She wasn't exactly sure what was happening to her.
She was out for a walk when a sudden, sharp, nearly murderous pain shot through her swollen midsection. It took a few moments of moaning while laying upon the ground to realize exactly what was about to occur.
"Oh no..." Girafi groaned, struggling to her paws, "Not here... not now..." Trying to ignore the pain, the Sennyo attempted to make her way towards where she hoped the rest of her yet to be properly established pack was. However, the convulsions were beginning to be to strong, and she had to lay down in the light snow, crying.
When she'd asked for heirs, perhaps she should have asked for them without pain!

He was following her, the great work clamped delicately in his mouth. Oh yes, Adriane had worked hard on the Empress's circlet. He'd found the proper metals, worked the designs for weeks until he was satisfied, and even, albeit grudgingly, worked Girafi's purple gem in there. And now it was beautiful. Elegant, graceful lines of silver intertwined throughout the headpiece. Smaller lines of gold followed, and he'd even made a little surprise- there were tiny, beautiful butterflies worked into it. It had taken him ages to properly shape them, and he was quite pleased with the result. Their features were the most intricate thing he'd ever done. All in all, the work was delightful. Even the amethyst that Girafi had provided him with.
And now, he was tracking the beautiful Empress. Where was she? Just walking, eh? Ok! He'd find her. It was then that he spotted her tracks in the snow, and began following them. Soon he caught site of her ahead, and he took off in a light trot. "Derafu!" He called her name, though it came deformed out of his mouth that was already clenched around metal. He stopped dead just as the last syllable left his lips as the female suddenly collapsed to the ground, and then attempted to get back up, before simply falling back down again and crying. Somewhat panicked, Adriane rushed over. "Empress Girafi?" He panted as he got there and set down the circlet on a rock, where it'd be safe from the snow. As he saw her convulsing he realized that she must be having her pups. Now.
What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? Adriane was no healer. He didn't know how to help a female in labor! He hesitantly crept closer. "...Empress Girafi.... just... be HAPPY!" He said, saying the only thing he knew. Happiness was good, yes?

Girafi opened her clenched eyes, blurred with tears, to see the metal worker, Adriane, if she remembered his name right.
"Just be happy?" she squealed, "Just be happy?! How about you have pups and try to just be happy?!" She would have said more, but there was a curious feeling of her stomach getting lighter as the first pup was born.
Girafi glared up at Adriane.
"Well? Don't just stand there! Keep it warm! I think there's another one- ooooh..." her eyes rolling up into her head, Girafi passed out as the second pup appeared in the snow. Two wet, wriggling forms lay there, making soft squeaking noises at their mother and at Adriane.

Adriane blinked, taken aback. "I don't think I'm capable of having pups... am I?" He asked, tilting his head to one side, taking her retort seriously.
But then it happened. The first pup was there, and Adriane stared at it. It was so pretty... just like it's mother. But then Girafi snapped at him to keep it warm... right before she birthed the second pup and passed out. Adriane scurried to push the puppies by their mother's belly, so they could get milk, and he curled up beside them, licking them. He had to keep them warm... and he had to get them breathing! How could he do that? Lick them more? YES! Adriane licked them more vigorously and then turned his attentions to Girafi. "Lady Girafi... uh... hello?" Ok, how could he get her to wake up? "Your pups are here... and... do you really want me looking after them alone?" Sure, it was all he could think of, but seriously. It was a bad idea to leave them alone with him if he didn't have any experience. At least they had her milk, even if she was unconscious. But she had to name them! What would happen if they went hours without a name?! Would the great spirit take them back? Would they remain nameless? No! But Adriane couldn't name them! He wasn't the father... or the mother, for that matter. "Lady Girafi..."

It was only a few minutes before Girafi jolted back awake. She dimly remembered pain, and squeaking, and some other wolf who seemed to be uncertain as to whether or not he could have pups.
However, a moment later the world rushed back into her head and, groaning, the Sennyo opened her eyes to the blinding snow.
Looking around with mild confusion, Girafi noted that Adriane had cleaned off her new born pups and they were now suckling happily. Two. Two was a good number. Sighing with relief, Girafi licked the fuzzy little bundles over again, making sure they were okay, then turned her eyes back to Adriane.
"Er...thank you," she muttered, although she meant it sincerely, then, at a lose for what else to say (she wasn't the best at thank you's), looked back down at her pups.
"Well then," said she to they, "I suppose you'll need names, huh..?" she considered all the possible names she could give them... then realized she didn't know their gender yet. Nudging the little bundles over to squeaks of protest, Girafi studied the pups.
"Huh..." she said, "I can't tell what gender they are... but they can probably wait a few more days for names..."

Adriane sighed with relief as the Empress awoke. Now she could make things right! He watched as she studied the pups and then, much to his horror, she suggested they wait a few days on names because she didn't know their gender!
The Lupus abruptly stuck his nose close to them and sniffed, looking for the telltale signs of either male or female. "They are both two pretty little girls!" He said rather quickly and insistently. "If you don't name them, then they won't learn their names and then the spirits will be angry!" He tensed, thinking at the possibilities. Anger, volcanoes, dead puppies, pack civil war! No! "Besides, Lady Girafi," He added hastily. "Don't you want them to carry on your beauty in..title?" Yes, if they went nameless, someone else was bound to start calling them something! It might be something horrid, like Princess Wood and Princess Rock! Oh no!

Girafi looked at her pups this way and that. Now that she was studying them, she realized Adriane was right. They really were girls! Little twin girls... how cute!
"Alright," she said, "Then I'll name them..." she thought for a short while, observing each pup in turn, "This one," she nosed one of the pups, a light brown one with black and blue wings, still damp from being cleaned, "This one will be Elva... and this one," she nosed the other, a blue one with wings of sunset, "Will be Fairiade. Both will be princesses, and then someday they'll have to share the title impératrice someday as well..." Girafi sighed, "Do you think Journey will approve?" she asked Adriane.
