[scrolly:h(300),w(399),sy] The young female was hungry and was having absolutely no luck at catching any prey. She would not stoop as low as to eat an errant frog, the thought revolting as it were. The day was muggy and humid and even her feathers felt heavier, their weight dragging her little body down and sapping up her energy. Growling in a chirping fashion in frustration she hopped from log to log in the swamp, sniffing around for any signs of prey. The constant crocking distracted her quite easily, and she was not able to focus her hearing on the task at hand.
The sun beat through the branches of the mangrove and sparkle lightly on the swamp water's surface, enhancing the effect of the shadows and Citrine tried to stay in the light. Soon she caught sight of a bird sight and preening itself on a rock. If she aimed right, she could flutter over and grasp onto the bird before they knew what was happening. This plan might have worked had she been flying, but as it were she was not. And so as the parrot Myou leapt off her log, her long tail caught in an errant branch and she felt herself being yanked back as her prey flew off in fear.
She flew back like a spring landing with a splash in the murky water. With a squawk of disgust she flew out of the water rapidly, sputtering in disarray as she did. This was terrible, not only was she starving, she was now all wet, the cruelty of the situation did not seem merited. Shaking her self out furiously she fluttered up to a branch in the sun to dry off. As she lay the hot sun quickly dried hr plumage out and she continued on with the task of grooming her colorful fur and feathers. [/scrolly]

Really the swamp didn't suit Spice at all. But if the little Myou really thought about it, he had no other place to go. And every one here was relatively nice. Which actually kinda pissed Spice off. If someone stepped on him, or mistook him as a pup he couldn't even get mad at them because they would apologize right away. After so much time Spice should have been use to it, but he wasn't.
He also couldn't stand the celebrating and the family like feel of the pack. Spice never really liked the crowed common area that the Clan usually gather, so that left the fox-wolf out here. In the heavy air, alone, up to his knees in mud and water. Honestly Spice thought his paws would be stained permanently brown. If his legs were long enough, he could have jumped or used roots to get to the other shore. As it wore his legs weren't so he had to wade through getting soaked and dirty. Though it wasn't that bad. It did take some of the burn off from the simmering summer heat. From the desert to a swamp. What a severe change of location.
An indignant squawk caught Spice's attention as well as the murky water and mud that splattered him from the wolf's fall. The wolf immediately jumped back out of the water and flew up into the trees. 'A Kieyou?' Spice thought at first glance," No she's to colorful. She must be like the Alpha.'
He hauled himself out of the water and onto the log the female had occupied before her splash down. Spice looked up at the Myou now preening herself. He used to be like that, trying to keep his soft golden fur clean, but he had given up the futile attempt. He was just in the water too much to care, and there was no one to impress anyway.
"Hey!" He called up to her, " You want to be more careful when you decide to take a dip? You splattered me you know!"

[scrolly:h(300),w(399),sy] Shocked and rather surprised at the sudden sound of a voice Citrine jumped up and fell off the branch, heart beating furiously. She managed to grab on a lower branch with just her two front legs and was left desperately scrambling to get back to safety. I simply cannot fall back into that murky water she though furiously and with a last flap of hr wings she managed to scrape her way on the branch.
She glared down at the wolf whom had almost caused her to fall and surely break her neck on the way down. She let out a series of mad chirps as she stuck her head down and angled it to see from where the voice had came from. From below she could make out the form of a rather small wolf, tiny to be precise. It was only her sharp eyesight that recognized that he did not have the proportions of a pup...What species of a wolf could he be?
She floated down from the branch to land safely on a flat rock above the water line. Fluffing up she replied, " So sorry, I did not realize you were there. And I wasn't taking a dip I was merely minding my own business and then I fell and why is this place so difficult to maneuver in and I was just trying to prove I could hunt and..." She paused to catch her breath silencing her sing song voice and sniffing in frustration. The little parrot myou was now quite worked up as it did not take much to rile the young female. She quivered slightly in the receding sun; her fur and feathers were not entirely dry and her small frame could not keep her warm easily. Citrine wrapped her wings tightly around her body and swung her long feathery tail to cover the spots her wings had missed. [/scrolly]

Spice's fur stood on end as he watched the colorful wolf start to plummet. He hadn't meant for his words to surprise her that way. For a long moment he didn't breath until the winged wolf caught a branch and hauled herself up. The small Myou let out a sigh of relief. Though is was short lived as piercing chirps forced him to scrunch up his face and fold his ears back in discomfort. Definitely not a Keiyou, they didn't chirp.
He watched warily as Citrine drifted down to a flat rock and proceeded to get angry and flustered. Spice let out another sigh, this time one of dismay. He really should learn to pick his battles. He really didn't need all this hassle. The golden brown wolf watched as a shivering Citrine wrapped herself up in her feathers.
"Alright, alright, I get it," Spice huffed, golden eyes scanning the murky water. Once his target was spotted he scrapped off a piece of bark from the trunk and chucked it into the water. It splashed with a plunk and caused the school of flying fish who had been whimsically swimming to go into a frenzy. They jumped out of the water and went every which way. Spice's hunches bunched and he jumped for one just as it flew over head. He caught it in his small jaws and quickly chomped down to stop it from squirming. He tossed the dead fish to Citrine.
"Eat that," Spice ordered," Then we'll make our way back to the dens. It's warmer there," He looked away as he talked gruffly. Spice settled down to clean some of the mud off his chest but one eye kept peaking at his companion to see if she ate.

[scrolly:h(300),w(399),sy] Eyes gleaming with interest, Citrine watched as the smaller wolf fished up some flying fish. She never knew there could be such a thing and she leaned forward dangerously to follow his methods. When he flicked a fish at her she jumped up in surprise, was he trying to kill her with a fish? She hadn't realized she'd made him that mad...Oh wait, he had caught the fish for her to eat. She giggled out loud, amused at her own ridiculous antics. She glanced at the morcel of food suspiciously, it was not particularly visually appetizing to say the least, however she was certainly hungry and the male had been nice enough to fetch it out for her. So she ceremoniously gobbled it up, making sure to clean her maw thoroughly after eating.
For a second she paused to watch him clean the mud up, amused by his golden eyes that still seemed to watch her movements. He was a funny fellow to be sure, if not a bit gruff around the edges. Despite his small size he seemed to handle himself much better then her and she secretly wished she could learn that hunting technique he had used on the unsuspecting fish.
She chirped up in a calmer voice, as calm as her high energy parrot would let her, and said, "Thanks so much for the fish, how ever did you learn such a trick? I would love to be able to fish like that...though I'd probably fall in again. How do we get to the dens? I hope there will be others there for you see I’ve only met Dreamith, Nelio and you, whoever you may be. I am Citrine by the way. How rude of me to have forgotten to mention that. I hope you don't despise me too much, I really didn't mean to get your fur dirty." She smiled apologetically. [/scrolly]

Citrine asked a lot of questions, much like another young wolf he had know long ago. He had taught her too, until she moved on. This reminded him of why he became a teacher in the first place, though he hadn't had many wolves to teach as of late. "Calm down," Spice huffed, "One question at a time."
Spice stood and shook out his golden fur, flinging off some of the dried caked mud. He studied the younger Myou. It wouldn't be a bad thing teaching her. And maybe she wouldn't abandon him like the other had. " I'm Spice. The mud isn't that big of a deal. It's not like you can help but be covered in it when your this small. I stopped caring years ago. Anyway, I'll teach you the hunting trick then take you back to the dens. Alright?"
Spice didn't really wait for an answer and jumped straight into instruction mode. "First," he said, eyes once again scanning the water. It had been long enough for the school to have regrouped after his last attack. "You find were the fish are. It can be difficult but look for many flashes of silver just beneath the surface."
He walked along the surface of the trunk to get closer to Citrine. I pointed to a point in the water where the surface rippled occasionally. "Then you take a pebble or a chunk of bark. Something small to startle them. And they will go flying. All you have to do is wait for them to come to you." He nodded for here to give it try.
