So that is where she headed now, toward the scent of frozen earth and snow.
***
Two days had passed and Lyra had reached the tundra and had been wandering around searching for the scents of the Empire. A loner she had passed by had said they were recruiting, and since they were mostly yagi, she had assumed they would be kind and welcome her in, but if a fight was needed to enter -like her old pack- she would fight to her fullest. She lifted her nose to the air, her antlers reaching for the sky, she caught a scent lingering on the breeze, and followed it hopefully toward her new home.
She ran, feeling the cool wind rush through her fur and hear it whistling through her antlers. She was fully aware of how much her green and brown pelt stood out against the snowy tundra, She stopped and sat down proud and tall, hoping to use her antlers as a beacon to the wolves of the empire, hoping they will see her not as a threat but as a member.

The spring sun brought some semblance of warmth to the tundra. Now that Cupressus had a few soldiers to patrol for her, she was not at the borders often. However today, she was hunting, and her tracking brought her near one of the borders. She had her nose to the packed snow, trotting swiftly as she went. At that moment she was unaware that an intruder was near her. Only when a breeze hit her face did she smell a new mammal in the vicinity.
The small yagi lifted her head and her poorly docked tail in dominance. Sure having a longer tail as a yagi was usually a mark of dishonor, but she had earned her rank as Empress in this land. She lifted her head and lifted it so her long, thin water-buck horns would be prominent. She came over the ridge and saw another yagi. At first she thought it was Seven, the alphess of the Knights. But upon closer inspection it was a completely new female.
Cypress growled a warning, "Who are you, and why are you in my territory?" The other female was taller and heavier than she was, but Cypress didn't care. She would not allow strangers in her home, unless they were looking to join.

She was small and had a poorly docked tail, she looked that of a low rank. But the way she stood and spoke suggested different.
Lyra walked up to the wolf feeling no fear only nervousness but confident, questions were wizzing through her mind but she pushed them to the back of her mind for now. "I am Lyra, and i mean no harm to you or your pack" she said confidently bowing her head so that her antlers touched the ground. She lifted her head, "I only wish to join, I have many skills and would be a great addition. I will be forever loyal to the great leaders of this pack you call the Empire. She stood tall and strong hoping to make a good impression on this high ranked wolf.

She felt the judging eyes on her that only yagi cast on her. She never liked it, but she had learned in her years of life to push past it and show what she was capable of. Her eyes narrowed, suspiciously at the speech the female gave her, but said nothing to interrupt. Once Lyra said her piece, only then did she speak to clear the air and establish dominance even further.
" I am Cupressus, Empress of the Balkamir Yikaxy Empire. By joining you are pledging loyalty to me and my own." She was still a proud yagi despite her heritage, she wanted to make sure that she could trust those under her to remain there. She was fit and capable of running a pack, she even had established some diversity of species since she had taken the reins.
She walked a careful circle around the new female, assessing her physical strength and apparent health. Not many were able to live in the harsh environment of the tundra, so those that wanted to join the pack needed to have a certain physique about them. To be honest, she was not worried about yagi surviving the tundra, however she wanted to make it very clear that she was in charge and her word was law in this land.

She certainly didn't expect to hear a pledge recited by memory. It wasn't unusual for some yagi packs to have loyalty pledges like that, but she was never allowed to learn them. So there was a bit of jealousy in her heart, yet there was a certain bit of pride that swelled up inside. Take that mother...father...you didn't think I was worthy to know a pledge...yet here is a yagi pledging to me.
She let the female hold the bow for a while, studying her patience and strength. Once she was satisfied she spoke again, "You may rise. And you look like you could be a soldier. Your strength would be put to use guarding and patrolling the borders of the land." She stepped back to allow the female room to stand up. Sure she was smaller than Lyra, but at least Cypress had the power in the Tundra.

Her pack had always called the clearing in the forest the camp, the place where they made their dens, talked while sharing newly caught prey, and had pack meetings. She hoped she would be able to understand the ranks and customs as easily as she had understood her previous packs. She knew she would, she would grow to learn them. Excitement was swelling up inside her, hopefully she would find a mate and have a family continuing her bloodline for generations, and live the life a proud yagi should, in a pack with a family. She silently whispered to herself, "A New Place, A New Home, A New Life."[/ul][/scrolly]

She nodded her approval of the newly named soldier. By the time her pups came, the pack would finally be well rounded and thriving. There seemed to be no better time to bring young souls into the world. She listened carefully to Lyra, "Well, I will take you to the dens. We also have most meetings there. I warn you, there are other species of wolves in the pack. Don't be surprised. Our two other soldiers are keiyou, so I trust that you three can figure out tactical advantages from that combination." She wanted to make sure all her pack we well informed about the goings on.
She turned to head back to the Snowhills, to get the new member settled. She could go a few more hours without food. She began walking home, ready for the new addition to her pack.
