Eris was walking in the tundra of the mountains. Such a beautiful place, He thought. The quiet beauty and serenity gave him an idea for a story. That's when he started muttering. "A long, long time ago, when wolves and birds could talk to each other, there lived a wolf and a mockingbird. They both had great talent. The wolf could tell the best of tales, and the mockingbird had the best voice in the forest. The wolf knew of the mockingbird's voice, and he wished to hear her. So he created a song to sing to her."
|
Eris thought for a while, and the howled the song, his voice low and melodious. "I'll tell you a story if you sing me a song, You'll be able to hear me from distances long.
Sing me a song and I'll tell you a story, Come reveal yourself to me, in all your stunning glory.
Please spread your wings and fly through the air, and halfway through I will meet you there. Eris stopped, about to sing more, when he realized that anyone in the tundra would've heard him. Eris's voice trailed off, the snow bouncing it back and forth, echoing. The white wolf stood uncertainly in the snow. That song he had thought up out of the top of his head, but to others it may have sounded like a howl to bring them to him. He blinked his purple/blue eyes. What was he going to do now? He lay down in the snow, waiting. He didn't like the cold of it against his body, and he quickly stood up again. He used some of his element to warm his body, and soon his fur had dried from the wetness of the snow. He shook himself, fluffing out his fur, and he was restored to his former, fluffy self. The snow melted against his paw pads, making very deep, water-filled footprints. Eris sat down on a patch of land not covered by snow, suddenly tired. It took some energy to use your element, even if it was something as simple as warming up. The wind kicked up, ruffling Eris's fur and showing his green undercoat. He yawned, laying back down and he licked the snow off of his paws. His breath melted the snow even before his tongue made contact. He shook his paws, sending small droplets of water everywhere. For a moment, he felt at peace, but soon he started to worry. What if someone had came? Eris would just have to sit and wait. As the moderately fast-paced river babbled on, so did her prey, whining, bleating, but all in vain. Her swift jaws put and end to it's cries and swallowed the jugular and fur that came with it. The dancing light left it's black eyes, leaving only a dullness, a sort of boringness, that marked those who had passed on from this world and onto the next. Hot blood seeped from it's gash and made a small puddle around the opening.
She felt strangely lucky today. She stood beside a stream that had not frozen over yet, with cool, spring water. And she stood over a fresh kill, decent in size, and tantalizing to the nose, a luxurious meal for a wolf and a half. Nothing could brighten her spirits more than the taste of juicy fresh meat on an empty stomach.
Goats were the one of the few species that gave birth in the winter time, and they had been unfortunate - their kid was born crippled, but highly vocal. They seemed to know it too, and had simply abandoned it to the wild. She had watched the birth from the cover of underbrush; to tell the truth, it was quite disgusting. The mother seem entranced as she struggled, and the father possessed, as he strode around his wife-in-labor in impatient, angry circles, guarding her in her highly vulnerable state from the likes of ones such as herself. He was too large for her to take on, so she had laid patiently in wait. When the mother refused to feed her newborn, rejecting it in unspoken words, Ani knew that her waiting had paid off. They rested, and then left the woolly, sticky thing to die, and the birds to claim the afterbirth. Such a shame, to carry around a child in one's womb for so long that is destined only to die. It was at times like these that Ani wondered if Nature herself was pleased with her, and rewarded her, her deadly and respectable wolven creation.
The slightest sound reached her ears. They swiveled instantly towards the location, and her head rose to look in that direction. She spread her legs and dug into the ground with her claws. A low growl emitted itself, and the fur on her back rippled and raised itself much like a porcupine. There was no way this kill was escaping her possession.
Then she spotted her traveling companion. Her body relaxed and she sat to watch him. "Hey! You! I caught Dinner!"

OCC: Sorry about this incredibly short post. Muse has gone for a vacation. [atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,false][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,450,true] | [atrb=background,http://fotos.fotoflexer.com/4e68c28fcfb86f34b1e0e2acfe2ad0d5.jpg]
Eris spun around to see the wraith wolf, the one called Animana. He ran over to her, stopping a couple of feet away, his paws sending sand everywhere.
He snorted and said, "My name isn't "Hey, You." It's...."
|
Eris stopped, realizing that he still hadn't figured out his name. "Never mind that. Anyway, at least try to address me by my other self's name, Gyre. At least until I figure out what my name is. He shuffled the ground with his paw. Was she still mad about what Gyre did to her? "Um, look. I'm really sorry about what happened back there. I couldn't control Gyre. He-" Eris looked away. "You wouldn't understand. I apologize. Will you forgive me?" Eris knew that Gyre did the unforgivable. She may hate Gyre, but could she forgive Eris? Eris knew that there was a chance that she would think that Gyre was just an made-up excuse for what he did, but how else would he explain? Oh, Yeah. I lost all of my memories one day and I have two selves. That would go over well. [/blockquote]

Ani looked at her paws as he ran over. "Sorry Gyro." She had taken to calling him Gyro instead of Gyre. She didn't understand why she had given him a pet name. She was starting to enjoy having him about. Maybe that was it. She turned her gaze away and narrowed her eyes. "Well, I caught dinner anyways."
Then he asked her something. She turned her gaze to him and smiled. Something she hardly did now-a-days. "Forgive you? Which side of you?" she asks warmly. She turned her gaze to her catch. After meeting Circus and Jackle, anything could be true. Multiple personalities? She believed it.

Eris sighed in relief. It felt as if a giant weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. Many days he had been up all night worrying about Ani. He then realized that he actually cared for this wolf's feelings. "Forgive Gyre. He said he's sorry as well."
|
Eris looked at the goat. He licked his lips. "Hmm. Goat. I've never tried it before." Eris wondered what Ani was doing in the tundra, but he didn't bother to ask. Instead he just sat down, keeping his feet warm with his tail. He had heard the bleat of the goat earlier, but he didn't really think much of it. There was always the scream of some animal, hoofed or clawed. Eris didn't mind death as much as he used to. When he created his other self, Gyre, he became much more confident. Gyre had changed him, but inside Eris was still Eris. He didn't fear death, for as long as he isn't the one dying. He could care less about the life of others besides his own kind. Eris's ears went back as the wind pushed them. He licked some snow off of his side, frowning as he felt his scar. How did I get this? He wondered. He narrowed his eyes as he saw how large it was, stretching from his shoulder to his flanks, a jagged tear in his body. It was a shade paler than his skin, making it more noticeable in the sunlight than in the shade. He shook himself, ruffling his fur and hiding the scar from Ani. He looked back over to her and smiled, twitching his tail once. [/blockquote]

A week had gone, the shadow wolf was looking very much like a skeleton now. No sleep, no rest, no stops and no food. She had gone rapidly down in weight, her fur was scruffy and sick looking, the worst was the pain, she had refused to treat her wound, she had nearly bit her leg in anger - she had cut it while running along the mountains, the gash she had got from nearly falling, it had swollen up and was now infected, it hurt in pulses,
Ani felt warm, she knew she probably had a fever, but her mind, legs and heart was keeping her going. She had been taking care of three wolves now, but did they know that? She needed life force and her friends were how she got it, but she never took enough to affect them. But Ani hated doing this to Eris. The she-shadow nudges the prey to him and stand sorely.
"All yours. I don't eat this kind of food."
Ani wags her tail faintly at his words and looks him in his eyes. She chooses her wording carefully. ”Gyro, Gyro, Gyro!” she laughed the name almost teasingly. She looked wicked as she spoke now. ”Why would I be mad, darling Gyro? Enlighten me! Why would I be mad?” Her eyes flicked mischievously.
Ani waved her bushy tail and strode away a few feet before laying down. Why did her walking still hurt? Ani licked her wounded leg clean and sighed. It would heal with time and she hated waiting.

Gyre understood what Ani was going through. But what he didn't understand was the sickness. She smelled of infection. Instinctively Gyre leaned away from her. He didn't understand what she was talking about. Mad as in angry? But for some reason, he kept on thinking that she was talking about insanity........
"Well, for certain, my mistress, you would be steaming mad if I left you again. I would be the same if you left me. We are at a understanding there. But, why would you be mad as in insane? I have no idea. Ani, your fever has gotten the best of you."
|
Gyre smiled. Ani would possibly feel the madness that he sometimes got. Eris would never be able to sympathize. Sometimes Gyre wished that Eris would just back down and let his other self rule. After all, evil is best in times like this. Let the Wicked rule supreme. Back in the depths of his mind, Eris was fuming. How dare Gyre take over with a comment like that! Gyre felt almost joyous at the thought of Ani joining the ranks of the insane. He felt slightly confused. Was this wolf already mad? Or did she just turn from the fever? He never once thought that Ani wasn't insane. He couldn't let doubt take down his victory. But a victory over what? Gyre's mind was twisted and it didn't make any sense. Gyre hadn't won or lost anything. Eris was as confused as anyone else would be if they had access to Gyre's mind. He was more worried about the cut on her leg, and the sickness underneath....... Ani looked dead at Gyre and laughed bitterly. "Madness is all in the heart.. In the mind. Infection, loss, sorrow, and even love can bring the madness we all have to the top," she retorts and licks her wound again.
She sighed, "Besides. What does madness even mean? Is the wolf we call mad or even crazy really the mad one? Or are we all mad and just don't know it. So we call the few normal wolves mad?"
Ani met his gaze once more and smirked inwardly. Her words were that of madness, caused by her fever. Yet, she felt sane. Normal as can be. The best part is, she felt free.

Gyre nodded. He understood Ani's words deeply, even though he knew it was probably the fever talking. He was amused and troubled by what she was saying, and it scared him. He had never felt things like this so deeply. "Yes, yes, but mad or not mad, you have to get that wound treated."
|
He jerked his head in the direction of her cut. "How did you get that cut, anyway?" He was curious. The cut seemed recent, and to get an infection that fast she had to be in a hot place when she got the cut. Gyre had met Ani not too long ago in the canyon, so he guessed that she must have cut herself sometime in that area. Something troubled Gyre more than the surprising truth of Ani's words. He actually cared about what happened to this black wolf. He had never really felt anything towards others, and this feeling was new. It would tear him apart if she passed away from this wound. Was it possible? Did he actually.....like Ani? Even though she might not feel the same way towards Gyre, he felt obliged to help this wolf through her fever. Yes, finally Gyre had a purpose, no matter how small. He would help Ani until her fever reduces. Then, as much as it pained him to do so, he would melt away, into the shadows, and be no more. Ani turned her head towards the male and grinned crookedly. Her eyes more foggy than they should be. The black she-wolf tilted her head as he looked at her. She was trying hard to fight the fever. To drive it all out of her. She hated that it was making her see the world as it is. As it should be.
The living shadow took note of the amusement, clouded by fear. Was he worried about her? Was she seeing things? The Lumen decided she was seeing things. She stood and laughed wickedly. It lasted a moment before she was down. The pain clear in her eyes.
"But.. How?" she asks as she glares up at him. She wanted it to end. It hurt so darn bad! Her gaze flicked to her wound. "I was running in the mountains. Slipped and cut it on a stone. Then I came to find you," she forgot about the canyon. She forgot a lot of things.
Ani felt her tail wag as her deep hidden kindness slipped into the light. The one white fur gleamed as she looked at him now. "Can you treat it?"
She winced as pain hit her again. She then rolled to her side. The looks of defeat in her eyes.

OCC: I'm going to move Gyre to Y'vit cove in search of the Elder sprout, if that's okay. I'll make a thread with your name.
Gyre almost laughed as he saw the one white hair in the tip of Ani's tail. It made her seem more....wolf, instead of the shadow that she seems to be. But soon that small amount of humor died out, for it was replaced by more worry. How could he heal her? There wasn't any plants for fevers, but there is one plant called the Elder sprout that might numb the wound until Gyre could get her to a wolf with medical knowledge. There is a very little chance of finding a Elder sprout, for it is very rare. Then, of course, it only grows in the warm places, which will possibly speed up the infection. Gyre was torn. If only he could find a medicine wolf near the Elder sprouts, she might have a chance. Gyre looked over at Ani.
"We will have to try and find one of the only solutions. I have no medical experience, but I do know that the Elder sprout will ease the pain. It's a gamble, but hopefully we might meet a wolf who knows a bit about infected wounds. We'll have to go to the easiest place to find the plant, which happens to be Y'vit cove. I'll try to make sure that you aren't in too much pain while we travel."
|
Gyre looked around for something to use as a temporary cast to support Ani's leg. He looked over at the goat. Perfect. He would make a cast out of a bone to support her leg, and wrap the goat's skin around her leg to stop bleeding and further infection. He walked over to the goat, ripping it apart and taking the skin off delicately. He tore off a good piece, and lay it in the snow. Then he skinned the leg and tried to clean it off as good as possible. Then he tried to use the sinew from the goat's leg to tie the skin to the bone. It was weak, but it would hold for the duration. He washed off the skin by licking off the blood, then washing it in the snow. Eris put some ice inside the makeshift cast to cool Ani's wound. He walked towards her. Would she let him put it on? Ani knew the look on Gyro's face. He was trying not to laugh. She didn't know at what though. She then remembered the one white hair. Her face went cold and she turned to hide it in the shadows. Then, her face softened. He looked worried about her. She blinked in awe at this. Why did he even care? She wondered what he was thinking. Was he really worried about healing her, or was he plotting her death? He seemed to have finished his thought, for a moment. Ani blinked and tilted her head. Her red and pink eyes fixed on him now. She knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to save her. But why? She suddenly lost focus and yelped. Pain shooting up her leg. She turned and moved the leg away from the small lizard like creature. Her eyes flashing in annoyance. She suddenly snapped. Her good paw pinning the lizard. Forcing it to look into her eyes. The lizard was more of a baby ice dragon. It screamed and she looked into its eyes. A faint light passed between the wolf and the struggling dragon baby. Soon, the dragons struggling slowed until it was dead at her paws. She didn't look starved now. Her eyes met Gyro's and her head tilted as he spoke.
"Solutions? You want to help me? I trust you enough to go with you." She watched him as he came closer to tend her leg. She moved it so he could reach it easier.

Gyre moved closer to Ani. He tied the cast around her leg using his teeth."Of Course I want to help you. After all, you are a......"
|
Gyre stopped, unsure of what to call her. A friend. And friends help each other, at least that's how I think that's how it goes. But still, It looks like a bumpy road ahead of us. Now let's go. Gyre tried to help Ani to her feet. He saw the little ice dragon, dead. His eyes widened. Why did she do that? At any time, the mother can notice one of her hatchlings gone and decide to get revenge. Gyre didn't say anything though, for he didn't want to alarm Ani. She seemed almost stronger now, though. Gyre couldn't explain it. Then he realized. Ani was a Lumen. She just took its life force. Gyre shook his head. They needed to get away. Fast. Possibly the mother had already noticed it gone and is searching for it. Anything is possible. Gyre growled under his breath. Mother dragons would go a long way to get revenge. A very, long, way. The stakes were higher now. [/blockquote]

Ani felt him move closer. Her gaze blurred, but fixed on him. She felt the cast around her leg and whimpered faintly. It hurt to get her leg tended, or touched. Yet, he was only trying to help her, so she just smiled faintly. She couldn't wait to have her old nature back.
"That is nice of you. Not something I would expect." When he paused her head tilted. She was a what? The question was answered soon enough.
"So.. We are friends? I'm glad to hear that. You are right. Friends help each other out. Bumpy? How so?" She fell silent as he said lets go.
She stood with his help. Her strength seemed to be back. Though the pain was still clear in her eyes. She followed his gaze to the dead dragon.
She saw his eyes widen and blinked. What was bothering him? He seemed to wonder something. She couldn't tell what though.
It dawned on her that she had killed a baby dragon. The mother could get mad. "Sorry.. It was nibbling on my leg.. And I was hungry," she mutters.
Ani wagged her tail faintly. He shook his head and Ani moved off towards the beach. Wandering slowly and yet determinedly along.
