The beauty of an ever changing landscape was that, given enough time, some spots ended up changing less than others. Nestled within the rolling dunes was a rare bit of flat land. The winds would sprinkle it from time to time but for the most part it remained secluded and level, as if a steam roller had compacted it into a solid mass unable to be significantly deformed. Red eyes appraised it hungrily, delighted in what they saw.
Even with her vision failing on her again, Ma'at looked far beyond the landscape. She wasn't seeing a flattened piece of desert. Instead, her sight was a little more abstract. As she stood on the crest of a higher dune, decaying flesh drying in the hot sun, the barren scene before her took on an entire life of its own.
The figures of many wolves (all figments of her imagination) toiled in the wretched heat, many lugging rocks and stones and other odds and ends towards the center of the flat. Steadily growing in the center was a rather shapeless form. It towered higher than the dunes, an odd construction of earthen materials and back breaking labor, watching over the Kingdom with as looming a shadow as the Pharaoh herself. It was a monument. Yes. Once Ma'at had found herself enough subjects she would force them to build her a monument.
Letting the dream slip away, hints of desire left their mark on her slipping face. A greedy smile tilted up the corners of her mouth, lips parted just enough to reveal missing teeth. This little piece of never changing landscape would be drastically changing soon enough. It would not be long before she set her subjects to the difficult task. But first... First she needed a few more subjects. The desert really wasn't conducive to attracting wanders, even with her "never leave" policy of enslavement.

Jaromir had returned later on in the winter though and had succeeded in slipping into the lands with Aroha and Inkumbulo and the Eremus had certainly been delighted to see the three of them. They kept close now, coming and going as normal, slipping in and out of the lands without anyone noticing them. It was a miracle really, though Chiumbo wasn't questioning it, he'd simply accept it.
Today Jaromir had wandered around at his side, the large lupus had questioned him about how things were going here so far if he planned on staying. Things didn't seem so bad, though Chiumbo was lonely without one of his friends constantly around him, and he had told the giant this. He put this down to the pack itself being quiet though, not many people had joined so far, he suggested that maybe one of them should go and see if they could find others to guide here and with a goodbye Jaromir had left the Eremus alone again to see what Aroha, and most importantly Kumbulo thought to the plan. Of course, if anyone had watched the scene playing out, all they would have noticed was the Eremus seemingly talking to himself and pausing to stare at something in the distance before walking again.
His walk led him to the flat expanse that his leader, the Pharaoh was gazing over. Her unique scent met his nose first and soon he could see her ahead, her back turned as she stared at the desert. "I hope she isn't going mad..." He mused quietly to himself as he continued towards her. It would be rude to not acknowledge his superior and so he circled round to the front of her, stopping and dipping his head politely, he didn't speak though, keeping his head bowed until she acknowledge him and spoke.

So engrossed in her territory was she that the female didn't realize her guest right away. Aside from being caught up in her own thoughts, he was a quiet little thing; being built for the desert helped with that. It was only when she dipped her head to cough and spit out a tooth that she noticed Chiumbo at all. Her tongue ran against her dry lips as her red eyes caught his form, head returning to a noble height as she watched him with arched brow. Truth be told, her possessions never ceased to amuse her. Maybe it was because they were still alive.
"Ey now, you're the lit'l'un. Tell me, wat d'ya see?" Her grin was still in place as she acknowledged his presence with a slight nod of her head before trying to direct his attention to the expanse before them. She was curious. What could this little Eremus (whose name she honestly wasn't quite sure of) tell her about the sands. He was a desert breed, after all. Surely he would hold a deeper understanding of what was out there and what it could become.
Who knows. Maybe if he gave her a satisfying answer she would let him in on her grand scheme. So what if he was just a peasant? A peasant was still a pawn and all pawns were valuable. He was a creature she owned, a creature she could use to fulfill her will. Might as well use him to his fullest. Maybe he could give her monument a more definite shape. Or, maybe he would have no insights at all. Either way, Ma'at was sure his thoughts would not be a waste of her time.

It rose slightly higher still as he twisted his neck, peering over his shoulder for a second before looking back to the Pharaoh and again letting it drop slightly as he did so. Now he decided it would be easier to turn around fully to look at the space he was requested to, and so did just that, backing up so that he was just about inline with Ma'at, though he still kept distance between them.
Now his bright eyes paid attention to the land before him, trying to work out what he could see. It was certainly an odd question, surely Ma'at could see for herself that there was the sands of the desert before them and all around. Was it some sort of trick?
"The desert." The eremus responded glancing momentarily to Ma'at. He'd chosen to try answer it anyway, surely it would be far worse not to. "Your desert, I suppose if someone were to be more precise about it."

Ma'at chose to weigh his words carefully, letting them dance about within her brain before settling down for permanent storage. He saw a desert, the desert, her desert. "My desert." Her voice crackled around words, over enunciating. Again the corners of her mouth crinkled up as her visions of the future played out like a home movie on a projector. Figures moved out her desert, building her monument. It was a pleasant thought.
Turning red eyes upon the Eremus, she looked thoughtful for another long moment. Then another question formed, her head tilting quizzically to one side innocently as she asked. "And wat d'ya see in my desert?" The Mortui wanted more detail, a better picture of how others saw her land. Considering her eyesight was often faulty, the added images were beneficial. More than that, however, she wanted to piece together a Kingdom built upon the back of her servants. She could not do that if she could not first understand them.

The eremus was certainly rather confused by the Pharaoh at this moment, the desert was the desert. There was no one else around them at this moment, there was nothing to see. Despite this, the mortui seemed convinced there was more to the area before them than just the desert and the sandy coloured wolf frowned slightly as he tried to work it out.
Nothing. All he could see was sand. Maybe it was some kind of trick as he had first suspected. "Sand..." he answered simply, his tone somewhat careful. There were a few cacti around as well, though they were barely visible from the current position, far off into the distance. His eyes shifted at this, peering out of the corner and glancing towards Ma'at.

Sand... Such a simple, obvious answer. With that, Ma'at lost some hope. This Chiumbo was a very literal fella. He seemed to have no imagination at all. Either that, the pair were simply the farthest thing from being tuned into the same frequency. The Mortui wasn't exactly the most conventional of canines. Her thought pattern never failed to be sporadic, dictated by whichever parts of her brain were in least need of repair rather than any sort of true logic.
"In due time, ya will see it." A nod of her head accented her words. "Yes. Soon, all will see wat I see." At that point she had turned back to the barren expanse of land, staring out at her chosen monument site with passionate red eyes. All she needed was a few wolves to be put to work. Once she had that, construction could commence. Then, the towering sculpture that bore into her minds eye would soon be visible to all who dared to enter the desert lands.
