The mist was creeping across the moist ground, rolling away from the lake in silent migration. A wolf could barely see where they were going. So thick was the fog that a certain traveler had to stop to gather her wits. She was not unfamiliar with fog, it was just she was in a strange territory. One she had never been to before. Her nose told her that she was near the edge of a packs territory, however her throat was telling her she was close to water. She needed to cross over to get a drink. Carefully the cael x keiyou hybrid continued on her way. Hopefully the fog would mask her intrusion, considering the veil only permitted her to see a few yards ahead of her. Good for hiding....however there was that hair-raising realization that she might not be the only one lurking undercover of moisture. Her pale form moved slowly toward where she assumed the little spring was. She could hear the trickling of water over slick rocks. Her bad wing was cramping a little with the weather change. She did her best to stretch out the deformed appendage, as well as her magnificent leathery complete wing. Sadly the deformed one was only half the length of the good one. Her heavy tail dragged a little across grass behind her, forever stuck in a submissive position it seemed. Her partially webbed paws stepped gingerly, her brown and pink scales were dull in the lack of light penetrating the clouds. Her sad brown eyes looked around cautiously as she came to the small spring. Visibility was still limited, she could vaguely make out a great forest in the distance. The fog gave it an eerie and mystifying quality. Were all mornings in this territory like this? How could they hunt? She imagined that it could not be this hard to see all the time. Maybe it was just the gray of the morning combined with the changing seasons. The meek hybrid lowered her head to take a few well needed laps of icy water. Her brown tipped ears were constantly a swivel, searching for any threat.

Aur swam swiftly in the lake. Her blue scales seemed to blend with the water of the lake, though her white pelt was a clear indicator. Typically staying at the deep of the lake, Aur was usually well hidden. However, the thick fog in the area looked as if it could cover anything, so she swam to the shore.
Aur was surprised of how cold it actually was. A wet pelt and generally cold temperatures did not make a good combination. It didn't seem to be that cold when she slipped in, though she hadn't been paying much attention. Her body shivered now as she dragged herself upon the grassy shore. She hoped she wouldn't get sick, because that would only make things tougher. Swallowing hard, she looked around, trying to ignore her body's tremors.
Her assumption was right: the fog was able to hide nearly everything. Aur couldn't hardly make anything out. For all she knew, she wasn't even on shore. She squinted, trying to adjust to the thick fog and perhaps 'slice' through it. After a few minutes of straining her gold metallic eyes, however, she gave it up. She sniffed the air quietly, alarmed when she indeed found the scent of another. The scent was faint, and Aur couldn't truly locate where the wolf might be hiding.
When she was dry enough, Aur scrambled forward, dramatically looking for another cover besides the fog. It took a while though, seeing as the fog only allowed her to see a few things in front of her. Soon she found a tree, and calmed as she hid behind it.

Although, like any predator, Siren enjoyed the chase, his preferred method of catching a meal was ambush. The long seaweed on his back waved soothingly in the water, an effective lure for curious fish. Occasionally the hybrid would hear the fluttering fins of prey venturing close, and then in a swift snap of his jaws they would be swallowed whole. His belly was full at this moment, so for now he chose to conserve his energy and relax.
That was until his ears picked up the distant sound of splashing and moving currents. From what he could tell, the source of the noises was rather large. His bright orange eyes slowly opened and studied the clear underwater world around him. He could see something sparkling in the distance, the outline of which looked familiar.
Siren stood and then propelled himself off the muddy bottom. Silt clouded around his paws then was dispelled with a powerful thrust of his tail. The male moved fluidly toward his current target. It was either a large fish, or a cael. It seemed his latter suspicion was the more accurate of the two. He paused, treading water, and watched the white wolf swim toward shore.
He first followed her with his gaze, then when she was out of his line of site, moved to pursue her. The hybrid reached the surface, his nostrils taking in the heavy fog. He could hardly see the water in front of him and snorted in distaste. A little fog or mist was fine, but this was just ridiculous. Why a cael would want to leave the lake in favor of such a scene was beyond Siren's understanding.
Reluctantly, the shaggy brown wolf hoisted himself onto the land. He could smell the other wolf, but his eyes failed to identify her location. Siren paced slightly awkwardly around the edge of the water, not wanting to stray too far from it. When he arrived at the strongest source of scent he sat down. The smell was there, but the wolf was not. Could it have been a figment of his imagination? He shook his head, sure of his own senses. What else could he do in this situation but let out a cautious greeting. "Hello?" He called into the empty white veil, ears straining to hear a reply.

She had satiated her thirst, now she had to find her way out of the fog. She could hear the lapping of water from the lake...maybe she could skirt it to find a river that lead out? That didn't seem like a good idea, especially if the fog was thicker by the water's edge. She started moving perpendicular to where she could hear the lake, using it as reference to navigate the mists. She stopped suddenly though when she heard movement to the opposite side of her. She stepped in a wet patch. Had something come out of the lake and moved away? She squinted in the dreary fog and say the silhouette of a tree. She couldn't see anything, aside a white mass near the base. Wait...was that a wolf? She strained to see. She jumped a little when a voice by the lake caught her off guard. Something else had come out of the lake? For a moment she wondered if they were cael. She swallowed hard. Could she have found her mother after so long? Not that she was looking...but the fleeting heart of an abandoned child twittered at the thought. The logical part of her mind raised a red flag though. That voice was male. She realized that she was stuck between two strange wolves. The young adult looked back and forth. Her good wing flapped in agitation. A slight breeze passed over the scene, clearing some of the fog, making clarity a little easier. However, she could see the silhouette of the strange male. He seemed to have oddly colored plants on his back. She quickly turned her head and saw a white female splashed with gold. Both were within yards of her, both still shrouded in a thin blanket of mist that made them both seem...well unnatural.

"Hello?" Aur stopped breathing. She felt as if someone had been following her, and the thought was only further pushed into her mind. The voice seemed to be coming from the shoreline, where she had been only minutes before.
Picking up her breathing again, she squinted through the fog once more, and assessed the male. She had never seen such a wolf before. Curiosity got the better of her, and she took a few steps closer, attempting to fully look him over. He was darker in color, with what looked like various plants on his back. What most stuck out about him, though, were his bright eyes. Aur cocked her head, wondering if such a wonderful combination of colors were even possible on a wolf, and what he might be exactly.
A gentle wind swept over the area, taking with it some of the fog. Her metallic golden eyes adjusted quickly the new scene, and she observed the change. Seeing another wolf even closer to her now, she scrambled back to the tree, poking her head around the side of the trunk. The female was obviously a hybrid, too. She too had unique colors, or so it seemed, but Aur noticed that with her mighty wing followed a lame one. Swallowing hard, she stared at them. Was this coincidence? Did they notice her?
Feeling it was impossible for them not to have seen her, she gave up her cover. "H-Hello," she said weakly.
