Laracal breathed in the scent of many wolves apprehensively. Lord, was she scared. She took a few more hesitant steps into the Children's territory. She couldn't see anyone yet.
She'd come here, maybe a little too hopeful, half expecting arms wide open, happy to welcome her. Now she was a bit lost; if she wandered about it may look like an enemy raid. But if she stayed it could take hours for someone to wander past here. It's not like she stood out, you know.
Well, at least I'm here. She sighed, resignedly. It'd been two months since she'd been in a pack. It doesn't sound like a lot for most, but when you only live three to five years...
Her problem was that no packs seemed to match up to her needs. But this pack had held her interest. Mainly because she hoped to learn the written language. Before it was too late.
She looked at the sun for a bit. Unusually large today. It almost seemed like the sun was, well, closing in on her, childish as that sounded.
Laracal had been traveling for quite some time to get here, and was more than a little tired. Her eyes blinked drowsily but she knew she couldn't sleep...not yet. Especially not in pack territory before she was a member.
Not with her shadow, waiting in the wings. She shook her head, breathing a little heavily from travel. The shadow was waiting for her to slip up and fall asleep when it was about. For only then, could it take her place.
She shuddered at her own melancholy thoughts. Once more, she glanced around, hoping to catch a glimpse of something she'd perhaps missed earlier.
Grass wriggled its way between her claws; tickling her paws. It was green and luscious. A few bees buzzed around her mane, but otherwise, nothing new. The day had an aura of laziness to it, like she was alone and everyone else was... off sleeping maybe?
Her mind started to go numb from boredom. Please, send someone my way.

Reynard, the alpha male of the pack had just left his den to start his patrol. He walked back away from the dens, deeper into the forest, it had been a few days since he had marked that area. He found his patrols taking longer than they used to, he had to walk everywhere now. His blue eyes gleamed in the shadows of the forest, though the harrowing scar across his right eye showed the reason why the winged male could no longer reliably fly. He was mostly blind in that eye. His red-orange body moved carefully through the trees. His large black wings were folded to his side.
The tall, lanky older male moved at a decent clip. It did not take long for him to catch the scent of an intruder. He growled slightly in frustration, what were his Guardians doing these days? He chuckled and shook his head slightly. He knew what some of them were doing. New life had come with the spring. There were a few new pups running around. Deep down he knew that he was happy for his pack mates. He himself hoped to have new little ones running around soon. However for now, there was a threat to his growing pack. Or potentially a new member. Either or, he needed to investigate.
He put his gray peppered maw to the ground and began searching for the scent. He was a little confused, there was a scent of wolf, but it was deeply hidden in the scent of earth. He took a moment to puzzle over it, a kukkien perhaps? He hoped so. He had already lost flight, part of his sight, if he lost his power of scent he would not know what to do. It was getting harder and harder to deny his age.
He came to a thicket where he guessed the scent of the wolf was strongest. He cleared his throat and spoke out, "Hello? Come out so I can see you." His voice was oily and refined, at least age made him sound more distinguished. His authoritative tone echoed through the thin trees. Sure he wasn't the largest or strongest wolf out there, but he at least knew how to have presence.

"I'm not hiding." She made an odd noise, almost like a chuckle, but not quite. Shaking herself- though what for, no one knows, she arranged herself so she was directly in front of him, and what she hoped was the least threatening position possible.
She cleared her throat, looked sheepishly down at her paws, "Erm, I wasn't trying to sneak up on you. I wanted to join."
He looked so..old. It was odd to her, these long living species. Why? She often wondered why anyone should need such a long life, and shuddered at the thought.
"Oh, and I'm Laracal, by the way." She added, an afterthought. I hope he can hear me... It was no secret that her voice was rather faint.
I remember... In stories, the elders were always hard of hearing. Then again, the wolf in front of her was no fairy tale. He was very real, and had an aura of power about him. Pure power.
What a pretty fur color he had. It must be nice to be colorful. She wondered if she could be, blue maybe, for just a day. To not blend in, just once.
Silly thoughts really. Laracal watched him, and mused about what he'd tell her. Perhaps she looked too weak to him? She certainly was. A hunter? decent enough, but nothing special. No real asset.
Her temples began to throb. What if he sent her away? He didn't look so mean. But you never really knew.
Her eyes slid half-closed for a moment, basking in the warmth and sun. She contorted her lips into a crooked sort of smile. Her kind of weather; warm and sunny.
"What pretty wings," She murmured to herself. He most likely wouldn't make out what she was saying, only that she was whispering to herself like a psycho.
She watched a feather fall from one of his wings, like overly large crow wings. The feathers were also overly large. To be able to fly! What a feat for a wolf! The power it must take to lift that weight off the ground... she humphed. The lung power one would need.

He covered his surprise with a charming smile. There was something about the kukkien breed that he found endearing. Maybe it was all the plants on them, maybe it was the child-like nature. Either way he had seen few, but had been pleased with what he saw. He did not come much closer to the female though, she seemed skiddish enough as it was, he didn't need to startle her.
"I didn't think you were trying to hide, it is just easy for kukkien like yourself to blend in with the trees." His ears strained forward to hear the soft spoken creature before him. It was kind of nice to be around a quiet wolf. The few conversations he had participated in with another like this kukkien had been pleasant on the ears. Having three young kids constantly yelling and squealing in his own den made it hard on the old man's ears. Larcacal? That was an interesting name.
"Hello Laracal, I am Reynard, the alpha of this pack, The Children of Hvítur Ári. We are always looking for more members. Tell me a little bit about yourself and I can see where you would fit in."
He sat his narrow hips down and curled his thin, whip-like tail around his dark feet. He wanted to be genial enough. New wolves would be needed to help to feed and wrangle the pups that would be running around. If his first assumption of where she would fit in was wrong, she could help him see where she would best be suited. She just needed to have the confidence to tell him. His pack was family oriented, he needed kind hearted and devoted wolves.

She laughed in her soft voice, sounding like the tinkling of bells. "Maybe that's why I rarely meet others of my kind, dispite us being such a common breed." She smiled, but was sad inside. It hurt to feel alone like this. "Oh, your making me think, are you?" There was a good-natured twinkle in her eye as she spoke.
What did he want to know about her? Well...what made her special? "Erm, well I'm not much of a fighter, no strength, you see." Great, now I sound like a useless bimbo. "But I don't think it'd be wrong to say I'm intelligent." She added swiftly. Anything else?
"I'd also call myself curious. I'll let you decide for yourself if that's good or bad." She chuckled once more. Reynard was an easy wolf to be around, despite his imposing nature. He's the alpha for a reason, after all. It was obvious he cared about his pack.
"I really just want to know things." Everything. She wanted to know why the sky was blue, and why birds sang in the morning. If she could read minds...
Then again, maybe it was best if she couldn't. Did she really want to glimpse man's soul? She supposed not, but still.
Curiousity killed the cat, but she was sure the cat didn't mind. It was probably a lot happier than all the scaredy-cats anyway.
"I guess you could say I'm looking for a place to call my home." A real home, with a family and everything. Somewhere she belonged.
"I'm sorry," She said awkwardly, "I just don't know what to say. I usually don't talk this much." She couldn't, it would risk overusing her lungs. She needed those things.
She sat awkwardly for a while, listening to the bees buzzing around her flowers. She liked bees, they were nice little creatures. She'd even had some that would live with her for a few months before they died. Sometimes she even named them.
She looked apologetically at Reynard, not quite knowing what to say. She wasn't good at this kind of stuff; socializing. She liked being around other wolves, but conversations? She just wasn't good at them.
(Oh I don't mind starting out as a storyteller, but I'd like to be a crone eventually/soonish)

She was soft-spoken and modest enough to be a sitter. However when she mentioned her thirst for knowledge his mind flashed to Skyler. Another soft spoken individual already in his ranks. Skyler was very similar to this wolf before him and on a quest to be the Crone herself. Perhaps the two of them would work well together. Skyler was already hard at work mastering the written language as well as trying her paw at continuing to write the history of the pack. It couldn't hurt having another wolf on that project, even if she was a short-lived wolf.
When she mumbled out an apology he gave her a charming smile that stood out against his black maw. The peppering of gray in his face added to the charm of his smile. "Now now, no need to be sorry. I asked you to speak on behalf of yourself. Had it been a short monologue there would have been cause to worry." He fluffed his wings slightly before folding them neatly to his lean flanks.
"If it is a home you want, a home you can have. I have no qualms with letting you in my pack." He always seemed to be more willing to allow females into his pack than males. Perhaps he just had a tender heart for them. Or perhaps his old charlatan ways were still buried beneath his new fatherly appearance. He had that nagging chip on his shoulder though, that he could not hurt those he loved anymore than he had already. New blood in the pack was a good thing.
"If you seek knowledge I can direct you to a certain individual with whom you can quest for this knowledge. She has been inquisitive even when I knew her as a pup and is currently one of my best Storytellers. Her name is Skyler. I can grant you the rank Storyteller. I like to see them as my conduits of information. They hear and tell of what they learned, having more than one or two is beneficial for the entire pack." He looked at the female before him, trying to gauge how old she was.
He licked his black lips and spoke once more, "If that is something you would like to do, just let me know. Are you hungry? We are not too far from some of the food caches if you would like something to eat." He stood and shook some leaves off of his rump and lion-like tail. Sure he had planned on patrolling today, but it wasn't very often that he ran into a new member so early in the day.

"So does this mean I'm joined?" She gave him a sideways glance. "I have no problems being a storyteller; it sounds rather interesting. And as for this wolf, I'd like to meet her."
Of course, Laracal loved meeting new wolves. Even not so nice ones. She liked to watch them, study there habbits. Everyone was interesting in there own way, even if it was by being extraordinarilly ordinary. It was fun to her to try to predict a wolf's reaction to any particular information.
"Oh," She said, suddenly remembering herself. "Was there anything else you wished to know?" She stared at him, as if she could read his mind just by staring hard enough. Silly wolf, she scolded herself, looking away and hoping she hadn't made him uncomfortable. She often did, when she stared, Make others uncomfortable, I mean. But, really, she was just curious.
"No, no I'm not hungry," She assured him with a faint smile. And it wasn't really a lie, she just failed to add that she wasn't particularily full either.
She felt strange, deep down in her gut. How odd it felt to have a home, once more. God, she hadn't even called her own pack home since she was six months old. It wasn't an unpleasent feeling, though.
"Could you show me around? I mean, if I'll be living here..." She at least wanted a general idea. No use wandering around like a headless rat. And what better opportunity to figure it out than right now? She took a few steps closer, then waited for him to start off in a direction.
How exciting, to belong to something. To be part of something. She held herself with just a hair more pride, finally feeling useful. Finally, she felt just a little bit needed. Absently, she realized it was still quite early in the morning. It didn't seem so. Why, she might have guessed it was midday, at the least. Possibly mid afternoon. How strange perception of time was. And, she wondered, if there was a relevence to what time it really was, or if it was only your perception of it that mattered.

((I think we can call this thread finished and just trust that Rey showed her around and described Skyler to her. If you want to start a new thread for Skyler those two can get to know one another))
