Seagulls called plaintively to one another as they waited for the first fish of the day. A chilly breeze stirred up a few grains of sand and caressed the tufts of grass as a solitary figure walked easily across the shifting earth.
The tall, slender sennyo moved gracefully with her cold eyes fixed to the gray horizon. It was odd how often she ended up on this beach. To her it was the epitome of solitude. The crashing waves, the calling birds, the vastness that was the ocean. Getting away from the arid, dry canyon was nice, refreshing even.
Gypsy's silky black fur was tussled a little, a few stray grains of sand. Her blue butterfly wings and antenna twitched a little as she moved. She moved to the tide line and let the waves puddle and waft over her small paws. She had no surface thoughts at the moment, it was almost as if she was reflecting, meditating.

A tall, dark Sennyo wandered the sandy coast restlessly. He was rather surprised and annoyed that the Mafia hadn’t sent him out on any sort of assignment. Most packs he had joined had almost immediately made use of his special abilities, and he was beginning to wonder if it had been a mistake to align himself with them. The pack was full of rather unsavory individuals, and while he didn’t really care what the other wolves busied themselves with, it would simply make extraction a bigger hassle than it had to be. Regardless, he wasn’t going to gain anything just sitting around. And so he had taken it upon himself to wander, being sure to avoid any packlands for the time being.
His blue butterfly wings flapped restlessly on his back. His antenna shook gently in the warm breeze, a reminder that spring was finally upon them. His navy blue eyes blended in well with the dark gray and brown tones of his pelt. Although he was capable of moving almost without sound, he made no move to conceal himself for the moment. Faces drifted though his mind, a silent reminder of his seemingly never ending quest. How long had it been anyway? There was no way of knowing, and it really didn’t matter.
And then he saw another like him. Very like him in fact. He tilted his head slightly. She seemed to be alone. He approached her slowly, in a casual manner. If she didn’t want to talk to him, he wouldn’t pursue her, but talking to her was certainly better than sitting around in the jungle. And you never knew what information someone might have…

She turned slowly and saw another black sennyo coming toward her. Had Swifty followed her all the way out here? Why in the hell would she do that?
She glared at the oncomming.....male? She turned to face him, her cold blue eyes hard and gaurded. When was the last time she had seen a male sennyo? And why was he the second wolf that looked like they could be related to her by appearance alone? She snorted in indignation, he didn't seem to be threatening. However there was a shadowy figure in the back of her mind that had not been that way either. She stood tall, her white-tipped tail floated up in the air dancing on the ocean breeze.
"What do you want?" Was all she said, her voice bladed in ice.

He raised a brow at what could generously be called her greeting. Her glare was cold but it didn’t bother Gotham too much. He wasn’t exactly here to make friends after all. She stood tall, as though she thought herself very important. And maybe she was. He didn’t really care either way.
“I want information,” he replied honestly. “Probably nothing you’d know anything about though.” He looked her over once more before repeating, “Probably.” She didn’t look familiar to him, outside of a passing resemblance to himself. So he had probably never met her before. She was probably just being forward, not familiar. Probably. He remembered so little of his past it was hard to be certain. And if she was somehow related to his past then she might have the most important information of all. But she probably wasn’t…still the thought nagged on his mind.
“What do you want?” he countered. After all, it never hurt to ask questions.

It was as if he was not all there, she didn't trust it. Then again, he was a male sennyo. The first she had seen in over a century. The last one she had seen had ruined her life and made her what she was today. She took a step back as he spoke to her. Well...his voice was not anything like his so maybe....wait "Information? She gave him a strange look.
Information she most likely did not have. Well why ask if he didn't think she would know? Then again she was the one to start asking questions first. For a moment her eyes fluttered over his body. It had been some time since she had been playful. Then again....the shadow in the back of her mind kept her from attempting that at the moment.
"What kind of information....that I probably don't have?" She allowed herself to smirk a little at that. Sennyo or not, having a male around was nice considering her pack was mostly female at the moment. He didn't seem to be a threat just yet. So maybe 'polite' conversation was in order. If she could manage as much.
Her nose wrinkled a little in distaste at his next question. Her tail twitched a little as she tried to think of a vague answer. She decided quickly enough, "What I want changes day to day.....and even then there are many things." A seagull cawed directly over head, she turned up her face to look at it. Her antenna baubles bounced a little, but she had an ear pinned to the male in case he moved.

Gotham’s ears twitched a bit and he remained alert for any sign that this was some sort of ambush. As long as it remained one on one, he had the clear advantage and could relax a bit. But if there were others nearby or others coming he would lose his advantage and that could be trouble. But this area seemed so isolated that it seemed a silly place to set a random ambush. And traps were normally baited with honey and not the vinegar that this female was dripping with.
He sat down and scratched at his ear with his hind paw. He decided to continue being honest for now. If he felt he said too much, it was an easy fix. “I’m looking for someone. Another Sennyo. Female.” He glanced back over Gypsy. “Nothing like you.” His voice was off hand and almost bored. Gotham could play rough when he thought that the other had something he wanted, but for now he was just testing the waters to see if this female was of any value to him. She probably didn’t have anything he needed, but as a Sennyo she certainly had more to offer him than most short lived wolves.
He followed her gaze to the seagull overhead and chuckled lightly. He always found attempts to be guarded a bit humorous, since it was so easy for him to get to the truth. But the female didn’t know that of course. Here he was being so honest, and she was still playing coy. “All right. Then what is it you want today?”

Oddly enough, that made her more curious about him. She looked back at him, scanning his body with her callous eyes. He seemed capable enough, maybe it was a mate he was searching for. Maybe she had left him. Even though that thought would amuse the more vindictive wolves, it actually hit a chord with her.
"Why would you go looking for them?" Her tone had changed, the bite was temporarily gone, she had softened slightly. Then again, she was not quite asking him that question, she was asking herself, Why didn't you go looking? Maybe she had been searching, she had been wandering every since. She came back to herself. Now she was just jumping to conclusions. He just said he was looking for a female sennyo, that could be many things.
She cleared her throat, allowing her voice to come back with less venom, "If she's nothing like me, then there is another female sennyo in....my pack." That phrase always tripped her up she kept herself so distant it was hard to say that she was very much in the pack or not. She did enough to keep her rank. "If you tell me about her I can tell you if she's anything like Swifty."
His last question was lost on her since she had decided the game would not be worth dredging up memories of her past. So instead of a flirtatious, or witty report, she just looked back across the sea. For today, she was not sure what she wanted, or if she did she wasn't ready to tell him. Maybe she would just attempt to give him information so she would be left in peace. Was that what she wanted?

The change in her manner did not go unnoticed by him. Perhaps he had judged her too soon. Maybe she was like him, a victim of time and fate or whatever it was that seemed to be against him. Such was the curse of their species perhaps. It had been a long time since he had really talked to another of his kind. He had to admit, it was comforting.
At her first question he smiled thinly despite himself. “Because she’s the only thing that ever really mattered.” His tone too had softened. “There’s no way I could not look for her.” Had he always been searching for her? Sometimes it was hard to tell. No, they had been together once. But he no longer remembered how long he had been searching. He just knew he couldn’t stop.
He raised a brow slightly when she mentioned her pack. She didn’t really seem like the type. And if there was only one other female of their kind it certainly didn’t sound like a Sennyo pack. But perhaps she had desired the momentary diversion the short lived ones provided. He had to admit that he was hardly the pack type either, and he frequently found himself in allegiance with one group or another.
The opportunity to talk about her was just too inviting. “Well first of all, her name is not Swifty. But I suppose a name is the easiest thing to change if one grows tired of it.” His gaze drifted out to the water, as he reminisced about her. “Her coat is green, brighter than any green found in nature. On her face, marks swirl like a mask around her eyes, white and blue, like the brightest sky with hints of wispy clouds. Her eyes are like two sapphires, deep and mysterious, but trusting and gentle. Her wings are a swirl of blue and violet, and only the left one flutters when she’s nervous. Her antenna are short, which she thinks is a fault, but really they’re adorable and perfect. She loves rain, but hates swimming. She daydreams but gets embarrassed if others notice. And she believes no day is complete unless you’ve done something new.”
It was so easy to talk about her. The words just flowed. And yet he knew that there was more that he should remember about her. Things that were gone, missing, wiped from his mind. He couldn’t remember the day they became mates. Later, this loss would probably leave him depressed, but for now he was thinking of her, and for now, that was enough.

For once she held her tongue and allowed him to rattle on and on about this female he sought. Sounded like he really loved her. She was actually a little jealous.
She had been that devoted once, but no longer. The shadow in her past had seen to that. This male made it sound like he just misplaced his lover, rather than her leaving him shattered in the dust. Again....she was jealous. She sat down and looked at him critically. How does one misplace their love? Maybe it had not been within his power of control.
Once he finished, she could not help but give a slight chuckle, "Well...Swifty most certainly does not look like that. She looks more like you." She also looked like Gypsy, but Gypsy was vain to boot and didn't want to compare herself to the other. She look a moment and looked back at the ocean, "Honestly...she was the first sennyo I had seen in over a century. I guess I really don't have the information you wanted." She seemed disappointed by that.

Gotham was slightly embarrassed with himself for going on as he had. It wasn’t like him to open himself up like that to anyone, let alone someone he had just met. He blamed it on their breed, affording them some small amount of instant kinship. He considered erasing this embarrassing moment, but several things held him back. He knew the punishment for using his powers, and didn’t want to use them in a selfish fit of pride. He also thought that perhaps this was a good thing. Even if fate was cruel enough to take his memories of her, this female might still remember her, even just a little…
“These lands seem to have more of our kind than most,” he remarked, “but still, sometimes it appears we are a dying breed.” He noticed the disappointment in her voice. “You might not have any information for me now, but maybe someday you will.” He considered it more or less a compliment and the tiny hope that this Sennyo might one day be able to help him made him feel a bit better. And if she was even possibly going to help him he supposed he might as well introduce himself. “I’m Gotham, by the way. I’d like to know your name, but I will warn you that I’m likely to forget it.” The words were a bit harsh, but the tone was honest.

He seemed devoted to a female, yet had no idea where to find her. Life was cruel, she would be the first to admit that. It was odd that she found her guard loosening around him. Kinship to the breed didn't seem likely, considering she did not get on too well with Swifty. However something about him was curious and oddly appealing.
"Yes. I suppose they do." She had seen two others in over a century. It was possible that he was right. "A dying breed? I guess I have not seen many." The possibility of extinction had not really occurred to her. A shame she hated pups so much. Her thought process was broken by his words.
"Well, I wander a lot. So I guess I will keep my eyes out for someone that looks like her. " She closed her eyes to enjoy an ocean breeze as the sun was beginning to appear. The waves were calming to her, though she would not admit it. Her ears twitched as he went on to introduce himself. Gotham. She did not usually give her name easily, however the fact that he could forget it was odd. She looked back at him, here blue eyes meeting his, "Do you remember her name?"

Did he remember her name? It seemed like such a silly question that it made him smile. “Of course, I remember her…” But even as he spoke, the truth was there. His mind reached out to the information that he knew should be there, but it was like trying to grasp at smoke. He dropped his eyes to the ground and drew a few short breaths. He swallowed hard, trying to maintain his composure and make sense of it.
Memory loss was nothing new to the Sennyo, but it was still shocking when it was called to his attention. He never knew what he had forgotten until it came up somehow. How long ago had he forgotten her name? He knew there was no way of knowing, but it didn’t ease the pain at all. It was just another reminder that at some point he would forget her completely, and he wouldn’t even know to miss the memories. He cursed the Great Spirit silently. But there was nothing to do but move on and keep looking for the information that would fill in the gaps.
He looked back up at the female. “No,” he said firmly. “No, I don’t remember her name.” There was a resigned sadness in his voice. “So I understand if you don’t want to bother to tell me yours.”

It was awkward, yet she almost felt sympathetic. Was something wrong with him that caused him to forget? It was all very peculiar. Yet she found her curiosity piqued more than waned. The waves crashed softly against the beach, pulling away handfuls of sand to have them vanish and dissolve into the great abyss. She held her tongue as he gathered himself once more. It was like he was mourning the death of this mystery female. Was she even dead? He didn't even seem to know that. Why look for a dead person?
He seemed to finally resign himself to admit he had forgotten. Her expression was soft, this male was very strange. And very alone. Like her. "I see. Well. It does not matter if you forget my name or not. I will always be me, no matter who remembers. You can call my Gypsy." It was very rare for her to give her name on a first meeting. This Gotham was different though. Maybe the odds of him forgetting overpowered her need for vanity and secrecy.
She kept looking at him with her cold eyes, it was as if she felt sorry for him. She cleared her pretty throat, "Well...at least you remember what she looks like. And now I do too. So if you forget....I can remind you." The words felt funny coming out of her mouth. She was being nice...and comforting. It was bizarre, yet maybe it gave her a sense of closure for her own sorted past.

Gotham was a bit surprised by the events that had befallen him. Was it possible that he had made a friend? He couldn’t remember the last time he’d really had a friend. Not that that amounted to much. Friend was perhaps too strong of a word for it though. Even from what little he knew of her, Gypsy certainly wasn’t the “friendly” type. And neither was he. Associate wasn’t quite right either. He had associates in the Mafia out of necessity. He finally settled on the term comrade in his mind. That seemed to fit.
“Thank you, Gypsy,” he said after her introduction and generous offer. He gave a little bow with his thanks. It was rare that he expressed respect toward other wolves outside of mandatory “respect” required by pack rank. But here it seemed appropriate.
“So,” he continued, hoping to turn the conversation away from himself for a bit, “you mentioned you wander a lot. What is it that takes you from place to place?”

She was never really the helpful type, so that could account for that, she generally hated others and tried to avoid them. The concept was not new, but almost uncomfortable. She backed up out of the surf and rotated to walk past the male, her wing tips barely brushing his. She got his scent as she moved to an exposed rock a few feet away. With an agile little hop, she was on top of it, spun a small circle and then settled to lie on the rock.
"Why do I wander, you ask?" It was an interesting question to be put too. Her jewel like eyes glittered a little in the sun as the wind irritated them a little. " I wander because I can. I don't really like being in once place for very long. Too easy to get attached. I like to see what the world has to offer." It was ironic, she was now tethered to the terrain because she joined a pack. "Every quarter of a century or so, I join a pack, just to remember what it was like. As much as I dislike others, I cannot escape my natural need for them." She gave a mildly amused sigh.
Her white tipped tail floated down to coil around her on the rock. She twitched it occationally, maybe the fact that he was likely to forget made her more willing to be open and honest to him. It was oddly alleviating.
