((This is before Verboten met Nautic, Crow, Kas, etc. Also, table under construction!))
It was a rough time for the Lyxxus. No pack meant Jackalopes and the occasional severely wounded deer. But this had gone on for at least two years, and so now the Lyxxus had a starved look about her. Dulled coat, ribs literally sticking out, eyes sunken, fur stretched taught over her bones. There was nothing here, just barren lands devoid of pack. Or food, for that matter. Tails were literally dragging on the ground, and ears drooped. It was a strain on her, this Lyxxus, to have to walk and never find anything. To find a scent trail, gain hope, and then have it crushed upon finding the end without a wolf.
There was the past still haunting her, giving the wolf a truly frightened look about her glassy eyes. Like a spark, but far away. She needed interaction, deathly so. It had been three days of endless walking- really, she hadn't stopped for a moment of sleep. And now she practically collapsed. Her muscles- strained and tired- just gave out and she saw the ground swirl up to have a reunion with her face.
Verboten whimpered softly, not trying to move or get up. Maybe something will come along and kill me, she thought-whispered, the voice in her mind now hardly audible even in her head. Her eyes closed, and soon she was asleep.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,502,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i369/mo_avalon/WonderWhy/kalybg.png] Kaly had decided to take herself on an adventure, although it was a lonely one. For just being under two years old the little lyxxus was nearly completely independent. Although she had wished Coneiron or Brit could have come with her. Being her only companions in such a large pack spoke volumes about just how mean she could be for no reason. So as it was she had decided to leave the valley she currently called home..of course leaving her den was more of her problem, and if she found any temporary tenants when she returned there would be sheer hell to pay, she would cut them to ribbons. She was extremely protective over the little, rather large cave she had deemed her own, but she trusted her two large friends to keep it safe for her..not that she had told them about leaving..
Making her way through the territory she knew as pack lands it was not too very long before she was greeted by the long green and gold grasses of the Yuliterra…she delighted in the grasses, scratching and pawing at them as she bounced through them. Ah yes, the side of Kaly very few saw, the playful pup, which she had thought died long ago, with her parents. Being one and a half and already grown up was taking it’s toll on her, and so through the dry grasslands she pranced, feet held high, her pelt shimmering with it’s sunlight yellows, oranges and ambers. Her slightly bigger ears twitched this way and that as she knew the grasses might be fun but they could be dangerous as well.
Her shoulders rose and fell with the walking and pouncing activities she was doing, and her lean muscles moved underneath her multicolored, blended coat. From her traveling she was ravenous, and it was hard to believe she ate as much as she did considering her small body frame. The last time she had eaten was the day before, spent with Coneiron. Soon she would have to get back to hunting for the pack but for right now she could be her naturally selfish self, and find herself a plump bird or something. Swishing through the grass she listened carefully, taking near silent steps as she heard what sounded to be a quail scurrying around the grasses, no doubt gorging itself on the lush vegetation and seeds, which helped provide flowers and such.
She stood, half crouched, letting the grasses give her the sheer element of surprise as she glared at the bird through her midnight eyes. Oh yes, she would feast upon this fat little bird, it’s natural diet containing just the right amount of flavoring..her mouth began to water, and she had to keep her mouth closed to contain it…with one final leap she landed on the bird, claws raking across it’s throat practically taking it’s head clean off. One final squawk let her know it was dead and she ravenously tore through it’s wings to the fatty meat within. A small sound of delight escaped in between bites. As usual though, Kaly’s eyes were bigger than her stomach.
She rested for a moment, licking her paws and cleaning her claws before looking at the half eaten carcass, she could bother to take it with her…or she could bury it for the way back…yes that might be better. She picked it up in her jaws and began to go on her way. With the bloodied prey so close to her nose and partially blocking her sight she did not see or smell the other wolf. It was not until she stepped on something large and lumpy that she fell forward, dropped her prey and was suddenly standing with a furious hiss. “What kind of idiot just lays in the middle of nowhere?” The wolf looked near death but for Kaly that was no excuse. She glared down on her and kicked up dirt behind her, picking up the dirtied bird she tossed it down to the pathetic looking wolf, “Eat something will you, you look disgusting…and pathetic..and you smell…when was the last time you bathed?” Okay, so she wasn’t entirely sympathetic…but she had at least given the poor thing something to eat…

There was a whoosh of released breath, a whip-lash feeling from waking up so suddenly to a rude and rather arrogant wolf stumbling over her and then the scent of blood and food. It slapped the earth right by her muzzle, she ignored the other wolf completely. A half-eaten quail was better then nothing and it's thigh was in her mouth before the wolf's words reached her ears.
“Eat something will you, you look disgusting…and pathetic..and you smell…when was the last time you bathed?”[/i]
Instead of answering, however, something ignited in her again- perhaps pure instinct, perhaps just a defensive feeling- but she growled. A low, warning sound, pausing her eating- the crunching of bones as they were torn from flesh and devoured- and her eyes flickered up to glare at the other. It was not a display of dominance, merely a warning, a 'watch yourself' though Verboten didn't think it would have much effect. Her startlingly sky blue eyes glowed like a the stars on a clear night, beginning the soft literal glowing that acted like built-in night-vision goggles.
Without speaking a word, she flicked her eyes back to the kill, just grabbing the last piece- the rear hind quarters- and swallowing it without tearing. Licking her jaws free of the small amount of blood, her eyes roamed. She pretended, for just a moment, to ignore the other wolf. But she would have information, wouldn't she, about things that Verboten needed to know. Heaving a soft sigh, Verboten turned towards the ill-tempered wolf.
"Thanks," Her voice was not kind or soft, though it sounded like ice cracking since it hadn't been used in so long. The word hung in the silence, and Boten studied her paws. "For that... Quail, you didn't have to give it to me," Refusing to get sappy, she stared out, away from the wolf- in a separate direction- and then looked her over in a darting pair of glances. Well-fed, a thick and lustrous coat that was a harder red then herself. Two tails.
Lyxxus.
Lyxxus weren't bad-tempered, she, Boten, had been through betrayal and hardships that she doubted this other wolf had seen in their...what? Two years? Four was worse. Four was a curse. Four years was enough time to destroy the bouncing pup she, Boten, had once been. Four years was enough time to make Boten wish that she had never been born, or at least died soon after birth. Four years of betrayal without amnesty.
But Time changed you, calloused you and rubbed you the wrong way and beat you down or brought you up. It didn't wait for you, it rushed on to infinity, towards the finite end. And there was no reasoning with it, for it's child was called Death and Death claimed you as its own after Time was through with its fun.
"And...I wasn't just lying there, I collapsed." She said in a matter-of-fact way common to her saying that she was right and you were wrong and to get on with it. "Couldn't get up," She remained lying down, having tried to move but ached horribly.
"...I still can't get up."

She noticed how she practically inhaled the quail before she even said she could have it. Go figure, the pathetic other female looked as if she was either too stupid or lazy to catch her own food in the first place, maybe she was one of those slow wolves she had heard about…..The fact that the female bothered to growl at her had already set her into motion. “How dare you ungrateful little bitch. Here I give you food, don’t even make you work for it and you want to open that dust laden trap at me? You’re lucky I don’t use you as a way to sharpen my claws, you don’t even have enough meat for that…”
She snarled the lips around her muzzle crinkling up and making her look rather vicious if Kaly had any say in the matter. Her own midnight, near black looking eyes glared at the other lyxxus. It would seem she could make no friends of her own species, they all had attitude problems..especially it seemed when it came to meeting others like themselves. Call it a curse, whatever you called it Kaly was just fine, what good was a bunch of near rat sized wolves any way…besides herself. She was a warrior and no one would convince her differently, not even her own alpha. He was just too dim witted and mate-pecked to see the truth.
“Thanks?! Thanks?! After your little stunt there I think a lot more than thanks is in order, not like you could even do much.” She snorted in disgust at the other female, the fact that she lay so useless like a pile of bones, a dirty pelt, and had not bothered to even try to fight to survive was a big strike with the little spitfire in front of her. Kaly had seen her fair share of heartache and had dealt with it the best way she could, which was not but she would never let herself get to…this. Her eyes narrowed when the wolf spouted off her excuses.
“That’s a load of dragon shit and you know it. Your legs aren’t broken, no predator snapped them off for a tasty meal and left you bleeding to death here. You are lazy and self indulgent. Look at the way you pounced on what was left of my meal? Anything to not hunt for yourself hmm? What about water? There are puddles here and there, but have you bothered to drink or even tried to replenish your muscles? I bet not. Here you sit wallowing in your pathetic self pity..what the hell are you waiting on? Some big strong wolf to save you? Or for some predator to come eat you alive?”
She shook her head and turned her now standing body away from her. “I don’t associate with cowards with no potential as it stands, you don’t even had the self respect to stand up and try to survive. Do yourself a favor and join a pack, howl for someone, it’s obvious you need someone…or something. She shook herself and licked her lips as she stared down on the other female, practically daring her to argue with her. She loved a good argument..and if worse came to worse she could kill the other female and be on her merry, if not eternally bitchy way.. |

Even for a starving scrap of fur, weakened and rather sickly, even if the other wolf could easily kill her, enough was enough- and so now as the other wolf went off on her tirade, she just sat there, waiting. Like a cat with a mouse, just sat there staring and waiting patiently. It was no matter, there had been plenty of little hormonal bitches she had met, and of course in the end and ticked off just for the fun of it. Waiting, silently, she licked her jaws again. Verboten yawned, stretching softly. Her eyes never strayed from the wolf, though this was a direct challenge. -A challenge that the wolf held as she shrieked.
"That’s a load of dragon shit and you know it. Your legs aren’t broken, no predator snapped them off for a tasty meal and left you bleeding to death here. You are lazy and self indulgent. Look at the way you pounced on what was left of my meal? Anything to not hunt for yourself hmm? What about water? Here you sit wallowing in your pathetic self pity..what the hell are you waiting on? Some big strong wolf to save you? Or for some predator to come eat you alive?"[/i]
It would be a lot better to be eaten alive then listen to this. Verboten thought, closing her eyes and shaking her head. Her strength was coming back a little, a small amount. At least she wasn't aching anymore.
"I don’t associate with cowards with no potential as it stands, you don’t even had the self respect to stand up and try to survive. Do yourself a favor and join a pack, howl for someone, it’s obvious you need someone…or something."[/i] The female issued a challenge with her eyes, posture, the overall bitchy-ness she held. Drawing up as much acid as she could, Verboten spoke.
"Are you quite finished?... Good, I'd begun to wonder if you'd ever shut up." Now, without a word, Verboten struggled into a sitting position, muscles burning. "Now let me tell you something, wolf, before you go over to some Yagi had have your head snapped off: You say I have no respect for myself, am I right?" Her tone was calm and controlled, betraying no emotion. "You say I have no self-respect... but the question becomes do you have respect for yourself. Because screaming and biting someone's head off because they are weakened does not show you have control or any respect whatsoever, Princess." This she said highly sarcastically, attempting to show that she was not a Princess and instead was just like everyone else and to get over it. "It shows that you are not only incapable of controlling yourself, but that you have no respect for others. 'He who respects himself respects others, he who does not respect others disrespects himself.'" Pushing forward and up with her back paws -not without a scream of protest from them, mind you- Verboten stood. However, she quaked, still weakened. "Now I refuse to stay near someone who doesn't give a damn for themselves and whatever happens, if you don't learn something soon about this, you are dead. I wouldn't mind if some Yagi came along and snapped your head off for drinking their water." Turning her head, she began to walk in the direction the other wolf had walked.
"And let me say one last thing: If there had been a sorry pack within a mile, I wouldn't've been here."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,502,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i369/mo_avalon/WonderWhy/kalybg.png] Kalylia, having done with her speech had turned to leave. If the other little bitch that thought that she knew and had experienced the entire world and beyond had any sense she might take some of it as fuel and get up and get out of such a deserted place. For Kalylia it wasn’t bad, she always had a home to go back to. For once she actually shocked herself with recalling the Lumera Valley as her home. She may not have liked many of the pack members but Coneiron and Bri were there, and her cave was there, many of the things she had grown to like, if not love were there. If it wasn’t so entirely wet during the summer it might have been perfect…but it was as close as it was going to get.
Kaly had a nasty little thought in her head that she should have just left the creature here to die. Rid the world of one more weakling, but Kalylia was having another one of those crazy moments. The world slid down to a creep around her, the other female seemed to blur a little before her eyes, and she saw what the future had in store for her, at least in the near future. Kaly saw the female wasting and withering away, dying alone, and being fed on by the local predators too lazy to catch their own food. Even as she surfaced from the somewhat dream-like state, she realized her mouth was open and pondered what to do. How do you tell someone else..especially someone you quickly learned to despise you saw them dying?
This is it..I really am losing it. I should have talked to Coneiron about it…I should have said something, I’m going to become a fucking lunatic! If she dies it might be better than me living out this existence with these things happening to me ALL the time. She snorted and blew air slowly out of her nose. She hadn’t truly listened to anything the wolf said..horrified by the fact that she could still see things feeding on her in the back of her mind. She knew she was being challenged, but beyond killing the female herself there was no pleasure to be had anymore. This was not her territory and in the worst case scenario she would be hurt miles from her own pack and a healer.
Kaly was no coward, but a true opportunist and realist. She would not endanger herself for the sake of pride, it was pointless and could bring about any early death. “It’s a miracle she can sit up on her humongous ass.” She snorted again, sharp teeth becoming quite clear against the darker shades along her neck line. The princess comment was amusing in a rather irritating way, but as far as she thought, she could very well be, so it didn’t bother her. The fact that the wolf was trying so very hard to sound intelligent and not hostile simply made her smile. Oh she could let her die here, with each passing word she became more adaptable to the idea. When she said her last comment Kaly had just about had enough, seeing the wolf was entirely weak and that it seemed as though it hurt her just trying to walk she rammed herself forward.
Seeing as they were both one of the smallest species, the impact of her body would seemingly just knock the other wolf back down into her original laying down position. When Kaly got up she stood over the other wolf menacingly. “Let’s get something straight, I could just leave you here to die…and die you shall, I have seen it. Secondly don’t quote anything to me about having self respect, and don’t you dare assume to tell me you’ve seen it all, you’ve been everywhere and discount my experiences. Don’t attempt to be wise with me. Don’t waste your breath. If you weren’t so weakened maybe could scent and scout the pack that is not but maybe a few miles away. The pack that I chose is right on the valley near here. So there is a pack around here, just none occupying this god forsaken grass land.” She liked it none that she had admitted to seeing the wolf before her eyes die, nor did she like actually having to knock her legs out from under her. But she felt the same way the other felt about her. She needed to be taken down a peg. “I didn’t have to share my kill with you, but I did, and if you weren’t so nasty maybe someone might come along and TRY to help you.” |

The body of the second lyxxus impacted her own, and Verboten stumbled. As she hit the ground, she snarled, hackles raising, lips drawing back to reveal her fangs, and her tails whipped and lashed, back and forth. Her slitted eyes narrowed, tongue passing over teeth as the wolf began- yet again- with another tirade. As it stood over her, spitting out its arguments, Verboten rolled away, standing up and shaking herself off. Purposefully, she turned halfway again, sitting down on her sore rump and extending her claws.
Slowly, she calmed herself. She half-listened, not in the mood to argue any more but to tired to try and walk again.
"...quote anything to me... you’ve been everywhere...you’ve seen it all... Don’t waste your breath. If you weren’t so weakened maybe could scent...[/i]
"Maybe if I wasn't stuck in your stench, I'd be able to." Verboten muttered crossly. "Your breath reeks." Her voice was inaudible, barely above the tone of her breath, hardly even she could hear it. If she hadn't spoken the words, she wouldn't have known they'd been said.
"The pack that I chose is right on the valley near here. So there is a pack around here...I didn’t have to share my kill with you, but I did, and if you weren’t so nasty maybe someone might come along and TRY to help you."[/i]
"Dear glory..." Verboten muttered, shaking her head slowly. Raising her voice so the other could her, she tried to growl, but it ended in a hacking cough. Phlegm spewed forth, bits of the meal along with it. Bile rose, burning with acidic quality out of her throat and mouth, leaving a trail of indescribable horrific taste. "Listen to me, wolf. You say that I am in need of a dose of nicety? When have you last looked at your personality, or heard what you said?! And did I not just say thank you for that damn meal?! What, you want me to prostrate myself before you, call you a goddess, and ask if you deign to let me live?" Her voice was raspy, high, and her sentence ended in more vomiting.
The meal had been too rich, eaten to fast.
Turning away again, she spoke. "I won't, I won't ever. And let me just say this: we both need to take our...our..." she searched for the word, "Our... egotism, our arrogance; we need to both take it down a notch." Her sentence ended in a sigh, soft and quiet.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,502,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i369/mo_avalon/WonderWhy/kalybg.png] She stood a small distance away, hissing, her pelt on edge, and her own teeth glimmering behind stretched out lips. She had had just about enough of this female’s mouth, but it was always that way with females. They never shut the hell up even when it was in their best interest to do so. The other female was lucky she did not take a huge chunk out of whatever was left of her all things considered. She may have looked pretty and feminine but Kaly was more male than most males she ran into and she didn’t have a problem showing it to those who deserved it. She watched as she rolled and pushed out her claws, but Kaly was pleased enough. The wolf may have been able to spit as much acid as she could, but Kaly could take her out, at least now while she was weak and she would even go as far as to say she could be an even if not better match when she was well.
When she shot out about her breath and stench she simply smirked and settled her pelt right down as she sat down, facing her dead on. “You’ve been out here much longer than I have, it isn’t my ‘stench’ as you say. Further more, I’d rather have quail breath than reek of death.” The words were spat without so much as a hint of sympathy but Kaly could care less, this female wasn’t family, hell she wasn’t even pack, so she was not required to respect her or treat her with kindness, and the other female was repaying the favor back with such zest Kaly wouldn’t have been happier to bite her tongue off. Kaly could only hear her insults because as much as she hated to admit it she was closer to the female than she had intended, but backing up was not an option, nothing that made her look weak was an option.
Her larger ears turned to the side as she listened for other things that might be moving through the golden grasses even as the wind swept through them and pushed them this way and that. It could be a dangerous time of year for the Prairie, she realized if starvation and loneliness…or a predator didn’t kill the female, a fire might just burn her alive. She truly berated herself for being so paranoid about someone she didn’t even care about, could she get any more pathetic. The grimace on her face gave no clue as to what she was thinking but it did show she was in some pain, at least mentally. However, the other female began hacking up things..and then she did back up..she needed to catch no disease and there were plenty of things a wolf could contract in any land…that’s how plagues started.
She listened to her spew more foul insults and suggestions before she watched her get sick, and felt her own stomach roll and turn within her skin. It took much concentration on anything else, which was hard considering it had definite odor…..But instead of sniping back on her she said lowly, in a voice that was seemingly some other’s..”It will not be for me to judge whether you live or die….you’re making that choice on your own..” Swallowing at the end of speaking she simply looked at the other female for a long moment, tilting her head. If she wasn’t so….sickly..she might see making friends with her..or at least tolerating her presence better.
When she spoke her final peace about them both turning themselves down a little bit Kaly snorted. She didn’t think there was anything about herself that needed “toning” down especially not her ego. But maybe for the sake of not watching anymore vomit she might find it in herself to not be quite a bitch. “A healer might be good for you now…or would you be adverse to finding one?” Her voice still sounded…well bitchy but at least the content was nicer…sort of. She was still sitting, hard as it was as close as she was, her pelt fluffy and being blown out by the wind was not helping. But she doubted anyone at this point was going to be calling her anything but her name…her claws bet on it. |
