He turned to face her once she had passed, a lazy smile creeping onto his lips. It was nice to relax, but he still liked to keep a direct line of sight out of habit. He listened to her with his head tilted slightly to the side, drinking in her words.
“Perhaps if it is so easy to get attached, you should be attached,” he mused. “Each place has something to offer, and if you’re not looking for something specific you can always find something wherever you are.” Wandering by choice was not a luxury he had ever had. He wandered because he had to, because he needed to find the answers. And once he found them he could finally stop. He almost envied her for being able to choose her own path, but chased the thoughts off.
He chuckled lightly when she mentioned packs. “I suppose they are somewhat of a necessary evil. They do have their usefulness from time to time. But what is it that makes you dislike others so much?” He couldn’t help but pry a little. It was his nature as a spy; he always had to dig a little deeper, see what he could learn. It wasn’t something he did consciously anymore, it was simply the only way he knew to communicate.

She remained perched on the rock, her tassel of a tail wavering in the sea breeze. Her jewel like eyes narrowed slightly, "I don't want to get attached. Then it makes things difficult to leave behind. I'd rather not care about something so I don't miss it when it is gone." She was dead set on contradicting him at this point. Sure he might have had a good point, but she didn't care. She liked how she did things. "I do see what things have to offer, but that does not mean I need to form a bond with it."
She lifted her nose in a mock-haughty sort of way. Part of her was beginning to flirt, another part of her standing by her way of life. She could not help but agree with his assessment of pack life. When he asked her why she disliked others, she looked back at him with a steely stare. How much was she willing to divulge to the forgetful stranger? Her lips tightened a little and she looked away from him. Gazing into the churning waters of the ocean. She considered her response for once, she decided on a more cynical approach, "It's cliche. I fell in love, I was hurt. That about covers it." She was almost grinding her teeth, sure it was a typical reason, but it had scarred her deeply. She had been formed because of it, and was the bitch she was today all because of poor decisions that lead up to falling in love.
Forming bonds was painful. She preferred no strings attached. Get what you want, get out. No need for emotions other than pleasure, lust and greed. A selfish existence, but an existence nonetheless.

Her words struck a deep chord with him. He also avoided attachment as a rule, thought for a slightly different reason. It was hard to get close to others when you knew you were going to forget them before long. He had been being logical, hoping to keep her talking, but her reasons hit awfully close to home. He talked to others, formed relationships that would help him achieve various goals, but he hadn’t made a single friend since he had left home…however long ago that was. The pain in his chest from forgetting his mate’s name was still like a fresh wound. He nodded solemnly at her words, submitting to her point.
Her slight back story perked up the inquisitive side of his mind. This meeting was a unique opportunity for him. He was conversing with another who was surprisingly similar to him in many ways, and it wasn’t for a mission or any ulterior purpose. She wasn’t the usual type he was able to manipulate information out of easily. He wasn’t sure what made her tick, so he was curious and wanted to dig deeper.
“What if someone could take that old hurt away?” he asked, watching her reactions closely. “If you could erase that pain, would you do it?” It wasn’t quite an offer; he wasn’t willing to tip his hand just yet. But he strangely found himself tempted to offer, depending on her reaction to the idea.

His expression was different than she expected. She pouted her lower lip slightly when he seemed disturbed almost by her past. He asked didn't he? Soon she found herself indignant. She sat up straight and gave him a calculated stare.
Her dainty ears perked up as he asked if she could forget. Did she hear him correctly? She snorted a little, "I doubt I would forget such an experience" Since she was going on the defensive, her words has poisoned barbs in them. "And how would they take it away? Make me forget by lavishing me with affection? Different colors, same outcome." However, as she spoke she could not help but think he meant it literally.
Her white tipped tail twitched, she skeptic in her gave him a wary gaze. Erase him from her memory? She didn't like that idea...sure there were times she wanted to forget, but to actually forget? "I'm not sure running away from it like that would make things better....plus, the memory will keep me from falling into that trap again." She nodded, assertive in her lesson learning.

Gotham watched the female carefully. Clearly the idea didn’t sit well with her, and her voice had that acidic tone again. He was surprised that he was slightly disappointed. A small part of him had hoped that this might be a sign, a chance to do something good with his powers, perhaps a way to help others.
But of course, she would not want to forget. Given the choice that he had never had, he assumed that most wolves would choose to remember. His power would never be anything but a curse.
He almost laughed to himself then. “Seems we are rather similar, you and I. Both driven by a memory we can’t let go of. Although mine prompts me to find someone, while yours reminds you to leave everyone behind.”

Her first reaction would be to bristle and being considered similar to the forgetful stranger. Yet he had wisdom in him. She suspected that he might be older than her, but past the first century or so,,,it was hard to gauge. "Boil it down...and it is because of an individual for each that we came to where we are right now." That bothered her more than she could say....her fate painted because of one male.
She decided sitting on the boulder was not what she wanted anymore. She alighted to the beach and walked past him one more time, caressing him slightly with her tail before wadding out to the surf a little. This male made her think....she was unsure how to deal with that. He was not a bad looking sennyo...the last sennyo she had been with ruined her. Deep down she suspected he would do the same thing given half a chance.
She brooded for a while as the foam of the sea clung to her ankles and shins. Her wings fluttered and her antennae bobbed. She had isolated herself from the world, and he, this Gotham, had plunged into the heart of the world searching for his lover. The resentment caught her by surprise. No one would ever do that for her....

Gotham watched as she walked past him again and was surprised when he enjoyed the light touch of her tail as she went. He didn’t often allow physical contact with others, not out of any fear of it, but rather out of a sense of detachment. He pondered for a moment if he should feel guilty about enjoying the attentions of another female. He didn’t; but he wondered if he should. Surely such a simple gesture wasn’t anything to cause a fuss over. When he found her she wouldn’t be upset over such a little thing as that. And surely she’d know he’d been lonely without her. She’d probably want him to reach out to others and not be so alone.
He was aware that he was not the only one pondering their…relationship. He could tell that Gypsy was feeling some unease as well, although he had no idea exactly what was on her mind. Probably something to do with her past, just as with him. They weren’t so different after all…
“Well, my dear,” he said, “I suppose I should head back. Those with shorter lives than ours have trouble with patience, though I doubt I’ve been missed. Perhaps we will meet again one day.” He stood and smiled a rare smile to her.

Perhaps the conversation had died with their previous lives. The warm surf on her ankles was soothing with the accompaniment of his voice. An odd thought that she was happy to be rid of once she realized he was saying good-bye.
She glanced over her shoulder long enough to see his smile. Her expression was pleasant enough, not quite a smile though. She turned around long enough to see him turn to leave. "Until we meet again...Gotham." There was still a tone of hesitation there. She doubted he would remember her, if his memory was as faulty as he said.
He couldn't even remember his mate's name. She could remember her's.....yet never would she speak it.
