It had been days since the rugged lump of grasses had consumed a decent meal. With discomfort that was more thought about than felt, Aylen now lay in a strange marsh on a dry knoll, facing the water. Maw hung open, begging for something to cross it- if nature willed her to live, something would sate her hunger, or she would perish. It was simple as that. When the morning sun crept over the new horizon, she'd settled here. The only inkling one might feel of something being amiss? Perhaps the strange fern atop her shoulders that was not native to these parts. Provided, of course, the gleam of stone-still fangs didn't catch your eye. It was now wearing on into late afternoon, though. Stomach had long since ceased its growling, and eyelids didn't even twitch at the first nearby motion in a while.
A marsh rabbit, young and strong, poked his nose at the wolf's eye. She didn't blink, nor so much as flinch in the slightest. Eyes remained locked ahead, as though for all intents and purposes, she had died. One more step toward her jaw, the clawed paws of the youth edging toward the warmth of her breath- then she snapped. Like a mousetrap, jaws clutched shut, grabbing the paw in her jaws. She lifted the hare, tossing it roughly and shaking a bit, to end the horrific scream it released. Fangs closed over the head, cutting it off, and after a moment of stillness, she began to feast.
Ears flicked lethargically as she dined, aware that the noise alone might bring wanderers. After all, she'd crossed a pack border in the dark of last night. Perhaps it was about time to be found.
