The perfect February night had that crispness about it, that sweetness on the cold air, that was only really known in winter and spring. Impossible to capture with a tool as weak as memory, it was forgotten, never quite put into words, until the next one came, jewels in a life of dust. It was late, too late to be out. But Cahaya loved the night, had always done so. She was almost invisible in the shadows, and it was a perfect time to practise her light powers. They were coming along passably, though she still was much annoyed by her lack of a defensive power. As the lupus wandered along, little could be seen of her except the occasional flash of light as her brow creased in a frown and the path before her lit up. She liked the valley. It was a nice place. It was pretty, which made her feel pretty, too, because she knew that nothing could ever be as pretty as she was. The night hid all the little physical imperfections, made her feel confident. Or at least, as confident as somebody like Cahaya could ever be without a boyfriend. It was shallow. It was stupid. But it was how Cahaya had survived, her whole life. She knew almost no other way. She might have been a good enough hunter, but her upbringing had ensured that this was the only life she could live. The only life she wanted to live. She yawned. She was beginning to feel the hints of tiredness creeping at the edges of her mind. She should get back to her den at Lake Amarenthyst, but she didn't like it there much. She had only joined a pack for protection, and now that the deepest cold of winter had passed, she disliked the place. She disliked her rank. More, she felt lonely there; the tightly knit pack only served to remind her of how much she would always be an outsider, in any group. Because she was aloof, and proud, and also because she was beautiful. Or, at least, she thought so. She sighed. It was a lonely night, and perhaps that was not the main cause of her dissatisfaction; not her pack, nor her rank, nor her power, but how alone she had felt since coming to this new land.

"Speaking" Coneiron walked through the moon struck snow, sparkles reverberating around him as the stars gleamed down upon his dark body. His pelt was jet black and pierced with flowing rivers of aqua and royal blues that intertwined without ever really blending, much like an azure river. The snow danced around his paws as he began to run, enjoying testing his now younger body more then he had ever before. Eternal youth had granted him ever lasting youth and the return of his roguishly handsome looks, but finding Lupa had given him a greater gift; love and belonging. He had not seen his mate in a while, and he was beginning to grow concerned for her safety and so he wandered over the territory until the late hours, hoping desperately to have a glimpse of her silvery fur. Coneiron understood that even mates needed periods of self reflection, but being a male he still worried about his mate. Tauxic had grown so much since his birth, and though he was still a small tyke at least he was a healthy one full of vivacious curiosity and intelligence.
The night air was brisk and humid; a fresh feeling in his lungs and his breath came out in crystalline clouds before him as he ran. His powerful body rippled with well constructed muscles from hard work and the light of the moon caught the dashing blue streaks in a striking caress. All he wanted was to bring his mate home, feel the velvety warm fur that gracefully lined her body against his own in the comfort of their den. His body longed to have her curled next to his own so that he might once again lay eyes upon the one he loved while she slept. However, most of all he wanted to gaze into her violet eyes that sparkled with silver highlights, an evening sky that would never be matched in nature and in that sky he would once again find his way home. Yes, he was starstruck with his mate, in fact he simply adored her like no other and there was little doubt that he would lay down his life without thought to save her own. Lupa was what mattered most to him, she was his universe and wherever she went would be his home.
Coneiron paused his running, his steps slowing down progressively as he gazed across the valley from the crest of a hill. He had not always felt so welcome in this pack, there had been times when left without company he had considered venturing out into other territories. But finding Lupa had changed that, the more time he spent with her the more he grew to love the valley for what it was, the place that had brought him a family. It was said that nothing came without waiting, and now he finally understood. Years of torture and cruelty should have weakened his ties to love, crushed his spirit and brought him to his end, but instead the warrior had persevered and grown after his escape and with everyday came a silent gratitude for what he had in his life. It was only the fear of losing those he held so dear that could now paralyze him for his loyalty to them was undying and everlasting, honor demanded it from him for he had been raised to rise to the responsibility of that valor.
Below the First Guardian stretched the valley, shrouded in the night shadows it appeared to be an ocean of sparkling diamonds, though what untold treasures it concealed would always remain unseen. He would have turned back, but his aqua gaze, almost luminescent in a ghostly manner, fell upon a random light that disappear but a second later. Curious he watched on as it appeared once more, teasing his senses and daring him to investigate. A small frown fell upon his charming face, was this perhaps Lupa? But why would she seek to hide from him? Trotting down the hill he followed the burst of light, finally picking up on a scent and tracked it, a black shape barely visible in the shadows. A loud and strong bark rang out from his chest as he announced his presence, “Whom slinks through the shadows so close to Children lands?!” And he waited, poised in the vision of archaic strength as the moonlight highlighted his muscled body like a ancient clan leader of the past.
