The shortened eremus waddled along the plains. She had lost the track of a fire lupus she had been tracking to simply enjoy his company, even if he found her rather stalkish. She needed a reason to keep going on, right? She sat down and sighed as she scanned the area. She had lost him. Either that or he was purposely hiding and laughing at her for being stupid.
She whined as she got back up and continued to wander around for him, but still, no luck. Sighing, the short eremus felt her tail shorten and her ears become slightly larger. She was used to this by now though. For a wolf with constricto... it was just normal nature.
Nepara got to her feet again as she ran, to where, she was unsure. She just wanted to feel the wind against her and help her think. What did she want to do with her life now that she had no pack? No pack... that's it! She felt her tail wag with the idea.
"That's it! I'll start my own pack! I'll get Artellia... and and... maybe Leo will want to join too! Oh it will be so fun! And we will hang out and party all the time... and..." she began to babble to herself about how cool it would be for them to make one. Maybe, just maybe, she could make something out of herself yet.
She stopped by a shallow pool of water to drink and take in her thoughts. A pack huh? Hmm, a pack for performers to laze about and be whatever they want to be! Yes, that's the pack!

Reika slunk through the grass, ears flat against his skull. A playful wind tugged at his scarlet fur, and if he could have, he would have snapped at it. He was running from his latest failure, a blue-eyed hybrid of some sort, who had very actively refused the Sennyo's advances. Reika hated to be refused.
However, there was little he could do, what with the hybrid's hulking Yagi friend staring him down, and he had been forced to retreat. Coupled with the refusal, this left Reika a foul mood, and he was quite willing to snap at anything, be it wolf or wind. What's worse, without any trees for miles there weren't any shadows large enough for him to melt into, and he had to cross these thrice-blasted plains the normal, mundane way.
It was in the middle of this last thought when the Sennyo's nose detected the faint scent of a wolf on the wind. He lifted his head, scanning the terrain, hope blossoming in his heart. He spotted the wolf after a few moments, taking a drink from one of the pools of water scattered about the plains. A smile broke across Reika's muzzle as he trotted forward, already devising a plan to seduce the unwary wolf. Sure, they were a bit short, a bit large in the ears, but desperate as he was, he wasn't going to be picky.
As he neared the other wolf, he paused, taking a moment to look closer.
Damn... Reika cursed mentally. The wolf was female! What could he do with a girl?! He knew the way that it worked in theory, but the idea of it repulsed him. Sighing, Reika approached the pool, choosing to stand on the opposite side.
"Lovely weather today, hm?" he grumbled as he lowered his head to get a drink, silently cursing fate, the Great Spirits, and whatever mishap in biology that had caused the wolf before him to be female.

Her ears lashed about and elongated as did her tail until she paused to sit back down and her tail became a stub and her ears returned to a proportionate size. She smiled and tilted her head to the side to get a better look at the sennyo.
"I suppose so. Your wings are pretty. I wish I had wings... then maybe I could fly!" The perky eremus pointed out, even if she had sennyo wings she would be able to elongate them with her power and use them to glide and possibly fly. She felt more comfortable now that she wasn't alone anymore.
"I don't suppose you haven't seen a darker colored fire lupus roaming about here have ya?" she asked innocently. Hoping the other wolf would have an answer. She looked around as if to make sure no one else was around. The other wolf seemed somewhat distant, Nepara hoped he was okay.
"Say, what brings you all the way out here by yourself anyways?" Nepara questioned the sennyo again. Maybe today she could make another friend who could help her with her idea to make a pack or maybe at least help her find Leo.

Reika fluttered his wings, pleased at the compliment, although he still loathed the wolf across from him. Lifting his head from the pool, he took a moment to lick the pads of his paws and await the wolf to halt her questioning. When she seemed finished, he raised his eyes to study her again. To his surprise, her ears had seemed to shrink down to a more reasonable size, and her tail had all but disappeared. Shaking himself, he convinced himself that it had been a mere trick of the light.
"Your compliment is most appreciated," Reika said, "However, I'm rather sorry to inform you that these wings, at least, don't fly. They are merely for decoration." He smiled to himself, imagining the list of those who had followed him merely out of a fascination with his wings, "Or attracting a mate, I suppose," he added, more to himself than to her.
"As for your lupus friend, no, I haven't seen anybody of the sort, I apologize. Although if I should stumble across them, I'll be sure to point them in your direction." In all honesty, he had no intention of doing anything of the sort, but he couldn't say that. There were, in fact, quite a lot of things that common courtesy prohibited him from saying and doing, first and foremost being to turn and leave without answering all of the other wolf's questions.
"And what am I doing out here all alone..?" Reika pretended to ponder this, "That question has multiple answers. Running from the past is at the top of my list. Travelling to see new things, meet new people, the like. Currently, I'm escaping from the scene of a rather tragic failure of mine." He lowered his head and put a paw over his eyes, "Ah, woe is me!" he lamented, "Am I forever destined to be alone? To think that anybody, anybody, should treat me so coldly... why, it makes me despair for the future! These old bones still remember a day when the world was kind. Where did that world go?" He cleared his throat and lifted his head, "Ah... but who wants to listen to the moaning of an old Sennyo, eh? Well, old in comparison to most anyways... but I digress. If I might return the question, what brings you to these parts?"

"Well, naturally, sennyo can't fly. It's a shame really. I think you would all make beautiful flyers..." She noted that he did not have a mate. Though she did not either, Nepara was far from desperate. In fact, she was probably really picky. She imagined the perfect companion to be tall and lanky with colorful fur that was unnatural to her own kind yet still pure of blood as her. Not that she frowned on hybrids... she just wanted a natural family that would not need risk mutation through hybridization. With her species so few and far in between, she wanted healthy pups. If she ever had them, that is. She felt it was her duty to her species to do so at this point.
"What would you say is your perfect mate then?" she mused, realizing she had thought of her own only moments earlier, she had become curious of the other wolf's opinion.
Nepara sighed as she realized the other wolf had not seen her lupus 'friend'. Eh, they were more acquaintances anyways. It was then the sennyo rambled on about why they came and to her, she found him rather silly to be running from the past. You couldn't run from things that didn't exist today. When he paused to ask her a question, she had to think about it a moment before answering, her tail elongating again to an average wolf's size as it began to wag.
"To be honest, I'm just kinda wandering around, I was hanging with my lupus friend but he seems to have ditched me... maybe I will head back to the swamp lands. I'm looking to maybe make my own pack! It would be loads of fun!" Nepara chanted as she stood and panted.

"My perfect mate, hm..?" Reika considered all the different types of wolves he'd encountered in his life. He had never really stopped to get to know any of them, and therefore most of his ideas of the "perfect mate" were superficial. Eyes half closed, a dreamy smile tugging at his muzzle, Reika created his image of perfection, "He'd be... well, somebody of Sennyo blood, most likely. I wouldn't want him to go and die on me after only a few years together. And... handsome. Not flashy. Something... subdued. Black would be nice. Yes, black, to counteract all my bright colors. Or grey, I suppose. Grey would be fine. And he'd... I don't know, be... somebody who..." Here, he faltered. Somebody who what? Somebody who loved him? That was too cliche. Somebody who accepted him? There was no way around that one. Two males did not enter any sort of relationship without accepting one another. "Somebody who'd make me want to stay in one place." Reika decided, "I move around a lot. Somebody once told me that I'm allergic to commitment. Perhaps that's true..." He shook himself vigorously, brushing away the dark thoughts that crowded around his mind.
"Well, never mind all that..." Reika paused to smooth out a tuft of fur on his shoulder, "If your friend left you behind, as you say, then that doesn't make him a very good friend, now does it?" he flicked his antennae, the closest he could get to wagging a finger and tsk, tsking, "A true friend would stay nearby and keep you company. I bet he'd feel awful if you were to be swept off by a dragon after he left you alone, now wouldn't he? Or, he would if he knew about it, which he wouldn't, because he left you here. That doesn't sound like a good friend at all." He glanced at the sky, ears perked, Although... there doesn't appear to be a dragon anywhere around here, so perhaps my example wasn't the most relevant, but... well... you understand my point, right?" He looked skyward again, just to be sure, but, to his relief, he still saw nothing out of the ordinary.
"Anyways... you said you were going to start a pack? I myself have never witnessed the beginning of a pack, but, as you may have gathered, I've also never really tried to settle down. The idea of seeing the same faces day after day, with strict routine and dull monotony..." He placed a paw on his chest and sighed dramatically, "Why, that would be a living hell for one such as me! I'm not much of a worker, and the idea of staying in one place for too long makes me shudder." He shook himself again, "But I suppose everybody has their own dreams and goals in life. If it's a pack that you want, then I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][tr][atrb=background,http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q21/winkatuck/2woo-1.png] Nepara cocked her head to one side as she listened to the sennyo before her. Did he just say he wanted another male for a mate? The eremus wasn't one to judge but she had actually yet to meet another wolf that preferred the same sex partner. Guess it could work for some. She never thought about it, but if she ever met another eremus... she probably wouldn't mind if they were a female... it was just that they couldn't keep their species around if one of them wasn't male. But sennyo were here and there, so she was sure this wolf could find someone special and not worry about it.
She nodded as he mentioned how Leo wasn't the best friend. She already knew this and was striving to make him better. She can feel it, somewhere inside him, he is good and loves having her as his friend. Maybe she can beat into him someday. She yawned and stretched, the afternoon always made her tired. She shook herself again from a chilling wind that blew by. Could Leo really just leave a wolf to die if it came down to it? Nepara didn't think so.
The eremus nodded and panted as the subject of her pack idea came up "Yeah! It would be soooo cool! We wouldn't have ranks based on brute strength or species though... everyone would be equal and the higher ranks would just have more wolves looking up to them. And anyone could join! Just if you stay with the pack instead of another, you get a higher rank to show your loyalty to it! I've got it all figured out!" she nodded, mostly to herself.
Maybe she could convince this wolf to give it a shot. After all she already had a couple of other wolves that liked her and were more than willing to lend a hand if she needed it. Who knows how many wolves would love to join a pack that valued your own individual talents over just whatever category you fit into?

Reika was about to respond to the other wolf's description of her dream pack, but he stopped. There was something... different, about his conversation partner. Something he couldn't quite place his paw on...
His eyes fell on her tail as she stretched. It wasn't all that extraordinary. Just a tail, really. Not much longer or shorter than any other-
That was it! Reika's memory was almost perfect, and he quite clearly remembered her tail being little more than a stub but moments before. He twitched his ears back, antennae rigid. He had seen a lot of strange things in his time, but this, by far, was the strangest. He coughed into his paw, forcing his antennae to resume their gentle curl. He hoped that his surprise wasn't too evident.
"A pack based on loyalty and equality, eh?" he said, choosing to avoid the subject of the wolf's transformation, "Sounds like an interesting idea. Do you suppose you could pull it off, though? After all, it is in the nature of a wolf, especially those in a pack setting, to seek higher ranks and use the power gained from that title to manipulate others." at this, he smiled, recalling his own shameless manipulations,"This occurs almost without variation, it seems. How can you trust the integrity of those who you place in higher ranks? If you don't pay close attention, you may end up being ousted from your seat, possibly killed, and your pack may become yet another militaristic hierarchy, with the strong and smart on top, and the weak and idiotic on the bottom, minions to the whims of those whose titles make them higher. My dear, the only truly equal pack is that without rank or name. Little more than a loose band of loners with a vague idea of a name and some feeling that they may not be a true pack."
He studied the nails of one of his forepaws as he spoke, a cynical note in his voice. It wasn't that he didn't want to believe in the idea that the wolf spoke of, it was that, as far as he was concerned, such a thing could never work in reality. His ideas were mostly based around his past experience with wolves and packs, none of which had been particularly pleasant.
"Not to crush your dreams or anything." he flashed a smile at the other wolf, then returned to his studies, taking a moment to lick away a piece of dirt, "I've just never seen such a pack put into place, and, as you can guess, I've been around for quite some time."
