Torn stepped into the cool water, lapping it up slowly. After traveling for so long, a brief moment to relax was restful. Taking a step back, he then sat by the spring, basking in the glow of the late afternoon sun. Perhaps he had found a nice empty spot. Torn became slightly more alert at the thought. Peaceful as it was, he wouldn't let himself be snuck up on. And it had high chances a place like this had creatures of some kind, and being crippled, he always needed to aviod being a target.

It was unusual, one she hadn't smelt before. That was fine; she was still new to the pack, and didn't know most of the wolves. What she wasn't fine with was the fact that this newcomer smelled nothing like the Cadre. The scent was that of a loner. For a second, she wondered if she should leave it to a ranked wolf; the Epsilons were the scouts, they'd come and chase the intruder off. Or the alphas could come and decide what to do, or even the betas, or just anybody but her. After the griffin fiasco, Lyta was watching her step, trying not to make any mistakes, trying to do things right. After a moment's consideration, however, she decided to go after it. At very least she could inform the loner that the territory belonged to the Cadre. She got up and bounded towards the scent; it wasn't far. She leapt over a ridge and there he was, the source of the scent. She hadn't expected him to be a cripple. Gasping, she backed away slowly; in the Guardians, a cripple was considered incredibly bad luck. Being crippled was thought to be punishment for only the most evil wolves. Then she shook her head. She knew that that was probably just as much prejudice as the fact they had hated the Runners. Still.... Some prejudices are too ingrained to just be mastered. Snarling, she attacked. T H E Y . Torn perked up. Something was coming this way, fast. Turning he saw a flash of red coming toward him. He was glad he didn't just fully relax a few moments ago. Still, he hadn't expected someone to come charging in fangs bared.
He searched for a clam in his mind, a grasp of the power he knew he had, but only got a weak hold on it. He closed his eyes and focused harder. His heart was pumping so much faster, and he could barely stand. He got it. He opened his eyes, looking at the earth in the shades of white, gray, and black that he was beginning to get more and more used to.
Unfortunately the wolf was only a few yards away. He turned slightly, shielding more of his neck, while he desperately looked for some give in the earth. Not seeing any off the bat, he tried a different tactic. Concentrating he picked up a stone about the size of his head and moved it between him and the charging red flash, yelling as he did, "STOP OR ELSE!". Most wolves were thrown at a loop by this trick, so he hoped it would buy him some time more than anything.

She hadn't expected that at all! Scared, she stumbled a few steps back before her brain kicked in. Stop it! You're no superstitious scared little Guardian who's going to be thrown by some silly magic trick! You're Lyta, Subordinate of the Styrrstdar Cadre! This wolf's just an intruder! Snarling, she straightened and looked him in the eye from one or two metres away. "Haven't you anything better to do than throw rocks at Lyxxi? This land is the Styrrstdar Cadre's- of which I'm a Subordinate," she added quickly, not wanting him to think her high-ranked. "You should leave!" T H E Y . W O N 'T . K N O W . W H A T' S . H I T . Torn was very interested by this red wolf, but this was overshadowed by the fact that he was in a land of another pack. He let the rock set onto the ground, not wanting to provoke another attack. "I was planning on it." Torn was feeling a little grumpy now, since he hadn't known, and really hadn't been doing a whole lot wrong.
Turning he walked a little way, turning back on this strange red-furred wolf. "Perhaps we will meet again, under less.... stressful times, it might be interesting." With that Torn continued walking, glancing back every now and then to make sure the wolf wouldn't try anything.

In fact neither did most of the wolves here the Guardians would've called evil. She suddenly picked herself up and ran after him. "Loner?" She didn't know his name. She caught up and faced him, blocking his way out, but not threatening like she had been before. "I'm... sorry. I come from a long way away, and I still have certain... superstitions, about wolves like you. You really weren't doing much wrong. I..." she hesitated. "I shouldn't be so aggressive like that. I'm sorry. I'm just new here, trying not to do anything wrong... but it's not like I'm used to, wolves are allowed to travel around places. I keep forgetting that," she muttered, then shook her head and looked up with a forced smile. "I really am sorry. What's your name?" T H E Y . W O N 'T . K N O W . W H A T' S . H I T . T H E M

Torn stopped. All over the place it seemed, and she seemed even younger than him. It was somewhat refreshing, considering he had often met those younger then him and had them run away from him, scared of his appearance. Not just him. Wolves like him. The stranger's comment cut like the winter wind.
Torn glanced at the young, foxy face looking at him, demanding an answer. He couldn't just walk this one off. "My name sums up all the 'wolves like me', Torn"He was a little cold, and noticed it, so he softened a bit. He was fully aware that his looks brought on unwanted approaches.
Raising an eyebrow Torn spoke again, making sure it was more friendly a tone. "Now then, miss red-soul, you will have to make up your mind whether I stay with you or leave."It was true, he didn't want to fight, but he couldn't exactly just sit waiting.

Her past, all her young memories and prejudices, were screaming at her. But she was not that wolf any more- she had to keep remembering that. She found it easier to smile as his cold tone softened with his second remark. She liked that; red-soul. It summed her up as easily as Torn summed up cripples. She forced her mind back on task. "Well..." she paused, unsure. She had no idea as to pack policy, still being new; whether she ought to chase this wolf out or let him stay or whatever. "Um.... I don't know..." She shook her head, then made up her mind; she had to start being the new her, the new Lyta, and one of the many ways of doing that would be to start getting past her old Guardian superstitions. Keeping this cripple with her would help that. "Um, sure. Stay a while... if somebody higher ranked turns up, though, we'd better just do what they say." She smiled brightly at him, and this time it was unfeigned. "I'm Lyta asi... no, sorry. Lyta." This really would take a while. She'd been alone for too long between leaving the Echoes and turning up here; she'd fallen back into her old habits, thinking of herself with her old Guardian full name. "That trick with the rock was pretty cool. How do you do that?" She'd always envied the Lupus' powers, determined to believe- no matter what the evidence against it- that it was just willpower, and any wolf could learn it. Her philosophy was a lot like that; she thoroughly believed she was invincible, and that she could do anything if she tried and applied herself. While this had stood her in good stead, she didn't exactly grok Lupuses; the concept of powers was strange to her young, Lyxxi mind, especially since there'd been no Lupuses in the Guardians or the Flame Runners.

The red wolf seemed to relax, Torn was glad. This younger wolf looked as though she was having trouble speaking to him. He supposed it was understandable. She had come up and tried to attack him, and he wasn't the easiest person to speak to in any circumstances.
Torn wanted to move a bit farther back, since they were both eye to eye, but he didn't, seeing as she had shown she was very... decisive. Then her question hit. He wasn't sure how to respond for a moment, so he answered carefully. "I'm not sure how I can explain it red-soul. I can see the earth differently when I use my skills."
Torn shrugged. He wasn't sure he could explain it better. Then he let out a chuckle. "Besides, they don't emerge until you..." Torn took a run of the well built small body. "... mature a bit." She was young, but more than a little pleasant to look at, but none-the-less was still only just more than a pup. Though half way through his third year alive he couldn't really talk.
Then Torn raised his eyebrow. There was a pack here, but she seemed unsure. "Until someone higher up shows up?" Torn chuckled a bit. "Are you sure red-soul? You didn't seem very happy at my presence a moment ago." Torn stood his ground with his last remark, continuing to look directly into the eyes of the stranger.

(if i may join) [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i56.tinypic.com/2v0fin6.png] Phoenix had been wandering for hours on end, finally happy to get out of the wet swamp and onto this dry land. She now had power, being in the swamp extinguished her element of fire almost completely, but now on dry ground she felt powerful, that she could win any battle. She lifted her nose to the air catching faint scents of two very different wolves, she still wasn't used to other breeds for when with her old pack there had only been one species, the Lupus. She breathed in a again but could only catch the same scents heading in the same direction. She paused, wondering whether to change course or continue on. Her paws were just itching for a fight, she walked on, heating her pads to a point where every step she took left a singed pawprint.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My inner darkness shines as bright,
as a hundred million rays light.
Darkness cannot shine you say?
Well mine is brighter than the day.
It illuminates my heart and soul,
breaks me down, then builds me whole.
It shines in me wherever I am,
and makes me just not give a damn.
For when you have darkness inside,
there's no happy place to hide.
You see the world as it is for real,
where people hate, and hurt, and kill.
With light inside you see only good,
and live a good life as everyone should.
So why is it that I choose the dark,
when light by comparison is a walk in the park?
It's because darkness prepares you for what can go wrong,
cause the world's going to Hell, and Earth doesn't have long.
Darkness teaches you caution, be prepared all the time,
disaster and tragedy strike with no reason or rhyme.
Darkness teaches you stealth, used for hiding your stash,
to appear out of nowhere, or disappear in a flash.
But, the main reason it's the darkness I choose,
is because when I die, I'll have nothing to lose. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
((Phoenix not sure you came in sight of our two so Lyta herself will only scent you, and not see you, OK?)) [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,400,true] | [atrb=background,http://i54.tinypic.com/jaf9rq.png] Lyta flicked her ear at his comment on her maturity. She may have been young, but she considered herself an adult, and had done for a very, very long time now. Anybody who was ever expected to act like an adult always somehow grew into one very quickly, and Lyta was like that. A lot like that. She was confused by his last one, though. "Well, I was... oh, I don't know. Things get a little confusing inside my head sometimes," she admitted. "Or a lot confusing. Or just plain crazy." She rolled on her back, splayed her paws, stuck out her tongue, and did a perfect impression of a asphyxiating goldfish. Then she sprung to her paws. "See? Crazy." She smiled a little. "I just meant that I don't have an awful lot of influence here. I don't really know whether I'm meant to drive you off or not, or whether I escort you to the alpha, or whether I paint mud-flowers on your pelt... that's extremely unlikely, by the way," she finished, and laughed at herself. "So if somebody else turns up, they can tell me what to do, and I shall stop being so confused and basically useless." Lyta nodded, and was about to do the crazy goldfish again when her delicate nose picked out a thread of scent from the rich tapestry that hadn't been there before. A wolf scent, carrying thin hints of the Clan. "Someone's coming," she said. "Not from the Cadre." Deciding as the only pack member present she should take control of the situation, she turned to watch for and greet the newcomer, keeping one eye on the other wolf unless this was all some strange plot to distract and kill her. She wouldn't have been surprised if it was; she was as used to it as any wolf could be.
Torn glanced over, catching a scent. He had no idea who it was, but if it was a Cadre, chances were it was a higher up. And if it was he would probably be less welcome. He would be trapped.
Taking a step back he reached in once again. His head began to hurt some, but opening his eyes he saw the grays and whites, if a touch more blurry than usual.
He didn't do anything yet though, he waited. He didn't know how much he could do, and he didn't want to miss and black out.
She started to run, excitement rushed through her. She lit a red flame on her black tipped tail watching with joy as the light flowed behind her. She enjoyed using her element for she had practiced it enough so that tricks like this took no energy at all.
She halted, now in sight of the pair of odd wolves. She stared shocked at the size difference, the Lupus was huge compared to the other. She looked back at the trail of singed pawprints, thinking. She turned back around. The two wolves had not spotted her, but it was only a matter of time before they did see her bright red pelt glinting in the bright sunlight. She decided to wait, so she sat down regaining her energy and strength for she would need it if she was in for a fight.
Another Lupus, also bigger than her. If it came to a fight, not only would she be outnumbered, but she'd be up against two wolves both bigger than her with superpowers. That, she decided, would not be the best way to go about things. You know what? I might have to use diplomacy for once in my life,she mused to herself. Then she grinned at her own idiocy. Why am I always thinking about who would win if it came to a fight? Well, actually she knew why. She just didn't want to admit it to herself. "Hello," she said warily to the other wolf. She was bright red, with black markings, and her tail was on fire. Presumably that was another one of the Lupus powers. "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Lyta. What's your name?"
She would keep her cool and play nice with these wolves if it came to a fight she may be outnumbered but she knew that she would most likely win, the weak, crippled lupus would be easy, and the small one would be just as easy. For lighting them on fire usually gets them running.
"I am Phoenix" she replied, her head held high, for she loved her proud fiery name. "And if I may ask, what are you?" she asked, tilting her head to one side. She kept one eye on the lupus and the other on the small red one with the pelt the same colour as hers. Waiting for a reply, she sat down, playing with her paws, burning the ground beneath her for fun.
