Absence makes the heart grow fonder. That was how that phrase went, right? Brightness wondered how true it was as he moved through the now familiar forest. What might be true for one, wasn't always true for another. People changed, he certainly had. What once was an onery and cowardly pup was now a large, kind and strong wolf. So maybe he was still a coward, he couldn't be perfect.
But he wanted to be perfect, just a little bit, and only for one wolf. Once stunning, little spitfire of a wolf. A spitfire he had avoided for too long, in fear of her rejection. In fear that she wouldn't return his feelings. But what was the point of hiding his feeling if he never got to see her anyway. So time to man up. Time to tell the truth, the whole truth, for once in his life.
Kaly's den looked a lot different in the summer than it had in the winter. The bushes were larger and everything was thick with summer growth, making it hard to be sure he was at the right place. Though following her scent made the task a little easier. Bri would never forget Kaly's scent.
The large hybrid shuffled around, his wings really too large to be spread in the dense forest. But he wasn't small enough to squeeze under the bushes like Kaly. He bunched his mucsels and spread his wings as far as he could without hitting a tree, then lept into the small clearing that housed Kaly's den.
She had been there recently, but he wasn't quite sure if she was still around. In all likely hood she was out hunting or training if he knew her. It was the middle of the day. Either way it didn't matter. He would just wait around till she got back. Belatedly he realized he should have brought some sort of peace offering. There was a high probablility of him coming out of this bleeding.
"Kaly?" He called out, unable to keep the nervousness out of his voice," I have something to tell you."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,502,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i369/mo_avalon/WonderWhy/kalybg.png] Kaly had enjoyed her time in the Prairie even with having to put up with that white fluffy cloud named Draugur. He had been fun for her, in many ways but he had also put doubt in her head, not because he was oh so powerful or smart but because she still didn't know where she stood when it came to the Children. She still didn't feel like fit in anywhere, she knew she was never going to be a Guardian, she just didn't care about the pack that much, her power was not reliable enough to count on for anything good, and Reynard didn't seem to give a good crap about anyone that wasn't his mate or pups. The entire trip home her shoulders slumped and her head was down, she was an outcast, just like Bri....at her mind's mention of the larger hybrid in question she sniffed a little, okay more than a little, nursing her hurt feelings more than she'd like to admit. She could tell herself that she was over him, that he had abandoned her, and all that rot but she knew it was a lie. When she had seen that flying wolf in the sky, she had hoped with more than all her heart that it was the golden male who she had come to love. Bri, who put up with all her screeching and scratching, he who carried her down to the beach, and he...who had attempted to snuggle up to her to keep her warm and from having nightmares. He, the one who she chased away...and regretted it.
She slumped, and grouched her way back into the valley still wondering what she was going to do. There was no one in the valley who was honestly her friend beyond Coneiron, and even he had been busy guarding and providing for his family, she had spent more time away from her den, unable to be there or in the slipping meadows for very long, haunted by her memories. Traveling to the beach was out of the question, one she hated water more than anything and two...Bri had taken her there on their first and only journey together. During the night time that she slept, she tried to find cover, knowing she would be helpless and she would have slept in more trees, except she had spent most of her trips falling out of them as she twisted and turned during the night. It had been on the third fall that she had decided to try to find more..accommodating temporary den sites. It would be on her last night of traveling that she had a dream rather than a nightmare. It felt as though she were traveling out of her body, floating over the land and into the valley, and there she floated over the top of her den. She half expected some new member to be using it, or clearing away her furs, her re-scent marking her place, but she had known it was well hidden.
But that is when she saw him, Bri! Bri was there at her den! She shouted, and hissed and screeched at him, how dare him for showing his face, and daring to intrude on her space! She shouted until she felt sick, but he never reacted, just sat there as if he were waiting for someone...waiting for her...It was at that point she realized it was more a sending then it was a dream. Her power had kicked in and shown her what would happen, but she had no idea when it was to happen, that was the problem with her power. It could be tomorrow, a week, a moon, or even longer, how long was she supposed to hang around to see him, to have him there and berate him for breaking her heart and rejecting her?! She awoke with a start and stumbled to her feet with a soft whimper, she didn't know whether to treat the sending like real, and hope/despair at the fact that he would be there soon, or act as though nothing had happened and she saw nothing of any importance. As she stumbled to a nearby stream to drink she closed her eyes, her head pounding as though she had fallen from another tree, but more so she fell into herself from the sending.
Sluggishly she returned to the land of the Children, now being close to her own den she decided to use the early, warming morning to go take a bath at her usual place, scrubbing herself against the large rocks the bank had to offer, to remove any grime she had attracted, and to remove any scents, ahem Draugur, and then finally she lay down to sun herself warm and dry. She napped but realized with contentment that with summer she had less time to lay around to become dry, and with a slight attitude she jumped down from the rock and headed towards her den, with only one distraction, the rumbling in her stomach. Since she had been traveling she had eaten lightly, but mainly gorged herself on flying fish, and now they were making their way into the valley, and she decided one or two more couldn't hurt her. Climbing into a nearby tree's lower branched she waited patiently until she saw a group of them coming, her ears pinned against her head and licking her chops she dropped from the tree, swinging her paws viciously, claws out. Three fish dropped to the ground, slash marks not only shocking them but tearing through vital parts. With a delighted look she picked them up by their back fins and proceeded to carry them to her den.
One would think she had forgotten her sending until she reached the bushes of her den and smelled him, his scent fresh, as though he were just on the other side. 'Brightness...' Her heart started to pound in her chest and she swore it would just tear through the thin flesh, her mind began racing of what she would say to him, her claws digging into the earth and she almost snapped the three fish tails she had in her mouth...'I need to tell you something..' Oh yes tell me to leave you alone? That you don't feel the same?' She couldn't help what happened next, she slammed through the bushes making them shake with her wraith, she glared at Bri, even though her eyes memorized every detail, how much more muscular, how much bigger, more confident, his colors were brighter and shinier, and even his eyes had grown more handsome...but none of this mattered her her navy blue eyes glared at him, she spit the fish to the side and glared, her now two tails swishing back and forth independently with her temper..”How DARE you come here! After everything you've put me through! You've ignored me for months! Avoided me!...I....I...” Letting loose her call of rage she ran forward at top speed and raked her claws down his back flanks, and sunk her smaller fangs into him, blinded by rage, tears fell down her cheeks, blinding her...Try as she might to be angry, the tears were not only for her anger, but her sadness and even a small amount of joy that at least she gotten to see him once more before she drove him away..

The reaction Brightness go was no less than he was expecting. The claws and teeth digging into his flesh stung but he'd had worse hurts in the past. What surprised him was the way his fur was dampening. Kaly was crying. His heart wrenched as he realized that. He was the cause of her pain.
Every thing she accused him of was true. He had avoided her... abandoned her. Guilt swelled up and threatened to swallow him whole. It was hard. This whole caring about other thing. He went from only having to look out for himself to having more than just him. He wasn't alone anymore. Brightness had others who cared about him, that he cared about in return. It scared him and he was ashamed of himself.
"I know. I'm sorry. I know," he said thickly. He lowered himself to Kaly's level, side still stinging smartly. "I was a coward, back a the cove. And even more of a coward when I returned to the children. I-I just didn't want you to hate me," he choked on his words.
Brightness needed to tell her. He knew he needed to tell her how he felt. How much he cared for her. How much he loved her, but it was so hard. He didn't even love his mother. Love wasn't a thing he knew how to react properly to.
"I... I realized something. Down at the cove. Something that scared me half to death. I care more about you than I have anyone ever in my life. I know I'm a huge dumbass. Clumsy and practically useless. But I-" his voice broke. He couldn't say it. Brightness throat had clogged up from the un-shed tears. He ears dipped back, throughly rejected. Nothing could make this easier. The pain he had cause Kaly, the pain he had caused himself.
"I'm sorry"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,502,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i369/mo_avalon/WonderWhy/kalybg.png] She was striking out at him blindly, her claws sweeping in zig-zagging motions, as she tried not to scream. She had seen his coming back she had not known the amount of rage and anger she had built up against him to try to keep going after he had left her. She couldn't help the gut-wrenching screeching cry that left her muzzle as she slammed her fangs home against him before she collapsed against his fur, exhausted and spent of her energy. She wanted him to bleed, to hurt like he had hurt her, when she had returned to the Children she had not wanted to live, talk to anyone, hunt, eat, nothing. Her visions plagued her and those she did talk to had all said it would work out but was it working out? Here she had the male she loved and she was attacking him. In a moment of stubborn silence she inhaled the scent of him, mingled with her own tears making her cry even more, her bony shoulders and back shuddered with her sobs as she hung on refusing to stop biting him. It was the only way she could keep silent, and she realized something in that moment, she didn't want to let go, lest he spread his wings and fly away from her again, in her own crazy sad mind, she didn't want him to leave and she had sunk her teeth into him to stop him, in addition to hurting him.
Kaly had abandonment issues, ever since her parents, who were the only two beings she had ever loved and cared about died she had had no one. Sure, she had joined the pack for her own survival, but no one stepped up to adopt her or take care of her, in fact everyone she came into contact with it seemed was volatile. No one ever gave Kaly a chance to be anything other than a shrieking, insulting spitfire. Here was Bri, who didn't necessarily ever have a chance to get away from her hell she had jumped on his back the first time they met, but he handled it better. He treated her differently, and he was an outcast just as much as she was. She knew he was talking and she shook her head, smashing her newest tears into his side, mixing with his blood, “No you don't know! You don't know what I went through the entire time you were gone, how hurt I was, how upset I was, how worried I was. I kept thinking only running into the Mafia would have kept you from coming back, and then low and behold you come back but you want nothing to do with me...It broke my heart...” For once her voice lowered from shrieking into a choked sob as she sat there, speaking through the flesh still locked between her teeth.
When he placed himself at a low level near her, she turned her head, ears pushed back and to the side, and reached out with her claws and slashed into the front of his chest, leaving four thin, but still painful marks across his chest as she looked into his eyes. There was not enough scratching she could do to inflict the amount of pain she had gone through onto his flesh and by looking into his eyes, she knew that. “You didn't want me to hate you?! So you ran away from me, avoided me? Talked to everyone but me?!” She finally backed up from him about a foot, the tear trails obvious on her face until she took a paw and stubborn wiped at her face, making her whole nice clean face now mussed and partially covered in the speckles of blood. She didn't know how to respond to him, normally she'd just rant and rave and screech about how she felt or what he should do, but she loved Bri, and she knew it, but she just didn't know how to tell him, and after this whole episode she wasn't sure she could tell him. She glared stubbornly over toward her den, big enough to house them both, she knew now and then down at her fish she had thrown to the side.
She listened as he spouted off about the Cove and how he had discovered he cared about her...her ears perked up slightly as she heard that..he what? ..She clenched her teeth together and forced herself to look into his face, her wide midnight blue eyes looking nearly black. “You are clumsy, and selfish, and mean, and stupid!”.....She glared into his eyes, “And I don't know why I love you!” Her eyes opened wide and her own mouth hung open as if she couldn't believe what she had just said...or that she had said it right after digging her claws and teeth into him. She could only fathom that after keeping it inside for over half the year, being without him for half the year and being alone and going crazy she had no choice but to say what was on her heart and mind. She thought for a second her heart would fly out of her chest in relief but she quickly tried to turn her back to him, sitting there not facing him as she looked down at the ground panicking. What would he think, he had said he cared about her and she flew off the handle telling him she loved him! What the hell was wrong with her?
“Actions mean more than words Bri..”

Brightness' side was shredded, shallow cuts drenching his golden fur a rusty brown but the pain barely registered in the large hybrids brain. Kaly's rant had stung. The pain he had caused her, was causing her, hurt more than anything else ever had. He let her vent, knowing whatever he said would probably just make things worse. He had screwed up, like he always did. Screwing up seemed to be one of his greatest talents.
He didn't flinch away as she swiped at his chest leaving four scathing marks there. He just held her gaze as she cried and screamed at him. He was cursed to cause pain to those around him. Being born from the mafia was a curse, one that would follow him until he died. First Moonrose, then Kaly. It was only a matter of time until his presence harmed someone else.
“And I don't know why I love you!”
Bri's heart stuttered and skipped a beat. Kaly's eyes went wide and her jaw fell open, probably mirroring the same look on his face. There was a long drawn out moment where Brightness just stared at the small wolf.
She loved him. But that was impossible! How could she? He was, he was.. well he was Brightness Darkly! Pup of the Mafia. Runaway, coward, weak, a freak, a hybrid. But hoped spread, mingling with the confusion held in his heart.
"I--Y-You love me?" his voice cracked. Maybe she didn't mean the same love that he felt. Maybe it was more like the feelings he had toward Moonrose. That though cut him more than Kaly's claws had.
"Like, love love me?" he pressed, heart beat rapid and erratic. He felt like he was soaring and plummeting at the same time.
"Because I love you too. I've loved you for months, sense the cove. Well sense before the cove because I realize what I was feeling at the cove was love. I mean I have never felt that way and it's so much different than how I feel about Crow or Moonrose. And then I got scared because who would want me to love them. My own mother didn't even want me and neither does the pack, not really. And I thought it would just cause you trouble and I was scared you wouldn't speak to me anymore if you found out but then I ended up avoiding you and we weren't speaking anyway so.. so.." Brightness ran out of words. The fears and feeling he had been holding back for so long tumbled from his tongue leaving him slightly breathless. He breathed in shakily.
"I was wrong for hurting you and I don't deserve you."
