Terra walked at the trotting speed of a traveling wolf, her hooves clacking against the ground. She stopped when the sun went down, curled up underneath a tree the way her Kukkien parents had when they stopped during their travels. When the sun had finally come up, she had stood and begun to continue on her way. She had begun to feel cold, her fur used to the heat. Her fur had begun to thicken from the reduced heat. The ground felt oddly soft beneath her feet, the ground far different from the grainy sand her hooves were used to balancing on. She traveled on and on for hours, this having been her month anniversary of traveling from Hotali to Lumara Valley, and she had finally been close. She rested once more, Terra hoped that this would be her last night that she slept as a loner. Before she decided to enter the packs lands, she hunted down a jackalope and flying fish, eating her fill. She continued to travel, feeling the food making her feel slow, clumsy, and awkward. Soon she realized that she had overeaten, so that she had to be careful with her traveling so that she didn’t get an upset stomach. Finally her stomach shrunk back to size. She kneeled next to a lake, lapping up water. At last she stood, and managed to get the rest of the way to the territory. She stood at the brim of the territory, Heimili Forest just in site. Her head went back and she announced her entrance and position.

He had promised Satinka that he would not attempt to fly high anymore. His age and lack of one good eye had permanently grounded him despite having a pair of massive and sleek feathered wings. He could glide now and fly short, low distances, but that was the extent. One too many near deadly falls had put an end to his high-flying days. So he had taken to trotting through the forest with his wings extended, flapping them now and then just to attempt to have the sensation back.
His canter was cut short though as a howl echoed through the trees. Why was it that so many wolves made it this deep into the pack-lands with out his notice? Perhaps he should extend his territory so that the den forest would be safer. Or maybe just increase the guard around the forest. For now he would attend to his alpha duties and interview another wolf for his pack.
It did not take long to find her, she was kind enough to give her location in the howl. Courteousness was always welcome in his pack. The tall keiyou came around some large old tree and set his blue eyes on an eremus. The orange and black male paused and considered her appearance a moment. He had not had one of those in his pack before, but he had heard of them. It seemed odd that a desert dwelling wolf would seek refuge here. However he had no complaints to her joining. The winter had driven some wolves away from his pack, it was good for freshening his ranks.
He cleared his throat and parted his dark, grey speckled maw to speak his presence, "Hello. It seems you have stumbled into my pack lands." He gave a charming smile as his oily voice broke the silence. His lion like tail twitched lightly, the white frock of fur flicking in the air. The scar across the right side of his face seemed to be darker with the shadows of the forest. The cloudy blue eye in the scar showed that he was mostly blind in that eye. However the ruggedness of his face did not take away from his distinguished looks and personality. Age had at least been kind to him in that sense.
"Thank you for telling me where to find you, I take you are looking to join?"

After Terra lowered her head from her call, she sat down, resting her sore and tired hooves. She licked out the rocks that had gotten stuck in them. She leaned back on her hind legs, letting her eyes close as she relaxed for the first time since the beginning of her month long trip. She took on a nonaggressive position, her tail low, at least to her standards. To other wolves, it would have seemed half aggressive, but her tail was short, even to other Eremus. She went into a light sleep as she sat there, still aware, but her mind at rest. Her ears twitched to every sound, her brain quickly telling her that she was still safe. Her head rested on her chest. She shook her pelt, feeling some fur fall around her. It wasnt much though, and she was obviously through the worst of the shedding. One of her ears turned to the surrounding forest, as the faint sound of wings flapping and paws hitting the ground. The sound of paws on the ground was one she had to fight to remember, as usually wolves stood while she told stories, and in the desert there was pretty much only winged and hooved animals. A black and orange Keiyou came into her sight and she stood, lowering her head in a respectful nod. Her tail dropped lower. "Hi, I'm Terra. And your right, I would love to join your pack." She recognized him as the alpha so many spoke high of.

His eyes did happen to wander to her...hooves. Eremus always reminded him of myou, just minus the second soul really. They were an interesting breed, like the kukkien, and he liked interesting wolves. His tail flickered back and forth. He sat back on his narrow hips and looked at her face, trying to gauge her age. She seemed young enough to pull her weight, experienced enough perhaps to hold a good position. Then again he was running low on hunters since the winter lifted.
"I'm Reynard, the alpha of this pack. I am happy to accept anyone into my pack, as long as they are respectful and mindful of one another." He never really had problems with females, save for a few. He did, however, need more information about the stranger before he could allow her into the pack. He cleared his throat and continued speaking, "So I'm going to ask you to introduce yourself and tell me a little bit about your skills." A breeze moved through the old trees, singing a soft song to accompany the peaceful day.
His wings ruffled and relaxed at his flanks, he noticed one feather was out of place and turned his head to preen it quickly before looking back at her. He pawed the dirt a little, "And I would also be glad to answer any questions you may have for me, provided you are serious about joining my pack." There was nothing threatening in his tone, just matter of fact . A cautious leader was a wise leader, right? His family lived in this pack, he did not want to let riff-raff in that would harm them. His eyes studied her, making sure she was not attempting to lie to him. He needed to trust her if he was going to have her in his home.

Terra grinned back, thinking of whether to say she was born to her Kukkien parents or her Eremus parents. She opened her mouth to begin. "I'm Terra, born to a traveling back, daughter of Sandy and Flame. I barely remember them, though, and I consider the two Kukkien I stayed with my parents. Their names are Oak and Kiara." She paused for some time, though less than a minute, as she wasn't sure how to word her skills.
"I spent most of my life traveling, and I told and collected stories. I have a pretty good memory, and I can remember most, if not all, of the parts of a story." She wasn't sure if that counted as skills, so she went with it. "Uh... if you consider that skills." Her tone was almost questioning, but in the way of someone unsure, not someone asking a question. "I can hunt pretty well, too." She added, as though it was an afterthought. "Well, at least, from what I've heard."
She let her weight go into her hind legs, not in the way of an attack, but in the way of a wolf resting. "I was hoping to know about your packs hyearchy." She mumbled embarressedly. She hadnt payed much attention to the ranks in the packs she had visited, and she knew each one had different ranks.

He had no truly fond memories of his parents, but he had replaced his parents with his current family and could not be happier. Truth be told, he did not really care too much where a wolf hailed from, he just wanted to make sure he could trust them and that they would be an asset to the pack. He always needed storytellers, especially with another litter on the way. They could second as sitters if needed.
"I always enjoy a good story, and our young ones could always use knowledge for their betterment. If reciting these stories is your talent, I'm sure that you could fit in well as a Storyteller. " He pawed a little at the ground and considered a few things. He was short on hunters as well...."I have hunters in my ranks, but they are few, if you would be willing to hunt for the pack as well as help teach, I would be most grateful."
His ears flickered when she asked him about the hierarchy of the pack. That was delightfully refreshing in his eyes, so few wolves bothered to figure out the ranks at the get go. He cleared his throat and settled in to explain how things worked.
"Well, my rank is High Chief, I am the alpha of the pack. My second in command is my dear friend Yueh, he is known as the Chief. My mate, Satinka, is the Queen and a mother figure to the pack. If you have concerns you can seek her and she will make sure your voice is heard." He paused, considering where to go from there. "I am slowing forming what I like the call the Council of Elder's. I plan to have the aged of the pack offer advice when needed. So far I have one member, and once my heirs come to age I plan to join the Council myself." He gave a winning smile, he knew he was getting old, but he planned on ruling strong until his sons were ready for the pack.
He took a moment to scratch at an itch on his ear before continuing. "Next we have the Guardians. The leader of the Guardians is a dear friend of mine called Coneiron. Their job is to protect the pack by patrolling the borders and bringing in new members when I cannot. If the need should arise, they will fight for the pack. Little ones are young and inexperienced wolves that are training to be guardians. Then there are the Storytellers, those wolves, like you, that share stories and swap knowledge. They teach the young and the eager. I can direct you to Skyler for more information on that. She is my main Storyteller at the moment. " He looked her over, making sure that she understood what her rank would entail.
"My healers are the Nurses. They mend the wounded and collect medicinal herbs when needed. My mate is also gifted in this area and is considered a healer herself. Next would be the hunters. They hunt for the pack, help the other members when needed. They can act as assistants, messengers as well as reinforcements. They are very well rounded individuals. The sitters are charged with caring for the young. They protect them, feed them when needed, and can be wet nurses if something were to happen to a mother." He paused again, he had never had to use a wet nurse while he ruled. But he did know a wolf in the pack that needed one before his reign began.
His smile faded a little for the last two ranks, they were grim to carry and he did not like branding wolves with them. "The Nothings are the lowest ranking pack members. They have not gained my full trust, or have done something that caused them to lose favor in the pack. They are last to eat, and unless they improve themselves, they have little value. We also have Prisoners....though those are rare. They are wolves that are no part of the pack, but captives that I am holding for one reason or another. I do not take prisoners often, I'd prefer to just run them out of my lands. Yet some circumstances require them to be here." He decided not to do into any more detail on that front. e currently only had one prisoner, and he had not even seen them for some moons. His hope was that they left on their own volition, so the wrath of their pack would not fall on Reynard's narrow shoulders.
He took a deep breath of relief and laughed a little at his own monologue. "Sorry for the speech, but you asked and I did not want to leave anything out." He smiled once more and his tail flickered back and forth, " Did that answer your questions though?"

Terra's tail wagged as he told her what her rank would be. She was hoping that she would still get to tell and trade stories while remaining in a pack, otherwise she wouldn't know what to do. She heard him mention hunting and she nodded. To survive in the desert you had to be able to run for long distances, and hunt both winged and hooved creatures that were much stronger then you. "I could hunt too." She agreed.
She heard him begin to speak of the ranks. Her tail tapped happily when she heard him mention the Council of Elders. In the packs she had visited, the elders did nothing for the pack, or the same as the younger ones.
She listened closely as he explained her rank. She made sure to remember Skylar's name for future referance. She felt glad that pups weren't just the parent's responsablities, and that they had someone to lean back on if they needed to. She noticed the smile seemed to fade from the red and black Keiyou's face, and when he explained the two ranks, she understood why an alpha would have a hard time with those two ranks. It was like calling a wolf with that rank worthless. "Thank you." She was grateful for his explanations, but her head spun.

He smiled once more when she said she could hunt. He needed versatile wolves, in the back of his mind he knew that he needed to beef up the hunting ranks soon, since the winter dwindled it. "I'm glad of your skills. We have prey caches near the dens that need to be replenished now and then." His tail flickered carefully as he watched her reactions to his explanations. She seemed like she would fit in nicely.
He did take note of her bewildered state as she stated her thanks, it got a warm chuckle out of the old wolf, "Don't worry, Terra, I do not expect you to learn it all just from one explanation. You will have plenty of time to piece it all together while you stay with us. For now, you are free to roam the pack territory to get your bearings. Feel free to introduce yourself to the other wolves in my command." With that he stood. He had a lot of things to get to today. He gave her a reassuring, smirk of a smile, "My pack is friendly, so feel free to ask them questions as well. I'm afraid that I must be on my way though. Please, make yourself at home." It was, after-all, her home now as well.
