Okay so this post functions as both a plot suggestion, and a suggestion for the species itself.
First of all, I see this species as a real competitor and threat to the wolves of Wonder Why. The thread where The Children fought off a young male Calagris brought this to my attention and made me curious. If wolves flourish in the territories of WW, then why wouldn't similar predators? Especially powerful predators which travel in herds consisting of not only their own allies, but their prey as well.
What if the Calagris and the wolves have had a shaky truce which was broken when the rogue male attacked Reynard? But what if that male had been the son of a leaderof one of the largest herds of Calagris? And with the existence of the language barrier, what if the leader saw his dead child's body and assumed the wolves attacked without provocation? Resulting in an all out war between the groups of predators?
I was feeling rather photoshop-y earlier and decided to create a new image for the Calagris species. However, I quickly discovered that joining a horse and a big cat at the middle was difficult and awkward at best. I got so frustrated that I said "to hell with the bestiary description" and played around with the appearance of the species. What I got was: this. I don't know about you, but I would be scared poopless if that monster came barreling toward me xD Anatomically I think this version looks smoother and less stitched together.
Seeing as Calagris are called "shape-shifters" I imagine that they could be just about any combination of feline and equine. It simply says they are half big cat and half horse. I don't think it would be a stretch to have a diverse population of weird combination of horse/cat. I'm going to stop rambling now. Let me know what you think.
