Flowers were blooming and insects were busy carrying out their duty. A few stubborn clumps of snow still lingered under the shade of trees and boulders. The sky was bright and blue as clouds danced around on gentle breezes.
Moving steadily through the quickly growing grass, a stocky greyish female moved. Her leathery wing and a half were open to catch the rays of sun she could as she moved. Her brown and pink speckled pelt shone with renowned health. A few times the sun would catch and glint off her odd scales. Her heavy tail was, for once, not dragging behind her. She was actually holding her self at a proper height, not submitting to whispers and shadows. She had gained a little confidence since she had returned to the valley. She no longer loathed her reflection in the water and though she still hide her deformity from others, she did not try to avoid them when questions were asked.
She had learned a lot in her travels and every day she strove to learn more. She was getting closer to deciphering the rest of the marks in the cave. She was actually visiting the river to take a break. She was covered with smudges of berries, plants and wet clay. All things she used to write and document things. She found a shallow part of the river and looked around with her soft brown eyes to make sure that no one was lurking in the vicinity. Slowly she stepped into the ice cold water. She allowed a smile to cross her features as the chilling sensation made her fur raise a little.
She eased herself onto her belly. Almost giggling as the water swept over her. Her voice was like the gentle chime of a bell. She soaked for a little, then began to roll in the water coating herself with the freezing liquid. She lashed her tail and pushed herself toward the deeper part of the river to go for a swim. She used her powerful tail to make her glide through the water like a crocodile. She kept her head above the water for a while before dunking under. Her wings made it a little difficult to move gracefully under the water. Had she had a full pair of wings she may have been able to fly through the water and the sky, but the Great Spirit had not been kind in her creation.
She allowed her self to be submersed in her recreation, popping up now and then to breathe. She even tried her hand at fishing, though more for fun than actual sustenance. She chased a few fish through the reeds, but never really committed to hunting them down just yet. She carried on for a while before finally coming up for air, panting as she moved back to the shallows. She took a moment to rest in the water, putting her head on a smooth and dry river rock near the edge. Speech

He peered over at the resting Skyler, a huge fat smile on his features. Wystar had found some sort of feelings for Skyler, of friend or family... he wasn't sure, but he knew he liked her overall. She was different from the rest of the pack, she was special. Mysterious almost. And he wanted to get to know her partially to gloat to his friends and family and partially since that's what friends did, right? They got to know each other.
"Hey Sky, what's up? Ya look pretty comfy in da water. If it didn't look so deep I would join ya... but..." he sweat dropped and tried to avert his gaze when he uttered. "I don't know how ta swim..." The chocolate laced hybrid sat down in front of Skyler as he looked at her in the face. Cocking his head to one side, he asked, what has she been through. What makes a wolf what they are? Who they are? How do you earn your rank and why must there be other wolves with ranks lower or higher than yourself? Too many questions...
He then got lost in the shifting waters, it sure looked like a lot of fun, but would it be alright? Wyst wasn't one to ask for help but when it came down to it... if he really wanted to do something and needed help to do it. He would ask. The hybrid looked over towards the other again with an almost needy look on his face.
"Hey Sky... ya think..." he glanced at the water again as he slowly began to wag his tail. Then he peered up at her. "Ya think you could, ya know... teach me maybe? That would be so awesome!" Wystar panted excitedly. Would it be alright with her? Or would she shove his away and wish to be left alone? The pup hoped they could become closer friends.

She opened her soft brown eyes and found the oddly colored hybrid standing near her. She lifted her head with a small smile to greet him. "Hello Wystar". She pushed herself to a sitting position while still in the water. Her fur gleamed a little as the rivulets of droplets found their way back home to the river. She glanced over the pup then at the river. "Well, where I am standing, it isn't too deep. Sometimes just wading if a way to get used to swimming."
She herself had a hard time learning how to swim. As much as her cael half wanted to get in the water, her keiyou half was resistant. Once she convinced herself she could do it, she ended up not being half bad. Most of it came naturally. She suspected that it was the same for most mammals. However before she could get another word in, the pup assaulted her with a barrage of questions. She blinked, overwhelmed and a bit confused. Did he actually want the answers? Or was he just asking questions to ask them?
Her new rank of storyteller meant that she needed to answer the questions, however she would prefer only to have them one at a time. He didn't seem like he wanted a lecture right now though. The strange look in his eyes as he looked at the water, then back at her with a look that no one had ever given her before. She was needed? The idea gave her pause. Her ears flickered forward, "Teach you?" She had never done that before. The look on his face was compelling enough that her maternal instinct stirred. "I can try...It is not that hard once you get used to it. You just walk in and keep walking, just keep your head above water." She wadded in, as if to show him.
She looked back at him as she folded her wings tightly to her sides. "Just come out this far." It wasn't too deep, potentially it would just come up to his chest. Slow and easy, right? That was the best way to do it. She figured she could answer the other questions after he had exhausted himself. She waited for him to come to her, holding her tail out as an anchor against the tugging current.
