She rested on the sands of the beach, staring out at the horizon as the late afternoon sun began to sink lower and lower to what would be considered sunset. The female was watching intently with her copper flecked, silver eyes as it did this. Her golden scaled fish tail rested mostly in the water, swaying back and forth with the small waves that washed themselves upon the beach. Her brown fur was slightly damp as she rested so close to the ocean. The young Cael was content as the sat there, despite all of the things resting on her mind.
Her name was Tawny, a name she had been given because of the coloring of her scales. She had often been made fun of for them as well, as they were much different than anyone else's. However, that was all resting in the past and she had moved away from it. It didn't bother her much anymore, but what did was the fact that her pack was so inactive. The Clan had no pups for the girl to teach, leaving her to do as she pleased every single day. It was almost as if she had never joined a pack in the first place. She didn't want to admit it, but she seriously wanted someone in the pack to get knocked up so she could teach a pup.
Tawny sighed, shaking her head lightly. She had to face facts at that point. There was nothing there for her to do in the Clan anymore. She had been attendant in the Clan for much too long and she had nothing better to do than lounge idly in whatever territory was close enough for her to do so in. She hated that she was useless and she wished to do something about it. She wanted to start something, something phenomenal. She lashed her tail angrily in the water, making a large splash in the ocean water. Tawny didn't know what to do or how to do it, but she was aware of one thing that was absolutely obvious: it couldn't be done alone.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [bg=00c5cd] Lio had a bounce in his step that he never knew he could have before this moment. He did feel guilty about leaving the Clan without talking to Sunchaser, but he had tried howling and searching high and low for her and found nothing. It was a stagnant place, and Lio had become too content there, too familiar with all the sites, and yet completely unfamiliar to all the pack members. It didn’t feel like home and more than not he found himself throwing himself off the cliffs into the Cove like Sylva had done the one time they had spent the night there. That had been an adventure, THAT had been fun! It was because of this memory that he headed back to the cove, and back to the ocean he found so comforting.
It would seem however that he was not the only one here, and that did not bother him one bit, you see Lio had an idea in mind that may have shocked many Cael, but he knew someone out there had to be like him. They had to want more like he did, life was not supposed to be this drab especially not for a male of his stature. He had thought back to the home he had had with his family, but the likelihood of finding that perfect place again..with the perfect female, or females, and settling down, did not seem as appealing to him as it had initially, and this for some reason bothered him more than most. Was he dreaming higher than a Cael was supposed to? Was his mind reaching into a recess that could go too deeply?
Even when his family had been tragically removed from their home, their travels together had not been so horrible. They had all seen many welcome and unique sites that he might have otherwise missed if he had never left their little territory. He ached for that feeling again, that feeling of utter and complete freedom, seeing other places, meeting other wolves. In something other than a pack setting. If he could maybe convince other Cael that they could be more useful than just fishermen, or for patrolling borders…let’s face it. Cael were graceful in water, but more than likely clumsy and slow on land, which did not make them great warriors..BUT with their voices and water techniques couldn’t they be entertainers? The idea was sprung like a trap in his head and the excitement carried him all the way to the Cove.
He did however recognize a scent that was close to the Clan in nature and wondered what another Clan wolf was doing here…well he was an ex Clan member but still. He figured they were probably doing what he used to do all the time, escape from where they were. He watched from a distance while the female slapped the water with her tail, causing waves in what looked to be an irritated manner, and he couldn’t help but emphasize but he had removed what had been causing him that irritation and so now he was free. Free to implement ideas and travel the world! But one last sunset in the Cove wouldn’t hurt him. He trotted down the path to the sands and came to sit a few feet away from the female.
He was far enough away from the water that he would not get soaked, or change but close enough to enjoy the beautiful colors stretching across the gently lapping sea. He knew before he left on his travels that he would be in the salty water in no time, enjoying the cleansing effect the salt and sand had on his pelt and scales, and the winds buffeting the cliffs made for cool days and cooler nights. He had so much love for this place, having met so many interesting wolves here, and had so many adventures. This place was what had put the idea in his head to travel and to meet others. He turned to the female and smiled, “So you are a Clan wolf too hmm? Aren’t you bored, is that why you are here? I know I was…” He chose not to tell her off the bat he had left the Clan due to his itchy paws or the boredom he faced but instead faced the sea again and said softly, “It’s beautiful here…I always liked escaping here..”

The male's sudden appearance didn't really bother Tawny. She had smelled him before she had turned to see him sitting there beside her a few feet away. At least he was respectful enough to keep his distance when approaching a total stranger. However, perhaps they weren't much strangers to one another at all. She had never met him face to face, but there were the slightest traces of the Clan's scent on him. They almost appeared to be gone, as if he had decided to leave the Clan behind him and just go. She had pondered doing such things more than once, as it was a desirable thing to do when in her position. At least a higher ranking wolf would have more to do than she did. As a teacher, she needed pups to be in the pack for any part of what her job was supposed to be to work.
Her thoughts on the scent he carried were only confirmed when he verbally asked if she was one as well. "Yes." Was all she needed to say. She was a part of the Clan and she was proud of the fact that she had managed to find a home that would accept her for who she was and not what she looked like. However, she had barely come across any wolves of the pack other than Sunchaser and her sister, Jade. She was the beta female of the pack and, as much as she wanted to leave, she didn't really want to leave Jade behind. She loved her, but she was tired of living in the place she did. There was nothing for her there and there was nothing for her if she were to leave. She simply wished she had some type of opportunity presented to her, one where she could have something to do and have fun doing it.
Tawny could only assume that there was a possibility that he had left the Clan by what he said. He used past tense verbs, meaning something had come and gone. It did not seem like he was still in the Clan either way. She barely was, as she spent most of her time in the cove. It was to her liking more than the swamp was. There were no gators or fanged fish to get her while she swam. She wouldn't have to worry about getting tangled in the mangrove roots or having trouble seeing through murky, muddy waters while she swam. Here the water was clean and clear, perfect for living in. Besides, she was more so adapted to the salt water than to the fresh water. The difference was significant indeed and changing from one to the other had put stress on her scales. They had flaked an outer layer, like shedding them almost, for nearly a month. It was an awful thing and she came to swim in the cove periodically to make it stop.
"Yes...there is nothing more beautiful than the way the sun touches the horizon, hanging above the water with such grace. Perhaps something new and full of life is more beautiful than this, but it is still lovely nonetheless." Tawny glanced at the sunset once, then returned her gaze to the male. "I am Tawny. I am a Teacher for the Clan." For that part of her introduction it was all she needed to say, for she was more interesting on how he asked if she was bored. The question had passed, but it still lingered. "I am bored, indeed. There are no pups in the Clan for me to teach, so it basically renders me useless. I am practically free to do as I wish when I wish. That's not how a pack should work. I spend most of my time here, thinking if I should leave the Clan. I want to start something...extraordinary. Something worth doing with my life rather than being part of a pack that does next to nothing."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [bg=00c5cd] As the sun was setting many thoughts occurred to Lio, he had left Dreamith behind, even though she had disappeared, had he let the Clan down by leaving? Was it something that could have been avoided, could he have done anything different and actually been happy there? He was full of questions for himself and of himself, and what he would do now. He had an idea forming in his head but it would take more than one person to really succeed and he wondered now sitting by the other female if she was going to stay in the Clan or feel as he did, that there was nothing that could be done there for either one of them. It was a hard scenario to be in, especially once you felt loyalty for one person or pack.
He nodded to her saying she was a part of the pack, but he assumed many of the members of the swamp came here, there just seemed so much wrong with the swamp for Cael, at first glimpse, it’s beauty and rare flowers were alluring. But as time passed the murky water, debris that lay in wait, the serpents and dangerous animals, it was a lot for a wolf to deal with who already had the burden of lugging their own tail about on land. It seemed that you could never escape the water unlike the Cove where you could skitter along the lines of the water, always jumping back in enough time to avoid getting truly wet, it could be a fun game if you were given to such inclinations.
“I decided to leave the Clan…there was nothing for me to do, even with my being the Beta male. There just wasn’t enough to keep me tied down to that swamp…so I came here before I head off…I intend to do some traveling, maybe do some performing for other packs, so that I can get out there and meet others, and get rid of this horrible feeling of boredom and stagnancy, I want more..” He didn’t know how she would respond to his overwhelming need to make more of himself but he also knew he could not be the only one that felt this way, and had the need to travel and meet other wolves. He would always have a special place in his heart for Dreamith and other Cael, after all they were his species, and there would always be a strong connection, but variety was the spice of life.
“Tawny, I am Nelio and I agree that there is nothing more beautiful than what we are watching now. But on a more somber note I feel as you do, a pack should not work in that way, you should not find yourself spending more time in other areas than those of your pack. This is why I left. I also want to come up with something very special, and unique to do, which is when I came up with the idea to travel and perform. After all, Cael are naturally graceful right? Most of us can sing better than any other wolf can’t we? Aren’t we meant for more than what we have been doing?”
He was almost pleading for an answer, he desperately wanted another wolf to agree that they were meant for more than just patrolling borders, or grabbing a fish on the fly, or trying to awkwardly hunt for a pack that seemed to be non-existent. He sighed while turning his metallic eyes back to the setting sun, now hitting the water ahead of them. “Is it just a stupid pipe dream?” He wanted to hear from another Cael that maybe he was disillusioned by his own depression, but his normal confidence had been shaken by his leaving his pack and everything behind. He also asked to see the female’s reaction to maybe see if another Cael was interested in the idea as he was..

Tawny had almost been ashamed to admit what she had, about feeling bored with the Clan and having nothing to do. Even in the most indirect way, she had been rendered useless by the entirety of the pack. She had not seen another Clan wolf in days and to her it was a deeply disturbing thing. How bad was the rut that the Clan had fallen into? She desperately wished there was something there for her to do, but there was not. She was greatly relieved to hear he had felt the same way about the pack, especially considering the rank he had held within the pack. An immediate respect leaped forward for him, but she did not know why. Perhaps it was because of the rank he had held. She shrugged to herself, he was not in the Clan anymore and she had never met him. There was really no need for it.
Boredom and stagnancy seemed to be an understatement to the golden scaled Cael. To her, it was almost as if the pack had been wiped out by a plague of some sort. Not having seen a member in awhile had worried her, yes, but there was nothing she could do about it. After all, she was just the measly Teacher who was nothing but a useless lump to the Clan. At least, that was how she had seen it. Just as the male beside her, she wanted more. She wanted more in her life and she wanted to do something spectacular to prove to everyone that she was a useful being. She smiled at the thought, then waved her tail in and out of the water some more. The small water droplets scattering from her tail caught the rays of the setting sun, causing not only themselves, but her tail to glitter as well. Oh how she loved water.
Nelio? A fitting name for the male in her mind. Perhaps he was right about her spending more time at the Cove than in the Clan's lands. It was wrong in many ways for her to do so and like a good pack member she should have remained on her own lands. However, the fresh water was uncomfortable for her scales and she much more preferred the salt water, as she had grown up in it. It was when his proposal of a traveling performer's group that her attention had been fully ripped away from the setting sun. His questions followed and she nodded to each of them. Yes, Cael were graceful. Yes, Cael were phenomenal singers. The last question was one to debate about. Were they meant for more than what they had been doing? She wondered that, too, and pondered the possibility of her doing something that she was not normally meant to do.
He sounded desperate almost for her answer and she wanted to give it to him. However, the thought of a traveling performer's group was a long shot thing to go after. It would be a difficult thing to obtain and begin, but it was a lovely idea. She loved the thought of getting away from her pack and traveling about. Tawny gazed at him with her metallic eyes, a comforting smile on her face, "It is not a stupid pipe dream. It is an amazing idea. The thought of traveling around the lands and meeting every pack is simply enticing." She turned away and began to pull herself out of the water, shaking her body loose of the droplets. She was dry enough at that point and returned to her usual lupine form. She had plain brown fur, but her eyes were still silver with their little copper flecks. They were the only intriguing thing in this form.
She faced the male. "However, I, for one, am embarrassed of what I can do. It's not much like me to sing in front of others. In fact, there isn't a wolf around here who has heard me sing." Tawny felt something akin to shame upon saying such things. Although, that was the truth to it fullest, and she was not afraid of telling others such things. She sighed, "I realize there is nothing for me to do in the Clan any longer. The idea you have told me of has capture my attention, but you cannot do it alone. If you would allow me to help, then please let me help. I might have a major case of stage fright, but I am creative. Perhaps I could be of use to you?" She really hoped she could be. The idea was an incredible one and one she wanted to help blossom. She had stated she would leave the Clan for it. The only thing left to do would be to say goodbye to Sunchaser...

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [bg=00c5cd] The waves sounded around them, gently coming to meet the sandy banks of Earth and Lio felt himself almost being lulled to sleep by the gentle nature of the Cove. His heart beat slowed down, his breathing became deeper, and the small amount of panic he had felt before seemed to leak out of his body into the sun-warmed sands of the beach. The female that was sitting next to him seemed utterly calm, and it was relaxing and helpful in many ways. If she was to be a part of his idea, he figured they would make amicable traveling partners. His tail swished idly against the small grains of sand and he felt the overwhelming need to yawn, but he held it in for fear of offending the female.
The truth was, the day had completely exhausted him, first searching all over the forsaken swamp for Sunchaser, only to not find her, then begin a journey in to the Cove, which took a few more days…barely sleeping out of guilt, or excitement he knew not which at times, and now, under this relaxing setting he felt himself finally releasing the tension out of his muscles as he turned to look at Tawny. He glanced at the beauty that was her tail and smiled as the water droplets caught the sun and shimmered like diamonds before being engulfed by the sea around them, there truly was no company like that of another Cael, only they could share their love of the water without words.
When she stated that traveling would be enticing to her, his heart leapt to life in his chest and he smiled broadly. Yes! Someone else had liked the idea..”I desperately want to see snow, what snow is like, we never came across it in my family’s travels, but I have heard from other wolves, it’s cold..but slippery like water..” His tone and voice rushed out into an excited burst as he looked at her, the speckles of dark blue, near black settled within his pelt, and caught the light as well, a water droplet here or there made them stand out. He watched as she stood and shook out, and he abruptly moved back. He had no desire to get wet himself and have to drag not only himself but his tail around, even if it was through the sand.
“A few…I believe two have caught me singing here or there..but it is not something I usually indulge in in front of others. But if it would bring joy, or entertainment and earn me a few nights keep in the lands of another pack, I would sing. It’s a small price to pay for the adventure of a life time..” Or at least that’s how he felt. When she asked to become a part of his idea, and her willingness to leave her pack to do it, he felt elated. Truth be told he would go with or without her, but it was always good to have a companion to travel with. Another set of eyes kept you safer, and another voice in the dark curbed the loneliness, even he knew that from being with his family.
“I think just you agreeing to come along has been of an enormous help, but I could always use a traveling partner to help me organize things, and perhaps enlist the help of others…” He knew it would be hard for just two Cael to travel to all the packs and all the territories but it may have to be that way until they ran in to more Cael or wolves who felt the same way they did. The prospect of starting this new adventure made him immensely happy. He stopped for a moment and thought..”You’ll want to go back..tie up loose ends….say your goodbyes..?” He knew she might need to…he had no reason to and thusly he stated, “I will wait for you in the Cove…I tried to say goodbye already..and found no one to say goodbye to..but I will be here when you are ready to depart on this amazing journey..”

Snow sounded interesting. She had only ever seen it once when she lived with her old pack. They were meant to move to a different place that was warmer because it was getting to winter and getting too cold for the pack to survive as a whole. They would migrate south for the winter. They had wanted to leave that day, but certainly did not expect to wake up to snow. It was white and very cold. Obviously because it was frozen water. Ice was another story. It was hard and slippery. It was very fun to play on and she was already able to come up with a small act they could do on the frozen water. It was definitely an exciting thing to do. She already couldn't wait for the first show, though she doubted she would be performing herself. "Yes...snow is quite fun."
Singing in front of others was definitely a small price to pay for adventuring like they had spoken of. It was something she was willing to do in order to get the traveling group going. She would certainly be able to do something about it. Organization was one of her better qualities. Teaching an entire group a well thought out act, however, was something different. It would start with fewer members, of course, but as the group would grow there would be more and more Cael. That only meant bigger and more complicated acts. Although, it was something she was willing to do, something she was willing to think hard about. "It won't be easy, but we can at least try. There should be loner Cael wherever water is. Recruiting shouldn't be too much of a problem." She could only hope she was right.
Tawny was happy when she could come along and the happiness swelled in her chest, causing the fur there to puff out a little bit. Her skin prickled with excitement and her tail gave light wags according to that excitement. "Of course. I'm sure there are many Caella out there wishing to do something with their lives. All we have to do is persuade them to join us." The smile that graced her lips was a large and happy one. Joy was an understatement for the way she felt in that moment. It was almost as if she had been pulled from a deep, dark abyss that had her trapped in nothingness for awhile. She would have something to do with her life again and it made her ecstatic. The thought of being able to do something productive with herself once more made her want to simply explode, or that's what it felt like with her heart beating so rapidly.
When he spoke of saying goodbye, she frowned at the first thing that came to her mind: Jade, her beloved sister. Tawny would miss her desperately and she wanted to say goodbye, but she had not seen her sister in weeks, even when she called and searched for her. As much as she would miss Jade, she felt this was more of her calling. If she could find her sister and tell her goodbye, she would also tell her of this plan. If she wanted to join, it would be phenomenal. If not, then it was no big deal. "Yes... I should go say goodbye to Sunchaser, and my sister as well. I will leave now and try to find them. I will return here when I am finished." Tawny turned around and began walking away, tossing one thing over her shoulder, "I'll see you later, Nelio." She broke into a run, her feet clumsily carrying her across the sand and back to the swamp so she could say her farewells.
