The sun beat down harshly on Ceru as she walked along the seemingly endless desert. Wind threw sand into her face, making it harder and harder to see. Heat made her pant, breathing in breaths of dry air. Ceru looked around and swallowed dryly, hoping to see water. She didn't know how she had gotten here, but it was quite different from the sand at Y'vit cove. Ceru had wandered aimlessly around for hours, trying to find shelter from the intense heat. It was so hot that the sand wavered ahead of her, gleaming like water.
Ceru looked around. There was almost no sign of plant life anywhere. She then stared blankly out into the distance, moving off again. Just one step after the other, She thought. One step, after the other will get me toward my goal. There was no oaisis, but Ceru had to keep on believing that there was. Her eyes started to close. The world was wavery. Then Ceru fell over onto the sand. Blissful darkness.
Ceru awoke to the sound of.....Nothing. The desert was quiet. Too quiet. She sat up and sneezed. Again, plants had grew around her in her sleep. Instead of just leaving them there, she took a mouthful of them and ate the juiciest. That soothed her throat. A little. She licked her lips and looked for more plants. Soon she came upon a small cave. A burrow, perhaps? Ceru thought. Ceru climbed down into it, thankful for the blissful shade from the blistering sun.
The den was dark. Ceru felt the darkness refreshing. She didn't have to worry about the sun here. All she had to do is wait. Wait for night. Yes, I'll wait for the darkness to come. Then I'll walk away. One step after the other. Like before. After the other.
