Thunder rolled over head but the rain had yet to fall. The air was thick with moisture and the young Darkly's fur clung uncomfortably to his body. The yearling flinched when the sky flashed which was chased by a loud crash. Brightness knew it was dangerous to be out with a storm on the way but he couldn't bring himself care. It would matter much anyway. He was pretty much a failure to his pack.
The light yellow hybrid was small and clumsy. His paws had trouble not stumbling just like his lungs had trouble taking in air. One of the few upsides to his condition was that it gave him a low rasp that, if he ever used it right, could have been intimidating. But it didn't help much that he held no malice toward other wolves and that he had no desire to kill one.
Brightness' sight was drowned out by another roll of thunder as he wondered deeper into the jungle. By now he could probably navigate the territory in his sleep, for all the trips he took to get away from his mother and brother. If only he could find away to escape this place for good. To never have to cower over a bloodthirsty superior or be told his mother should have eaten him at birth. Yet there was no way he could leave without the pack hunting him down and killing him. It wasn't in their nature to show mercy. It wasn't his fault for being born here.
In all of his self pitying, Brightness didn't notice he was traveling to far. The sky around him darkened steadily and shadows crept closer leave plenty of places for monster to hide.

Moonrose's crimson fur was heavy due to the moisture in the air and she was panting heavily because of it. She licked her right foreleg, which was snow white, and flattened a clump of fur. Her sapphire eyes scanned the Salnero Jungle before her, the scar crossing her left eye reflecting the light of the lightning flashing in the sky. Her claws sheathed and unsheathed, her ears flat because she was not adjusted to the thunder.
She shook her head, groaning when she realized the clouds would soon release their water. Moonrose moved quickly into the cover of the palm trees swaying in the wind. It was dangerous to be out here with the oncoming storm, and the three-tailed Lyxxus began wondering why she was even in the Mafia's territory. She felt as though she was slowly losing her mind.
The Mafia was rumored to be a merciless pack, showing hatred to anyone outside their ranks or weak for that matter. Moonrose knew how to fight, her reason for being a Guardian, but if she was ambushed, then there wouldn't be much chance of her surviving.
The Guardian continued to travel deeper into the forest, admiring the flora around her, but keeping on guard just in case. Her vertical pupils saw through the darkness that the storm clouds were creating and she spotted a moving figure not too far from where she was standing.
She stopped and sniffed the air. Though the moisture prevented much scent from getting through, Moonrose recognized the smell as Mafia. She wanted to growl immediately, but then realized that the wolf was merely a pup. A hybrid pup. He seemed a little clumsy from where she was, though she instantly recognized the emotion surrounding him.
Moonrose, gathering her courage, revealed herself to the wolf and emerged from the shadows. "Are you all right, little one...?"

Ebony was wandering through the jungle, she enjoyed walking through the territories but she prefered the forest to the hot and humid air of the jungle, she was not a big fan of water either. She had heard rumors of a blood thirsty pack that lived here but she was not scared, she highly doubted that any would be out in this weather. Dark clouds covered the night sky thundering as lightning struck the air, it was not raining yet but Ebony knew it would be soon. She lifted her head into the air and howled, her howl carring on the wind across the territory sounded ghostly past the thunder. Her howl changed to a loud growl as she shifted to a panther. Her emerald eyes narrowed as she scanned her surroundings looking for a place to shelter for the night.
She had found a small cave/den farther off and she quietly started moving silently towards it. She halted, catching the scent of another wolf. Her eyes flashed with fear and her fur bristled and she curled her lip, but that quickly disappeared to be replaced with curiousity. She followed the scent, but it had started to rain washing most of it away. Suddenly another scent came to her but very faintly through the rain. It thundered again a little louder as the center of the storm moved nearer.
She now drew near enough to decifer the scents. One she recognized as the smell of the pack that lived here, the other was vaguely familiar. Her paws silently touching the jungle floor avoiding brushing any plants so as not to alert the other wolves of her presecence. Her lithe body winding around them like a snake.
She was now near enough to hear voices, her ear twitched flicking water from it as she listened. The voice was that of a she-wolf and also sounded like she had heard it before. She passed another bush now insight of the pair, careful though to stay hidden in the shadows as she lowered her body, her glowing green eyes slits shining out into the darkness. The male was not of a species she had seen and carried a different smell than that of a purebred. It was similar to hers and she assumed he must be a hybrid but he was weak and young and spreading disgrace to a hybrid.
The other was small and was a lyxxus by her three tails. She looked at the wolf a bit closer she had a snow white leg. Her eyes widened as she recognized this lyxxus as the one she had met before. She curled her lip showing her teeth, but she would stay hidden for as long as possible. She listened as she spoke and waited for a reply from the hybrid.

"Are you all right, little one...?"
Brightness jumped, he was so lost in thought that he hadn't sensed the other wolf's presence. He cursed himself for being so careless. The hybrid had good sense to turn and high tail it back to the pack, but the young wolf was perceptive. The she-wolf in front of him didn't seem dangerous and by her worried question he doubted she meant any harm.
Trying to make himself look smaller and cuter he left his feathers ruffled and shivered as if he was cold. He cowered lifting his light blue eyes to gaze frightfully at the Lyxxus. It helped that the thunder over head struck him with actual fear causing him to flinch. "P-please,"he rasped,"D-don't hurt m-me."
Brightness silently congratulated himself on the stutter. His eyes darted shiftily over her, taking in her appearance while still looking meek. He let out an internal sigh, she only had three tails, that meant she was young right? It meant her had a better chance of survival if it turned out she really was hostile. Not that he would mistake youth for weakness. How could he with a brother like Nightmare?

The clouds finally burst overhead, releasing what they had been holding in for a long time. The two wolves were drenched in seconds. Lightning flashed brightly and illuminated their surroundings, the sound of thunder rolling lethargically (lazily) behind its brighter half. The rain was a monotonous drum on the leaves of the jungle trees.
Moonrose blinked in confusion, watching the pup shiver as he gazed at her. His words rang in her head and, though she tried to picture it, she knew she couldn't bring herself to hurt a young one. He was a bit bigger than her, being a hybrid, but Moonrose was obviously the fighter of the two. There was a reason she was a Guardian.
"Calm down, little one." She hummed soothingly, stepping closer to the pup. "I won't hurt you at all. I'm Moonrose; I belong to the Children of Hvítur Ári. I'm a Guardian."
Moonrose's ears twitched and she turned to glance sideways at a nearby bush, swearing she recognized a scent. She couldn't tell because of the rain, but didn't push her guard down when she face the young pup again. Her maw split into a smile as she attempted to show she truly meant no harm and her sapphire eyes glittered warmly.
"It's raining. I don't think it's a good idea to stand in such weather." She nudged his shoulder lightly, forcing him to move. "Come. Let's rest in a cave and you can tell me what bothers you. I'd like to know your name as well."
The young Lyxxus was still aware of the fact that something was probably watching them, so she was careful in leading the pup away, heading back to a cave she had passed on her way through the Salnero Jungle.

Ebony watched from behind the ferns as the lyxxus spoke to the hybrid. She was disgusted at the hybrids fear, he was special and looked like no one else and even as young and small as he was, he was larger than the lyxxus. Yet still he showed fear, he was supposed to be feared as a hybrid and a member of the mafia, yet he was cowering before the Lyxxus she was not even part of his pack. He should be chasing her off right now. Her disgust at the two wolves raised by the second she lashed her tail, if she wasn't waiting for the right chance, she would attack both of them.
She lashed her tail once more by mistake brushing the ferns, she hoped they would think it was just the wind but better safe than sorry. She waited long enough to catch the females last words. It sounded like they were headed back towards the cave she had seen earlier. She smiled deviously, she would run to the cave and hide in the back and give them a scare if she could, at least she would be out of the rain. She twisted around the ferns careful to avoid the ferns this time and ran towards the cave as silent as she could the rain and thunder muffling her paw steps.

A grumble slightly escaped as the sky let loose and drenched his bright yellow fur. He hoped it maybe sounded like a whimper but didn't worry too much. It seem the she-wolf had already bought his weak act and he could relax some.
Brightness stopped darting his eyes around and fixed them on the Lyxxus as she tried to sooth him. So she was from the Children huh? He didn't know much about the Children, he was more acquainted with the habits of the southern packs. In any case she was right, it wasn't good to stand out in the rain like this. Now came the moment of truth, he could turn and run back to camp and act like nothing ever happened or he could follow her and maybe strike up a friendship. Brightness didn't have any friends... and he wasn't sure he wanted any. But maybe the Guardian could come in handy one day.
So he let her guide him, he didn't need much help finding the cave. He'd never been inside but he knew what she was talking about. So as they traveled he weaved his tale.
"M-my name's B-Brightness Darkly," He stuttered for effect. He let himself shiver to seem cold and sucked in his stomach to seem starved. (Not that he was fed much anyway, but even skinnier than he already was.) "I was j-just trying to a-avoid, Moth- Mommy," he changed his wording. Mother sounded like he had a healthy respect for her. Mommy sounded like he adored her, even if he did fear her. "S-she gets angry and scary and n-no one s-stops her," he tilted his head to show an old scar he had gotten from his brother when he was beating him up. He didn't say any more than that, deciding to leave it to her imagination. By now they had made it to the cave's sheltered opening. He gave himself a shake to rid himself of the water weighing him down. Realizing he probably showered the kind Lyxxus with water he glanced over at her fretfully. "I'm sorry!"

Brightness Darkly? An interesting name, but Moonrose liked it and was sure to remember it. She perked her eyebrow when he suddenly changed his wording. Perhaps he was hoping she had not caught it, so she shoved it aside, listening to the rest of his story. She was slightly appalled as her imagination took over and he showed her the scar he adorned.
They made it to the cave and entered, receiving adequate shelter from the sobbing skies. Moonrose scanned the cave with her vertical pupils, sapphire eyes glowing brightly in the dark. She made sure the cave held no unwanted visitors that could attack them. She was wary of that sort of thing, especially after her encounter with that panther-wolf creature. What was her name? Ebony? Perhaps...the Guardian cared not to remember.
Moonrose was snapped out of her reverie when she was splayed with water and the pup suddenly apologized. She blinked a few times and walked about three tail lengths away, giving her own pelt a shake. It lightened immensely and she immediately felt it was easier to breathe. She turned to face the small wolf, laying down despite his fretful expression.
"It's no trouble at all. I was wet already. The rain did that for you." She smiled, which soon faded into a frown. "There's no need to be so timid with me, you know. I'm friend, not foe. Besides," Moonrose switched her gaze to the jungle outside the cave, "I want to know why you don't just leave. Wouldn't it be much easier for you? Is there any place at all you can go? It sounds horrible here..."
Moonrose sighed, suddenly feeling lucky to live in the Children, with wolves who loved each other and treated each other like a family should.

Ebony ran to the cave, but she had taken the long way around so as not to run into the other two. She heard voices up ahead sliding to a stop, letting out a low growl, they were already at the cave, looks like she would have to find another way to give them a scare.
She walked on, hearing them walking in front of her and listening in to their conversation. The female mentioned her name and thats when it clicked, she was the one who had knocked her and her prey from the tree the other day. Moonrose was her name, the male then mentioned his as Brightness Darkly. She looked for a place to see if she could walk around them and appear at the side of the cave but there was a thick wall of trees and ferns blocking her way and there was no chance of her getting through there unseen or heard.
Ebony had an idea, she picked up a twig in her teeth and through it into the ferns on the other side of her. As they turned their heads to see what happened she bolted past them, a mere shadow on this stormy night. They had reached the cave but she could not go inside without being seen. She looked up to see the ground above then looked behind her they were checking out the inside of the cave. This was her chance, she leaped up her powerful legs thrusting her upwards landing lightly on the grassy top of the cave.
There she lay listening to every word of Moonrose and Brightness's conversation waiting for the right chance to strike.

The youth felt a tinge of guilt when Moonrose called herself a friend. After all he couldn't really be friends with her. He would have to use his puppy face to convince her to leave after the storm broke and then sneak back to the pack. He would go on with his miserable life and she back to hers.
"I want to know why you don't just leave. Wouldn't it be much easier for you? Is there any place at all you can go? It sounds horrible here..."
Leave? Brightness' facade slacked as he snorted in contempt.
"That's impossible," he glowered, his bright eyes darkening, "It is the Mafia or death. To leave would be to become a traitor and traitors must be hunted down and killed. Death is the only escape form this place."
The golden hybrid let out a sigh then flinched as he realized that he had let his emotions get the better of him. He was going to see her reaction when the rustle of ferns outside the cave gave him a fright. Brightness lifted his head, scenting the air to see if anyone from his pack had seen them and followed the two. He would be in deep trouble if he was caught with a trespasser without at least attempting to run her off. Unfortunately the rain had washed away all scents accept for that of damp soil. He took a deep breath that rasped in his lungs because of his asthma.

Moonrose was slightly taken aback with his snort, suddenly appearing as though he was not who he acted as he was. She pushed it aside once again, remaining calm. She took notice of his alarm when the bushes outside the cave rustled. Her sapphire eyes turned on them, vertical pupils searching for whatever caused the noise. She knew it wasn't just the wind.
Her ears were flat against her head and her maw was beginning to pull back into a snarl as she rose to her feet, fur bristling. She lowered her voice. "...I have a feeling we're not alone here..." She didn't look at Brightness, but continued to conversation with her usual calmness.
"I cannot believe I'm about to tell you this..." The Guardian trailed off for a moment, feeling disappointment sweep through her limbs, but regained her courage. "Why...why don't you fake your own death? If plain leaving is impossible, why not do that?"
She paused, remembering what terror was. "You know... I know how you feel, but in a different sense. I didn't always belong to the Children. I had a pack before, but they were massacred by a bigger pack that was looking for territory. I killed their alpha, but only because I was terrified of what would happen to me. Unfortunately, I'm the only one who survived..." Moonrose halted her speech, then sighed. "I'm sure you're not interested in such things, but I want you to know that I know what it's like to be alone. To be left in the dark..."
The Guardian snorted to herself, sensing her own sudden weakness and letting her guard down. Only for a few seconds.

Ebony was listening to Moonrose speak quietly to Brightness, her hair slick with water, she twitched her ear shaking droplets of water from it. She suddenly noticed that Moonrose and Brightness seemed calm and had let their guard down. This was her chance. She leaped gracefully into the air hitting the wet ground lightly with her paws then spun around to face the two. Showing her large white teeth and snarled, then smiled a devilish smile. "Greetings I am Ebony and what brings you two around and about during this wheather at this time of night?" her tone was not hostile nor kind but neutral. She narrowed her eyes and unsheathed her claws as she waited for an answer.
She decided to continue instead of waiting, she turned to the lyxxus a misheavious look in her eye "Well, well, we meet again Moonrose, I didn't expect to see you this far from home shouldn't you be back in your den out of this weather instead of with this weakling, or were you hoping to see if you could kick all the tresspassers off every packs territories." There was a hint of a sneer in her voice as she growled in her panther voice.
She turned to Brightness "And you too, shouldnt you be back in the den with mommy, dont they teach mafia pups to defend their borders, not make friends with every wolf that enters." she sneered at the young hybrid "Or are you to cowardly that even the mafia has given up on you. Poor poor Brightness what ever will you do now? Leave and you are dead, stay and you are dead, make a choice" She almost laughed at this one, she was sure that Brightness would be a bit scared of her knowing his name and that he would not like her insults meant to tease and wind him up to really see how strong he was.

The young wolf was about to reply to Moonrose when the dark wolf formed from the shadows. The only light left was that of the lightning that streaked the sky. He could just pick out the new comer by her vivid green eyes that reflected the little light that there was.
His fight or flight reflexes were going crazy. He tried to breath calmly as he assessed the situation while Ebony was sneering at the small Lyxxus. She was clearly hostile, and worse yet had backed them into a cave. He could fight his way out but probably wouldn't win unless Moonrose helped. Even then he wasn't sure of her fighting skills though any help at all would do at the moment. Terror welled deep in his throat causing him to drag in ragged breaths. He panicked slightly, now was not a good time for his asthma to act up. Brightness froze as she turned those sharp green eyes on him and said,"And you too, shouldn't you be back in the den with mommy, don't they teach mafia pups to defend their borders, not make friends with every wolf that enters." she sneered at the young hybrid "Or are you to cowardly that even the mafia has given up on you. Poor poor Brightness what ever will you do now? Leave and you are dead, stay and you are dead, make a choice"
At this Brightness snapped out of his fright. She had been following them, eve's dropped on them. She was the rustle in the bush. Cowardly,ha, of course thats what she thought of him. Because thats what he had wanted Moonrose to think of him. Cowardly, as if anyone who spent a year in the tortuous Mafia could be such a thing. This wolf underestimated him and now he had the advantage.
He was about to charge when Moonrose's words about faking his death. This could be his chance to escape, if he played his cards right. Yet either way he was free. This though caused a calm to run though Brightness. This was the ultimate test. The young wolf had survived this long, facing death wasn't a rare occurrence for him.
So instead of a head on attack he taunted, letting his meek act drop altogether," Yes, yes, lets crawl into the den with Mother, let Nightmare attack me and break my bones. Feed off the scraps of the others and pray to survive another day. Poor, poor Ebony, are you so frightened of the Mafia that you would attack a pup?" He growled, his wings extended and the scruff of his neck exposed, giving her an easy target.

Moonrose's fur bristled and she bared her fangs in a snarl, staring at Ebony. She never thought she'd see her here either and she wasn't exactly happy about it either. The last time she had met with the hybrid, it didn't exactly go as friendly as Moonrose had hope. She allowed a snarling bark to escape her throat at the panther's comment.
"Ebony..." She spat. "What are you doing here?"
The Lyxxus was caught off guard when Brightness's attitude suddenly changed, turning into that of what a real Mafia wolf's attitude would be like. He looked as though he wanted to charge and the Guardian was on terms with him, but then he stopped, revealing his neck by opening his wings. He was purposely giving her something to strike. Moonrose was about to call him insane, but her own words rang in her head, soon realizing that this was a perfect opportunity.
She gave a small snort, keeping her teeth bared at Ebony as she stepped closer, claws unsheathing themselves. "I don't know why you're here, Ebony, but I suggest you leave. You're clearly outnumbered. Besides, I'd hate to have a little recreation of what happened in the Knight's territory."
Moonrose crouched down with her fur sticking out, three tails lashing wildly. Her sapphire eyes were blazing with an intense fire, clearly showing her disliking of the hybrid before her. Her chest rumbled, her whole body trembling as she prepared to attack Ebony.

Ebony was took a step backwards taken aback at the change of attitude in Brightness as he taunted her, then spread his wings showing his throat. He was not the weakling she thought he was, he was more like a mafia wolf now more than ever. Then Moon spoke telling her to leave then crouching down ready to attack. Sure she was outnumbered but she was larger than both of them and more deadly in her panther form. She was confused momentarily because of the change of mood but she quickly shook it off.
Snarling Ebony leaped not for Brightness but for Moonrose slamming Moon into the wall then digging her claws into her back, slamming her head into the rocks. She was now in a blind rage and would mostly kill if no one stopped her. She hissed with satisfaction as she saw blood coat the crimson fur of the lyxxus. She lunged once more grabbing her scruff lifting her into the air then dropping her to the ground. "You can't tell me what to do" she snarled with rage. She lifted her huge paw and raked her claws across Moons left eye.
She then turned to Brightness and lunged for his neck, purposely missing instead grabbing his wing, tearing a few feathers from it, and swung him into the cave. She walked towards him her pupils so thin they were barely visible. Her white teeth glinting her hair dripping. She was starting to calm down but not fully so could easily ignite again.
