(OOC note: While this is an open thread, I'd prefer it if you didn't bring your charrie in if they're going to try overly hard to prevent her leaving. I don't want her dead JUST yet.)
Riccarda had finally found the courage.
After days worrying, thinking, planning, hiding, she had finally found the courage.
She had made her decision. Riccarda was leaving the mafia.
It hadn't been easy to lose her family and pack; she had a habit of wandering off, talking to her animals and playing her games. Nobody questioned the fact that Riccarda was nowhere to be seen. She was never anywhere to be seen.
She slunk from shadow to shadow, most of the animals ignoring her as she'd asked, pretending she wasn't there. If any of them spoke about it and her siblings heard... Kit, for instance... no, she wouldn't think about that. She would concentrate on her task.
Slinking through the darkness, working hard on keeping quiet even with her limp. The tension was building up all through her, keeping her high strung and on edge, even the slightest sound making her freeze in terror. She knew exactly how dangerous this was. She had been warned before not to wander. This was many, many times worse than wandering.
Finally she began to see a hint of sunlight through the shade of the trees. For a wolf who'd spent her entire life under the gentle shade of the jungle canopy, it was blinding, and she spent several minutes hidden inside a bush while she slowly allowed her eyes to open a little more every time she felt used to the light.
Finally.
She was there, all of a sudden, and it hit her. She forgot to hide, feeling herself go limp with awe as all the tension left her. She stood, poised, on the very edge of the Jungle, perched on the outer limit of her entire reality, everything she'd ever known.
She took a deep breath and was about to hurl herself outside when she hesitated, and then her ears caught the merest hint of... something. That was when her nose finally picked up the scent and she squeaked in fright.
There was another wolf nearby.
