[/color] , Dupre Thinks[/center] Bright. So bloody bright. The ebony wolf squinted out to the sky, the suns rays dancing upon him. He wasn’t entirely aware as to what had happened, his memory was just mush. Letting out a heavy sigh, he began to stretch. It felt like the longest slumber possible and his muscles ached severely. I’m going to murder you, Dupre. I swear I will, damn bird. He snarled in his thoughts, not even bothering to try his voice. You’re such a broken record. Give me a nudge when you finally fix yourself. It took a lot of will power for the wolf not to through himself off a cliff.
The world was still in its usual blur and all quite washed out. After shaking his head a bit, Vereine stared up into the sky once more. How long had it been? Days? Weeks? Months? All he could remember was feeling impossibly sick. Dupre’s little mind games, he suspected it, but the wheezing and coughing and vomiting things from days before? But it wasn’t the second soul’s usual tricks... Perhaps he was trying something knew. Yes, that was Dupre for you, always trying to come up with ways to ruin lives. He could sense the bird roll his eyes, most likely insulted by the wolf’s hypothesis. Wasn’t me you prat. Guess again.
He felt like he was forgetting something important, though there wasn’t much to remember. There was that one female, the one that reminded him of a beaver with a duck’s bill, but other than that, every thing else was pretty bland. He still had trouble remembering her name though, something with an O... Vereine let out another sigh and started off, letting his muscles work and get himself back in shape. So had he been passed out the whole time then? Just laying there? Did anyone even notice him? Probably not, or he might have ended up somewhere else.
The feeling of drowsiness and nausea washed over him and Vereine couldn’t help but take a quick break. After a moment of deep breaths and attempts to gain some control over his consciousness, the male continued on his little journey once more. Perhaps he would run into someone of his pack and gain some answers. Or maybe just run into anyone and ask what’s happened in the past few months. He heard his stomach growl and the need for water was more adamant. Water first, food later. Besides, I can already tell if you don’t get some liquid down your throat soon, your voice isn’t going to be very pretty. Tch, I’m flattered by your concern for my well being and the outward appearance of my voice. Damn prat. Vereine let out a soft chuckle and picked up his steady pace, eager to explore the lands once more.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,392,true] | [atrb=background,http://i.imm.io/6nVp.png][scrolly:h(249),w(392),sy]Hell had apparently frozen over, Oteka had left the Cadre’s lands and taken up a temporary residence in the swamp. In a moment of weakness, desperation and loneliness she had taken up residence in the dirty, filthy, muddy swamp. Erena however had been entirely pleased with the arrangement, getting plenty of days of swimming, mud rolling and other activities, In fact, Oteka would be lying if she said she didn’t enjoy rolling down a mud bank into the water. Of course no one had intruded upon her little foray into insanity, and when Erena was pleasantly happy and “buzzed” her mind out Oteka thought it would be best to leave the swamp now. She had no wings, nor a useful tail or any other appendage that would help her climb trees or find shelter in the swamp, and as it became cooler she simply had no desire to stay there.
She knew she also didn’t want to go back to the Cadre, she was tired of climbing rock formations with webbed paws, it made everything so damn complicated. More than once her poor pads and webbing had been cut to ribbons by the rocks there. While Oteka didn’t one hundred percent mind the swamp, she did ache for solid ground and the absence of sink holes. So she proceeded to head north, up through Yuliterra Plains and on into Dteria. To her knowledge no packs resided in these lands, and so she was content to travel alone, keeping close to rivers and streams just in case she needed an escape route of some type or other. It was another reason she avoided the deserts, as much as she loved to punish Erena, she was finding the effects of the other female being happy, to be quite to her benefit. The happy endorphins that were flooding her mind made her feel much less contrite..and bitchy.
But her mind did wander, and it was a wonder she did not dally into another pack’s territory, but days after traveling told her she had indeed hit her mark in the lands of Dteria. It was dry, and warm, though not as much as the swamp, the winds blew through her short pelt, with it’s freshly clean yellow underbelly, and she raised her head up defiantly looking through the grass as it bent to the wind’s whims. She clacked her bill a few times as she saw, rather smelled the river not too far away. She was clean, the earth was soft but solid beneath her, and the grass smelled so fresh and so different. For once Oteka had found some measure of peace with herself, or maybe it was because Erena was essentially drugging her, but it was a better balance than any that had been between them.
She padded her way over to the water, staying rather close to what looked like the only tree, and it was a gnarled and spindly kind of tree. Her dark chocolate eyes stared at it for a moment as though it might do a trick, the thought in fact curled her lipless bill into a slight smile, and she made a sound of amusement. Erena seems to be a curled up sense of fluff in the back of her mind, that is, until Oteka’s eyes saw black wings approaching in the very near distance. Oh no….it couldn’t be? How in the hell could it be? She had left the Cadre’s lands, and not seen a speck of Crow’s food for weeks, perhaps even more. She had delighted in the fact that he had probably drowned when going for water one time….Erena clucked slightly, now awake and interested, ‘Oh you know you’d miss him..’ Oteka’ buzz was quickly fading now that her silence had been interrupted.
She could hope for all she was worth that it was not Vereine. She knew it would be futile though, every time she was near water it would seem the male was never too far from her. She was now determined that she could travel to the icy regions of the north and his black wings would haunt her every step. Her good mood was quickly shot to hell as Erena began to sing, ‘Lovers be crossed, lovers may part, but bless my beak if only you weren’t so tart..’..and other such nonsense. She swore she felt her eyes roll up into the back of her head in sheer terror. ‘Okay, alright, I can handle this, I’m getting a drink, he’s getting a drink…a river separates us…’ ‘Oh yes a good excuse for a STREAM is going to stop the two of you from your usual foreplay and arguments. Okay…we’ll see..’ ‘For the love of anything holy, please, please don’t make me try to drown myself in a few feet of water just to silence your stupid bill from clacking with such nonsense..’ A noncommittal muffled noise was all she heard in response… [/scrolly] | |

Vereine Talks , Vereine Thinks |
[/color] , Dupre Thinks[/center] Vereine tensed as he smelled the scent of another. It was oddly familiar, but still not enough to pinpoint whether it was friend or foe. Jet black feathers ruffled as the wolf shifted, torn between incredibly curious and slightly cautious. He sensed the raven grow tense as well, projection signs of distress and irritation. The wolf merely brushed it aside, far too questioning to worry about the second soul’s concerns. His eyes narrowed as he quickly scanned the landscape, hoping to make out a figure. Not seeing much at first, he continued onward, making his way toward the water source.
The scent was stronger now, and there was a name, a figure in his mind that recognized it, but just couldn’t comprehend fully. It pushed against his thoughts, as if to push through and shout at him the memories and information he had lost in the ruckus of his brain. The wolf’s brow furrowed as a figure had appeared before him, still quite far away, but noticeable. The mess of brown began to grow larger and more distinct as Vereine walked closer. The wolf had resided next to a tree, and as the wolf got closer, his mind snapped into recognition. Bloody hell, that’s not her is it... It can’t be, she was in what, the Cadre last time I had spoken to her? He mentally hissed, trying not to let his emotions get the best of him.
Dupre was in no better mood, scoffing as he too became familiar with the other. Her? Really? Out of all the wolves to meet on your little ‘coming back party’ you have to meet that thing? Vereine rolled his eyes at the raven’s attitude. You think you’re any better? She’s got that ducks bill doesn’t she? See, she’s practically related to you, dumbass. Obviously offended, the second soul let out a huff and when off to sulk in a corner of the wolf’s thoughts. Vereine tried to pay no head to the female, walking up to the water, purposely setting himself right in front of her. Acting as if she wasn’t there, he let his head dip down and lap up the water.
The cool liquid was welcomed greatly by the wolf, his expression of obvious relief. The dryness in his throat had begun to fade away and Vereine let out a quick sigh of contempt. Having the water pool into his stomach had lessened the need for food, but the slight pang of hunger was still there. He couldn’t remember the last time he had a decent meal and made sure to add that to his little mental checklist. He could sense the soft hum of the raven’s appreciation as well, clearly pleased with the water as well as the wolf. On the ever so rare days like these, the two would manage to get along with each other to a certain extent. If the actions of one had pleased the other, it showed signs of a good day to come. Though, being the stubborn fool he is, Vereine was never one to comply with Dupre’s wishes.
Still, good days didn’t go unappreciated. When Dupre was in one of his better moods, waves of calm and serenity would be broadcasted and leave the bird as a quiet lull at the back of his mind. It put the black wolf in a more tranquil state and manage to not get himself into any trouble. The two would be on a mutual agreement of sorts, just talking to each other as a means of company and not act like the usual pain in the ass. Those good days of course, seemed to be like once in a blue moon things.
Clearly, today would not have been one of those days. The raven soul’s irritation continued to bubble though he remained silent. Vereine’s eyes flickered over to the female every once in a while, just studying her for a moment then focusing his attention back to the water. The wolf couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward. The last time they had spoken, they ended on such odd terms, he wasn’t entirely sure on where he stood with the other. He was in the mood for a quick banter though. Dupre would provide the occasional cure to his deathly boredom, but the opportunity to speak with another wouldn’t have been so awful. Besides, this would have been his chance to see how long he’s been gone or what he’s missed.
Lifting his head, he looked over the female once more. Her name was still just on the tip of his tongue, but his memory just wouldn’t comply. She looked the same as he had remembered her. The odd beaver’s tail and the mouth of a duck, the mellow tones of brown and her yellow underbelly. Such an odd contrast to his drab and colorless pelt. Sitting up straight now, he let his wings relax a bit, relieving them from their usual position, pressed tight against his body. ”You wouldn’t happen to know where this place is exactly, would you?” His voice sounded odd to his ears, like someone else had spoken instead of him. It sounded quite calm, a bit amused as well, but still quite foreign. Told you your voice wasn’t as pretty as you hoped it to be. I wasn’t the one who was concerned about what I sounded like, it was you on the other hand who had their feathers all ruffled up because of something so trivial. Tch.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,392,true] | [atrb=background,http://i.imm.io/6nVp.png][scrolly:h(249),w(392),sy]If she had not had any control over her emotions her tongue might have slipped from her beak in shock and she would have sat there and stared at Vereine unbelieving that he was trying to pass off not knowing her. Did he fall and hit his head, or flap his wings too hard? What exactly had happened that was making him act like this, and more to the point why did she even care? She although having her own fit of odd moments insanity, she had never forgotten his dark face, or scrawny wings, or the banter that had started off as annoying and moved itself into something completely different. For once Erena was quiet, Oteka’s puzzlement and even the idea that she might be hurt by this façade was confusing even the most…cheerful of second souls. Erena did not know whether a kindly joke would push Oteka over the edge, and she didn’t know if trying to figure out the male’s actions would only goad Oteka into some kind of fit. For once Erena thought silence might be better until they knew exactly what was going on.
She had seen a small flicker of something chase across his face, if only for a moment. Oteka’s eyesight was not the best and she could thank Erena for that, it could possibly by helpful when she was trying to avoid her own appearance but for seeking out the smaller, harder to find details in one’s face, well some times she just had to miss those things. But he was not so far away that she didn’t catch that small fleeting emotion. This per chance hurt her more than if he had truly forgotten her. It meant he remembered her, at least in some capacity but was going to try to act like she wasn’t important or didn’t exist. She supposed she should have expected this, she knew not many other residences of the Cadre, or anywhere else actually like her, but she would have expected to leave a lingering expression, bad as it was. If she would have had a typical wolven nose, it would have wrinkled in distaste as she watched him across the river, but all she had was her bill, which had clacked shut in a tight line of temper.
The fact that he sat right in front of her made it hard to completely ignore him, which has been her original plan. If he wanted to play like he didn’t know her she could damn well act like he didn’t exist. She could survive damn well on her own without ever running into him again. She shook her shoulders to ease the tension out of them and then leaned down herself to enjoy the water. She had had a small meal the plains had provided and so now it was just a matter of staying hydrated while on her journey to….well she had no idea where she was going actually. She knew she probably would not end up back in the Cadre’s lands, and she could not survive up in the northern territories. No matter how much she may have wanted to torture Erena, neither one of them would last long in territories that had more snow then shelter, and she had to be able to access the water whether she liked it not. It was a part of her being to feed out of the water, as she had done in the canyon during her time there.
Out of the corner of her dark chocolate eyes she watched him drink, and felt the small bristled hairs of her outer pelt stiffen with tension. She seemed to blend in rather well, a nice light chocolate pelt color, but with a quite noticeable bright yellow patch of soft underbelly. She snorted slightly at the water, maybe she wasn’t nearly as unattractive as she thought, at least she was colored beautifully. A new stature took over and she sat back with pride, her spine straight, having drank her fill. She concentrated on the few good thoughts she had, the jewels flickering off the walls in her den back in the Cadre territory, the cooling waters of the spring, and the cold rocks, moist with the water from the waterfall. Oh yes, she could stay here and day dream for quite a long time, and ignore the winged idiot across the river in the process. For once she mentally thanked Erena for her silence, though she had enjoyed her company in the swamp, the past few days seemed as though there was a tentative truce going on, and Oteka could not have been more thankful the last thing she needed right now was any mental break of any sort, especially not in front of Vereine of all people. In between having her eyes closed and living back through her day dreams she could feel and occasionally catch his eyes on her, and she simply rolled her eyes and continued to sit in silence. There was no way she was going to berate him first and start all that shit up again. If he chose to come out with an insult or a comment, then she might respond but as of right now she could be just as stupid and act like they didn’t know each other.
Suddenly his voice called out over the water, the sound of it carrying to her ears, which flicked this way and that and finally rested flat against her skull in annoyance. ‘Ah so now we go from silent indifference and acting like he doesn’t know me to asking polite yet stupid questions.’ Her beaver-like tail slapped the earth below in annoyance as her eyes opened, looking nearly black in the light as she turned her head to look at him. Even Erena continued to stay silent, not really knowing what to do, she didn’t understand the male’s behavior, but she had also seen Oteka mad, and for once Erena didn’t want to be the target. “Hmm….well long grasses, small sources of water…no cliffs…No this isn’t Cadre lands….but it’s not wet enough to be a swamp, not cold enough to be the northern lands, and not lush enough to be the eastern lands…..so…I guess…you’re in the Plains of Dteria, north of the Cadre’s pack lands.” She snorted with disgust and stood up and shook off. “You making it a habit now to act like you don’t know anyone you think is beneath you?” Okay, so she couldn’t help but pick a fight, it was just too ingrained in her personality.

Vereine didn’t get nervous, no it wasn’t nerves at all. Perhaps a bit eager? Maybe. He heard Dupre snicker in the back of his mind, a mix between irritated and entertained with the male’s strange behavior. He was usually the smooth talking, constant facade, and always collected type of wolf, but now, now Vereine was sure what he was. In a sense, he still felt like himself, same annoying child he’s always been, but there was something different. There was something that just wasn’t him. For one of the very few times in his life, believed it wasn’t Dupre’s fault. He knew the raven soul has caused him to switch from personality to personality on multiple occasions, but there just wasn’t something right about what was going on inside his funny little head. It was something that he, for a fact, had never known or felt before, it was something entirely foreign to him, and honestly, it frightened him a bit.
He wasn’t going insane, not really, but part of him wanted to believe that. Insanity was the killer of all, it was where you lost your true self and was ravaged in a delusional state. It’s like dark pit, where the darkness was your home and the only solace you’re able to obtain is the unnerving quiet of your damaged mind. But this insanity was different. This insanity was the sort where the thoughts of your own were all you could here and that the sights, sounds, and everything from the outside world was not only irrelevant, but cut out entirely. His mind was cluttered with what he thought was rubbish, feelings, emotions, the things that Vereine would kill to rid off. He suppressed a snarl as his anger threatened to take over.
Feelings were rubbish. They were useless and held no true purpose. They just messed with you’re thoughts and true intentions and turned you into a false creature. But then again, Vereine seemed to be living a lie everyday. It wasn’t like he had feelings for the other though... no, not at all! All he wanted was to win her in his favor, nothing more. Yes, she was a bit... interesting and kept him around, but he didn’t fancy her or anything. No, he hadn’t really fancied anyone in a very long time. Denial. It’s like a sick joke. Dupre laughed, oddly entertained by the wolf’s mind. I thought you didn’t want me to ‘like’ her. Shouldn’t you be aiding my so called ‘denial’? He merely sensed the bird shrug and grow silent, most likely going off to continue to enjoy the show that played before him. That and then perhaps dig through the ebony wolf’s thoughts some more.
Black and pure white eyes flickered back to the female. He tried to hid an amused look as he noticed the other puff up in pride a bit, but couldn’t help the faint smile that played on his lips. He couldn’t help but notice feeling that she was trying to ignore him. Oh no, that wouldn’t do, not at all. Vereine could be taken as many. An attention whore? Perhaps. Maybe someone who was so damn clingy and in need to love? Desperate if one really looked deep down, but no. The myou was often considered as the arrogant and bastardly sort, filled with too much pride and not enough love. But what was there for him to take pride him? His god awful build or his dull and unfashionable looks? Even his wings, what was usually one of the most astounding attributes in others, was just an extra set of appendages that didn’t quite fit his body. But yes, who didn’t love a good ol’ scrawny twat who had far too much time on his hands. A wave of amusement drifted through his thoughts, the raven soul clearly enjoying the other’s self admiration.
Vereine’s ears perked a bit when the sound of the female’s voice reached his ears. you’re in the Plains of Dteria, north of the Cadre’s pack lands. North of the Cadre? That wasn’t that far was it? He hadn’t really ever wandered north before, but her information tempted his curiosity even more. How did he even get here, and also, why was she here as well? He was forced to assume that the plains the female spoke of were fairly far from the lands of the Cadre, so as to how he managed the journey was beyond him. He wasn’t particularly fond of making a long trek without reason. Wandering within a nice perimeter of his pack’s lands was the usual, but now... Now he didn’t even know anymore. Sleep walking perhaps. You do tend to be a wreck when you sleep. Very helpful, Dupre. Now if you please, let the adults speak? Why don’t you run off to your nest, or whatever you dreadful birds sleep in. Before the second-soul was able to reply, the female spoke.
You making it a habit now to act like you don’t know anyone you think is beneath you? Pardon? His eyes narrowed ever so slightly as he looked over her again, trying to find if wanted to show any other signs of clear irritation. Might as well fight fire with fire then... Irritating others truly was a great talent of his. ”Well no, actually. What I do seem to be making a habit of is running into the same beautiful miss over and over again.” Vereine replied, giving a curt nod and then lifting his head to meet her eyes with his own. His tone was a tie between playful teasing and light mocking. He was never one to let a remark like that slide. He felt Dupre swell with pride and sure determination to set the other in her place. Now as much as Vereine enjoyed putting other’s ‘beneath him’, it was Dupre who felt like he ran everything. His raven pride got in the way of his overly large ego, so the combination of the two was no good for Vereine or who ever would be on the receiving side of the bird’s attitude. Of course, Dupre was unable to outwardly communicate with anyone other than the black wolf, but his intentions often managed to snake their way into those of Vereine’s.
The wolf resisted the urge to sigh and mentally shook his head at the raven’s trivial behavior. Focusing back on the other, he let his head tilt to the side, his eyes questioning hers. ”So what brings you out here, Miss” He said, his voice sounding earnestly curious but still his playful tone was quite obvious.

Oteka was entirely unsure of what to do now, on the outside she wanted to go over there, and more than anything she wished she had a wolf’s mouth because she would bite his paws off, and his ears, and possibly his tongue. Well in reality he would probably all be in pieces. But as it was she did not have that, she had a bill and a beaver-like tail. Now in all honestly if she could break prey’s bones with a swing or two, she was sure she could make Vereine scream for mercy if she could just manage to get herself close enough to him and stay close enough without making a fool out of herself. She sighed inwardly, no it just wasn’t possible, she would be a fool no matter what she did. In fact the whole sitting here and having a conversation with him right now was making a fool out of herself, he always managed to rile her to heights of unknown rage and anger. Well, he wasn’t usually alone, Erena usually managed to help out, bashing the larger female out of misery for her own situation. Oteka had to wonder if all second soul relationships seemed as bad as hers. Did other’s have second souls that truly drove them crazy? Abused them? I mean how bad could it get. Erena said quietly in the back of her head, ‘It could be much worse than you think.’
Oteka snorted in response, she couldn’t imagine things getting much worse than the situation she was staring down right now. She began to pathetically whine to herself mentally, ‘Why does this keep happening? Everywhere I go, every place I visit, I mean I could understand being in pack territory and running into him. But I went to a DAMN PLAINS to get away. PLAINS! PLAINS! How is it possible he is here now?’ Erena chose now to try to highlight the positives, ‘Well he wasn’t in the swamps….’ Oteka thought of that for a moment, it was true, and he probably wouldn’t condescend to enter the swamps either, and Oteka couldn’t see herself staying there on a permanent basis, not that there wasn’t enough defenses, and plenty of positives for Erena and herself, but she saw herself somewhere else…and right now, she meant anywhere else. When her eyes bothered to look over at him, seeing as he had placed himself in a position in which it was hard to ignore it looked as though he were having an argument with himself, or his inner self. Oteka’s ears went flat against her head in pleasure and she got a slow smile on her bill (only to be described as rather grinch-like), ah so he knew what it was like to have to deal with a smartass second soul.
It all made her rather curious, not that she would admit it aloud or anything, but one did indeed have to wonder. She looked at the male again, speechless and silent, yes outwardly she had all the tell tale signs of hatred, but was that how she really felt? Erena made a small sound in the back of her mind. Oteka mentally swung her head from side to side. No, it just wasn’t possible to care for anyone with the amount of flesh ripping she wanted to do to him. Also, what was there to care for? Every time they met they made biting comments to each other, every time they met one of them ended up storming away from the other, the sheer idea of caring for him was simply not possible, or plausible. Erena once again felt the need to make her point, ‘Then why do you still end up seeing each other at every turn?’ ‘Wild coincidence?’ ‘Coincidences don’t exist, something is obviously happening here, maybe you should stop fighting fate..’ ‘You can’t seriously tell me you believe in fate Erena?’ The other made a noncommittal sound and slunk back to the darkness of her mind and all she was left with was the male centered in her vision, and here she was with nothing to do, no food to eat, and she had just about drank her fill. Of course for a quick escape she could always jump into the water and slid on downhill…Tantalizing but not the most dignified move she had ever made.
She could plainly see that Vereine needed attention, no he thrived on it, that was the only possible reason in the hell where she remained that he continued to try to aggravate a response out of her every time they met. He refused to be ignored, every action had a purpose and the purpose as far as she was concerned to set all her nerve endings on fire with his quick wit responses and irritatingly aggravating turns of phrase. She could see her comment had both amused him and irritated him by the look in his eyes, and hers lit up with happiness at the very thought that she had irritated him. This was just further proof that there was no way she could have fancied him because she delighted in making him feel nothing but negative emotions. Their’s was a hostile relationship and she was perfectly content to let it remain so. When she heard his comment however, her ears went from perked and listening to back against her skull in threat. She did not know how to handle such an outrageous lie told bluntly to her face. He was truly going to act like they hadn’t spent the last few months trying to bite off each other’s head’s in passing? Or the string of insults they had thrown at each other? Although to be fair he had always attacked her attitude, never her physical form, she however preferred to call attention to his lackluster appearance.
She sighed slightly and stared at him pointedly, Erena could not have been happier, ‘See! He is back to himself, complimenting and charming, don’t ruin it for yourself!’ Oteka rolled her eyes slightly as she turned her head to look up river. She thought about throwing him a complete curve ball, and acting in a manner totally unaccustomed. Since he was going to play the completely different card, why couldn’t she? “Well I am glad to hear some truth come out of your mouth for a change during this exchange. It’s a shame I can’t say the same about running into the same handsome fellow.” She smirked and clipped her bill in temper as she leaned down to take a drink and pushed her eyes into the water, so as she would not have to look at his reaction, it didn’t matter anyway. It was very unlikely for her to simply take a compliment, nor handle an insult back…well at least not that order, and so she was in un familiar territory and slightly off balance, not that she would ever let him know that. She listened to him speak again, and for the second time he called her Miss, and it was grating on her wonderfully frazzled nerves. Her head shot up, done drinking as she glared at him. “Miss, is not my name, it is not even a nickname, it is a con man’s way to try to make a female feel special. MY name is Oteka. You’ve met me on several occasions and managed to forget it every time, which is beyond me considering that I am not forgettable in any sense of the word. As for what I am doing here, I thought, hmmm, since it’s getting colder why don’t I go north and freeze my tail off? Maybe, just maybe I came north to get away from you, which I can see has been a completely exercise in futility. Can you even tell me why you are here? Vereine?” She knew his name like she knew of her childhood, and she knew she’d never forget it, damn him and all these weird emotions, arguments, and for lack of a better word, infatuation…

Pain. Silence. Denial. Fear. Scratch the silence, there was nothing silent about his mind right now. All of his thoughts conflicted with each other, and somehow, they all revolved around the myou standing in front of him. Run and ignore her and completely forget about the confrontation, or stay and continued to do... well what was he doing? Annoying her? Pestering her? That’s what he would like to think... That’s what he needed to think, because there was no other reason, there wasn’t! Denial. This was where the denial rolled in. Vereine’s personal moral codes forbid what part of him dared to think. But then again... Surely this female had the ability to hurt him in some way or form, of course not verbally because it took a hell of a lot to hurt his ego, but physically... It was fairly easy to break his bones, there’s no need to even bother denying it. So why hasn’t she? She seemed like a wolf with strength and stamina to at least do some sort of damage, even a scratch or bite, it wasn’t impossible at all. She also had so many chances in the past, he even put his defenses down at one point, simply sleeping in front of her, she could have went in for the kill... so why didn’t she?
Because you aren’t worth her time, let alone anyone’s time at all! The raven laughed, amused with what the wolf was implying. Vereine mentally rolled his eyes, not even wanting to bother with the second soul anymore. Well really, I mean if you had the opportunity, you would go for it wouldn’t you? Hell, even I would snap my neck if I could, so there surely must be a reason as to why she hasn’t yet... The raven’s laughter continued to echo through his mind, Dupre was clearly enjoying himself today. And what? You think she shares... your feelings? Come on, Knoxie dear... You and I both know, you have no feelings. This is just a childish phase of yours. And besides, you’re dull as a brick and a complete prat. Why would someone have even the smallest amount of positive feelings for you? Thank you, Dupre. Your condescension, as always, is greatly appreciated. Another round of laughter came from the second soul before he fell quiet once more.
Perhaps Dupre was right though. Maybe it was just Vereine’s own insatiable desire to be loved and thought so highly of that caused him to over-think things. It wouldn’t have been the first time. With his family when he was so young, he needed to be cared for, desired the feeling of being loved, but was thrown around like trash, discriminated and left to die. Perhaps this was why the urge was stronger now, especially since his emotions felt like going into complete chaos. The raven thought other wise though, as Vereine could sense the bird grumble out the words ‘attention whore.’ along with other inaudible slurs. When he turned back to the other myou, he found her ears flat against her skull and what seemed to be a smile playing on the duck bill of hers. It made him want to question what she was thinking. Could she tell about his bickering with Dupre and manage to find some sick sort of amusement in it? Dupre’s interest was caught again and took note of Vereine’s little hypothesis, now growing curious about the other myou alongside the male.
He watched her carefully as she began to speak, keeping his ears tuned and listening in on the words that flowed out of her mouth. Well I am glad to hear some truth come out of your mouth for a change during this exchange. So she wasn’t degrading herself anymore? Well this was a change, an interesting change actually. He was so use to her putting herself down, speaking as if she didn’t look ‘pretty’ or ‘normal’. From the very first moment they met, acid tones, harsh words, insults here and there. Now this was another sort of banter. It was new, different, a challenge. It’s a shame I can’t say the same about running into the same handsome fellow. Vereine couldn’t help but give a small smile, amused by the other myou’s change. ”Full of surprises, aren’t you...” he mused, enjoying himself quite a bit. ”Though, why you think only now I speak the truth is beyond me.” Dupre gave a loud huff, not even bothering to question Vereine anymore. Back and forth, back and forth, all over again. It was near impossible to tell what the ebony myou was playing at. One moment he demands to put on the usual show of mock hatred, and the next he demands he has feelings he must continue to suppress.
The female continued to speak after lifting her head from her drink, and Vereine was met with a fairly crossed look. it is a con man’s way to try to make a female feel special. A con? Well he never thought of it that way, but he didn’t argue with her statement. He continued to listen to her speak, a brow arched and a smug tint in his eyes. MY name is Oteka. You’ve met me on several occasions and managed to forget it every time, which is beyond me considering that I am not forgettable in any sense of the word. Oteka. That was her name, Oteka. ”I never said you were forgettable, I never doubted it since the moment I met you. You’re different. Whether it’s a good or bad different, I have yet to decide but you are truly something. It’s impossible to forget you. The odd myou I met in Canyon by the River, twice for that matter. The one who thought she wasn’t worth the time, and shot down every attempt I took to actually be nice to. I still don’t even know what worries me more, my damaged ego and pride or that you have better judgement than most people. So no, I don’t question the fact that you are unforgettable.” Vereine took in a deep breathe, the small speech shocking not only Dupre but himself as well.
For the love of all things holy and unholy, what in the hell did you just do... The raven’s voice broke the silence in Vereine’s head. Regret. He had no regrets. The words he spoke were the words he would never take back, because Vereine was not a wolf of regret but a wolf who did what he did because he didn’t give a damn. No regrets... He said the words over and over again inside his head, because right now that’s what he needed to believe in. He needed to believe that he didn’t regret a single word he said and that Oteka’s opinion of him would either change him for better or worse. He had almost forgot about her last question, and opened his mouth to answer, his gaze on hers still unbreaking. ”And as for my reason for being here... Well honestly, I’m not entirely sure. I’m positive it’s not as good of a reason as yours, but other than that, my answer is lost from me.” Confidence. Calm and Collected. He kept those words in mind and portrayed them to the best of his abilities at the moment. Dupre continued to remain silent, from disappointment or shock, Vereine couldn’t tell but right now, the raven soul was not his concern. Right now, his concern was directed on Oteka, and Oteka alone.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,392,true] | [atrb=background,http://i.imm.io/6nVp.png][scrolly:h(249),w(392),sy] There was a constant dance going on in her head. On the one hand there was Oteka, and Erena, always at odds with one another, dancing in and out of sane and insane patches of awareness. If Oteka gave more to the second soul of hers, she found her existence to be more pleasant than painful, and could actually seek out enjoyment, solitary as it was it was enjoyment none the less. If however she stayed her course in tormenting her second soul, life often became a dance of wills and sheer stubborn nature of which she had never seen in any other myou or wolf she had run in to as of yet. Of course Vereine was not someone to whom she would consider stubborn, just annoying as all hell. Although in consideration she and he had been dancing around each other since they had first met. It had all started in bad temper and as far as Oteka was concerned it would probably always be in bad temper, he just had this irksome way about him. Like he was supposed to harm her pelt right off of her or something when she knew he was downright lying to her. How dare he. In fact if she were smart she would turn around this very minute and storm off and try to head somewhere on this rock hard planet that would keep her away from him for good. Erena added in her colorful commentary, ‘Although you won’t, and you know you won’t, you would want him to follow you, I think you are even happy to see him now, many excuses as you give…’ Even though the little platypus inside her head was right that did not mean she had to admit it in any capacity.
She closed her eyes for a long moment as if she had been in pain simply by staring at him, which could very well be the case. Simply looking at him from his differently colored eyes, to the flexible nature of his ebony wings and lanky body did cause her pain. But not the type of pain she would expect. It was nearly physical in nature and she was old enough to know what it was. Behind closed lids she watched as a screen show of memories flashed before her very eyes. The time they had met, where she had wadded into the water, and they both had practically sweltered in the searing sun. In addition to the weather around them they had both sniped at each other for several hours, then when they had met by the water fall in a beautiful surroundings only to snipe and stare at each other in the most weird fashion imaginable. Neither those scenarios or the one sitting in front of her now were ideal but in some fashion at least she knew were Vereine stood with her. He had honestly stated that she was interesting, not bad looking but not the usual either. He must have liked her in some sense because he continued to try to engage her in conversation regardless of how nasty it turned out to be in the end because of her own insecurities and temper problems. She sighed inwardly, with Vereine she could count on him to be the same wolf she had run into in the Cadre’s lands but not everyone was like him, there were duplicitous personalities all around, ones that she knew she would never be able to trust, which is why she ran most of them off upon meeting them, but it did make for a lonely life…Erena made a sound as though she were hurt….but it wasn’t an insult to the second soul, it was simply that she wanted to be normal, be able to hunt and travel on her own without having to watch for every kind of threat.
Unfortunately for Oteka, with Erena’s adaptations she was not able to hunt, or really defend herself, she was forced into becoming a pack member because she couldn’t be independent, it was really just one more nail on the coffin to her humiliation and hatred for this particular existence. In her moment of thought she could feel the sun beating down on her, and as cool as it was being winter, and the winds around them it did not move a hair on her pelt. The sensations and sounds around her filtered into her ears and before she knew it her eyes had opened up once more and she looked at the wolf in front of her, into his eyes, and over his wings, and back down to the water again before going back to listening. Erena poked in of course once more, ‘Well you know he looked as quiet as you, perhaps he is thinking about the first time you met as well, or maybe he is thinking of the next nice thing to say you to you, now you don’t always have to think the worst, just like what you said, you know what to expect from him…’ Oteka replied mentally with, ‘Yes to be a pretend charming, irritating, insulting….winged brained fool…’ Erena chuckled lowly, ‘At least you know though, and as we both know you enjoy it to a great extent or you wouldn’t be so pleased to have him here and you would have walked away.’ A snort that sounded a little offered was all that was given to let the second soul know she had heard it, possible even agreed although she would never say or think it aloud.
She could see in the smile, and the look in his face he was pleased with this change in her personality, not that she cared…(A lie but a smoothly covered one…denial was indeed a wonderful thing.) But she intended to try to throw him off somehow, to see how he reacted, if she was going to be hell bent on being attracted to him, and liking his company she might as well find out every aspect of his personality that she possibly could. Although one could not go about doing that so obviously, some times it required a little manipulation and devious methods. None of which she was particular fond of but well, there were worse things out there she supposed, although had the problem been on another’s proverbial paw she would have been disgusted with the very idea of them using such methods on her. She turned her head slightly, even tilted it as she looked at him for a long moment considering his comment about just recently telling the truth. “There are those out there, much like you that use charm, and flirtation, and compliments to gain something from someone else, while I am sure you are one of those, it is easier to pin down one’s intentions when they allow themselves to be so obviously seen for what they are.” She mentioned nothing of her own recent bout of confidence because honestly while she did not think she was the ugliest thing around she would still give a part of her soul to be normal…in fact she would give Erena to be normal..the second soul made a few low comments in response to being the “unwilling sacrifice..”
She saw his smile as she stated he was a con man, although she did not know if he was acknowledging such an aspect to himself or if he was amused with another part of her speech after all, she was not a mind reader, though it would have come in much handy in dealing with wolves such as Vereine. Though to date he was the only one she had tolerated for quite this long knowing that he had several faces, and not all of them true and generously nice, quite the opposite, and no matter how she might have considered it foreplay or a build up to anything else, for some reason a part of her loved it, and a part of her hated it. She listened to his string of compliments, rather taken aback by what he was saying, because it blended very nicely with the thought and screen shots she had seen behind her eyes earlier. Her eyes took on a rather guarded look, but not unpleasant as she listened to how she was not forgettable, and how she was something, although he did not know if she was unique in a good way or a bad way, which gave her pause. “If I am not forgettable then why do you forget my name each time we meet? If I am not forgettable then why do we constantly dance around each other in an attempt to irritate each other in the worst manner possible?” She decided she would take his wounded ego and pride, as well as her having better judgment as the compliment she knew it was meant to be, and for once not argue about it. For Oteka now it was the time for truth, she needed to know exactly why things were the way they were for the two of them.
Her facial features seemed to soften slightly as she watched his body language, which said intensely that he seemed uncomfortable, and surprised at his own speech, which meant his mouth was saying exactly what his brain might have wanted to deny. This fascinated the platypus-myou in front of him. Her shoulders sank in resignation as she realized what he had just said to her, and that unfortunately for her she felt along the same lines as him but had not articulated it to him. With a sigh she stubbornly looked at the ground, “Well, I certainly can’t seem to forget you, much as I enjoy your company…I’m pleased to see you here…regardless of how you got here…” She nearly swallowed the last sentence, finding it close to stones to try to push out of her muzzle. At least this way he could see that she also felt a certain way about him, and that her opinion hadn’t dropped nearly as much as he might be assuming it would. Her webbed paws scraped at the soft mud banks in front of her, and tried to concentrate on it very hard before she lifted her dark chocolate eyes to meet his and made a sharp intake of breath as she realized that he was looking at her, and only her, and not with disgust or hate….”What now Vereine?” His name slipped out of her mouth like a cold gush of water, she was surprised she didn’t seem steam after his name but instead tried very hard to concentrate on meeting his eyes in the most forth coming manner.
