"A griffin!" Chance heard Nocturne gasp but the phrase didn't fully register in his mind until a shrill scream of the great beast rang in his ear drums
Chance jumped up, nearly smashing into the roof of the den, as the griffin's beak brushed his back. He lurched forward and out of reach eyes wide with panic. He took a deep breath trying to calm his frenzied nerves. Eyes darting to Nocturne as he regained his head, he saw her surveying the wall. What is she doing!? he screamed in his mind before turning to face the griffin, slowly backing up it grope for it's prey. "Any plans?" he asked voice raising several octaves in his distress. There was no where to flee to and that was all he knew how to do. Reason or flee. Clearly this was not a beast he could reason with.

○○○○○○○○○○○○○○ "I would've fought the griffin, but because there's too little space, I can't!" Nocturne said to herself sharply. She glanced at Chance quickly and back to the wall. She lifted her front paws and grasped the wall with her claws, and began to dig frantically. "Dig your way out!" Nocturne yelled to Chance, and began to tear though the snow upward. Even though the ground was frozen, her den was really a hole in a pile of snow so this could be done. The snow flew up in the air and nearly hit her in the eye.
She dug and dug, and panted until the tip of her nose felt air. Nocturne outstretched her paws that way and dug up onto the top, far left of the den.

"Dig your way out!" Nocturne yelled.
That's well and all, he thought bitterly though his fear, but not as easy as you make it sound. Chance sunk his claws into the frigged compacted snow. With the bit of energy he gained from his short tortured sleep. Nocturne was already halfway out of the den when Chance was but a forth. With a growl he stopped and moved to where the she-wolf was at work. As she ascended and began to widen her hole behind her to fit his bulk. He may be small but he was still a keiyou.

The female griffin could only hear the cry of the female for a moment. The sound was muffled by the dirt around them, and she didn't really know very much wolf. She had spent time in the canyon, yes, but she had never really encountered wolves enough to learn any of their language. She couldn't exactly tell what was happening, as the wolves panicked. Her beak grasped only fur, and she realised what the wolves were doing quite quickly. So, the griffin pulled her beak back, using her taloned forefeet to begin digging away at the top of the den. The snow was easy to pull away, until she hit the frozen ground.
It was only when she had uncovered most of the den when she realised neither wolf was still there. Shrieking in anger, she rose, her beak clacking a bit as she scented the air, trying to find where the wolves had gone. She hoped back up onto the snow, her head low to the ground. Using the noise they made as a locator, she followed the two for a while, until finally they stopped. The female who had been in the den first seemed to have come to a full stop, and the griffin grinned, moving a little bit behind a snow drift, until she was camouflaged enough that the wolves wouldn't see her when they came out. Until then she'd lie in wait.

○○○○○○○○○○○○○○ Nocturne panted with her tongue hanging out of her mouth, her legs and paws digging franticly though the bitterly cold snow. Half of her body was already out of the ground, but half more to go. It was tiring, but she had to move on or else. Her claws scraped the ice-hard surface of the ground and pressed into it, attempting to heave herself up onto the ground. Nocturne breathed as she heaved herself onto the ground, and straightened herself up as she stood up. Where was the griffin? Was it still here?

Throbbing pain shot up though Chance's claw and rooted itself into his paws as he struggled to widen Nocturne's exit. After a short while he heaved himself out besides the Sennyo. How is it a three legged Sennyo can dig better than I can? he huffed to himself. Regaining his breath he looked around. The griffin would soon find them gone and come looking for them. He was sure of it.
"We need to get under cover," he said barely above a ragged whisper.
