A silver fish jumped from its watery dwelling, its shiny scales flashing in the sun. Its large eye flickered in its socket as it looked around the dryer world that was so unfamiliar to it. Its tail wiggled sideways quickly before it followed the body before it, disappearing under the currents again. High above this river the fish swam in, towered colorful canyons. Dominant and powerful, these gorges were rich oranges, dull reds, lined with faded browns. These canyons extended upward, forever stretching in the sun of their lands. They were a home to the brave and the ones with a sure foot, and a mortal danger to the novices of unpredictable rock. Two of the latter, two young wolves, carefully made their way up a canyon’s sides. One was round and mostly dark blue and black, who would say his name was Shadowklyps. The other was a thinner wolf, light blue and purple, who would tell you his name was Morbydyv.
“Shadow!” Morbyd’s blue eyes fearfully flickered from his paws, the edge of the chasm, and the ground far below. He shut his eyes tight, feeling a little dizzy, and leaned against the wall of the cliff. He shuddered, his large ears flattening against his head. His eyes opened finally, his pupils dilated in extreme fright. “Could you please slow down?” He watched his darker friend happily step up another rock with a laugh. Shadow was doing this so easily, running up the elevated stone. If he was scared, he sure wasn’t showing it. Shadow slowed down when he reached the landing, turning back to look at Morbyd. Morbyd wrinkled up his face in fear and nausea as he threw another glance down over the edge. He pulled his front paws in and lowered his head. He’d go into a fetal position and suck his thumb if he could. He was no skilled climber in any way, and one of his nervous paws could easily send him over the edge. Why? Why did he always get himself in situations that always made his fur stand on end? How did he get himself into this?
Well, past his terrible memory, Morbyd did remember that sometime after Shadow and Morbyd had run with Tiatsu Keeper to find something to eat, they started to go their separate ways. Morbyd didn’t want to go by himself again, but he wasn’t sure if either of the other two wanted him to tag along. Tiatsu immediately took to the skies, leaving him with Shadow. Shadow asked him nicely if he wanted to travel with him. Of course Morbyd said yes. And they were off.
But from the prairie to the canyons? How’d they do that?

Shadow walked across the rocky canyon with ease. The warm rocks under his feet felt some-what welcoming. Despite the stories he’d heard about the place, he hadn’t ran into anything that had given him any reason to be afraid. “Shadow!” he heard his friend, Morbyd, call. “Could you please slow down?” That was the same question he had been asking Shadow for as long as he could remember. The last couple of times, Shadow did, as asked, slow down. But he would soon pick up the same pace as moments before. Morbyd hadn’t been able to catch up no matter how slow Shadow went. His off-balanceness wouldn’t allow it.
At this thought, Shadow took a last step, laughing to himself. He started walking again when he saw his friend getting closer to him. Though the thought of how high they were and the possibility of falling did frighten him, the scenery of the place kept him going. His steps slowed as the rock came to an end. Shadow looked down the edge of the cliff to the rock floor before turning back to Morbyd. He couldn’t help but laugh again when his friend lowered to the ground, pulling his front paws in.
“Aw, come on, Morbyd! It’s just a little bit of heights!” Shadow stared at his friend for some sort of agreement. He’d hate to say it, but his friend looked really pathetic. It wasn’t that bad. Morbyd was just a little frightened. So, he decided to go onto the other side. He looked over to the other side at all the ledges sticking out from the side. He chose the closest one to the side he was currently on and started backing up. He looked at his friend and knew that he would, reluctantly, follow.

“Aw, come on, Morbyd! It’s just a little bit of heights!”
If that was what Shadow thought, then he knew nothing. These canyons were not just a little bit of heights. They were crazy, wild, skyscrapers of Hell, jutting from the Earth and grazing the big blue overhead. Morbyd’s fur was bristling to the extreme – he now resembled an angry, spiky cat of some sort. Despite the obvious signs of Morbyd’s distress, Shadow laughed and leapt the rest of the way to the top of the canyon, disappearing.
“Shadow!” Morbyd shivered in fear. “Don’t just leave me like that! Get back here! I--” Thought filled Morbyd’s head at one time and screamed at him. Go after him! Hurry up! How could he do that? Don’t leave me, don’t leave me, DON’T LEAVE ME! “N-no! Wait!” Morbyd’s urge to follow Shadow, his mind-fixed refusal never to be left alone, was strong. So strong, he bolted up the rock, whining loudly. His paws scratched at the stone senselessly and he almost crashed right into Shadow. He gasped as he pushed his rump down, halting himself – he could’ve sent his friend over the edge. “Shadow…” Morbyd’s ears rose swiftly as his bright eyes locked onto the round wolf. He stepped closer to the boundary of the canyon, next to his buddy. “Don’t you ever do that again!” His voice shook with anger, but near the end of his shout, it cracked with fear. Prominently. Like, it squeaked. He froze. Did…I just make that sound? Morbyd smiled at the thought, and his tail began to wag with amusement.

“Shadow!” he heard Morbyd yell after him. “Don’t just leave me like that!” Geez, he sounded like some girl that just lost her boyfriend. The thought made Shadow giggle, but he didn’t stop running. He knew Morbyd didn’t like to be left alone, so he’d catch up one way or another. “Get back here!” All of Shadow’s laughter had him practically falling over rocks. He sat down on the rocks underneath him after stopping in front of yet another one of the canyon’s edges. Not long after, the sound of frantic running and whining met his ears. He turned around and saw his friend running up to him, stopping only inches away from him.
To Shadow, Morbyd looked like he just went through the scariest thing in his life. But at least he was up here, right? “Shadow…” he said firmly. At first, Shadow thought he would surely yell at him for running off like that. But the mood in his voice quickly changed. “Don’t you ever do that again!” Shadow knew he was being serious, but he couldn’t help but laugh at the way Morbyd’s voice squeaked at the end of his sentence. He smiled, his tail swishing behind him as he got up. “Sorry Morbyd, didn’t know you were so afraid of heights…” he said, touching his muzzle to his friend’s. It was meant to be more of a teasing statement. But he guessed it was whatever Morbyd thought it was. If he couldn’t tell…even better. “But look, you made it! Pretty brave of you to follow if you ask me.”
“Pretty brave of you to follow if you ask me…” Silhouette said, looking at his brother. “Really?” Shadow asked. He didn’t think he could actually do it. They were a little far from home and it was getting late… Shadow remembered that day. His parents told him to stay with the rest of the pack but his brother always teased him about being a goody-goody-two shoes. He shook the memory away, realizing that he had been looking off. He turned his attention back to his friend. “You wanna rest for a while or do you want to keep going?"

Morbyd smiled as Shadow laughed at his pathetic little squeak. His ears perked up and he let out a little huff as Shadow tapped at his purple muzzle with his own. He playfully licked at Shadow’s before he pulled back. Morbyd caught that little thing about Shadow not knowing he was afraid of heights. Did he not see him shivering in fear and crying like a puppy?!? But then Shadow called him brave for making it up to the top. That’s when it all went to Morbyd’s head. He swayed on his unsure feet like a coy female.
“Really?” He smiled. “Brave? It was nothin’!” Morbyd snickered, almost not hearing Shadow ask for his opinion on rest. Morbyd sneezed, stumbling a bit. “Kah!” His eyes widened with the force of the action. He shook his head. “Of course we can rest. I’d rather, I mean…” He looked around. “We’ve been walking for a while, y’know?”
He slowly walked over to Shadow and carefully curled up at his side, his blue eyes looking up at his friend, sparkling. He hoped Shadow would get his drift – he wanted to sleep next to him. -------------------------- OOC: Title Credits --- Closer to the Edge, by 30 Seconds to Mars Author's Notes: Morby's so gay --------------------------

Shadow almost didn’t here Morbyd sneeze, until he went over in his head how he almost fell backward. “Bless you,” he said. “Of course we can rest.” Morbyd stated when he finally balanced. “I’d rather, I mean.” He looked around. Shadow studied the area as well. He wasn’t sure how much longer he was going to be able to wander through empty space, anyway. “We’ve been walking for a while, y’know?” “Yeah. You’re right.” Morbyd walked up to Shadow, lying down beside his feet, and looked at him. Shadow looked down at his friend. He could take a hint. He laid down beside Morbyd, his side warming up instantly with the company of the blue fur. He laid his head and a paw on Morbyd’s back. “That was on heck of a sneeze you took there, Morb.” He said. He couldn’t hold back the laughter that came afterward.
“Sorry I ran off on you back there,” Shadow apologized. “It was the only way to get you to keep going.” And it worked, Shadow noted. “I’ll choose a more ‘sensible’ way next time.”
