Koga slowly soared through the skies, floating lazily through the cool air. He smelled food below him, a bull elk and his herd were ranging around in a large circle of open space, searching for plants under the drifts. Turning his nose down, Koga rocketed downwards in a dizzying spiral, wings folded tightly to his body. At the last second, he unfurled his wings and braked against the air. He touched lightly down and folded them back against his sides.
He sniffed the ground, searching for a scent trail to follow to the herd. He had misjudged where they were from above, and landed somewhere in relation to them below. The scent was weak, so Koga had difficulty finding a clear path, but once he found it, he followed it easily to the herd's clearing. He gently rustled his feathers and stalked around them, spooking the bull into looking away from his harem. A rustling answered his own, spooking Koga. "Who's there? Come out now!" he demanded, calling into the snow covered trees.
