He sprinted along the edge of his lake, the gold and black wings on his bright blue paws fluttering, lending him speed.
"There's a pack"
The wolf had looked at him with old eyes, studying his natural abilities.
"They could use someone speedy like you,"
So he'd thanked her for her time and her advice and raced off, heading north towards the chilly air and the unfamiliar terrain. He'd stepped into pack lands, and, with little else to do and a lot of nervous energy, he had been racing around this lake ever since.
Panting, the hybrid skidded to a halt, wincing as a few pebbles bounced off the slight kink in his right foreleg. The place still hurt from being gauged with a Yagi horn, many, many years ago, and gave him a bit of a limp. However, it didn't slow him any, just gave him memories.
Lowering his head to the cold water, Hermes took a deep drink. Sighing, he lifted his head and looked around. Seeing no one, he attempted to summon a pack member. Raising his muzzle to the mid-day sun, he howled, calling out to someone, anyone, to come and see if they could help him.
Finishing that, Hermes felt the nervous energy rising again. Puffing a few breaths, he lowered his head, spread his legs wide, and allowed his wings to begin fluttering again, then, with a deep breath, he ran off again, his paws pounding against the earth, breath coming swift and furious. He was determined to join this pack. He wouldn't be turned away! He knew this position was his birthright, or, at the least, that's how he felt about it.
And so the God of Messengers came to the lands of the Empire.

Sorrow filled and still getting over her loss, a small female yagi lay in the warm sulfur mud that was so common around the Geyser. In her years of being in this pack, she always found that the mud had medicinal qualities....soothing, healing. Perhaps it could fill the void that was now in her life. Her pups were gone....so was their father. She was left alone, just as she felt she was destined to be.
All she had was in this bleak tundra, her loyalty to the Empire had brought her more suffering than good, yet she still remains vigilant. She stood from her bath of mud, shaking off the larger clumps that clung to her brown and green pelt. Beautiful, lithe horns swept back from her head, casting the shadow almost like that of a unicorn. Her poorly docked tail wavered limply, the scar in her side gleamed in the afternoon sun. What else was there that needed to be done?
Her mind pushed back her sorrow, she had duties to tend to. The pack needed to be fed, even though it was a time of plenty. She was the Captain after all, she had to make sure the hunters had provided food. She had to make sure Sheba was happy....she seemed to be the only one that remained by the Empress side in these times. The dark times as Bathsheba slowly ebbed into the abyss of insanity.
Cupressus made up her mind to visit the lake to clean off then she would make her way back to the dens to check on things there. Her plan was foiled when she heard a strange howl on the wind. Intense green eyes scanned the horizon, searching for the caller. Movement betrayed the runner, the yagi female would be prepared for an intruders. She moved directly into the path of the newcomer, her body prepared to fight in the defense of the lands, should they be hostile.

Hermes skidded to a halt as the Yagi stepped into his way. Taking a sniff of the air around her, he was able to connect her scent with the scent of the pack lands. He wagged tail, then dropped into a bow, lowering himself almost to the ground, his tail still in the air. "Ah! Lady of the pack!" he said, his black silk voice rippling from his muzzle, "I see you've finally come! I suspect you heard my call?" without waiting for a reply, he adjusted his position into a sitting one, then placed a paw to his chest, "I, Lady of the pack, am Hermes. I was directed here by a friend of mine, someone who knew of your establishment. I believe she asked for me to inquire about a... messenger?" He tilted his head slightly to the right, studying the female. She was covered in mud, from the looks of things, something he himself found quite foul. "But, perhaps... perhaps before we speak... you'd like to rinse off?" he meant nothing offensive by this statement, but he did seem to think it would be not only uncomfortable for her, but unbearable for him. His level of cleanliness and personal appearance awareness was nearly impossible, and seeing someone less than they're best bugged him to no end. ((OOC: Sorry for crappy post, and I also planned to post this in the lake XD I kinda put it in the wrong place ^_^; )

Her eyes seemed empty, aside the spark of defensive rage that had bubbled forth at the idea of a stranger in her lands. He talked a lot, she really didn't care how he got here or what he was after. " The last messenger was murdered, just so you know." With that she turned towards the direction of less caustic water, there was a small fresh water pond just on the edge of the geyser field that had formed after some of the snow melt.
The male really did not seem like much of a threat, he looked quite breakable actually, so Cupressus let her guard down long enough to roll in the shallow pond to get the majority of the mud off. When she was finished she got out and shook her thick pelt out, sending crystals of water to dance in the air.
She looked at him once she was a tad more presentable. " So why do you want to be in our pack?" It was a straight forward question, she didn't want to beat around the bush. She really had no final say in the matter, but she could at least take him to Sheba...so she could rank him.

Hermes quailed a bit at the mention of the last messangers murder. He almost asked who had killed them, and for what purpose, but decided against it. He was quite certain he didn't want to know.
"That's... unfortunate," he said, trying to keep the quiver from his voice. He waited for the Yagi to return from her brief rinse, then thought about her next question.
"Why..?" he thought of all the reasons why, "Because I don't feel as though I'm getting anywhere in my current life, always stuck in the past. Because I need a home where I won't have to worry my way through every minute. Because I need somewhere where I can use my talents." he found that there were more reasons in his head than he had really considered when he set off on the recomandation of another. Then it had just seemed like something to do with his time, now it was almost the main focus of his mind.
"I'd be truely dedicated to any task given!" he said sincerly, "Whatever you ask of me, I'll do, if only to prove my worth as a messanger. My speed is second to none! I spend quite a lot of my time training!" he was on the verge of begging, but not quite. For Hermes, however, nothing was too low to get what he was after.

She snorted a little at his quailing, "Just don't impregnate anyone with a vengeful sibling and I'm sure you will be fine" There was a bit of bitterness in her town. She was not having a good day and she really didn't want to deal with strangers. She shook off her pelt one more time to make sure there was little water clinging to her.
"Well if that is your reasoning, then fine. Welcome to the pack. All you have to worry about is the cold and the Empress. I'm sure we could use a messenger since other packs are amassing." Her green eyes flashed with a stubborn fire, was the Empress really something to worry about? She had not thought of it until she spoke with out thinking. The scar on her side itched slightly at the thought.
" I can accept you into the pack, though I cannot formally give you the title messenger, I will take you to the Empress and her heir.....I'm Cupressus, the Captain of the pack, I control the hunts and the hunters." She gave a half-hearted dip of the head before turning and walking towards the Snowhills.

Hermes tilted his head, wondering what the Yagi meant about a vengeful sibling. However, he didn't feel like asking, not wishing to destroy his chances at living peacefully in the pack. He shrugged, giving a lazy half-grin.
"Whatever it is that will make my stay here better for both me and my fellow packmates," said he, "And I don't really much mind the cold. I'm good in most any weather, and I'm quite sure I'd like the Emperess, I'm open to all kinds off people."
Hermes wondered where he was to be in the pack. Below this... Cupressus, certainly, but a messanger must hold something of a high rank, yes? He sighed. No matter, he was finding his use! At long last! Trotting behind Cuppressus, he gave a little bit of a tail wag.
"The Empress and the heir, eh?" he asked, "Will there be some kind of an evaluation? What happens if one approves and the other denies? Where will I be then?"

She growled a little at all his questions, why was she the one who had to find him? She assumed that she would not get on well with him, at least not today. Her mood was too dark to really be accepting any one new in her life.
" The Heir is just a yearling, I doubt there will be much arguing about you. Bathsheba will look at you, give you a rank, provided she is feeling well enough to do so. " Cypress was technically one of the highest ranks in the pack, she wondered, if Sheba was unable, if she would have to take over the pack until Nero was old enough. Could she give a rank? She had no idea anymore. Sheba was getting further and further away from her....
She trudged through the snow, not bothering too much to step high, she was just plowing through it, perhaps to feel a bit of sensation, to try to take her mind of all the horrible things that were happening.
