Although she and Scarp had agreed to travel she had never known just how long they would stay together, or if they would just meet up at a certain point. Chry was once again alone, and living the loner life, her pelt, though she tried to keep clean was smudged here and there with dirt, and her ribs were showing through her pelt, not drastically so but enough to show she hadn’t eaten well in a while. She was surprised with just how well she blended into her surroundings, and the warmth of the Plains around her comforted her somehow. She liked the way the grasses touched her as she went by, and the way the flowers around her seemed to bloom on and on. She had left the Tundra, and ended up in the Mountains, she had skirted the Taiga, having scented not only the Taiga wolf pack but even scents of her old pack members the Empire. [/scrolly]It would seem that she had gotten out just in time, whispers upon the wind had told her that whatever was left of the Empire had been ravaged by one of the worst storms the Tundra had ever seen. What remained were wolves that had scattered to the wind, ones that had taken up residency in other packs, lost their minds, wandered off to their deaths, or like her were trying to make it on their own. Chrysanthra was not too far from losing her mind though, she was a wolf with a loyalty complex. She needed to be a part of something, needed to feel as though she belonged and through each experience she had, she was tormented by the idea that she would forever be alone. She was either isolated for being a lightning lupus with a dangerous, uncontrollable power, or she was a part of something that just fell apart. She had spent the rest of winter in the Plains, avoiding other wolves and contact because she just couldn’t stand the idea of being rejected once more. But the more she stayed alone, the more she seemed to teeter on the edge of sanity. So it was this fine morning when she woke up from a used but long abandoned den with a growling of her stomach. “So it is, that I must eat, or I must perish…” Pushing herself up, taunt muscles stretched out over her body, the unfortunate part of being alone was that she could hardly take down large prey, not without drawing attention to herself. Her lightning truly was a gift and a curse in that respect, oh she could take down a deer or another larger animal but it would draw the attention of larger predators and she could only bring down so much, if she exhausted herself to kill prey there was no way to defend it, and she was not going to feed the dragon population. So with a sigh she headed off through the grass to try to find a sufficient meal, but it was then that her amber eyes caught a hold of something ahead of her, and she could not believe her own eyes, it was Scarp! It was her Scarp, the female she found herself utterly attracted to, she had found her and came to her! “Scarp! Scarp I’m here! You found me!” The golden female lost all sense of her dignity and pride when she saw her, and went flying toward the body of the other female, but just as she stopped up short and went to sniff the air to find her scent she stopped cold. The image in front of her faded, and there was no scent to speak of. She, being a more logical and reasonable wolf backed up immediately and growled, looking around the grasses, trying to find another wolf around her who would play such a horrible trick on her, “Come out! Come out coward so that I can fry you!” She snarled viciously as she prowled around before sitting down and hanging her head in sadness. How could she have just been there, so close that she could have run to her? She sniffed slightly, feeling as though she could just lay down and cry..that was before her inner self kicked in and snapped at her, ‘Quit this! Pull yourself up this instant and find yourself food! You must survive, with or without Scarp, she was a Sennyo anyway, she couldn’t defend you, if anything you would be trying to keep her alive when you can barely do it for yourself!’ She shook her head affirmatively as though she were actually talking to someone, someone wiser than herself who would help her. She began walking again before she saw something move in front of her, delight would have it, it would be a rabbit…but before she could lower herself to try to give chase another passed in front of her, and another and another until there were several and they were surrounding her. Her sanity, cracked enough to where she could be deemed questionable came unhinged, and she began snapping at the air in front of her, believing in the hallucinations she herself was creating, one out of loneliness and others out of hunger. A small place in the back of her mind knew that these things weren’t real, and perhaps even knew they were coming from her, but the larger part of her just couldn’t handle it. Her jaws and teeth clacked as she tried to take the heads off the rabbits in front of her…”STAND STILL AND LET ME EAT YOU!!!” She barked and yelped as she set off to chase the hallucinations through the Plains, not fully understanding why every time she got close, they seemed to disappear, although she just couldn’t stop, and it would be her dumb luck that one that she had happened upon was real, and her swift jaws broke the animals neck. But this simply further perturbed her because if she had killed one, and could eat it, why not the others? The other unfortunate downside to being alone was when something happened that desperately needed explaining, there was no one to comfort you when you felt as though your reality was breaking down and shattering into a thousand pieces. |
