[atrb=width,200][bg=fbfcff] High Chief | [bg=d3cfbf] The wolf who claims the title is allowed to lead the pack. He is expected to be instantly obeyed, as he will not allow insubordination. He is like a father figure to the pack. Wolves with this title usually lead hunting parties and patrols along with Chief. He is supported by his Queen and his Chief. He is allowed to make pack-changing decisions on his own, but will seek guidance from the other high ranks. |
[bg=eff1f5] Chief | [bg=c4c0b2] The wolf with this title is chosen to be High Chief if anything happens to the previous High Chief before the heirs come of age. The wolf with this title is second in command; he can do anything High Chief can, with exception of making decisions that are pack-changing alone. He is expected to obey every command of High Chief. He is also expected to be an adviser to the High Chief. He and the Queen are also allowed to give ranks to new wolves. |
[bg=fbfcff] Queen | [bg=d3cfbf] This rank that is only allowed for the mate of the High Chief. She is allowed to lead the pack along with her mate, as well as advise her mate. She has a say in the major decisions of the pack. She acts as a mother figure, making sure the pack members are doing well and acting as their voice. She can give ranks to wolves. |
[bg=eff1f5] Philosopher | [bg=c4c0b2] There is usually one in this pack, but sometimes a philosopher takes in an apprentice. This wolf is usually clever, and cunning, but is nothing without High Chief's council to back him up. Children of Hvítur Ári rely on this wolf to assist the leaders and try to foresee all consequences of High Chief's actions to prevent him from making mistakes. The philosopher is also a star-reader and envoy to other packs. |
[bg=fbfcff] Council of Elders | [bg=d3cfbf] These are the elders of the pack. Former leaders mostly that help aid the new leaders with wisdom and guidance. All they can offer is advice. The cannot interfere beyond that. They are respected and beloved by the pack. A treasure of history to be kept comfortable in there last days. They help wherever they can in the pack, but are not required to hunt or defend. |
[bg=eff1f5] First Guardian | [bg=c4c0b2] The maximum wolves for this title are two. The first Guardians are assigned to protect the High Chief and his family, and give their word to protect him with their lives. The first Guardians are the wolves who the leader trusts with his life. The wolves with this title are also the captains of the Guardians. Like the Guardians, they are the main border patrols, and may bring new wolves into the pack. |
[bg=fbfcff] Guardian | [bg=d3cfbf] There are unlimited number of Guardians in this pack as they are the protectors, warriors of Children of Hvítur Ári. They are responsible of watching out for the dangers, and they usually come with perfect senses, for example a blind wolf won't be a Guardian, nor will be deaf wolf. They are taught battle skills and strategy at early age [as the Little Ones], and not all of them will be promoted to a Guardian. They patrol the borders and are allowed to bring new wolves into the pack, as long as they let a higher up know about it. |
[bg=eff1f5] Crone | [bg=c4c0b2] This wolf is the chronicler of the pack. They know the written language of the Children and keep the Painted Cave up to date with the history of the pack. They are very wise and teach the wolves, especially the storytellers, about the pack. When they begin to age, they may take a storyteller as an apprentice and teach them how to write the language. It takes years to achieve this rank. |
[bg=fbfcff] Storyteller | [bg=d3cfbf] They are responsible of feeding the puppies and the Little Ones with the stories and the legends of the beasts and lands surrounding their home. Storytellers are also teachers for the puppies, they teach them the best way to survive the harsh reality of the wild. They are hubs of knowledge and are expected to learn as well as teach. |
[bg=eff1f5] Nurse | [bg=c4c0b2] Nurses are heavily respected as they are the healers of the pack. They can act as wet nurses or sitters for the packs puppies if the need arises. Many are gifted with the power of healing or knowledge of medicinal herbs. They care for the elderly and sick. To harm one is a serious offense, because they are valued quite highly. |
[bg=fbfcff] Little One | [bg=d3cfbf] They are yearling wolves in training to be Guardian. Though they aren't as respected as adult Guardians are, but they are important as they are the future protectors of the pack. Little Ones are expected to obey every rules and listen every information given by experienced Guardians. |
[bg=eff1f5] Hunter | [bg=c4c0b2] Their job is searching and bringing food for the pack to feast upon. They are valued for their skills in hunting. However they have many duties, besides hunting, like scouting, being a messenger, fighting alongside with Guardians if needed, and assisting a storyteller with teaching. They are well rounded assistants to the pack. |
[bg=fbfcff] Sitter | [bg=d3cfbf] They are trusted by the higher ranks to look after the babies of the pack. They are required to prevent puppies from getting involved in serious fights with each other, prevent them from getting in harm's way and to protect them from the dangers of the wild. Breaching the trust will result them being demoted to a nothing. |
[bg=eff1f5] Puppy | [bg=c4c0b2] The youngsters of the pack. They are expected to be looked after by the sitters. Their young days are full of learning, play-fighting, and getting their tummy full. |
[bg=fbfcff] Nothing | [bg=d3cfbf] They are like omegas, the wolves given this rank have either not gained the trust of the pack, or somehow have been ostracized. They are assigned to nothing, they just stay in the pack, left to eat last, and aren't trusted just to go near the puppies. The wolves of the pack don't take much notice to the bearer of this title, hence their title name "nothing". |
[bg=eff1f5] Prisoner | [bg=c4c0b2] Prisoners are often taken from the rival pack to make them reveal precious information. Sometimes they are refugees from unsavory packs that the High Chief does not know what to do with. They can be wolves from Children of Hvítur Ári if they have betrayed the trust of the pack. They are kept in the pack for any length of time, either until they die or they had earned the trust of the High Chief. |
