I suggest a sliding scale for the price of hybrid creation. This would apply only to characters created as hybrids and not to those born of two characters on the site. The reasoning for this is that we have established some species on the site as being less likely to hybridize. Because of this some hybrids should be less likely to occur than others. The current 200 paw prints required to create any kind of hybrid doesn’t’ seem to reflect this.
This isn’t to stop any established characters from hooking up and reproducing with whoever they want, but it will keep players honest during character creation. We’ve got some really cool hybrids (and the contest will likely bring even more cool ones) and it can be tempting to ignore the fact that some are rather unlikely to exist. It weakens the site “normal” if suddenly we have a dozen Lumen hybrids running around. This system would still allow those characters to be created, but cost restrictions will keep them rare.
I propose a system that would take into account the species of both parents for pricing. I have laid out three groups below:
Group 1
Highly social wolves open to new ideas and hybridizing.
Lyxxus, Keiyou, Lupus
Parent cost: 100 pp
Group 2
Average wolves who have hesitation about hybridizing.
Cael, Kukkien, Eremus, Myou
Parent cost: 200 pp
Group 3
Wolves with outward resistance to hybridizing.
Yagi, Sennyo, Lumen
Parent cost: 500 pp
To determine the cost of creating a new hybrid the creator would find the price of each desired parent and add them together. So in this model, a Lupus x Lyxxus hybrid would cost 200 pp to create. A Cael x Keiyou would cost 300 pp. A Lumen x Eremus would cost 700 pp. And a Yagi x Lumen would cost a 1000 pp to create.
I divided the species into groups based on their species page and hybrid descriptions where available (and of course my personal gut feeling about the species, I debated switching Myou and Keiyou). I debated giving a different cost to each species, but this seemed a bit easier and user friendly.
Of course it would be up to staff to decide which species ultimately belongs in what group, how many groups there are, and how much each group costs (if they even like the idea at all). This is just a basic outline for discussion.
Thoughts?
