sleep between the mossy roots of a big tree, or in a hole by the riverbank, or perched on a branch high above the forest floor, looking for all the world like an owl that had flown up there and found itself miraculously transformed into a young wolf with grass already sprouting along his spine.
Inth has now turned one year. He is grown up, and thinking once more about other wolves. What might they be like? How do they work? What marvelous experiences might their company have in store for him? We can but wait and see…
