Walking through the hot and dry prairie was a wolf. Now, this was not a terribly unusual occurrence as the land was filled with wolves. Wolves of all shapes and sizes were everywhere. However, wolves usually stuck to the turf where their bodies were best suited to survive. But this particular wolf preferred to make life difficult for himself, and had strayed into perhaps one of the most inhospitable areas the entire land had to offer.
It was also with no small amount of glee that Delta, a Cael, was here. He hated water and dampness and humidity in most of it's forms, as he hated getting wet. Delta was oddly a racist against his own kind, even going as far as hating his own person. Which is why he tried to stay as absolutely far away from water as physically possible.
Looking up at the sky, Delta noted with pleasure that it was clear. Simply a beautiful summer blue. Perfect in every way. There would not be rain today, at least. Although Delta didn't really know the land, so if a random thunderstorm sprang up he'd be in deep trouble. But hey, at least he was dry for now.
The one thing that irritated him was the winged fish. They seemed to be everywhere. EVERYWHERE, for the sake of all that this holy! Why were winged fish in a place like this? He snorted at he saw a few flutter over a rise and turned to the other direction. He hated fish.
Lucky for him, there seemed to be a Jackalope in the other direction. Taking the opportunity, Delta dropped into a stalking position and crept towards it. When he was close enough, he sprung his attack and brought the unfortunate creature down. Yes! He thought. Delta was unusually skilled in land-hunting because he'd been practicing so long out of water, thus eating the furred creature was nothing new to him. He picked it up and looked for a some sort of cover to eat it in. Delta really did not want to be caught in the open by some sort of passing predator.

Running through the golden grasses of the prarie was Jade, she was starving since she had come here from the cove just for a little exploring and a chance to leave herself to her thoughts but she had stopped when she had noticed the many flying fish in the area soaring over her head. She chased after them leaping into the air trying to catch them but they evaded her grasp. But still she was having fun and it was a good excersise for her legs in order to keep them as strong as her tail, especially since she had been hanging around the cove and swamp for awhile and could never go very long without getting wet.
She smiled happily as she felt her teeth sink into the wing of one of the fish and landed back on the ground with the creature in her mouth. She trotted on looking for a place where she could eat it when her eyes landed upon the figure of a green male, she couldn't announce herself since her mouth was full of fish but from where she was standing he was headed in her direction. She could scent a jackalope and then noticed the animal in his mouth. She figured he must be a lupus since any Cael would be enjoying the the flying feast. She sat down and dropped the fish waiting for the male to notice her.

Delta noticed the female as she began to trot up to him. He turned and looked at her. She was colorful, that was sure. But her fur was mostly greens, golds and blues... That was something to watch out for. He knew the signs well by now. But, not wanting to mistake a poor Lupus for a lowly fish, he humored her for now.
He dropped his catch and placed a paw on it, knowing that some females could be tricky. "Hello, female. What are you doing in a place such as this?" He spoke to her not unkindly, yet his suspicious only rose when the scent of seawater met his nose. She could simply have come from a place close to the sea- Delta had met quite a few different wolves with the smell.
The thing the smell did bring up however, was unpleasant memories. Memories that Delta would much prefer burying and forgetting, using as fuel for the fire of his hatred. Things left unsaid made for excellent kindling. He was brought back from his thoughts when a gimpy winged fish flew at his face. Making a noise of disgust, Delta backpedaled before the creature could touch him. It turned and did it's best to fly up, not at all keen to stay close to such wolves.
Noticing the female had a similar fish at her paws, he gestured to it. "Prefer slimy food, I see."

((OOC: Hope you don't mind if I join in here.))
Morgance snapped a winged fish in her maw, quickly retreating to a drier area so she wouldn't have to haul her fish tail around with her. Her copper eyes watched the male and female Cael only a few yards away as she ground the slimy flesh between her teeth. A gulp of fish, and she saw they were speaking. The Cael ripped a bit of fish off of the bone with her incisors and the male seemed uncomfortable. She crunched bone, but didn't swallow it. Perhaps she did need more...acquaintances.
Morgance rested her head in the grass, troubled. Previous attempts to befriend others left the Cael injured, in mind and body. She always healed up well and never scarred, but that wasn't the case with her mind. Experience had taught her to keep her maw shut unless she was spoken to, but that often left Morgance awfully lonely. She wished desperately to converse with the wolves she saw, but the Cael would wait until they noticed her. She wasn't going to interrupt their conversation to make friends. In fact, that tactic didn't even seem plausible. So she let out a small whimper, hoping she would be heard.

Jade looked at the male with a smile on her face her cerulean and cyan eyes shining. "Well how could I not be here, it's a flying feast! Well actually I have just come from the cove and learned that my sister is leaving our pack and was told that there were many fish here so decided to come here just to clear my head for a bit. Im Jade by the way and who might you be?"Jade bent down and started to nibble at her fish, giggling a bit when a fish flew at the green males face and he snorted with disgust. "Better watch it there or youll get a good slap in the face from one of them, better to keep your head down."
She smiled then went back to eating her fish finishing it quickly then sitting back up to look up and the light green male noticing the jackalope he had put a paw on for the first time. "Why yes I do, Im quite fond of fish but I see that you aren't." she gestured to the jackalope at his feet. "So what brings you here as I have a feeling it wasn't the fish." she gave him a good hearted laugh as she waited for his answer, unaware of the female behind her.

Delta was almost regretting saying anything at all to the female. She sure liked to talk. He was mulling over saying something to her in response, but quickly gave up as her questions and exclamations ran on in one long babble. He decided it would be best to answer whenever she felt she needed to breath.
"My name is Delta." He told her carefully, trying to ignore the bit about her sister and such. He still had no proof of anything, but the love of fish was only more evidence. But he'd either have to see her get wet, or spout lightning from her nose before he was really sure of her species. But Delta would be civil. Everyone was innocent until proven guilty, despite suspicions.
As Jade started her next round of talking, Delta's eyes shifted to a form creeping up behind her. She didn't looking dangerous. More... meek. She whimpered pitifully. Was this her way of begging for food? Delta spoke to Jade, but kept his eyes on the newcomer as he replied. "No, I do not like fish. I prefer red meat, has a less greasy taste to it." Delta told her, elaborating on why. "I came here because I like the climate. Nice and warm. Dry, too. But onto another topic. Do not be alarmed, but I do believe we are being watched." To prove his point, Delta flicked his ears forward in the direction of the new female.

She had noticed the male looking at her, but hadn't thought a whimper would have a result. The Cael pricked her ears forward and lifted her head from the grass, deciding to make herself more obvious since she'd already been caught. Perhaps these were friendlier wolves, ones that would not chase her off.
A very gentle breeze brushed through her fur, reminding her of the many times she had come through the Prairie. Winged fish were plentiful and it was dry for the most part. Despite her love of the water, Morgance tended to avoid it, since most wolves disliked Caels anyway. She had experienced several encounters, none of them being successful, but she hoped that this time would be different than the rest. Allies would be useful for her in the future. [/scrolly] | |

Jade flicked her ears up and turned to where Delta was looking and saw a silver, green and yellow she wolf not far off. She immediately got up and trotted over to her. "Hello." she gave her a friendly smile to show her that she was not dangerous and to get her to speak as she had asssumed since she had said nothing yet that she was quiet and shy and didn't like to talk much. But she could be mistaken but for now she stood her tail wagging slowly.
She looked back to Delta and gave a little yip telling him that he should join her. She then looked back up and leaped into the air grasping another fish in her jaws, then landing gently back on the ground. She tossed it over to the female as she noticed that she had nothing in her paws. "Hungry?" she sat down with her gold and emerald green tail wrapped around her paws.

Perhaps these were friendly wolves. Morgance shook her head and rose to her feet. "I just ate," she smiled. "But I am Morgance. Thank you for your offer." The Cael nodded at what little was left of the fish she had just eaten. She realized accepting the fish would have made her appear more friendly, but she would have to swing it this time.
